The old man invited him in.
The old man’s wife poured a hot cup of tea for Edison and placed it in front of him. The old man asked her to go take a rest and asked, “What would you like to ask?”
“Mr. Bart Duval was shot to death a while ago. I’m here to investigate that.”
The man heard that and was shocked. “What? Bart is dead?
Edison nodded. “I heard that he used to be your neighbor, so I’d like to ask if you know much about him. Does he have any relatives?”
The rain started pouring.
After a long while, Edison said goodbye to the old man and walked to his car. He then stopped because he noticed that something was off.
A few men in black approached him in the rain.
The light of the study in Taylor Manor was still on. Lucius stood in front of the window, looking solemn and treacherous.
His phone that was on the desk started ringing, and he picked it up. The person said something to him, and he grasped his phone tightly.
After a long pause, he said, “Okay. Send someone to follow the people in the cabinet. Whoever leaks information will die.”
If that woman was going to disregard the loyalty of the Taylors, he had to do something about it.
The next day, in the meeting room of the palace…
The cabinet ministers gathered in the room and ‘protested‘ against Diana for protecting Nollace, who was a suspect. They even put in a word for the Taylors and thought that Diana should learn from the late king and not do as she pleased, which disappointed the ministers and aristocrats.
Diana listened to them with no expression and didn’t say anything.
It was tense.
Soon after that, the doors to the room opened.
Yorrick and Nollace walked in while everyone watched and whispered to each other.
They both took their seats, and Yorrick smiled. “Why are you so angry? Are you unhappy about Her Majesty’s decision?”
A minister said, “Your highness, we’re doing all this for the royal family’s sake. The prince is a suspect and should be cooperative with the investigation. Releasing him shows how lightly you are taking this
situation.”
“If the people of the other countries find out about this, that the prince doesn’t have to face lawful punishment, how will they see us? Won’t the people think that the royal family disregards the law?”
Diana frowned.
Yorrick was still smiling. “Well, can I say something that you might not like to hear?‘
Everyone listened.
Yorrick calmly said, “You think that Her Majesty is protecting His Highness, but does anyone have evidence that he is guilty?”
Another minister said, “His Highness started investigating the death of the woman who tried to harm his wife without permission, and when the killer was killed, his men were there. Before the police could look into the killer, His Highness already knew who the killer was. It looks like he was just trying to kill that person to shut them up.”
Nollace looked up but didn’t speak.
Yorrick chuckled before shrugging. “This is a motive, but I need evidence.”
Everyone was silent.
“Even the police need evidence before arresting someone, but they don’t have evidence, so why do you think you can say His Highness is the culprit?”
Someone said in a quiet tone, “But he has the biggest motive…”
“Are you talking about the inmate causing the princess’s miscarriage?” Yorrick placed the report from the hospital on the table. “She did try but didn’t succeed. The princess didn’t miscarry. Her helper ate the food and was sent to the hospital’s emergency ward. The helper can attest to that. The hospital has the bill for admission too.”

Yorrick then looked at the people. “So, His Highness‘ wife and offspring are fine. Why would he need to take revenge then?”
All the ministers were speechless. If that were the truth, Nollace would have no reason to poison the inmate because she didn’t succeed in her plan and cause any harm.
Nollace wouldn’t have a reason to take revenge.
Diana broke the silence and said, “You heard that. I know my son well enough. If I wanted to cover for him, why would I let the police investigate him? My son and daughter–in–law were wrongfully accused. Should I not say something?
“The matters of the country are important, but so are family matters. If I can’t even protect my family, how will I be able to run the country? I’m under pressure from all sides. Is this what you call loyalty? Should I vacate this throne and let you take it?”
“Your Majesty, that’s not what we meant-”
“Not what you meant? You’ve received so many benefits from the Taylors that you’re trying to take my power away from me?”
Diana’s speech put fear in everyone’s hearts.
She stood up. “That old fox supports the cabinet, and I can’t talk to you anymore. If that’s the case, he should take the throne, no?”
“Your Majesty, Lord Taylor really is loyal to the royal family.”
“Loyal. He’s crawling his way over me. What loyalty is that?” Diana slammed on the table and was furious. “When he let his daughter pay off that inmate to put a royal in danger, he didn’t show any signs of loyalty.”
Everyone was silent. They were trying to avoid confrontation.
Diana saw through them and chuckled while looking fierce. “Alright, if you’re all loyal to the Taylors, we’ll need a new set of cabinet members. It’s time that you retire. Thousands are ready and willing to take your place.”
She ignored the objection of everyone and left the meeting room. It was obvious that she was enraged about this.
Nollace and Yorrick left together. They walked along the corridor, but Yorrick stopped and turned to face him. “What do you think about that?”
Nollace’s eyes darted around, and he smiled. “Offense is the best defense.”
Yorrick smiled. “Lucious is very sneaky. Without enough evidence, there’s no way we can take him down. You saw how most of the cabinet members are his people. They’ve gotten a lot of benefits from him, so they don’t want to see him fall.”
All of them supported him because of what he could do for them. He made them rich men, so they would naturally keep their lips tight.
Lucius might have some leverage over them too.
Nollace squinted as he was deep in thought.
He walked to the door and watched while Yorrick got into the car, then he got a call.
He drove quickly to the hospital and saw the bodyguard rush toward him. “Your Highness.”
“How is he?”
He replied, “We were attacked up north, and they had guns. Edison took two bullets and was in surgery. He hasn’t come to yet.”
Nollace’s expression turned dark. “Did you see who your attackers were?”

“It was raining too heavily, so I didn’t get a good look. But based on their movements, I guess they’re mercenaries. They had no regard for their own safety.”
Nollace looked in the direction of the room, and after a long pause, he said, “Stay here and keep an eye
on him.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Nollace left the hospital, got into the car, and slammed on his steering wheel. The veins on the back of his hand popped up. However, he could be sure now.
All these were linked to the Taylors.
Now that Edison was in a coma and they had no evidence, the police wouldn’t be able to detain anyone for questioning.
He covered his face with his hands as the light shone through the gaps between his fingers.
After a few days, a voice recording was leaked by an anonymous hacker. The ‘dealings‘ between the Home Minister and Lucius were exposed and shocked the world.
Even after they spent a lot of money trying to cover it up, the magazines printed 10,000 copies overnight and were all sold out. Some were even shipped overseas.
When Lucius found out, he was furious. “Who did this!?”
The butler started sweating. “I… I don’t know. We’ve sent someone to investigate.”
“Bunch of trash!” He stormed out of the study.
His wife Bianca was holding a tray when she realized that something was wrong.
Since the public was very vocal about this, protesters and reporters crowded outside the office of the Home Minister.
The cabinet members tried very hard to avoid them.
When Lucius‘ car stopped outside the building, the reporters rushed forward but were blocked by over a dozen bodyguards.
“Lord Taylor, is the recording real?”
“Are you really involved in money laundering? Did you let the cabinet members do that?”
He avoided the cameras and didn’t give a comment.
He barged into the office of the Home Minister, who immediately stood up. “Lord Tayl-”
Before he finished, Lucius punched him to the floor.
The minister was in shock and didn’t feel the pain on his face. “Lord Taylor, it wasn’t me. This has nothing
to do with me!”
Lucius grabbed his collar and dragged him up. “Why would the media find out if it weren’t you? You made a recording?”
The minister didn’t know how the recording had been leaked. His voice was hoarse, so he just said, “I had to make a recording after doing what I’ve done for you. I had to protect myself, but I didn’t leak it.”
“So you betrayed me?” Lucius clenched his jaw, his gaze burning a hole through him. “I hate it when someone has leverage over me. If something happens to me, none of you will get away unscathed. Think, or you’ll have to face the consequences!”
The minister was alarmed.
He knew that it wasn’t possible to get out after he started working with him, and he would never be able to stay out of it.
“I… I know what I should do.”
“Good.” Lucius patted his cheek. “We’re all in this together. Don’t worry. If you take the fall for this, I’ll find a way to get you out of it.”

However, before this ended, the hacker got into the security system of the cabinet and caused a system failure. ‘You Are Next‘ was shown on their website.
The mysterious hacker put everyone on high alert, and soon, news that the cabinet members were working with the police got out.
They thought throwing one person under the bus would be good enough, but the hacker exposed another cabinet member two days later.
It seemed to be targeted at the cabinet, but it was actually exposing the dealings between ministers and the Taylors.
On the cruise, in the room…
Colton closed his laptop and looked toward Nollace. “Are you sure this will hurt that old man?”
Nollace stared at his screen as his fingers jumped between keys on the keyboard. “If it doesn’t, the ministers will take the fall for him. Everyone else will soon become pawns that he abandoned. We need to create more noise and give them pressure. If we make them panic, they’ll start fighting back.”
Colton got up and walked to the window. “I guess that old man really is something.”
Nollace looked up with calm eyes. “Even the hardest bones can crack.”
After continuous attacks, the ministers were half–defeated. Even when they paid obscene sums to hire hackers, they weren’t able to get into Nollace and Colton’s system.
They didn’t dare report this to the police and the royals, so they had to endure it silently.
Lucius was in the study for a few days. When the butler went in, he looked tired and worn out.
“Sir, you need to eat something.”
Lucius rubbed his forehead. “Leave it.”
The butler placed the food down on the table and left but bumped into Bianca in the hallway.
She asked, “How is he?”
The butler shook his head. “I’m sorry, ma’am. He doesn’t seem to have an appetite.”
Bianca looked worried. She knew what her husband had done. She knew everything, but she couldn’t say anything about it.
Now that the hacker had exposed them, it was obvious that they were coming for the Taylors.
Meanwhile, Cecilia continued to spend lots of money shopping and having meals with her socialite friends.
While they were having a good laugh, a woman suddenly showed up. “Cecelia!”
Cecelia was shocked because the woman was the daughter of the Home Minister.
Before anyone could react, the woman slapped Cecelia with fire in her eyes. “This is obviously your father’s fault. What does it have to do with my dad? Why did he have to take the fall for him?”
Cecelia held her cheek, looking surprised.
Everyone tried to persuade her, but the woman pushed them away and pointed at Cecelia. “If anything happens to my father, I won’t forgive you Taylors!”
She left furiously.
That was when Cecelia’s friends saw the news and found out that the Home Minister was exposed for money laundering with Lucious and was detained for that.
They looked at Cecelia and didn’t seem to want to be dragged into this, so they made up excuses and left. Cecelia froze and looked terrible.

After a while, Cecelia ignored the pain on her face and called her mother. “Mom, what happened? Did something happen to Dad?”
Bianca didn’t know what to do but still ended up telling her daughter.
When Cecelia found out the truth, fear flashed across her eyes. If her father had really done all those things, their family would be… No, that couldn’t happen!
The status and power of the Taylors were all she had! What would happen to her if she lost all that?
She couldn’t lose everything that she had. She just couldn’t!
Meanwhile, Nollace visited Edison with Daisie.
Edison was showing no signs of waking up. The doctor said that he was too badly injured and waking up was up to luck.
Daisie turned to look at Nollace, who looked gloomy, and grabbed his hand. “Don’t worry. He’ll wake up.” Nollace looked down, and his lips moved. “If it wasn’t because I was too confident that he’d be fine and overlooked the possibility that he would be attacked, he wouldn’t have gotten injured.”
Edison had been attacked because he was too confident in himself.
He had fallen into their trap when he was trying to trap them.
He shouldn’t have underestimated the butler and forgotten that the person was working for the Taylors. The people that Lucius worked with would be just as cunning. Benefits were very important to him, so he wouldn’t allow anyone to ruin his plan.
If he could let the Home Minister take the fall for him, he would easily have sacrificed the butler.
When the butler was under his control, he would do his best to protect him and, at the same time, save himself.
That was why he had to tie up loose ends.

Yorrick led the police to the Taylor manor.
Lucius calmly drank his tea in the living room and looked at them. “What is the meaning of this?”
Yorrick smiled. “All these exposés seem to link back to you. It’s Her Majesty’s wish that you come with me to the police station to answer some questions.”
He scoffed. “You’re going to believe that hacker’s posts online?”
“There must be a reason this is happening. If this is unrelated to you, I’m sure you won’t mind coming with
us.”
Lucius‘ face dropped.
“Dad!”
Cecelia rushed downstairs and saw Yorrick and some officers in the living room. Her expression changed. “My dad is innocent. You have no evidence to take him away!”

Yorrick looked at her and said impassively, “Do you want to go against the Queen’s order? Or are you implying that the Taylors are so powerful that you can even ignore the royal family?”
“You-”
“Cecelia.” Lucius rose up to his feet slowly and looked menacingly at Yorrick. “I’ve nothing to fear. I can go with you, but if I’m innocent, I won’t let anyone of you get away with it.”
Yorrick smiled and moved to the side. “Please come with us.”
Lucius flung his hand and left the living room, followed by the police.
Cecelia dropped to the couch when her father was taken away, looking just like a wilted rose.
Her father would never do something like that. He must have been set up.
Suddenly, a person’s face appeared in her head.
‘It must be him! Nollace!‘
At Blue Valley Manor…
When Nollace and Daisie came down from the car, Cecelia’s voice boomed out. “Nollace!”
Both of them turned their heads around to see that Cecelia was charging toward them. However, their bodyguards stopped her, and she shouted, “It’s you, right!? You’re the one who set up my father, right? You want to get back at me, so you sent my father to jail! How could you do this to us!?”
Nollace squinted and said calmly, “Get back at you? You’ve overestimated yourself, Ms. Taylor.”
“Really?” She scoffed coldly, “You forced the medicine down my throat, and now I can never have any children anymore. You told us that she lost her baby, but the truth is that she has not!
“Nollace, this has been your plan all along! Believe it or not, I will tear open your true face and expose ail the things you have done to me!”
Nollace said expressionlessly, “Sure, go ahead. As for those deals your father made behind everyone’s backs, no one will sympathize with you, even if you fall from grace.”
Cecelia gnashed her teeth. “Finally! You’ve admitted that you’re the one who did it!”
“Yeah, it’s me. So?”
Nollace lifted his eyelids and continued nonchalantly. “I gave you guys a chance before, but you didn’t cherish it. Since my grandfather failed to get rid of you Taylors, I’ll help him finish what he couldn’t. Don’t blame anyone else, Ms. Taylor. If you want to blame, blame yourself for being too arrogant.”
“Are you not afraid of retribution!?”
“Retribution?” Nollace chuckled. “Are you talking about you and your family?”
Cecelia’s face turned pale.
‘Why? I just want to be the princess. I just want that b*tch to lose her baby. But she didn’t lose her baby in the end, so why must he do this to my family and destroy everything I have now? I won’t let him get what
he wants!‘
“Nollace, if anything happens to my father, I’ll drag all of you down to hell with me!”

Nollace came to the room that detained the Home Minister. The middle–aged man inside looked haggard. Apparently, losing his freedom was not a pleasant experience.

“Are you sure you want to take all the blame, sir?”
He gnashed his teeth and said, “I don’t understand what you are talking about, Your Highness.”
“It’s okay. After all…” Nollace leaned on the door. “None of you are getting away with it.”
The Home Minister was stunned again, but he did not say anything.
“I heard that you love your daughter very much, right?”
His expression changed, and he said, “This has nothing to do with my daughter. I hope you won’t get an innocent person into this, Your Highness.”
“If your daughter is innocent, then what about other people?”
Nollace turned around to look at him, and his face was bereft of emotion. “As far as I know, you guys have cheated a lot of innocent businessmen into investment scams. They trusted you guys, but you took advantage of their trust and scammed all their money. Some of them even went bankrupt because of you.”
The Home Minister pressed his lips firmly and clenched his fists tightly.
Nollace chuckled. “Of course, they’re the ones who willingly jumped into the trap. After all, everyone would have pushed their luck if there was an opportunity to earn a fortune before them.
“However, even if they’re greedy, people like you who set up the trap for them and treat them like sheep waiting to be slaughtered are not innocent either. The Home Minister raised his head and looked at Nollace. “I’m guilty. I’m the one who did it. Since I’m already here, I’ll accept whatever the result is.”
In other words, he was telling Nollace that he would not sell Lucius out no matter what he asked. Nollace nodded. “Okay. But I’m afraid your wife and daughter won’t be able to sustain their life after you’re sent to prison.”
“Your Highness!” The Home Minister shouted, “I told you that they have nothing to do with this!”
“It doesn’t matter. What matters the most is whether you really think your family won’t be affected if you become the scapegoat.” Nollace said, “Or do you think Lucius will treat your family like you did or save you from prison?”
The Home Minister was stunned.
Nollace looked at him and continued. “Do you have any idea what your family will have to go through while you’re serving your sentence in prison? Besides, this recording belongs to you. You’ve disrupted all his plans and led the police to him. Do you really think he’ll let you off the hook if you take the blame for him?”
The Home Minister pressed his lips thin and cold beads of sweat dripped down his forehead.
“Do you know that a female inmate was killed in prison? Are you sure that you won’t end up like her? Sir, think carefully. When a boat is capsized, only one can live while others need to die, including you.” Nollace looked at him one last time before leaving without turning his head back.

Meanwhile, in the Home Minister’s house…
Since her husband was being investigated and there was a chance that he might serve time in prison, his wife bought tickets to Florinia and planned to take her daughter out of the country to escape the storm.
When they finished packing up and went out of the door, a few cars stopped in front of their house, and their faces turned pale.
A few bodyguards got out of the cars and said, “Ma’am, I’m sorry. But I’m afraid you can’t leave now.”
Inside the car, Nollace received a call from the bodyguards, and a smile appeared at the corner of his lips. “Well done. Now it’s time for us to fight back.”
He ended the call, and the bodyguard in the passenger seat answered a call. He smiled and said, “Sir, Edison has woken up!”
“Go to the hospital.”
They turned their car and headed to the hospital.
Edison had just returned to his senses and was very weak now.
Nollace entered the ward and heaved a sigh of relief when he saw Edison finally come to his senses.” How do you feel now?”
Edison forced a smile on his face and said, “I’m fine. I guess I’m pretty lucky that I’m still alive.”
Nollace placed his hand on his shoulder and said, “I’ll help you to get your revenge.”
“I’m willing to do anything for you, even if it means death, Your Highness,” said Edison. Suddenly, he remembered something and said, “Oh yeah, I already know who Bart’s brother is. He’s the Taylors‘ butler.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Edison raised his arm. “His photo is in my pocket.”
Edison took his jacket and pulled an old photo out of his pocket. There were two guys in the photo, and one of them did resemble the Taylors‘ butler when he was younger.
Nollace looked at him and said, “Thank you for your hard work, Edison.”
“It’s fine. At least we have made some progress.”
Nollace patted his shoulder. “Get some rest.”

He took the photo and exited the ward. While he was walking, he ordered his bodyguard, “Send more people to check the Taylors‘ butler. I want to know everything about him, including all the monetary transactions.”
Since those people were hired, there ought to be some monetary transactions.
Since it was confirmed that he was Bart’s brother, everything would be easier.
Mia took a day off from Daisie and told her that she wanted to take care of her brother, who had just regained his eyesight, in the hospital.
She waved at Daisie while smiling when she went out of the door. “I’ll come back tomorrow, ma’am.” Daisie asked, “Do you need me to get someone to send you there?”
“It’s okay. I can go there myself.”
Since she insisted, Daisie could only go along with her.
Mia left the manor with her bag on her back and in high spirits.
When she was walking toward the road, someone suddenly appeared behind her and grabbed her mouth before dragging her into a van.
Inside a dilapidated house in an isolated forest…
Mia slowly woke up and saw the two Mastiffs in a large metal cage in front of her and shrank back in fear.
“Yo, you’re finally awake.”
Mia raised her head in shock and saw Cecelia come out of the dark with three other men.
The two Mastiffs locked in the cage constantly rammed into the cage, baring their teeth and howling. Their drool kept dripping down to the ground, and they looked fierce.
Mia recognized her. “It’s you?”
Cecelia stopped beside the cage and looked at the two Mastiffs in the cage. She patted the cage and said, “These two creatures have been starving for two days. We didn’t feed them anything, so they’re very hungry right now.”
Mia’s face turned pale, and she shuddered. “What do you want from me?”

Cecelia grinned coldly, and there was a manic glint in her eyes. “You work for Daisie, right? It seems to me that she cares a lot about you. I wonder if she will still care about you now or not.”
Mia instantly understood what Cecelia was trying to do. Her brain went blank, and her heart was clutched by fear.
Meanwhile, Daisie was resting on the bed when her phone rang.
She took her phone and answered it when she saw it was Mia. “Yes, Mia?”
“I’m not Mia. You didn’t think I’d have her, right?”
Daisie’s pupils constricted. The voice did not belong to Mia, but it sounded familiar. “You… You’re Cecelia?”
“Yes, it’s me. I told you that I’d make you all regret it. So listen up, Daisie. Your maid is in my hands now. If you don’t want her to die, then come to me.”
“Daisie, don’t listen to her! Mmmhm!”
Daisie clutched tightly to the phone when she heard Mia’s voice. She bit her lips and said, “Cecelia, this is between you and me. You don’t have to drag an innocent person into it. Release her now, or-”
Before Daisie could finish her sentence, Cecelia hung up the call.
Daisie hastily got out of bed, grabbed a jacket, and went out of the room to call the butler.
Her butler came upstairs and asked, “Ma’am?”
She grabbed the butler’s hand and said, “Cecelia has Mia now. She refuses to release her. Mia is in danger now!”
The butler was stunned for a moment, but he soon calmed down and said sternly. “Ma’am, please calm
down.”
Daisie could not calm down right now. “We’ve got to save her! We need to save her!”
The butler grabbed her and said in a serious voice, “Don’t worry, ma’am. We’ll definitely save Mia.”
He told the other maids to bring Daisie back to her room. After that, he made a call to Nollace and told him what had happened.
Nollace hurriedly came back to the villa and entered the room. “Daisie…”
Daisie was sitting on the couch dejectedly. Her eyes were red, and it seemed like she had just cried. ” What should I do, Nolly? This is all my fault…”
Nollace went up to her, squatted in front of her, and grabbed her into his arms. “Don’t worry. I promise I’ll save Mia, alright?”
Daisie grabbed his arms and said, “Bring me with you. I’m her target. If she doesn’t see me, she might harm Mia!”
Noliace’s face was dark and filled with anger.
He was not angry with Daisie but with Cecelia.

Nollace took a deep breath and grabbed Daisie’s shoulder, “Daisie, listen to me. If something happens and I need to make a decision between you, your babies, and Mia…”

No one could ensure anyone’s safety in front of an unknown danger. Besides, Daisie was pregnant, and the risk increased exponentially.

“Nolly, promise me to be safe.” Dalsie caressed his cheek. “Promise me.”
After a long while of silence, Nollace grabbed her hand and said in a hoarse voice, “Okay. I promise you.”
Daisie hugged him and said, “I promise you too.”
Cecelia was sitting on a chair, playing with her phone. Soon, she received a call from Daisie. She put it on the loudspeaker and said, “So, have you made up your mind?”
Daisie said, “Yes, I’ve already made up my mind. Didn’t you want me there? I accept your challenge.”
Mia’s mouth had been duct taped. She could not shake her head while whimpering.
Cecelia laughed. “Are you coming alone, or are you bringing people with you? But it’s okay if you bring someone with you. I’ll just…”
She put the phone near the cage, and Daisie could hear clearly the barking and roaring of the dogs. “I’ll lock her up with the Mastiffs. They’ve not been eating anything for a few days, and they’ll eat anything in their sight, including humans. You may need to help her collect her corpse at that time.”
Daisie took a deep breath and said, “Cecelia, I won’t bring anyone with me. But if you dare to harm Mia, I’ll make you regret it for the rest of your life!”
Cecelia let out a boisterous laugh and said, “I can’t believe that you still have the nerves to threaten me. Do you want me to lock her up in there now?”
“Go ahead. Once she’s dead, not only will I not come there, you’ll be over too. Since you dare to use her phone to call me, you should know that if she’s dead, I’ll call the police too, and our conversation will be my best evidence. Fifteen minutes later, a car slowly came to a stop outside of the house.
The three men guarding outside became alert and grabbed their guns.
Daisie got out of the car. The three men looked at each other and sent one over to check the car. After that, he shook his head as a sign that no one was in the car.
She smiled and shrugged. “See? I told you I’d come alone.”
The man confirmed that she was alone and took her into the house. However, other than the large metal cage holding the two vicious Mastiffs, there was no sign of Mia or Cecelia.
She looked around and frowned. “Where is Mia?”
The man studied her and grinned. “There’s no need to be so impatient. She’s safe now.”
The man wrapped his arm around her waist, and Daisie felt revolted. She pushed him away and shouted, Don’t touch me!”
“Hah! You sure are one little hot pepper. Ms. Taylor told us that she’d only release your companion after you’ve entertained us, understand?” The man approached Daisie, forcing her to the side of the cage.
