Chapter 2246
As soon as Robert hung up, Wren turned sharply to Elena.
“My brother just called. What was that about the grandsons getting into a fight?”
“A fight?” Elena’s chest tightened. “Jon and Elliot weren’t hurt, were they?”
“Your grandsons are perfectly fine,” Wren said. “Felix is the one who got hurt. From what I heard, Jon and Elliot got physical with him while helping some other classmates.”
He frowned. “You really need to talk to those boys. Even brothers should stand together when there’s trouble. How could they side with outsiders and go after their own cousin?”
That lit a spark of anger in Elena—but she kept it contained.
She let out a cold laugh. “Jon and Elliot are the most sensible, well-behaved kids there are. Why would they help outsiders bully their own family? Shouldn’t you be asking Robert what actually happened?”
“Felix grew up under the old man’s roof,” she continued. “He’s been spoiled rotten by him and his mother—arrogant and overbearing. If he got hit, he probably had it coming.”
She paused, her tone turning colder. “Good thing Jon and Elliot are fine. And you can tell your brother this—if anything had happened to my grandsons, I wouldn’t have let his grandson off so easily.”
With that, Elena stood and walked inside, unwilling to listen to another word.
Wren stood there, seething. He almost went after her, but stopped when he remembered Mr. Chandler’s land.
In the end, he pulled out his phone and called Cecilia instead.
At that moment, Cecilia was at work.
She had completely forgotten about picking up the kids the previous afternoon.
So when her father-in-law’s call came through, it caught her off guard.
Normally, Wren would call Nathaniel if something came up.
Why her today?
“Dad, is something wrong?” she asked as she answered.
Wren had always thought this daughter-in-law of his was sensible and easy to talk to—that was exactly why he’d called her.
“Ceci, I heard Jon, Elliot, and Felix had a bit of a conflict yesterday.”
Cecilia paused. “What conflict?”
She remembered seeing Felix and Miranda standing in front of her sons yesterday. Not long after, they had left—but she hadn’t known what happened before that.
Later, she had asked Jonathan, and he’d brushed it off as nothing.
Wren relayed what Robert had told him, carefully softening the details.
“Ceci, Felix may be spoiled, but he’s still their cousin. You should talk to Jon and Elliot. Don’t let them bully him over an outsider.”
The moment she heard that, Cecilia understood—the eldest branch was stirring trouble again.
She didn’t argue. Her voice stayed calm and steady.
“Dad, I’ll ask the boys what happened when I get home. If they really bullied Felix without reason, I’ll make them apologize. But if there’s more to the story, then it’ll be handled differently. You don’t need to worry.”
“I still have work to finish, so I’ll hang up now. Get some rest, Dad.”
She ended the call.
Cecilia didn’t think Wren was a bad person—he just couldn’t always tell who was truly on his side.
After hanging up, she immediately called the school and asked Daniel to put Jonathan on the phone.
As soon as Jonathan picked up, he told her everything.
Only then did she learn that Felix had been the one bullying Dante first. Jonathan had stepped in and kicked him to stop it.
“I see,” Cecilia said. “Helping someone who’s being bullied isn’t wrong. But next time, be more careful about how you handle it. Try talking first—you can’t just start kicking people.”
“Mm, Mommy, I understand. I won’t do it again,” Jonathan said, nodding.
He had expected Felix to run home and complain.
And, just as he thought—
He had.
