Ava did not expect that she would meet such a sincere and good friend apart from Madeline. Although this whole thing was a sh*tshow, what Maisie said made her feel a lot better. It made her feel like she was not alone.

When Ava arrived at the banquet hall, the guests, family, and friends were in high spirits as the emcee was livening up the atmosphere. Everyone was looking forward to seeing Daniel and Naya exchanging their wedding rings, and of course, hugging and kissing each other.

Even so, Daniel had no intention of doing that during the ceremony. Besides, he remembered that Naya had not chosen a ring she liked yet, so they could skip that part.

However, something happened that Daniel did not expect. The bridesmaid that Naya had invited suddenly handed an exquisite velvet ring box to them. It was a familiar-looking one at that. While he was still stunned, the bridesmaid opened the velvet ring box. Underneath the dazzling lights, the diamond ring shone brightly inside the box.

Daniel could not believe his eyes and could not comprehend why that ring was there. Just when he was about to ask Naya, she let out a surprised gasp.

“This ring is beautiful, Daniel! Thank you for this surprise! I love it so much.” Naya radiated with happiness and joy.

Ava saw everything in the audience and felt as if her heartstrings were tugged. The ring really was beautiful. She could even see design elements that she liked in the ring. She could not help but felt her heart sink.

If the Grahams liked her, the woman standing in front of Daniel right now would have been her.

“Ava, why are you just standing there? Is it because you don’t know what to say? If you ‘re too embarrassed to interrupt them, I can help you stop them!” Maisie said, preparing to go forward.

Ava immediately pulled her back “Thanks, Maisie, but this is something that I have to do on my own.”

When Maisie how dignified Ava looked, like she was going to prove herself, Maisie felt more at ease.

It seemed that Naya had stolen Daniel‘s ring and handed it to one of her bridesmaids before instructing her to come up at this time because she wanted to leave Daniel with no choice.

Even though she waited, Daniel did not seem like he was going to give her the ring.

Naya started to get a little anxious. “Daniel…”

“Daniel, why are you just standing there? Naya’s waiting for you, and so is everyone else.” Mrs. Graham urged him.

However, Daniel’s face darkened. He did not want to embarrass Naya in front of everyone. After all, Naya was kind enough to agree to help him with the fake engagement, so he started to speak in a low voice.

Naya immediately understood what he meant and suddenly clenched her fists. Her eyes were filled with rage, but the next second, she looked at Mrs. Graham and her mother with a pitiful look.

When Mrs. Graham and Mrs. Mendez saw Daniel leaving Naya and walking toward Ava, both women became furious.

“Daniel, stop right there!”

Mrs. Graham suddenly shouted at Daniel to stop him without thinking about all the guests who were watching.

The guests at the scene were confused. ‘Isn’t this an engagement ceremony? Why did the lead character leave halfway through the ring exchange?’

“Daniel, where are you going? Your engagement ceremony with Naya hasn’t finished yet.” Mrs. Graham chased after Daniel to stop him before lowering her voice and giving him a serious reminder.

“I’ve done everything that I needed to do. Grandpa should be pleased enough. I really have something else I need to do. I have to go,” Daniel said politely as he gently pushed his mother’s hand away and started walking toward Ava again.

Mrs. Graham was furious and knew Daniel was doing all of this for Ava.

However, just as Mrs. Graham was about to go over to Ava to take out her anger, Mrs. Mendez suddenly brushed past her. Before anyone saw anything coming, Mrs. Mendez was in front of Ava with her hand raised. It was coming down on her cheek with a hard slap.

Slap!

Mrs. Mendez was heavy-handed, and Ava was caught off guard. Her cheek instantly felt like it was on fire as an obvious palm print started to appear on her pale face. When that happened, everyone in the banquet hall was stunned and became even more curious as to what had just happened.

“What are you doing?!” Daniel was furious and immediately pulled Ava into his arms because his heart ached. “Ava, are you okay? Let me see.”

When Maisie saw what happened, she also angrily rushed over and pointed at Mrs. Mendez to scold her, “Hey! Who do you think you are?! Why did you hit her?!”

Mrs. Mendez pointed at Ava pompously. “Because she’s a vixen!”

“What vixen?! Watch your language!” Maisie argued.

Daniel was even more furious and heartbroken. He had never been so furious. At that moment, his expression was cold as he ordered Mrs. Mendez, “Apologize to Ava at once!”

The woman was stunned for a while before she pushed her way through the crowd, trying to get to the front. There, she saw Ava, who was currently in Daniel’s arms. At that moment, Ava was being held tightly in Daniel’s arms. The woman could not see Ava’s expression clearly. She only saw Ava’s head lowered and her left hand covering her cheek Ava did not say a word.

The woman’s face fell, and she started to feel a little anxious. She was about to go up and ask what was going on when she heard Daniel’s angry voice.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Mendez was furiously defending her. “Why would Naya joke about such an important event like her own marriage? Obviously, it’s because of this vixen! I bet she couldn’t bear seeing Daniel and Naya get married, so she came here to make trouble! Can’t you all see it? It’s that simple!”

As Mrs. Mendez elaborated, she grew even more emotional. She pointed her finger at Ava, laughing with contempt.

Mrs. Mendez threatened Daniel with Old Master Graham again to remind Daniel to watch himself, but as soon as she said those words, she heard a cold snort from behind.

When Mrs. Mendez looked over, she saw that it came Maisie. She knew Maisie. Maisie Lowe came from a family as influential as the Mendez family. However, since Mrs. Mendez did not want to offend the Lowe family, she ignored Maisie’ s snort.

Everyone could clearly hear that it was Mrs. Mendez and Mrs. Graham secretly rejoicing because they could use the excuse of Old Master Graham being sick, which was not even true, to force Daniel into marrying Naya.

In fact, all of them knew that Old Master Graham was never sick and that the fake engagement was something that both of them came up with. Only Daniel was kept in the dark by it.

When she played the recording to everyone, the crowd was stunned, while Mrs. Graham’s face flushed with shock.

“Daniel, this is outrageous! How could you propose to this vixen in a situation like this? What about Naya?! Have you ever considered her feelings?! She’s the one who’s supposed to be your bride!”

After listening to Mrs. Mendez’s scolding, Daniel shrugged off her tight grip unhappily.

”It’s time for you to stop.” His tone was cold, and his eyes looked stern. “Are you seriously still trying to keep up the Charade at this point? Do you think I’m a fool? Or do you think that all the guests here are fools?”

When Ava saw the woman being insulted by Mrs. Mendez, she felt uncomfortable and was thinking of settling the matter herself when Mr. Mendez rushed over to stop Mrs. Mendez from attacking the woman again.

Daniel did not expect to meet Ava’s mother on an occasion like this. At that moment, the joy he felt was not from finding out Ava’s status but from the fact that his future mother-in-law approved of their relationship.

“How can you still be doubting it? That was Raegan Xander, a very capable and powerful woman. She’s someone who has been featured many times before in financial papers.” Mr. Graham complimented Raegan, confirming the status of Ava’s mother.

When Mrs. Graham heard what he said, she looked even more pleased. “If that’s true, that‘s wonderful news!”

Mr. Graham laughed in disbelief. “You used to hate Ava but now you’re switching your narrative. Aren’t you afraid that the Mendez family will call you an opportunistic parasite?”

“Why should I be afraid of the Mendez family? I mean, you saw what happened. Daniel has no interest in Naya at all even though I’ve been kind enough to give Naya chances throughout the years.”

Mrs. Graham was completely nonchalant when she turned around to see Old Master Graham sitting on the sofa with a solemn expression. He did not say a word.

“Dad, you didn’t think Ava was good enough for Daniel last time but look, now we know that her mother is the richest person in Y Country. She’s worthy of Daniel now.”

“Hmph…” Old Master Graham suddenly let out a muffled snort. “I’ll never allow her to join our family even if she’s worthy!”

Mrs. Graham and Mr. Graham did not understand why Old Master Graham was insisting on that. “Dad, why is that?”

“You’re asking why?” Old Master Graham was furious. I was just embarrassed at the hotel just now. Now, everyone will know me as the old man who conspired with everyone to force my grandson to marry the Mendez family’s daughter. I won’t be able to recover from this event ever again!”

“Ava, I just read about what happened in the hotel in an article online. Are you okay?” Madeline was worried that Ava would be emotionally drained from all of that. She was worried as she did not know that Daniel and Naya actually went through with the fake engagement. She clearly remembered Ava telling her that they were not going to go through with it.

It was just that she did not expect Old Master Graham to fake his illness and that everyone was in on it.

“I know, it’s you, Maddie,” Ava replied without thinking, only to hear Madeline saying that was not what she meant.

“I was talking about your mother.”

Ava fell silent when Madeline said that.

“Ava, I know I wasn’t there at the scene, but I think your mother really wants to make it up to you and regrets what she did when she left you behind last time.”

Madeline patiently persuaded Ava.
