Ch. 1251..1255

Chapter 1251 Odell came out with Flint and Liam, and he saw Sylvia looking at him helplessly. He stroked her head and then said to Sebastian, “Sebastian, go check on him.”

Sebastian nodded and went over to John. A few moments later, Sebastian said, “Master John doesn't seem to be in good shape. He‘s already unconscious.” “Bring him inside. And call Dr. Lambert to check on him.”

“Yes, sir.”

Odell then held Sylvia‘s hand and returned to the living room. John was brought inside and placed on the bed by the living room.

Dr. Lambert arrived after a while and did a quick check on John. “His body is weak, probably due to lack of rest, and he has been skipping meals. He'll get better. Just let him rest and give him something to eat.”

Odell nodded and saw Dr. Lambert off. Sylvia frowned as she stared at the unconscious John with his pallor. “Has he not been eating after what happened to Sherry?”

“Maybe,” Odell said. “Then, what should we do? Are we going to let him stay?” Sylvia turned to her husband, seeking his opinion.

“We can't just throw him on the streets, can we?” Odell smiled and stroked her face. “Let's feed the kids first. Let him rest, and we'll see what we can do after he wakes up.”

“Okay.” Sylvia and Odell went out and closed the door, leaving the room in total silence.

The man lying on the bed feebly suddenly opened his eyes.

Some time later, the door opened. He immediately closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep.

The person came in quietly and swiftly arrived beside the bed.

John slowed down his breathing, but he then felt the touch of a tiny hand, followed by the fresh scent of a baby.

Odell and Sylvia's baby must have climbed onto him.

The body made its way onto John‘s chest, sat on him, and extended both his legs, hitting his chin. “Bro... Bro...” the baby murmured. Achild‘s voice with an unusual sense of maturity instructed, “Kick him.”

Flint immediately kicked the chin rapidly upon receiving the order. The little guy was merciless and relentless with his kicks. The kicks even hit John’s throat, causing him to cough and forcing him to open his eyes.

He quickly grabbed Flint's legs and stopped the boy from kicking further. Confused, he turned to Liam who was beside the bed. “Liam? Where am |? Why are you here?”

Liam widened his eyes at him. “This is my house. You fainted. Daddy brought you in.” John curled his lips and said feebly, “Thank your Daddy for me.”

Liam furrowed his brows as he could not capture any unusual reaction on John‘s face, hence the silent reply. Flint chirped, “Bell— come (Welcome)”

Chapter 1252 John stared at Flint's chubby cheeks for a moment before he hugged the boy into his arms. He asked Liam, “Where are your parents?”

Liam said, “They are eating outside , so they told me to come to check on you and ask if you want something to eat once you wake up.”. “I'm so sorry to trouble you guys.” With a smile, John got out of bed and carried Flint out of the room.

Liam suspiciously stared at him as he followed him outside. The three of them soon arrived in the living room.

Both Odell and Sylvia were sitting by the dining table.

“Master Carter, Mrs. Carter, you can just send anyone to wake me up instead of troubling the two little adorable boys,” John said weakly as he carried Flint over to them.

Sylvia frowned. Odell curled his lips. “I'm afraid no one else has the guts to wake you up.”

John's expression froze for a moment, but he quickly concealed it with a chuckle. “Master Carter, you're too serious. | passed out, I’m not dead. Anyone could have

woken me up.”

He sat down with Flint in his arms.

Sylvia‘s brows remained furrowed. She told Aunt Tonya,” Aunt Tonya, it's time for Flint to have his milk.” Aunt Tonya tacitly nodded and immediately took Flint from John.

Sylvia then looked at Liam. “Liam, go back to your room and do your homework.” Liam nodded and hummed a reply before heading up with Aunt Tonya. Only Odell, Sylvia, and John remained at the table.

John looked around. “I didn't see Isabel anywhere. Where's she?”

Sylvia‘s eyes flickered. Odell casually and confidently answered, “She's at one of our relative's houses.” “Oh? Which relative?” John asked with a smile. Sylvia's expression turned cold. “Master Stockton , are you trying to pry into our connections?”

John chuckled. “Mrs. Carter, please. | heard yours and Master Carter‘s mothers are no longer with us, and you don't seem to maintain a good relationship with your own family, so | was just curious where Isabel would be at this hour while neither of you is worried.”

John's intention was not to pry on Odell and Sylvia by saying out loud that they did not have any close relatives or that they could be so relaxed about Isabel being out this late. Instead, he actually suspected them.

Sylvia‘s expression changed. “It's none of your business where we send Isabel.” “Of course, it has nothing to do with me. I'm just asking out of curiosity. Please don't take it the wrong way, Mrs. Carter.” Sylvia ignored his answer.

Odell then said, “It seems like you know a great deal about my family, Master Stockton.” John picked up the fork to spear a piece of meat with a smile. “I presume you know a lot about my family as well, am | right?”

Odell tightened his lips. “Ms. Fowler isn‘t here.”

John's gaze shifted. He stared at the two of them coldly.“ Where is she?”

“| can't tell you that.” The living room suddenly went quiet.

It took a while before John smiled at the couple. Compared to his previous pretentious smile , he looked more sincere and wholehearted this time.

“Is she okay?” he asked.

Sylvia answered, “We don't know.”

John then cast his anticipation at Odell.

Odell glanced at Sylvia and noticed her frosty glare. He then said to John, “Well, if you must know, she's still alive.” John chuckled. “That sounds great.”

He dug into the food. He ate nonchalantly and casually as if he was eating at his own house. As Sylvia watched him coldly.

Chapter 1253 Odell leaned on the chair with his hands crossed and watched John eat casually.

Some time later, John finally put his cutlery down after he cleaned the plate. He wiped his mouth elegantly with the serviette and smiled at the couple. “Thank you for your hospitality, Master Carter and Mrs. Carter.”

“Then, can you please leave already?” Sylvia said.

John smiled. “I think my head is still spinning. | might have to bother you two for another night.” Sylvia sulked. She had never seen someone who could conceal his lies with such elegance and nonchalance even though others knew that he was lying. No wonder Sherry always called him a bastard.

While she was thinking about another way to chase the man out of the house, Odell held her hand. He smiled at John and said, “Since you are feeling unwell, please stay for another night. I'll send someone to escort you back to Glenchester when you feel better tomorrow.”

John maintained his elegant smile. “Thank you.”

Odell then went upstairs with Sylvia whereas John went back to the guest room.

In the stillness of the night, John was unable to sleep. With the windows open, he leaned back on the bed and stared outside. Awhile later, his phone rang.

“Any updates?” His assistant, Peter, answered meekly, “Sir, we've utilized everything we could and we only found out the location of that car that transported Ms. Fowler away. But when we got to the car, it was already abandoned. The vehicle was a rental car from a second-hand dealer, and we are still identifying the person who rented the car.

“Plus, when the car was returned to the dealer, it was cleaned thoroughly with alcohol. No blood or traces were left. Based on our speculation, they must have sent Ms. Fowler to the hospital right after they arrived in Westchester . We checked the lists of deceased at every hospital in Westchester but did not spot Ms. Fowler's name. She's still alive.”

John simply hummed a reply. He knew Sherry was alive, just like Odell said. If something terrible had happened to her, Sylvia would not have just asked him to leave with such subtle hostility.

A few seconds of silence later, he asked, “Did you find out where Isabel is? Odell’s daughter.” “No, sir. We haven't got anything on that.”

“Keep searching. Call me if anything happens.”

“Yes, sir.”

The call ended. As he put the phone away, his eyes continued to stare outside the window. Meanwhile, Odell and Sylvia were in their room.

Odell was showering in the bathroom, and Sylvia was on the line with Sherry on the bed. She told Sherry about John insisting on staying for the night by pretending to be sick.

Sherry must be left speechless about the bastard's shamelessness. It took her a while to say, “Syl, just kick him out if he refuses to leave tomorrow! You don't need to be courteous with him.”

Sylvia smiled. “Okay. What about Isabel? Is she giving you a hard time?”

“No, no, my baby Isabel is the most adorable treasure in the world. She's been stuck with me the whole time.”

“Good to know. It's getting late. You'd better get some rest. When John leaves tomorrow, I'll go get you.” “Okay.”

The call then ended.

Sylvia put the phone down and turned around to the

towering figure at the bathroom door. The man had finished showering and was staring at her with a mischievous grin and deep gaze. Baffled by his reaction, she asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

He smiled softly. “Because | want to.” Sylvia blushed. She closed her eyes and said, “It's late. Go to sleep.” Odell crawled into bed and hugged her from behind.

Just when Sylvia thought he was going to sleep without asking anything else, his lips moved closer to her ears and whispered, “You looked adorable when you were angry just now.”

Chapter 1254 Sylvia felt chills travel down her spine. She turned around to Odell. “What did you say? | dare you to say it again.” Odell pinched her face and kissed her lips. He whispered,“ You looked really cute when you tried to lecture John.”

Sylvia was rendered speechless, but it put a smile on her face. She grunted and buried her face in his chest. “What if he insists on staying here tomorrow?”

Would they have to ask John to leave again? Odell hugged her waist. “He will leave tomorrow.”

Baffled, she asked, “Why are you so sure?”

“Because Sherry isn't here, and there's no point of him being here.” “I guess you're right,” Sylvia said. She shut her eyes and continued , “Let's get some sleep. | want to visit Sherry tomorrow.”

“You can't go to Sherry tomorrow.”

“Why not?”

Odell looked at her. “If you go to visit Sherry at the hospital tomorrow, John‘s men will locate her.” Sylvia frowned. “Then, what about her?”

“Let's just leave Isabel with her for a few days. In the meantime, I'll remove John’s men that he assigned to watch us, then you can go find her.”

“Alright.” Back at the hospital, after Sherry hung up with Sylvia, she leaned back and stared into nothingness.

Isabel was sound asleep beside her. Her chubby face looked extra endearing when she was asleep. Sherry could not sleep, so she mischievously pinched the girl's cheek. Fortunately, the girl was fast asleep, so she could not even feel the pinch on her face.

Sherry retracted her hand after a few pinches.

Isabel was Sylvia and Odell's precious daughter whom they sent to accompany her. If she left a mark on the girl's face, Odell would make sure that she stayed in the hospital for good. She smiled and picked up her phone to read some news. Flooding her mind with boring articles might just help her to get some sleep.

The moment she tapped on the news app, the headline of the top article caught her eye.

“The wife of Glenchester's richest man arrested for contracted murder.”

She tapped on the article out of curiosity.

The article had been released by a media company focusing on gossip and scandals. The content was brief, and two lines in the

article caught Sherry’s attention :” The wife of the richest man in Glenchester was arrested at home this morning. According to reliable sources, she has been apprehended for contracted murder.”

It caught the attention of the netizens, and the post dominated the popularity ranking shortly after it was released. The post was also bombarded by comments from all over the country, several of which stood out.

“| think this article is the real deal. | have a relative who works in the Stocktons’ residence, and | just called her. She confirmed that the lady was arrested.”

The particular comment started a chain reaction. Everyone speculated about who Shannon tried to kill and why. However, the original poster did not respond to a single comment. Soon, Sherry scrolled down to another comment with a picture attached.

“Someone took this picture in front of the police station. Those two in the picture are the parents of the lady who just got arrested. | wonder if it's real.” Sherry squinted and tapped on the picture to enlarge it. The expanded picture filled her screen and revealed

Matthew and Janine. It seemed like they were trying to get into the station but were stopped by the police officers.

Chapter 1255 Matthew looked furious while Janine‘s eyes were red and swollen from all the crying. Her usual elegance and dignified posture of a rich lady were nowhere to be seen; all anyone could see was a mother sobbing to see her daughter.

Sherry unconsciously tightened her lips. She had disappeared for more than 24 hours, and no one knew if she was alive or dead, yet her parents only cared about Shannon who had been arrested for contracted murder and even caused a scene in front of the station.

Sherry tapped the cross to close the picture. She then scrolled down for more comments. “Based on their outfits, they don't seem like any John and Jane Doe. They must be the parents of the arrested

lady.”

“| pity them as parents. | wonder why the lady would want to kill someone instead of enjoying her life as the wife of the richest man. Could it be related to the husband himself?”

The particular comment attracted heat from other netizens, all wanting to defend John’s reputation and status. Most of them were local Glenchesterians, and some of them even listed John‘s contributions to the city.

The original poster was forced to apologize for the comment.

In the end, someone came up with a conclusion. “If it really is related to the richest man in the city, he would have been caught as well. If the man uses his wealth and resources to keep things down, we wouldn't be seeing this article either, so let's just wait for the official statement from the police department.”

Coincidentally, right after Sherry went through all the comments, the Glenchester Police Department released an official statement regarding the arrest.

The statement attracted a lot of netizens, including Sherry herself.

The statement was long and detailed. It explained how they had received a call from the Stocktons’ residence and investigated the case based on the clues given. It was just that morning when they determined that Shannon was the culprit and arrested her at home.

However, the statement did not mention that Shannon‘s target was Sherry.

The mention of the Stocktons in the statement also sparked a heated discussion.

“Oh my goodness. Could the husband have turned his wife in himself?”

The particular comment swiftly gathered attention and

similar opinions.

“So, who is the lady trying to kill? Could the man not have known and called the police?” More and more comments flooded the comment sections.

It was then that the police department's public relations officer emerged and answered the people‘s questions.” This involves the privacy of the family, so we cannot reveal it to the public.”

The netizens swiftly understood what happened.

“So, it all started because of some family conflict?”

“| heard the couple only got married like two months ago, and now this has happened.”

“The lady is really ruthless. What could have led her to hire a killer?”

“She could've enjoyed being the richest man‘s wife, but she just had to get herself involved in murder. | guess that's the end of her life.”

Sherry emotionlessly went through all the comments. Ding!

She suddenly received an email on her phone.

After getting the phone from Sylvia, she did not download any social media apps on the phone in order to

prevent John from knowing that she was alive. She only logged in to her email so that her contacts could contact her just in an emergency. Who could have emailed her at this hour?

She tapped on the email and saw the sender‘s name highlighted in bold—John Stockton. Her expression went cold. The mail contained the message he wanted to convey.

“Sherry, did you read the news? She‘s been caught, and I've gotten the best lawyer to make sure she stays behind bars for the rest of her life. If you come back to me now, I'll forgive you for what you did to me six years ago.”

Sherry‘s hands started to shake. So, the news she just read had been intentionally released under John’s order?

Shannon had it coming, but it was John who had started this by marrying her. If he had not given her hope and made her Mrs. Stockton, Shannon would not have come up with the idea of killing Sherry.
