Ch. 1256..1260
Chapter 1256 It was not an exaggeration to say that John was the one responsible for Shannon‘s arrest.
His email did not mention anything about him apologizing or lowering himself to meet her. The words screamed arrogance and egoism as he asked her to go back to him before he forgave her for what she had done.
Aside from the fact that what Sherry had done to John six years ago was against her will, even if she did it voluntarily , she had been imprisoned at the Stocktons‘ residence for two years and tortured sexually. The torment she had received was more than enough to make up for what she had done to him.
As Sherry‘s chest started to tighten, tears uncontrollably rolled down her eyes, and she started to choke on her emotions.
Just when she was about to break down in tears, a tiny pair of hands held her face.
“Aunt Sherry, why are you crying?” Isabel had somehow woken up without her realizing it and came up to her. The girl was looking at her crying face worriedly.
Sherry immediately wiped her tears away. “I-I'm fine. |
just saw a touching video.”
“Adults like to lie,” Isabel said with pouty lips. “It must be that man making you sad again, am | right?” Sherry forced a bitter smile on her face.
Isabel gave her a piece of tissue and said, “Crying is nothing shameful , so just cry if you want. Don't keep it all inside you. Release it.”
Sherry smiled weakly, and her tears poured out like a waterfall. She never thought that a six-year-old would offer her comfort and make her cry like a baby.
While drowning in her tears, she stammered , “Can I-I hug you?”
Isabel sighed. She crawled into Sherry‘s arms and hugged her waist. In response, Sherry hugged the girl tightly and continued sobbing.
The grievance from six years ago and the torment of two years overwhelmed her, causing her to cry her lungs out and fill the quiet ward with her sobbing.
It took her some time to finally calm down.
Isabel patted her back to offer comfort. Her voice might have been meek as a child, but it screamed of maturity when she said, “Only a bastard will make a woman cry. Forget him. You will meet someone better.”
Sherry smiled. After wiping her face dry, she carried the
girl and kissed her chubby cheeks multiple times.
Isabel sighed like an adult. “Aunt Sherry, are you feeling better now?”
Sherry smiled. “I'm a lot better. Thank you, my baby Isabel.”
Isabel pouted. “Then, let's get some sleep.”
“Alright.”
Sherry switched off the lamp by the table and lay down with the girl.
The girl crawled onto her chest and put a hand over her waist as though she was lullabying a baby to sleep.
Sherry smiled and closed her eyes. Venting her emotions exhausted her. After the girl fell asleep, Sherry swiftly followed her into dreamland.
The next morning, at the Carters, John got up after having some breakfast. He smiled at the couple and said, “ Thank you for your hospitality , Master and Mrs. Carter. I'll be taking my leave.”
Odell smiled. “You're welcome, Master Stockton.”
Sylvia‘s expression remained cold as she glared at him silently.
John looked at Liam and Flint. “Bye-bye, little men.”
Liam wore a cool expression and replied, “Take care, Uncle John.”
Flint murmured, “Care... care...”
John smiled and walked out of the house as Odell and Sylvia saw him off at the door.
After the car left their sight, Sylvia sighed a breath of relief. “He won't be coming again, will he?”
“I'm not sure about that.” Odell held her hand and returned inside. “Before he finds Sherry, he might come knocking again.” Sylvia frowned. “He hurt Sherry and he still wants her back? What a shameless man.”
Odell stared at her grumpy expression deeply and decided to remain silent.
Chapter 1257 Sylvia added, “If he’s shameless enough to come again, I'll get Ben or Jacob to throw him out!” Odell curled his lips. “Sure.”
Meanwhile, in the MPV that had just merged into the traffic, John leaned back in the rear seat and went on every available social media platform.
The messages he texted her last night were all left unread, and those that got through did not get a reply. It seemed like she had no access to social media.
Then, he checked his email. There were a number of new emails, mostly from his subordinates at the office, and agreements from his partners and clients. There was no personal mail, let alone a reply from that woman.
He wondered if she had access to her email or even noticed the email he sent her.
He started to worry about her condition. Had she gotten so weak that she could not even pick up her phone?
The flurry of thoughts furrowed his brows. He took his glasses off and rubbed his temples to ease the unnecessary thoughts. Awhile later, he called Peter.
The call got through swiftly, and before he could say anything, Peter said, “Sir, we are still working on Mr. Fowler's location. | believe Master Carter has done something. His influence here in Westchester is strong, so it's difficult for us to locate her.”
John said, “Stop searching for her. Tell the men to keep watching the Carters, especially Sylvia's whereabouts. If she goes out, follow her.”
“Yes, sir.”
A few days later at the Stockton Corporation headquarters in Glenchester, John had just finished a video conference. Peter knocked on his door and came in with a nervous look.
John glanced at him and asked, “What's the matter?”
“Sir, the men we assigned at the Carters‘ residence were detained,” Peter said in a small voice.
John frowned. “Odell Carter?”
“Yes, sir. Master Carter somehow found out about them and called the police, claiming that they had been spying on their home and accusing them of trespassing. They were taken away by the police.”
John chuckled. Peter anxiously continued, “I'm sorry for being careless, Master Stockton. We should have seen this coming.”
“It's not your fault. Odell is also a person with ruthless methods. He must have anticipated our men around his house.”
Peter sighed a breath of relief. He asked, “Then, what should we do next?” John tightened his lips. “Get our men out of the station.” Peter glanced at John's expression and wisely took his leave.
The office returned to silence. The man behind the desk remained quiet for a while before he took his phone out. He texted Sherry through all the available social media platforms, including her email.
There was a private hospital with spectacular privacy in Westchester, and that was where Sherry was hiding. Sherry and Isabel were sitting on the couch, watching television while munching on the food Sylvia brought them. Suddenly , Sherry‘s phone buzzed. She glanced at it and saw John‘s name and the email.
“Sherry, are you still alive? If you're not dead, reply. If you don't want to use words, you can just bark.” Sherry was rendered speechless.
Chapter 1258 Astrong sense of disgust rushed into her head.
Before her escape, she would have scolded the bastard a hundred times over, but she had learned how to stomach her grievance. She knew he was trying to get her attention so that she would go back to him.
She grunted and tossed her phone aside. Sylvia was playing with Flint beside Sherry when she noticed something out of the blue. “What's wrong?”
“Nothing. Just some spam mail,” Sherry said.
Sylvia pursed her lips and kept quiet. The peaceful days went on for a few more days. Sherry was finally given permission to be discharged over the weekend.
Sylvia wanted to bring her kids to the hospital to welcome her friend home, but when she got out of the house, an expensive MPV with a Glenchester plate number stopped in front of the gate.
The driver came down and opened the door.. John came down with a handful of presents. He smiled politely and humbly at Sylvia and her kids. “Mrs. Carter, where are you going?”
Sylvia glared at him. “What are you doing here?” “I came and left in a hurry the other day and disturbed you and Master Carter, so | brought presents to apologize for my unintentional interruption the other day. | also thought about visiting Madam Carter.” John seemingly wanted to enter the house with the presents.
Sylvia cleared her throat and was thinking about asking Ben or Jacob to stop John from going inside. It was then that Flint extended his little arm at John while gurgling,” Uncle...”
John put the presents down and carried Flint from Sylvia‘s hands. Flint became the most adorable baby in his arms, which left his mother speechless.
Liam stood there emotionlessly while his sister crossed her arms with a grumpy look. She sighed and said,” Stupid Flint doesn't know how to read the situation.”
John feigned ignorance at the mother and children’s unwelcoming gaze and played with Flint for a little while. He then turned around to gesture to the driver who followed him inside. Immediately, the driver picked up the presents and followed him into the living room.
Sylvia was left stunned at the gate. She swallowed her grief and reluctantly brought Liam and Isabel back into the house.
When they entered the living room, John and Flint were already sitting on the couch next to Odell. The two men were chatting “Master Carter, is Madam Carter around? | want to visit her as well.”
Odell was a lot calmer than Sylvia. He sipped his tea and said, “Grandmother is resting, so it's not a good time to see her now.”
John smiled. “It's totally fine. | have a lot of free time today. I'll wait for her to get better before seeing her.
Odell glanced at him.
John remained seated and continued to play with Flint. Meanwhile , Sylvia sulked silently as she went upstairs with Liam and Isabel.
John did not once mention Sherry, yet he lingered until the weekend before he left.
Once he departed, Sylvia brought the kids to the hospital to visit Sherry.
Sherry‘s arm had almost recovered.
When Sylvia and the kids arrived at the ward, Sherry was playing a game on her phone, seemingly having fun.
Sylvia had to call her to pull her out of the addiction.
Sherry immediately put the phone down and hugged each of the kids. She then hugged Sylvia and said, “Syl, | missed you.”
Sylvia smiled. “The discharge procedures are done. We can go now.”
Chapter 1259 “Alright!” Sherry turned around and held Isabel's hand. Sylvia carried Flint in one hand and held Liam‘s hand with the other.
After they got out of the elevator and were about to leave the hospital, Sherry stopped. She released Isabel’s hand, covered her mouth in a hurry, and ran to the trash can to throw up.
Sylvia immediately went up to her. Sherry continued throwing up for quite a while before she recovered. “Sherry, are you okay? Did you eat something bad?”
Sherry leaned against the wall feebly and said with furrowed brows, “I don’t think so. When you guys weren't around, | ate the food from the hospital cafeteria. | didn‘t order anything from outside.”
Anurse who happened to pass by overheard the conversation and added, “The food in our cafeteria is prepared under hygienic conditions with the strictest protocols, so it's unlikely that you could have consumed something rancid from there. Could you have caught a cold?”
Sherry shook her head. “I don't think so. | slept with the
blanket and never went out of the ward.”
What could have happened? “Aunt Sherry, are you pregnant?” Isabel asked all of a sudden.
Sylvia and the nurse were surprised.
Sherry widened her eyes in disbelief and denied her answer. “Impossible.”
She had taken birth control pills every time John had sex with her, so it was impossible for her to be pregnant.
Sylvia wore a worried expression. She then put Flint in Liam‘s care and said, “Liam, Issy, take care of Flint and Aunt Sherry. I'll go get a queue number. Be right back.”
The two of them nodded obediently.
Sylvia went back into the hospital to get a queue number for consultation , leaving Sherry together with the kids. Sherry puckered her lips and remained quiet.
An hour later, the doctor from gynecology came back with the report.
Appearing as pale as a sheet of paper, Sherry was seated on the chair with Sylvia and the kids beside her.
The doctor said, “Ms. Fowler, you are six weeks pregnant. You should rest more, eat less oily things, and don't
smoke or drink. Remember to come back for regular check
—ups.”
Sherry remained quiet throughout the consultation.
Sylvia nodded and answered on her friend‘s behalf,“ Thank you, doctor.” She then brought Sherry out of the doctor's room.
Sherry sulked in silence with her head lowered as soon as she walked out of the room.
Sylvia asked in a small voice, “Sherry, the baby...” “Syl, please give me some space.” “Okay. Let's go back first.”
They left the hospital and took a half an hour's ride to a house in the suburbs. Despite being in the suburbs, the environment was great because of the convenience of traffic and accommodating commercial streets.
Sylvia had bought the house for Aunt Tonya when she decided to retire in the future, so it was under Aunt Tonya‘s name. No matter how influential or resourceful John was, it was impossible for him to locate them here.
The house was not very big, but it was well-equipped with daily necessities. It was more than enough for Sherry to live on her own.
Sherry collapsed on the couch as soon as she entered and did not speak a word.
Sylvia told Aunt Tonya to bring the kids back first so that she could stay back to accompany her friend. Isabel insisted on staying, so Aunt Tonya took the boys home.
They stayed until late at night.
While Sylvia was still arranging her words to discuss the matter with Sherry, Isabel jumped onto the couch and sat down with her arms crossed. She said to Sherry, “Aunt Sherry, you're a beautiful woman, so your baby is going to be adorable.”
Sherry, who has been brooding the entire day, finally looked up at the girl. Isabel stared at her with her big googly eyes and adorable lips. “If you can't afford to take care of the baby after you give birth, don't worry. My mommy can take care of it.” Sylvia was rendered speechless by her daughter's words.
Sherry chuckled. She asked, “What if the baby isn't as beautiful as you?”
Chapter 1260 “No way!” Isabel said with a pouty expression. “Mommy and you are beautiful. That's why my brothers and | are all cuties.” Her chubby face had confidence smeared all over it.
Sylvia could not help but chuckle at the girl's comment. Sherry smiled. “You're right, but your daddy is—”
Asudden thought rushed into her mind before she could finish the sentence, hence leaving it unfinished. In terms of looks, Odell was the perfect specimen , but John was also a handsome man.
Sherry tightened her lips after a sigh. She smiled and said, “Okay, I'll listen to my little Issy and give birth to this little baby.” Isabel smiled delightfully, her eyes curving into crescents. “Yay! I'm going to have another sibling!” The little girl's delightful smile cheered Sherry up. She held the girl's chubby cheeks and kissed her repeatedly.
Sylvia smiled and also sighed a breath of relief. Abortion was harmful to a woman‘s body, and Sherry was extremely weak lately due to all that had happened. Since the baby was coming in a few months, Sherry would have one of her own to be by her side to fight the loneliness.
The mother and daughter accompanied her for the night.
The next day, Sherry felt better, physically and mentally.
Sylvia left Ben and Aunt Wanda in the house to take care of Sherry while she returned home with Isabel. Peaceful days went by swiftly.
John would visit once every weekend, but Sylvia and Odell were still cautious about him. Sherry, on the other hand, never walked out of the house.
Three months later, maybe John‘s persistence had finally faded or maybe the multiple visits to the Carters’ always ended up fruitless, so he suddenly stopped coming.
Just when Sylvia thought things finally settled down, John came back two months after that.
Fortunately, having a resourceful husband allowed her to catch wind of John‘s arrival. She immediately brought the kids back from Sherry‘s place and welcomed him with the coldest expression.
John came with his signature smile and a lot of presents for the kids and Madam Carter. He insisted on staying for the night again.
After dinner, Sylvia told the kids to go upstairs. Flint could already walk, so with the help of his siblings, he made his way up the stairs. Sebastian and Aunt Tonya left
the living room, leaving the couple and John alone.
However, John had no intention of leaving. He glanced at the dark sky outside the window and asked, “Master and Mrs. Carter, it's been six months. Can you tell me where Sherry is already?”
Sylvia frowned. His frequent visits annoyed her, but her resentment for him had faded over time. She could tell that he really wanted Sherry back.
However, Sherry had made it clear that she wanted to cut ties with the man, so she answered on behalf of her friend, “We don't know where she is.”
John smiled. “Please , Mrs. Carter , you definitely know where she is. Is it because she doesn't want to see me?”
“Why ask the obvious?” Sylvia retorted.
“| want to see her. Don't worry. If she doesn't want to follow me back, | won't force her, or maybe | can just have a peek at her from afar.” John looked at the couple with the most sincere gaze.
Sylvia pursed her lips and turned to Odell for help. John seemed sincere, but there was no guarantee that it was not an act.
Odell held Sylvia‘s hand under the table and said to John, “Master Stockton, to be honest, Ms. Fowler already left Westchester two months ago. She occasionally calls
Sylvia but doesn't reveal her whereabouts.”
