The queen looked upset. “Why should I listen to him?”

“You know why better than anyone,” Lily said indifferently, “Also, you know if I’m telling the truth. If not, you wouldn’t have come to talk to me alone.”

‘She even wanted her people to leave us alone. That tells me she doesn’t want others listening in on our conversation. She has many attendants, and any of them could be working for Fred.’

The queen rested her hands on the wheelchair’s push rings and pensively tapped her finger.

Meanwhile, Lily sat down and turned her attention to her twins. She thought caring for two babies simultaneously was somewhat challenging. In comparison, raising Galen was easy because she had a nanny’s help.

However, soothing two crying babies alone was physically demanding for her. Fortunately, the twins eventually quieted down, but instead of falling asleep, they curiously stared at their mother.

After a while, the queen slowly opened her eyes and looked at Lily sternly. “All right, let’s cut to the chase. I’m here to ask you a few questions.”

Lily gave no reply and waited for her to continue.

“What are the risks of R10, and how likely are they to occur? What would happen if the experiment failed? If it succeeds, will there be side effects? Is there a way to ensure nothing will go wrong?”

Those questions did not surprise Lily as she had expected them. She smiled and took her time to answer, “I can give you the answers, but do you trust me enough? How would you know whether or not I’m lying?

“After all, Fred told you not to trust me since I would say anything to save myself.”

The queen waved dismissively. “I’ll know if you’re lying. Just answer me.”

Lily looked at her deeply and said, “I’m sure you know the answer to these questions. Firstly, any experiment is risky. As you know, many people have died because of it, so there are surely risks, if you must know. As for how risky…”

After a pause, she shook her head, saying, “I don’t know because we’ve never used it on a living person before.”

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2112-“People died?” Confused, The queen blinked. “Wait, what are you talking about? Who died? You said we never experimented it on a living person before, didn’t you?”

“Come on. You know what I’m talking about. Honestly, I don’t know why your people created and spread so many variations of the viruses through your experiments. What good would that do—”

The queen was puzzled and interrupted Lily, “I have no idea what you’re talking about. My project is about exploring the possibilities of prolonging human life. What does it have to do with viruses and spreading them?”

Considering the queen’s confused expression, Lily knew Fred must have kept the queen in the dark.

Lily shook her head. “I don’t know why you or your men would want to research viruses. I’m sure you know about the pandemic in Burnwken, and I heard there were even deaths in Yudonia.

“You claim to love your people and doing all this for them, but your experiments have destroyed their lives.”

The queen widened her eyes in disbelief. “What are you talking about?!”

“You might want to ask Fred what he’s been doing,” Lily said casually.

The queen finally realized her most trusted right-hand man might have done those terrible things without her knowledge. She gripped her wheelchair’s push rings and turned around.

However, she remembered something and gave Lily a warning look over her shoulder. “You better be telling me the truth. If not—”

“You’re going to kill me?” Lily smiled indifferently. “It’s up to you whether or not to believe me. I know you’ll still carry on with R10 anyway. I only told you those things so you know what kind of man works for you.”

“That’s enough!” The queen could not take it anymore. She said firmly, “I’ve known Fred for the longest time and know what he’s like. Besides, even if he did something behind my back, I’m sure he did it for my sake!”

Lily raised her brow and was surprised that the queen trusted Fred so much. However, she thought otherwise immediately after.

‘Maybe it’s not surprising. After all, she wouldn’t have taken Fred everywhere she went if not for her trust in him. She also wouldn’t have trusted him with the project, right?’

Afterward, Lily said, “Since you trust him so much, you should listen to what he says. Then why did you even come here to discuss R10 with me?”

The queen was dumbfounded.

“There are substantial risks with R10, but I’m sure you know how absurd the experiment is. If anyone could do it, I doubt you’d be the first to be successful. Am I right, Your Majesty, or do you think you’re the chosen one?”

Lily’s words seemed to affect the queen.

“Your Majesty, what are you doing here? Don’t you trust me?” Fred hurried over and bent a knee before her, but he looked angry.

“No, it’s not that I don’t trust you.” The queen looked panicked, like a child caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

“Your Majesty, I’ve always been loyal to you. You know how hard I’ve worked to ensure you would live on forever. Yet here you are, questioning my loyalty?” He looked as if the queen had betrayed him.

Ashamed, the queen touched his face. “Oh, of course not. I know you’re loyal, and I’ve never doubted you. I just wanted to ask her a few questions.”

“Then why did you wait until I wasn’t around? Why did you purposely do it behind my back? Was it because there were things you didn’t want me to hear?” Despite half-kneeling, his manner was so forceful that the queen felt overwhelmed.

Lily looked at the two and guessed what it was all about. Suddenly, she burst into laughter, disrupting the tense situation.

The two turned to her, and Fred grew angrier. “What are you laughing at?!”

“I just find your customs interesting. Is that how a subject expresses their loyalty in Yudonia? By interrogating the queen?” Lily ensured her mocking tone was apparent.

Fred was outraged, retorting, “What are you talking about?! I only spoke louder than usual just now. I wasn’t interrogating her. Y-You’re just trying to divide us.”

“I think everyone knows if that’s a lie and that you’ve misbehaved,” Lily said daringly. The more she spoke, the angrier Fred became.

“Your Majesty, I’ve been loyal to you for 20 years. You can’t doubt me just because an outsider makes a random accusation,” Fred spoke anxiously, eager to express his loyalty.

The queen nodded. “Yes, I know. I’ve never doubted your loyalty. Still, you must also believe that I only wanted to ask her a few questions on a whim. That doesn’t mean I doubt you. I know you’re loyal, Fred, but you shouldn’t distrust me either.”

The queen shook her head, looking somewhat disappointed.

“No, I would never doubt you, Your Majesty. I was wrong to make such assumptions. Nonetheless, we can’t trust this cunning woman—everything she says and does is meant to help her escape.

“She’s not devoted to you, Your Majesty. As I said, Hylanders are not to be trusted. I’m the only one who’s loyal to you.” Fred put one hand on his chest and bowed to show his allegiance.

The queen nodded. “I understand, but I hope you can keep the whole thing under wraps. The incident at the research institute had already alarmed the local government, and they’re investigating it.

“If this gets out, there will be significant implications and media coverage on an international level…”

She did not finish her sentence because she knew Fred would understand.

“Ah, yes. You need your rest, Your Majesty. You shouldn’t have come here in the first place,” Immediately after, he turned to the guards and shouted, “Take the queen back to rest!”

Once again, Lily was alone with Fred. The latter gazed after the queen and slowly turned to look at Lily spitefully, cursing, “You fucking bitch!”

He tried slapping Lily. However, he forgot Lily was good at combat. She seized his wrist and twisted his arm behind him, causing him to scream in pain. Alarmed, the guards outside stormed in and pointed their guns at her.

Lily remained unfazed as she glanced around and chuckled coldly, “Do you believe I can break your arm before they shoot me?”

“Don’t you dare, Lily!” Fred grimaced due to pain. He knew his arm would break if Lily applied a little more pressure.

Although the guards had guns, they dared not shoot her without Fred’s command.

Lily knew she had them under control as long as she held Fred hostage. She shook her head at him, saying, “You’ve gotten careless. Did you think I wouldn’t fight back?”

“Do you think you can accomplish anything by holding me hostage? Don’t forget about your two babies!” Fred chuckled but grimaced in pain again the next second.

“Thanks for reminding me.” Lily sneered and commanded, her gaze icy, “Tell your men to bring my children to me now.”

The guards looked at each other hesitantly while Fred clenched his teeth and told them not to obey her.

Lily’s patience wore thin, and then she twisted his arm until a crack echoed throughout the room.

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2115-Fred screamed in pain, and the guards immediately closed in on Lily. Still, none dared to shoot her. After a momentary silence, someone shouted, “Let the duke go!”

Lily glared disdainfully at the guards, saying, “Bring my babies to me if you want your duke to live!”

“Nobody moves!” Fred thundered, despite the pain, “I’d rather die serving Her Majesty.”

After taking a breath, he said through gritted teeth, “Don’t let this woman go and kill her children if necessary!”

“Don’t you dare!” Alarmed, Lily applied more pressure and twisted Fred’s arm further.

Fred groaned and refused to yield as sweat flowed down his face. “I’m nothing compared to Her Majesty’s grand plans for the nation! Lily, you won’t be able to leave here alive even if you kill me!”

He glanced sideways at Lily as he spoke.

Lily did not know what to do next. She knew she would be gambling as Fred was since they were at a standstill. Nonetheless, there was no way she could kill him because she had to think about her children.

Simultaneously, she knew they would not kill her. After all, they needed her body and would not even injure it.

Both parties were in a standoff, causing the tension to grow.

“Your Grace!” Someone barged into the room, out of breath. He was stunned to see the tense situation and did not know what to do.

“What is it?” Fred asked, surprisingly calm. He kept his composure despite his twisted arm, showing how much pain he could take.

“Some of the officers from… the Hyderland government are here, saying… they want to disinfect our embassy,” the person stammered as he pointed outward, baffled and alarmed by the situation in the room.

“Disinfection?” Fred frowned. “Tell them to leave and that the embassy is very hygienic. They don’t need to disinfect it.”

“B-But…” It was evident the junior officer could not simply brush off the visitors.

However, Fred glared at him and sighed before looking at Lily. “I suggest you let me go before they do anything to your children. You must know I’m not the only duke in Yudonia, and these men might not care about my life.”

Lily did not let go but started to consider the situation.

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2116-Lily knew Fred was right and that they would remain in the standoff if she did not let him go. Moreover, Fred refused to yield, and his men might shoot Lily or her babies if things dragged on.

Still, she did not let him go so quickly. “Since I broke your arm, what if you hurt my children after I release you?”

“Believe me, I wanted to,” Fred said, nodding. He kept gasping in pain as his eyes were full of hatred. “However, I know it won’t do me any good. You won’t mind getting hurt to get back at me if I lay a finger on your children.”

After a pause, he continued through clenched teeth, “Don’t worry. I promise to never take it out on your children. I’ll settle our score in the future, but not now, alright?”

However, Lily could not simply take his word for it, so she pulled him up and gripped his cheeks, forcing his mouth open.

“What are you—” Before he could finish, he felt Lily stuffing something into his mouth, and it slid down his throat. After confirming that he had swallowed the thing, Lily shoved him off her.

Immediately after, the guards lunged forward to pin her down.

Lily did not resist and stared at Fred as he desperately tried to force himself to throw up by shoving his fingers inside his throat. He shouted, “What did you make me swallow?!”

“Poison,” Lily shrugged and added, “One that dissolves upon contact with water. Your stomach acid has probably dissolved it already. Even if you throw up now, it won’t make a difference. Of course, you can try if you want.”

Her indifference infuriated Fred as he snatched a pistol from a guard and marched toward her, pointing it at her head.

However, Lily remained unfazed. “You know what I’m capable of, and I’m the only one who can neutralize the poison. Of course, feel free to kill me if you don’t believe me.”

Her cold and contemptuous look provoked Fred even further. He tightened his grip on the pistol, but she knew he could not pull the trigger.

“You bitch!” Fred trembled with anger.

“I will help you if you keep my children safe. But if you don’t fear dying, then so be it. I’ll die soon anyway.” Lily knew how Fred was; that was her only way to ensure he would not harm her babies.

Fred snapped. “Why should I believe you?!”

Lily smiled faintly, saying, “I can ask you the same.”

Fred nodded as he clenched his teeth angrily. “Fine! When will you give me the antidote?”

“You’ll have it when you release my children.” Lily guessed what Fred must be thinking and smiled. “Of course, you can also try getting someone else to make you an antidote.”

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2117-Lily spoke calmly, as if she controlled everything, “Don’t worry. The poison won’t take effect immediately. You have one week. If you can get someone to neutralize it soon enough, you don’t need to bother about me.”

Fred was unsure if he should believe her. After all, she could not have created a poison under his nose. Also, she could not have carried it with her through the transit points.

Fred remained silent, but his wavering eyes made it apparent that he believed her. He had to admit that what Lily said could be true. Furthermore, he had witnessed what she had accomplished and knew she was excellent at creating drugs.

‘I guess I screwed up,’ Fred thought.

“Your Grace!” The junior officer tried to rush Fred for an order, but the latter shouted impatiently, “Fuck off!”

Fred turned and looked at Lily deeply. He wanted to rip her to shreds but could only glare at her, saying, “Lock her up and stop feeding her. Keep a tight watch on her, too!”

“But Your Grace, if we don’t give her food, Her Majesty might—”

“I’ll take full responsibility!” Fred said as he hurried outside and tossed the pistol to a guard.

When everyone left, Lily sighed in relief. However, she dared not let her guard down or reveal even a hint of vulnerability since surveillance cameras were everywhere.

Meanwhile, what she told Fred was a half-truth. Indeed, she had secretly created the so-called “poison” from the drugs she had swiped and stashed over time. However, what she made was not poisonous.

Most of the daily drugs the nurses gave her were supplements. Although it was not easy to create poisons out of them, she was able to make something that could weaken Fred or disturb his stomach.

She knew Fred would make several trips to the toilet in the next few days, especially with his Yudonian dietary habits. He would also likely experience vomiting, dizziness, weakness, and fatigue, among other symptoms.

Since Fred was paranoid, Lily believed he would fall for her half-truth. Although she would not achieve much, she could at least ensure her children’s safety for a while. Moreover, she could only bide her time for now.

Fred briskly left and suddenly stopped after walking for a distance. His action was so sudden that those following behind crashed into him.

He felt something was wrong as a stinging and numbing sensation spread across his body. His limbs also had no strength, and even his vision seemed blurry. He shook his head vigorously and convinced himself he was just imagining things and that Lily must have lied about the poison.

‘Still, I feel uncomfortable. Damn it!’

Fred punched the wall, angry at himself for letting something like that happen. He thought he had everything under control, and Lily would never dare do anything to him, nor would she have a chance to do so.

However, he had underestimated her. He never expected her to sneak attack him or even secretly create a poison after being held captive for so long.

‘My damn arm is hurt, too!’

Fred looked at his dangling arm and grew furious. Since his arm had become numb due to extreme pain, he almost forgot that she had broken it. He only remembered it after punching the wall using his other arm.

His pain was so intense as he stared at his broken arm that he could hardly breathe. Fred suppressed a growl and slowly crouched down while holding his broken arm.

“Your Grace!” The others were alarmed and hastily surrounded him. They thought his arm was okay since he was walking briskly just now.

“Get me a doctor!” Fred said through clenched teeth.

“Right away, sir!” The guard hesitated, then added, “What about the Hyderland officers?”

“Tell them to…” Fred wanted to say “fuck off” but thought otherwise. He remembered he was not in Yudonia, where he could do whatever he wanted.

Instead, he took a deep breath and said, “Tell them to wait in the reception room, and I’ll come and meet them after taking care of something important.”

After a pause, he added, “Tell them the embassy doesn’t require their services because we have our own professional sanitation team and equipment. Besides, there are no viruses here!”

“Yes, sir!” The guard hurried off.

However, Fred’s eyes rolled as he struggled to get up. Immediately after, he collapsed and passed out as he could no longer withstand the pain. The others scrambled to carry him to the lounge and got a doctor to examine him.

Meanwhile, five people wearing hazmat suits carrying professional disinfection tools stood in the reception room. One of them said, “When will the ambassador arrive? We have other places to disinfect, too. Can you please hurry up and cooperate with us?”

The pain caused Fred to stay wide awake. He glanced at the wall clock and then the doctor, asking, “How much longer?”

"About 30 minutes," the doctor replied as he carefully applied the splint to Fred’s arm.

“Is it broken? Can you save my arm?” That was what Fred cared about most.

The doctor shook his head. “Your Grace, you didn’t exactly break your arm. However, it is dislocated.”

“Dislocated?”

“A unique force somehow dislocated your arm at the joint without damaging the bone. Still, I must apply a splint and properly bandage it. It’s best not to use your arm for some time after I finish, okay?" The doctor explained with a frown while applying the splint.

“Hey, why are you applying the splint if it's not broken?” Fred got impatient. “I don’t have 30 minutes, okay? I’ve got other things to do!”

He lost his temper as he tried vainly to get off the bed. “Get your hands off me!”

“Your Grace, please stay still for your arm’s sake,” someone said, refusing to let go of Fred.

“I have urgent matters to tend to. Hands off now, or I’ll punish you all for disobeying my orders!” Fred spoke sternly.

Alarmed, others could only do as he said. He sat up on the bed and flexed his legs. He then tried to move the injured arm. It was still painful, and he could not move it freely. Still, it did not hurt as much as before.

Fred felt the injury was not a big deal and tried getting up. However, when his feet reached the ground, he remembered something and turned to the doctor. “I might’ve gotten poisoned. Do you know about it?”

Puzzled, the doctor shook his head. “Well, I… didn’t know that.”

“You call yourself a doctor?” Fred scolded in frustration. Feeling that he was being too irritable, he took a deep breath. He had never been in such a terrible mood until recently. His patience was wearing thin.

He shut his eyes before slowly opening them again, saying, “Draw my blood.”

“Huh?” Puzzled, the doctor quickly caught on. “Right away, sir!”

After getting the nurse to bring him what he needed, he poked the needle into Fred’s vein to collect blood for analysis.

Fred felt a sting as he watched the doctor draw his blood. However, the pain was nothing compared to the humiliation he felt.

He rarely got sick and only received injections a few times. Yet, he had to have his blood drawn for what Lily did to him.

Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 2120-Fred recalled what Lily did when he spied on her and asked, “Can’t you just feel my wrist and tell me if I’m poisoned?”

The doctor answered calmly, “You’re talking about checking your wrist pulse, huh? I’m sorry, I’ve never undergone such training before. However, I am interested in learning about it. I tried before, but I couldn’t master it.”

The doctor looked regretful while Fred rolled his eyes.

When the doctor finished drawing blood, Fred held a piece of sterile cotton against his vein and stood up. “How long will it take to know the results?”

“About 30 minutes.”

“30 minutes again?” Fred gritted his teeth and glared at the doctor. “Fine, I’ll give you 30 minutes! Report to me once the results are out, got it?”

‘If the analysis indicates that I’m not poisoned, I’ll make Lily pay for this!’

As he was leaving, someone stumbled in. “Your Grace, those men have started sanitizing the embassy!”

“What?!” Fred widened his eyes in disbelief. “How dare they do it without my permission?”

The men in hazmat suits claimed their higher-ups had already sent a written notice, and the embassy staff could not stop them. Since Fred was not around, his subordinates dared not turn the men away.

“They’ve gone too far!” Fred threw the bloodied cotton, exclaiming, “Take me to them!”

He marched ahead. Soon after, he saw someone in a hazmat suit spraying disinfectant around.

“Knock it off!” Fred’s voice was stern. “You’re not allowed to do this. You’re in the embassy, all right? How dare you come in here without my permission?”

The man stopped spraying and said blandly, “It’s indeed the embassy, but don’t forget you’re in Hyderland. Besides, we’re disinfecting the palace to ensure your workers’ safety. Please cooperate.”

Fred responded, “I don’t know what you’re spraying here. How would I know if you’re here to steal classified information? All of you, get the hell out of the embassy now!”

“Come on, we’re just following orders, Your Grace.”

“No one notified me about this. Besides, I don’t have to obey your commands. I’m Yudonian, not a Hylander!” Fred exclaimed arrogantly.

Seeing the man refused to budge, Fred tilted his head. “Escort them out, now!”

“Yes, sir!” Just as Fred’s subordinates were about to take action, Fred’s phone rang. He did not want to accept the call, but it kept ringing. Also, only a few knew his private number.

After some hesitation, he checked the caller ID and was shocked. He glanced at the Hyderland officer and turned around while answering the call.
