Ch. 1891..1900
Chapter 1891
Lance’s tone was gentle. He looked at her patiently with guilt and adoration in his eyes.
After thinking about it all night, Lance felt that the best way to solve this problem was to explain it clearly.
Last night, they had too many misunderstandings, and he was too irritated, so he was not sensible enough.
Yvette had also been drinking and was not sober enough.
However, they had completely calmed down today.
Seeing as Yvette did not make a sound, Lance paused and changed from rubbing her wrist to holding her hand.
“Don’t overthink things. We’ll be together forever and ever.”
He then brought her hand to his lips and gently kissed it.
Yvette was stunned. She was soft-hearted and did not attack him as aggressively as before.
She just kept looking at Lance.
She was trying to see if he was lying or if he had any difference between today and last night.
Be together forever and ever.
It sounded so childish, but those words went straight to her heart.
Yvette had to admit that she was moved at that moment.
The defenses she built instantly collapsed.
Yvette thought, ‘Shouldn’t I give him one more chance?’
She did not make a sound as she saw Lance smiling at her. Lance then opened the car door and got out, but she was still sitting inside the car.
After a short wait, the passenger door was also opened.
Lance held Yvette’s hand and led her out of the car.
They walked hand in hand into the elevator together and were not afraid that others would see them.
In the past, Lance was not used to showing affection in the office because he wanted to keep his image. He especially did not want their colleagues to start gossiping.
However, at this moment, Lance wanted everyone to see them together.
The two of them went upstairs holding hands and went directly to the top floor office.
Lance was in a good mood. While he pulled her out, he turned back and said, “Let’s go to my mom’s place for dinner tonight. She said that she made your favorite baby back ribs just for you.”
Yvette’s eyes finally showed a hint of joy. However, in the next second, they came to a stop.
The assistant and colleagues all looked at each other.
The assistant stepped forward and braced himself before he spoke.
“Mr. Sheldon, Ms. Locke came over early in the morning to wait for you, saying that she has something important to tell you...”
In fact, there was no need for him to report to Lance since Whitney was sitting right in front of Lance’s office door. Her eyes were slightly red and pitiful, but she had a strong gaze.
Whitney looked at the couple.
Lance tightened his grip. Somehow, he subconsciously panicked and turned his head to look at Yvette.
Yvette was smiling just like yesterday, looking cold and polite.
Her smile kept people at arm’s length.
Yvette lowered her eyes. Her tone was indifferent as she said, “Then you guys should talk. Saul, prepare the materials for the meeting and get everyone to the conference room in five minutes.”
She did not even look at Whitney and went straight to her office.
The atmosphere was very awkward, but Yvette did not care. It was as if she did not see Whitney.
Everyone was siding with Yvette because who did not like a lady boss without an attitude?
However, that scene yesterday afternoon was too shocking.
They could not and dared not stop Whitney.
Lance watched as Yvette left. He suddenly recalled what he said earlier in the underground parking lot,
that Whitney would not show up in the office today or in the future.
As a result, he had to eat his words so soon.
It seemed that his employees were not so diligent after all.
Whitney walked over to Lance. Her tone was a little choked up, and more than anything, she refused to comply.
“Why do you want me to leave the company? What mistakes have I made? You’re not someone who abuses your power for personal reasons, and we don’t have a grudge...”
Lance saw that Yvette had already closed her office door. Suddenly, he could not suppress his emotions.
“It’s my decision. Your existence will affect my life, so I got them to dismiss you. I don’t care if you leave the country or join another company. Just don’t show up here again.”
Chapter 1892
Lance spoke decisively.
He did not drag his feet, and he was not sympathetic or indecisive like the day before.
Whitney’s face turned pale.
“Is our past that embarrassing? You promised to marry me and even said that marriage doesn’t matter to you
Her words were almost incoherent. Lance coldly interrupted her.
“You know full well that our past was nothing. Even if it wasn’t you back then, I’d still say the same thing. I didn’t say that because of you.”
Whitney’s body swayed, and her face was glum.
Her eyes were bloodshot as she held back her tears.
“I accompanied you through your toughest time. I don’t believe that you’ll forget that.”
Lance’s eyes turned colder.
“I could get through that time because of myself, not because you turned around the situation for me. Don’t think so highly of yourself.”
Whitney sucked in a breath, finally realizing that Lance had changed.
Actually, he did not change.
Lance used to be more lenient toward women, but here he was, refuting her wishful thinking one sentence at a time.
Unlike before, Lance did not take anything she said to heart and laughed it off.
It was as if he liked her, but he did not. Now, he wanted to break it off with her.
Whitney saw this clearly. Although they were together, it was because of her initiative.
He would have been the same way if it was another person.
Who was this man who was not bothered to know about his female companions?
He was not affectionate enough, nor was he promiscuous.
He just did not care.
Back then, Whitney left because Lance was slow to mention marriage even after he passed the tough time in his career.
She wanted to advance further, so she took the opportunity given by Lance’s mother to take a step back.
Her motive was to get his attention and to make him realize her importance.
Thus, she left.
However, who would have thought that he would get
married as soon as she left?
She suddenly became a part of his past, which was not her intention.
Whitney investigated Lance’s marriage partner before she returned.
It was not difficult to inquire about Yvette since her affairs were chaotic. Such a woman was the complete opposite of Lance’s preference.
They should not be able to get along at all.
However, after a while, it turned out that everything was beyond Whitney’s expectations.
Lance and Yvette were actually so sweet together.
In those photos, Lance had such happiness and joy in his eyes that could not be faked.
When Lance was with Whitney, he never looked like this.
Whitney was unwilling to give up.
She refused to accept it, so she came back.
At that moment, Lance was not even bothered to be courteous to Whitney.
Whitney sobbed for a long time and looked at Lance with red eyes.
“What are you trying to do?” Lance’s tone was indifferent.
“You can keep the money you took from my mother,
and the company will also compensate you for your dismissal. You should find a new job.”
After saying that, he left and looked at the assistant, who was standing dumbfounded next to him.
“Go and find out whose elevator card she used to get up here. That person doesn’t have to come up here in the future.”
The assistant’s expression changed as he thought, She even dragged others down with her?’
He walked over and reached out. “Ms. Locke...”
Ordinary employees did not have access to the top- floor office unless they had a director’s elevator card or the assistant’s special access card.
Without Lance and Yvette’s instructions, how could the assistant give Whitney special access?
However, Whitney was standing there, which meant that she took a certain director’s card.
This director was in trouble.
Whitney’s face turned pale. She threw the card at the assistant and left.
What a big temper! The assistant bent down to pick the card up. He took a look at the name and put it away...
Chapter 1893
Everyone had seen enough drama and felt relieved. Fortunately, Lance did not let them down.
His words just now were incredibly satisfying. He did not give Whitney any opportunity, which should be the way a good husband treated his ex-girlfriend.
Everyone was happy for Yvette because this meant that they had no problem in their relationship.
Yesterday must have been a misunderstanding.
Lance did not go to his office. Instead, he went in the direction of Yvette’s office.
He knocked on the door, but there was no response. However, he could hear a soft voice speaking inside. He paused for a moment before pushing the door in.
Yvette was talking to someone on the phone with a relaxed expression.
While Yvette spoke, she looked up at Lance and finally looked away casually. Her voice was dull, and she sounded familiar with the person.
“I know, impulsiveness is the devil. Of course, I’m not worried about it. Don’t I still have you?”
Lance walked inside and sat on the sofa to wait for her.
He was not sure if Yvette was angry because of Whitney’s appearance this morning.
Initially, Lance thought that the call would be over soon.
As a result, Yvette showed no intention of ending the call. The assistant even came in several times to remind her that everyone was waiting in the conference room.
Yvette just nodded, indicating that she knew, then continued on to the next topic.
When the assistant came in again, he could only cast a pleading glance at Lance.
Lance loosened his collar, wrinkled his eyebrows, and knocked on the desk.
“You can talk. I’ll attend the meeting for you.”
This was really something that the assistant wished for.
Lance also wanted to find the opportunity to talk to Yvette, but she did not give him the opportunity.
Once they left, the room became quiet.
The person that Yvette was talking to asked, “Lance was there earlier?”
Yvette laughed lightly and replied, “He’s just feeling guilty.”
Nicole sighed. “Don’t say that. I got someone to investigate it. Lance and his ex-girlfriend didn’t have much feelings for each other. She used to be his assistant that took care of his day-to-day issues. One day, she drank too much on behalf of Lance at a drinking party that she got gastritis. I guess Lance was touched by that, so the two of them started dating. But even so, they didn’t meet that often either because Lance’s company was going through some tough times. He was busy with social engagements and didn’t have time to date. Meeting her once a month was already considered a good thing. That’s why he only had one legitimate girlfriend after all those years. So, after some time, outsiders thought that the two of them had a good relationship. In fact, I don’t think that they had a good relationship. After all, Lance didn’t miss her at all or contact her after she left the country.”
Nicole briefly explained the information that she got from asking someone to investigate overnight.
Yvette’s drunken call yesterday truly worried Nicole. She was afraid that her best friend would suffer a loss.
Fortunately, Lance’s background came out clean, and the investigation was not too difficult.
It turned out to be a story of an abject gentry’s business struggles.
After a long time, Yvette finally said, “How can they not have feelings for each other after dating for so many years?”
“Miss Yvette Quimbey, you gotta acknowledge that he was a free spirit before you showed up in his life. This time, it’s obvious that his ex-girlfriend deliberately came back to pick a fight with you. What’s most important is his attitude. If he has a good attitude, then you shouldn’t make it such a big deal, lest you both fall out of love with each other...”
Nicole drank a sip of water and patiently advised Yvette.
Yvette sighed. “I know. I actually made up my mind to get a separation and find an opportunity to divorce him. But this morning, he had a heart-to-heart talk with me, which made me waver again. I want to trust him again, but that woman showed up here this morning. She just ruined my mood!”
Chapter 1894
Nicole said, “Don’t do anything to her as long as she doesn’t actively seek you out. Let Lance settle his own affairs.”
Yvette pursed her lips. “I think so too. I don’t wanna get my hands dirty!”
The two ladies talked for a while longer.
Nicole noticed that Yvette did not have the same negative emotions as yesterday, so she finally hung up the phone feeling reassured.
Clayton hugged Nicole from behind and let out a laugh.
“You’re really taking matters into your own hands, huh? Are the company’s affairs still not enough to keep you busy?”
Nicole sighed helplessly. “Well, I don’t have a choice. If it was anyone else, they could probably let go of it after a few years. But Yvette’s different. She’ll definitely get a divorce as long as she finds out Lance has an affair. She might look like she doesn’t care about anything on the surface, but she gives her all when she likes someone.”
Clayton rubbed Nicole’s neck and kissed her. “Well, Lance is really unlucky to have such an ex.”
Nicole raised her eyebrows at him. She laughed and reached out to smooth out the folds of his collar. “ Right. You don’t even have an ex, which is amazing. It really saved me a lot of trouble!”
Clayton squinted and laughed. His eyes were filled with joy, and his arm around her waist tightened slightly. “ Then... How will you reward me?”
H is voice was deep, husky, and extremely seductive.
Nicole’s heart softened. She went forward to kiss him. Their lips and tongues were entangled, and they were inseparable.
When Clayton’s hands were roaming all over Nicole’s body, they suddenly heard a baby’s cry.
Nicole suddenly pushed Clayton away and ran in the direction of the cry.
Clayton helplessly rubbed his temples and thought, ‘My darling daughter, why did you have to spoil my fun at this time?!’
Yvette hung up the phone and took her time going to the meeting room.
In fact, this meeting was to plan the next phase, which she already had an idea about.
When she pushed the door in, she saw Lance sitting at the head of the table while the employees were reporting their work to him with trepidation.
Lance’s eyes softened for a moment, and he beckoned to her when Yvette came in.
There was an empty seat next to Lance, so Yvette sat down.
One of the department heads saw Yvette and breathed a sigh of relief.
“Ms. Quimbey, you came just in time. We were just discussing the candidate for supervising that construction project in Cali. The candidate selection is crucial not only to supervise the construction of that bad project but also to investigate the poor bookkeeping of our Cali branch. Do you have any recommendations for a suitable candidate?”
This candidate had to be one of their trusted personnel.
Everyone present wanted to recommend one of their own, but no one wanted to compromise.
That was why there was such a stalemate.
In the end, it would be best to leave this decision to Yvette.
Yvette smiled and did not hesitate.
“I know. I decided a long time ago to go personally.” Everyone looked over in shock.
It was out of their expectation.
Supervising this project in Cali was not just a heavy task, but it would also take at least half a year.
Once Yvette said this, Lance’s face became gloomy and sullen.
He grabbed the proposal in front of him with clenched fists.
It was clear that Lance was even more shocked. “No way.”
Lance immediately spoke.
Yvette smiled and swept a glance at the crowd. Her voice was gentle without any fluctuations.
“In fact, I know that usually, the vice president would attend to this sort of thing. But you guys are overly concerned about me being Mr. Sheldon’s wife as well as a newbie who just took on this job. That’s why you all don’t want me to work too hard. I’m also an employee of the company, so I should do my duties. There’s no reason to walk on eggshells around me just because of my status, right?” Yvette smiled and looked at Lance with such pure and gentle eyes that did not have other emotions.
Chapter 1895
The conference room was quiet silent.
Lance fixed his gaze on her, hoping to see a hint of rage on her face.
But….
She appears to have made a decision a long time ago and only recently announced it at this meeting.
Lance's face was ugly, and he looked at her for a few seconds silently: "You are not prepared, you cannot begin when you go; it is preferable to go to someone else."
Yvette anticipated his objection.
She cocked her brow and said, "Cali will not be prepared simply because I am not. How will Cali respond to a well-prepared high-level executive and a me who doesn't understand anything?"
Lance face was tense, and he stared at her without saying anything.
Someone further down nodded in agreement:
"It's logical."
Lance's stern eyes swept over him in an instant.
Even if everyone in their hearts agrees, they dare not agree.
The conference room had an unusually tense atmosphere.
They realised it was Lance who refused to let go.
Right.
People are inextricably linked to the company here. Wouldn't Yvette have to be alone for half a year if Lance let her go?
There was a brief silence.
Yvette couldn't help but cough:
"If you don't have an opinion, decide…"
"We'll talk about it next time."
Lance abruptly stood up, his voice shocking, and his momentum threatening. He snatched Yvette's wrist and walked away.
The others looked at each other, puzzled.
Until the last assistant entered the room and coughed:
"Director Collins, please stay a little longer."
Director Collins was stunned for a moment, watching everyone leave one by one while remaining seated.
"Does President Sheldon need me for something?" The assistant shook his head, smiled, and pulled the following card from his pocket:
"Does this card belong to you?"
"Yes."
The assistant smiled and said, "According to the company's regulations, this card can be used to enter the office area and leisure area above the 12th floor, but this card can only be used by yourself, you won't forget it?"
Director Collins smiled uncomfortably:
"How could I have forgotten? I just gave it to Whitney. Isn't that newcomer connected to President Sheldon?"
Director Collins blinked, presumably knowing about Whitney and Lance's past.
The assistant coughed and gave him a solemn look:
"Director Collins, I humbly convey President Sheldon's message: you have seriously violated the company's system and have been disqualified from the original. You can share your card with others in future meetings, and if you are a private person, you should avoid going to 12. The area immediately above the building."
Director Collins's expression changed: "What exactly? I just borrowed it from President Sheldon's ex, isn't she?"
The assistant said lightheartedly:
"The entire company has been fired, with the exception of Whitney, and you can do it yourself."
For a brief moment, Director Collins lost his strength and slumped in his chair.
His skin was pale.
His past inconspicuous behaviour can actually become his weakness.
He assumed Whitney had a good relationship with Lance and couldn't possibly offend him.
But who knew it would irritate Lance?
The assistant turned around and walked away, followed by Director Collins, who was flustered:
"Didn't you say Mr. Sheldon wouldn't be mad at me?"
The assistant smiled but did not say anything.
Why should you confiscate your card if you're not upset?
"He's not going to let me out, is he? This position is not available in other companies at my age!"
He is now concerned that only his job will be kept. He is aware of the gloom caused by middle-aged unemployment among those around him. He was afraid of falling on his own head.
Isn't Lance's action a strong warning?
Are you going to do anything to him in the next step?
Chapter 1896
The assistant calmly smiled: "I haven't received a notification yet, Director Collins. If there is a personnel change, the personnel will contact you."
Director Collins's face was pale and his soul was lost.
The assistant turned his gaze away lightly, but fortunately he was always by Yvette's side!
Lance drove Yvette back to the office, where she struggled but grew impatient.
She was able to break free once she was inside.
The wrist is rubbed by one hand. This poor wrist was harmed twice a day.
She gave him a dissatisfied look, "What exactly are you doing? Did you take the incorrect medication?"
Lance stood there, his fists slightly clenched:
"Why didn't you consult with me first?"
He was discussing going on a business trip to Cali.
Yvette's face was light and she raised her eyebrows: "This is official business. It should be discussed within the company. Why should I consult with you in advance? It's not too late to find out right now!"
Nothing was wrong with what she said.
But Lance was irritated, as if something were about to burst out of his chest.
"Are you still mad at Whitney? I've made it perfectly clear to her…"
Yvette interrupted him with a light smile:
"Lance, I'm not a person who disregards the distinction between public and private, The matter with her has nothing to do with me, and I've considered going to Cali, so don't mix it up."
Lance's face was pallid: "Do you realise how dangerous it is? Can you stand it for six months?"
He was unconcerned about the mission failing.
But there are far too many dangers lurking there, and the source of the confusion in the accounts is the lawlessness of the forces in charge. But who knows what crazy things they'll do once they're designed for personal gain?
He can't put Yvette in danger.
When Yvette noticed how angry he was, her face softened slightly.
Shee smiled, walked over to him, grabbed his arm, and lowered his voice: "I know, of course I'll be cautious; just treat it as if I'd practised before; don't you always wish for me to mature as soon as possible? Isn't Cali the best option?"
Lance's face was frozen, as were his eyes: "No, I'm not going to agree. I've already made my decision."
Yvette's demeanour was also firm.
"I'm not permitted, and you are not permitted." Lance clenched his teeth.
"Then I'll resign." Yvette said, looking at him.
The atmosphere between the two became tense again.
Last night, it appears to have returned to the cold war state.
Yvette turned and walked out of her office.
The people outside were still perplexed. Why did they fight again when it was obvious that the third party Whitney was no longer a threat?
Yvette sat silently in her office.
Soon.
Someone outside the door knocked.
"Ms. Quimbey, are you still angry?" the assistant asked, holding a cup of rose tea she liked.
Yvette laughed, "What exactly? Have you had your fill of excitement this morning?"
Any joke is possible.
The assistant is also not afraid of her. Yvette is simply too good to serve in comparison to Lance.
A few kind words can make her happy.
"We all support you; we can't believe Mr. Sheldon that he's always that way; hey, I blame Ms. Quimbey; you're too good, so you're always envied!"
Yvette couldn't stop smiling.
"It's over now. Don't talk about it, and don't spread it around; the province will have an impact on the company's stock market."
The assistant came to a halt and looked at her with admiration:
"President Quimbey continues to see the big picture, which most people do not. This ground! I'll tell you to get going right now!"
Yvette was not angry, and she was still in the mood to joke with him, implying that she had not ended her relationship with President Sheldon!
Chapter 1897
In the end, How can people who have broken up be interested in the company's stock?
Yvette looked at the door silently, her smile restrained.
She considered it and called her mom to inform her.
Mrs. Quimbey paused for a minute before inquiring: "Are you sure you're going?"
Yvette replied, "If I don't go, I'll never be able to hold on, and I'll never be under your and the Sheldon family's wings to live a lifetime?"
Mrs. Quimbey sighed, most likely after much thought.
"You are free to go, but you must be aware of the danger. I want you to grow up, but I don't want you to have an accident, do you understand?"
Yvette responded with a sour look in her eyes.
"I know, Mother, but Lance hasn't let go. I'm curious if you could say hello to Aunt Fiona. Lance's life will be much easier if she agrees."
"All right, let me tell you." Mrs. Quimbey said after a brief pause.
After a few seconds, she repeated, "I heard something bad happened to you. Lance's ex went in search of him?
You didn't suffer, did you?"
Yvette burst out laughing.
"Obviously not. Others may be concerned about the future of my relationship with Lance. Why do you enquire?"
Mrs. Quimbey scoffed, "I can't stand by and watch you get bullied. Despite the fact that it was said to be a marriage, I am also. I have chosen carefully for you. Lance is a nice guy, so he agreed to marry you.
But if he bullies you, I will not stand by and do nothing.
If you have complaints, don't put up with it. If you really can't get along, the divorced mother will back you up."
Yvette initially smiled. Later, her tears became uncontrollable.
Over the phone.
She cried silently because she couldn't imagine Mrs. Quimbey's expression when she said these words.
Mrs. Quimbey has always complained to her that she despises iron and steel, and she is the helpless daughter.
She's always causing trouble outside, and Mrs. Quimbey runs the company by herself and wipes her *ss.
Mrs. Quimbey expected her marriage to Lance to be the most fulfilling time of her life.
As a result, her first reaction when confronted with something is to endure it before considering the best way to defend herself.
Despite the fact that she knew the end was near, she decided to persevere.
In terms of marriage, Yvette has already given up her entire life, and all she can say is that she is unlucky. Because she knew in her heart that Mrs. Quimbey would not agree to a divorce.
She suddenly felt that all the grievances she had swallowed had reasons to spill out now that she had heard her words. She was free of the shackles and shackles in an instant, and she no longer had any scruples.
She is the Quimbey family's eldest lady, arrogant and fearless.
Both parties are silent.
Mrs. Quimbey didn't have to say anything; she simply sighed. "Marriage and falling in love are two distinct things. You're still too young, you're always motivated, and feelings are just icing on the cake. I have no relationship with your deceased father's money that you lavishly spend on weekdays. You must mature responsibly on your own. so that you are not bullied" This was something she frequently said.
Yvette, on the other hand, listened this time. She remained silent, wiped her tears away, and said: "I got it, Mom."
Mrs. Quimbey responded, but she had something else to say. Someone knocked on the door and entered as if they were a visitor. She was always on the go.
Yvette didn't pull her to talk and smiled as she hung up the phone.
Lance and Whitney were successful in teaching her a lesson.
Whitney's appearance was not pure, she realised.
However, She believed that she could be replaced in Mrs. Sheldon's position.
Chapter 1898
Because she was in the stairwell and Lance did not stand up to speak for her. After all, she didn't believe it was worthwhile.
What good is her self-pity?
What is the point of caring what other people think?
She has loved someone generously, and even if there is no happy ending, her love is still strong. She took her feelings too seriously for the first half of her life.
Sean came first, then Lance.
Lance had done nothing wrong and was completely innocent.
But she had a revelation.
A new marriage with his sweetheart is a wonderful memory. But she can't stay there forever.
She is incompetent in her own right, and she will always be Mrs. Sheldon. When Lance gives her face, others will only refer to her as "President Quimbey."
She didn't seem to be upset about anything.
Those awkward things don't matter once you figure it out.
She took a deep breath and began gathering materials for her trip to Cali.
Lance didn't let go; in fact, he saw a lot of people this morning and intended to find someone to replace Yvette.
Have a meal.
Yvette had originally intended to eat at the staff canteen.
As a result, the assistant came in and knocked on the door, saying, "Mr. Sheldon ordered the dishes in the private kitchen for you to eat."
Yvette took a breather and nodded.
"Oh, I see."
She extended her hand, and she wanted to talk as well. In addition to falling in love, two people cannot be angry all of the time.
Love can't last forever.
Yvette's IQ increased after she felt she had no brain for love! She rapped on the door and walked right in.
Lance sat on the sofa, opened the insulated food boxes one at a time, looked at her, paused, and finally said, "Did you wash your hands?"
Yvette raised her eyebrows, turned around, and went to bathroom.
"I can't have you there, but you can."
Lance laughed lightly: "If you like it here, we can switch offices."
Yvette came out after washing her hands and seeing that he wasn't joking. She couldn't stand it any longer.
"You're the general manager, I'm the vice president; how can I exceed your expectations?"
Lance gave her a glance and handed her chopsticks.
"Get up and eat."
Yvette was quite hungry. She didn't hesitate to sit down and eat when she saw the delicious food.
Lance did nothing but observe her eating.
She was used to talking and laughing, but in the last two days, she had revealed another side of herself to him.
When she laughs, she distances herself from indifference, she quietly distances herself from him, and she looks at him indifferently.
Lance went up and down like a roller coaster in just a few days, and he was so tired that he lost half his life.
Yvette ate for a while before realising he hadn't done anything.
"Why aren't you eating?"
Lance twitched his lips and looked her in the eyes:
"You eat, I don't want to."
Yvette swallowed, sipped her water, set her chopsticks down, and looked at him:
"Do you have anything to say to me?"
Lance expression indicated that he had something to say. He looked at her with heavy eyes and didn't show any of his previous emotions. He couldn't figure out what he was thinking right now.
"I've already arranged for someone to accompany me to Cali."
Yvette's face became frozen.
Lance rested his arms on his legs and looked her in the eyes without squinting:
"I'm still working on a municipal construction project that you can use for practise."
Yvette lowered her gaze, clearly unhappy.
As if casually, she hooked her lower lip: "Municipal construction is a shambles; it's like giving me money for nothing; can you give me some hand training?"
Her distinct voice has a somewhat lazy tone, casual but with a hint of disdain.
Chapter 1899
Lance's eyes clearly sank. He was surprised by Yvette's reaction.
Lance was dissatisfied. He would be overjoyed if it was before. But there was no joy in his face. He was devastated.
"Are you still blaming me, Yvette?"
"Which thing are you referring to?" Yvette asked, lifting her eyelids.
Lance had done a lot of things that made her unhappy invisibly.
The two have never experienced such a chasm in their marriage.
Lance pursed his lips and looked at her, his gaze fixed on the expression on her face: "This is all about Whitney."
"It's all over, isn't it?" Yvette said indifferently.
Lance furrowed his brow: "You are free to express your dissatisfaction."
Yvette said, "I knew this person existed before I got married, she couldn't be a threat to me, I'm not unhappy."
And I, too, have an ex, so you don't have to explain it too many times."
Lance's heart tensed as she mentioned his ex.
Whitney's existence was more profound than her predecessor's.
I'm afraid Sean wouldn't be able to deal with it calmly if he turned back to her.
As a result, Yvette's reaction was unexpected.
There was no argument, no fuss, and no hanging.
What else is he unhappy about?
But there was an audible sigh in his chest.
It will not dissipate.
"It has something to do with going to Cali." As I previously stated, you are unsuitable. It is too dangerous for you to handle." Lance's tone was low, and he had patiently persuaded her.
Yvette sat there, slightly frowning: "What makes you think that? You already judged my failure before I went?"
"What if something were to happen to you?" Lance's voice was a little tense.
"I'll be careful, and it's not like I don't have bodyguards and assistants by my side." Yvette said.
"What you believe is overly simplistic. Bodyguards and assistants cannot solve this problem. You have the ability to do anything crazy."
Unconsciously, his fists clenched.
Yvette gave a nod: "I'm mentally prepared, and I'm not going down without a fight."
Lance, this is my first time taking a job seriously. Not on your or my mother's shoulders, but on my own. Let's be honest.
Lance took a deep breath and his brow furrowed slightly: "Yvette, practise your hands here; isn't it bad to go shopping and spend money when you're bored?"
Do you enjoy this way of life? Why do you have to put yourself in danger? "What are your plans?"
Yvette raised her head and smiled slowly at him.
She sighed and said, "You don't need to control me like that because I'm your wife and your subordinate, not your daughter."
Of course, I enjoyed those days when I was high on money, but I was always uneasy, so I decided to stand up and try it myself. Lance remained silent, his gaze fixed on her face.
For quite some time, Nobody took the initiative.
"What if I still disagree?" Lance asked, lowering his head.
How can he feel at ease leaving her in such a dangerous situation?
"Then I will resign." Yvette said.
Lance fixed his dark eyes on her: "Are you sure you're serious?"
"I'm not kidding; it's like going back to work at Quimbey's family business but my mother will not control me with her hands and feet, and she will undoubtedly support what I want to do."
She requires the opportunity to mature on her own.
Lance remained silent and did not speak again. He was nearly helpless in the face of Yvette, unable to do anything.
Yvette became obstinate, and no one could help her…
Chapter 1900
Yvette had already prepared a gift after agreeing to go to Fiona's house.
When Lance went back, let the driver pick him up.
He and Yvette sat in the back, and neither of them said anything for a long time.
The driver is still a little uneasy.
Yvette used to always chatter and talk nonstop. Despite her casual listening, Lance always answered questions and responded to every sentence. Everyone had grown accustomed to it.
So quiet suddenly.
Strangely unsettling.
They didn't say anything, nor did the driver.
And so on to the residence of Fiona.
The area is not large for a single-family villa, but there are gardens in front and back, and the scenery is spectacular.
Lance purchased the villa here as soon as the land was developed.
The nanny smiled and approached the door:
"You have arrived. Madam has been extremely busy."
Lance nodded and motioned Yvette inside.
When Fiona saw Yvette's friendly face, her smile transformed into a flower, which she liked very much. She hugged and hugged before reluctantly letting go: "Why are you so thin, my darling?"
She grumbled as she looked at Lance.
"I don't speak because I'm afraid of being beaten." Lance shrugged.
It's impossible to say she's not thin, let alone thin.
It's best if you keep your mouth shut.
Yvette smiled as she entered, her arms around her shoulders:
"I'm fine, Mom; do you like the silk scarf and perfume I gave you?"
She specifically chose it based on Fiona's preferences.
Really.
When Fiona took it out, her eyes shone brightly.
"It's the first time I've ever received such a thoughtful gift. It's definitely smoking on my ancestor's grave!"
Yvette couldn't stop laughing at her exaggerated appearance.
Lance: "…"
Yvette laughed as well, and the two of them resumed their previous intimate relationship the moment they entered the door.
Aunty came out, smiling, after carrying it from the inside: "There is another soup on the way; it will be ready soon; please wait."
Fiona drew Yvette to a seat. "So, a few days ago, I went shopping and saw a few If the bag is appropriate for you, I will purchase it and wait for you to arrive."
"If you had said earlier, I would definitely come every day, so don't feel bad about it." Yvette said.
"What am I sorry about? Everything is fine with me. I'm willing to hand it over to you."
"I called your mother, she is still in a meeting, she doesn't have this kind of good luck, I'll make an appointment with her next time." Fiona smiled.
Yvette gave a nod. Her trip today was not intended to be a typical family gathering.
Fiona has to say something.
Lance rolled up his sleeves, washed his hands, and assisted Fiona in serving the food.
It appears to be a significant difference.
Yvette gave it a quick glance before turning away.
When Fiona saw this, her heart froze for a moment, but her face quickly returned to normal, and she smiled as she moved on to other topics.
Everyone sits at the table until the meal is ready.
The three of them clink their glasses and take a sip of wine.
Yvette talked and laughed with Fiona as if nothing had happened, while Lance remained silent.
Fiona looked at the two before putting down her chopsticks solemnly.
"Actually, I invited you to come here today because I have something to tell you."
Yvette and Lance exchanged glances before putting down their chopsticks.
Lance gave a puzzled look: "What's the matter, Mom?"
Fiona looked him in the eyes, pursed her lips, and said calmly:
"On Whitney."
Lance's face stiffened, and he opened his mouth to say What, but because Yvette was also present, he didn't.
Yvette was stunned for a moment before smiling and saying, "Isn't she an ex-girlfriend? Is it worth such a solemn start?"
