Daniel lowered his eyes that were filled with worries. At this moment, it seemed that he did not dare to look at Ava at all. After staying silent for a few seconds, he parted his lips.

“It’s this Sunday.” Ava clenched her fists, but it seemed that she gradually calmed herself down. She smiled softly at Daniel.

Ava blinked curiously. She did not understand what Daniel meant by that. She did not ask him either. When she was about to continue eating, Daniel received a call. Ava did not know who was calling him, but she caught a glimpse of joy and excitement flashing past Daniel’s eyes.

After lunch, Daniel sent Ava back to her company and then he drove away quickly.

Ava stood at the entrance of her company. She kept feeling that the call just now was a little fishy.

After Daniel drove away, he drove straight to Whitman Corporation.

Madeline and Jeremy were having lunch in the office. They did not expect Daniel to arrive so soon.

“Eveline, you got it done so quickly?” Daniel asked with expectation and surprise in his eyes.

When Madeline saw Daniel’s look of happiness and longing, she knew Ava had not chosen the wrong person. She placed her fork down and walked to her desk. After she pulled out the drawer, she took out a purple velvet box.

“Dan, Ava’s happiness depends on you now. Please don’t ever let her down.” Madeline urged solemnly before handing the velvet box over.

“I won’t let her down,” Daniel promised.

“Don’t let down my wife’s efforts either.” When Jeremy said that, he glanced at the velvet box in Daniel’s hand.

Daniel understood what Jeremy meant. He smiled understandingly. “Even though this is a difficult obstacle, I believe I’ll be able to get through it. I’ll make Ava very happy.”

“That’s good.” Madeline smiled.

Daniel opened the velvet box excitedly. When he saw the item inside, his eyes lit up with surprise and delight once again. He put the item that was filled with Madeline’s blessing and effort away. After that, he chatted with Madeline and Jeremy for a while before going home.

However, Daniel walked to the living room calmly. “Why were you waiting for me?”

Naya smiled and walked toward Daniel. “Dan, we’re getting engaged this Sunday and everything’s a little rushed. Mom and Dad have prepared the things needed for the ceremony. However, there’s one thing that my mom and the rest of them hope I can buy with you.”

Daniel furrowed his good-looking eyebrows in curiosity. “What is it?”

“Your wedding rings, of course!” Daniel’s mother emphasized, “You should choose a pair of temporary rings. After this, I’ll ask someone to create the world’s best rings for you two.”

“Let’s ask Eveline Montgomery! She’s famous in this industry. The brand that she was a designer for back then had such exquisite collections!” Naya’s mother suggested.

When Daniel heard this, his grip on the velvet box tightened.

Meanwhile, Naya’s face was filled with excitement. “Dan, I heard Eveline was your classmate back in the days. She won’t say no if you ask her, right?”

“She’s not my classmate. She’s my junior.”

When she saw Daniel leaning against the chair calmly as he played with his phone, she had an apologetic look on her face.

“Dan, I’m so sorry. I want to choose a ring but women are very picky about the things they like. Even though the engagement is fake, I still want to choose a ring I like.”

Daniel put down the phone and lifted his eyes. He said that he understood. “It’s fine, you can continue browsing. Don’t mind the price. I’ll pay for it.”

“Thank you, Dan.” Naya was thrilled. Then, she looked melancholic. “If possible, I would like Eveline Montgomery to make a ring for me. I love all of the jewelry she’s designed.”

When Daniel heard this, he subconsciously touched his pocket.

“Doesn’t look like it.” Maisie smiled and blinked. “Ava, did you have a fight with your boyfriend?”

Ava turned her head with a smile upon hearing that. “When did you also become so nosy?”

“I’m not nosy. I’m just concerned about you.” Maisie emphasized with a serious look on her face.

When she heard this, Ava fell into silence.

Maisie was even more sure that something was wrong now. “Ava, you can tell me if there’s anything that’s making you unhappy. I see you as my good friend. You can share with me all of your problems.”

Ava felt her heart warm up when she heard what Ava said. She did not expect to meet a friend who genuinely cared about her. She smiled and then sighed silently.

During lunch, Ava told Maisie all of her troubles. After Maisie heard that, she was slightly stunned. Then, she asked in disbelief, “No way. Isn’t this something out of a TV show? I guess this happens in real life too.”

“I don’t want this to be real either, but they’re getting engaged the day after tomorrow.” Ava sighed after she said that. Then, she corrected herself, “Fake engaged.”

“Even if it’s fake, you must feel horrible, right?” Maisie has a distressed look on her face.

Ava did not deny it. “I don’t have a choice. I hope that Danny’s grandpa can be safe and healthy too. I don’t want the old man to be triggered by anything.”

Ava could feel Daniel’s love for her. She knew he must be feeling sorry because of what was going to happen the day after tomorrow. That was why he was here to accompany her.

Daniel’s eyes were full of apology, but Ava had no intention of blaming him at all.

Ava could not sleep on Saturday night no matter what. She closed her eyes and finally made it to Sunday. When the sky became bright, Ava got up from bed and ate something simple. After she put on some light makeup, she left the house.

She knew the fake engagement would be in a five-star hotel under Whitman Corporation. After Ava arrived, she saw the busy scene at the entrance of the hotel. Ava could not help but feel envious. As she looked at the figure who followed Naya into the hotel, Ava’s heart suddenly trembled inexplicably. She thought of how she had told Maisie about the fake engagement on Friday. Ava felt the need to tell Daniel the truth because she could not let him go ahead with the engagement ceremony with Naya. Otherwise, things would become very complicated if everything were to become official. After Daniel heard what Ava said, his heart started to thump enthusiastically.

He knew that although he had not been in love with Ava for a long time, he was convinced that Ava was the person he wanted to protect forever. That was why he thought now was a good time.

Daniel silently thought to himself and suddenly became a little nervous. He reached inside his jacket pocket because he wanted to take out the custom-made engagement ring that Madeline had designed for him to present to Ava, but when he felt around in his pocket and checked twice, he could not seem to find the velvet box.

Daniel thought it was strange, and Ava watched him curiously.

“Danny, what are you looking for?”

Daniel paused for a moment because it was supposed to be a surprise for Ava. Of course, he could not tell her what it was, so he had no choice but to make an excuse. “I’m looking for tissues. I think I probably forgot to bring them.”

“I have some here.” Ava smiled as she pulled out a piece of tissue from her bag and handed it to Daniel.

From afar, Naya had a sullen look on her face as she watched Daniel and Ava embracing each other. She was so angry that her chest felt tight and her stomach was full of unease. However, a wicked smile of triumph gradually crept onto her face.

Naya lowered her head slightly and raised her hand to look at the velvet box that was currently on her palm.

“It’s mine. It has always been mine. Even if it initially belonged to you, it’s in my hands now.” Naya smiled sinisterly and was about to walk away when Mrs. Graham walked over in the afterglow. Naya immediately hid the velvet box in her hand and quickly changed her expression to one of sadness. She even pretended to wipe a tear before turning around with a look of sadness.

When she turned around, she acted as though she had just seen Mrs. Graham.

“Mrs. Graham, why are you here?” Naya pretended to be surprised and inunediately went up to Mrs. Graham. “Come, let’s walk together, Mrs. Graham.”

“Naya, what are you doing here? Why are you crying?” Puzzled, Mrs. Graham walked closed to Naya and looked behind her.

“What did you see that made you so sad?”

“It… It’s nothing, Mrs. Graham! Let’s just go!” Naya stepped forward and took Mrs. Graham’s hand, pretending to pull her away.

This time, Mrs. Graham felt that Naya was acting even more peculiar, so that piqued her interest more. She wanted to see what was going on. She moved Naya away and immediately, she saw Daniel and Ava standing in the corridor. They were talking and laughing with each other sweetly. Immediately, Mrs. Graham’s anger rose.

“This is outrageous!” Mrs. Graham said angrily, “You and Daniel are about to get engaged! How dare she come over and confuse him?! Don’t worry, Naya. I’m about to go right up to her and tell her to get the hell out! Wait here.”

After Mrs. Graham finished speaking, she quickly walked toward Ava in a rage.

“Mrs. Graham, Mrs. Graham! Don’t go.” Naya pretended to stop her with a smirk.

When Daniel and Ava heard someone was coming, both of them looked in the direction of the sound. The moment Ava turned around, all she saw was a pale palm swinging toward her cheek before she could see who the person was.

However, Daniel reached out to hold his mother’s hand in time.

“Mom! What are you doing?!” Daniel questioned her sternly.

Mrs. Graham shook off Daniel’s hand angrily. “How dare you ask me what I’m doing?! I should be the one asking you what you’re doing, Daniel! Naya is your fiancée, the person who you’ll spend the rest of your life with! How can you treat Naya like that?! Kissing and hugging this woman here?! Do you have no shame or virtue?!”

Ava could not help feeling amused when she heard how righteous Mrs. Graham sounded.

‘You’re one to speak of shame or virtue! Where did you get the courage to criticize Daniel like that?!

‘The person who has no shame or virtue is you!’

“Daniel, come back with me right now. Naya’s father has returned, so you’re to go over immediately and hold the engagement ceremony with Naya,” Mrs. Graham commanded and glared at Ava again. “If you still have some sense in you, you’ll get the hell out right now. Otherwise, I’ll have security to come over and throw you out!”

Daniel was unhappy with his mother’s attitude.

“Watch yourself, Mom. Don’t you dare talk to Ava like that.”

“Daniel, why are you still defending her?! Are you hoping to see your grandfather get so angry during your engagement ceremony that he ends up in the emergency room?!” Mrs. Graham threatened Daniel with Old Master Graham in a timely manner.

Daniel could not continue what he wanted to say. He looked at Ava with apologetic eyes that were full of heartache. “Ava…”

“Go. I understand,” Ava said with a smile, but her expression soon turned indifferent.

“Hmph.” Mrs. Graham rolled her eyes toward Ava with disdain, pulled Daniel, and left.

Naya, who was still standing at the same spot, saw Daniel being pulled back by Mrs. Graham. She pretended to look innocent.

Daniel kept looking back at Ava, but in the end, he was helplessly pulled back to the engagement ceremony. He became the star of the show again.

Ava stood at the same spot for a while before finally making a decision. She heard the emcee’s voice coming from the banquet hall. They were about to officiate Naya and Daniel’s engagement ceremony.

Without waiting any longer, Ava stepped toward the banquet hall.

Maisie, who seemed to have come out of nowhere, started to follow behind Ava. She could see the determined look on Ava’s face, so she cheered her on, saying, “Don’t worry, Ava! I won’t let you fight alone! I’ve prepared a secret weapon for you that’ll help you slap the smug looks off these people!”
