Chapter 2268
After saying that, Miranda walked over and yanked out the power cord.
The screen went black.
Only then did she head upstairs, leaving the father and son sitting there in silence.
Both of them were intimidated enough that neither dared turn the game back on.
“Felix, go talk to your mom. Calm her down,” Adrian said, sending his son upstairs.
Felix knew his mother favored him, so he wasn’t worried.
He got up and headed to her room.
Miranda had just been about to call someone when the door suddenly opened.
Startled, she quickly put her phone away.
She’d thought it was Adrian and was ready to snap—but when she saw Felix, she relaxed.
“Felix, why did you come up? Do you need something?” she asked, tightening her grip on her phone.
Felix walked over, putting on a sweet tone. “Mom, don’t be mad anymore, okay? I know I was wrong. I’ll study hard from now on and play less.”
He was just saying what she wanted to hear.
Miranda nodded. “Alright. I know. Mom’s not mad at you.”
When it came to her son, she gave in easily.
“Then I’ll go back downstairs.”
“Go ahead.” She waved him off.
As soon as Felix left, she hurriedly pulled out her phone and called the man.
The line connected quickly.
“What’s wrong? Why are you calling at this hour?” the man’s gentle voice came through.
The moment Miranda heard it, the tension in her body eased.
“I missed you. Is that not allowed?” she said, her tone soft and drawn out.
“Of course it is. But calling during the day—you need to be careful. Don’t let your husband find out,” the man said.
Miranda’s expression darkened.
“And so what if he does? Did you hear about what happened to my father-in-law this time?”
“You mean the land Geoff bought?” the man asked.
“That’s right. It was supposed to be developed—the value would’ve skyrocketed. But then it got canceled out of nowhere. My father-in-law was so sure we’d make a fortune. Now he’s become a joke in the industry.”
Miranda stepped out onto the balcony as she continued, “I don’t even know how much he lost. It was bad enough that he had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital. So I was thinking… maybe we should take this opportunity…”
She didn’t finish the sentence.
She didn’t need to.
The man on the other end fell silent.
After a long pause, he finally said, “It can be done. But be careful. Don’t get caught.”
“Don’t worry. I will.”
Miranda paused, then softened her voice again. “If this works, what kind of reward are you going to give me?”
The man chuckled quietly. “What kind of reward do you want?”
“I want you to decide.”
For once, her tone carried a girlish sweetness she rarely showed.
“Fine. As long as you pull it off, I’ll give you a big reward,” he said slowly.
Miranda’s eyes lit up.
“Deal. Don’t go back on your word.”
“When have I ever lied to you?”
“That’s true. Hahaha…”
Her laughter rang sharp and pleased.
Just then, the door opened again.
She immediately ended the call and looked up.
Adrian stood in the doorway.
“What are you laughing about? You seem pretty happy,” he said.
Miranda slipped her phone into her pocket.
“What else would I laugh about? I was talking about work. Were you expecting me to rely on you for anything?”
