Ch. 1261..1265
Chapter 1261 Odell wore a calm expression on his handsome face. He looked at John brazenly without a hint of avoidance. Sylvia was slightly caught off guard. If she had not known better, she would have fallen for Odell’s act.
John’s sincerity faded upon hearing his words but only for a moment. He wore his signature smile again and said, “She does love traveling, but | believe Mrs. Carter is her best friend, and as far as | know, she will be back soon. If you have any news about her, please do let me know. Otherwise, it’s starting to get annoying and awkward for me to keep bothering you two.”
Odell curled his lips. “Alright. If we have anything about her, we'll let you know firsthand.”
Sylvia feigned a smile. She was certain that John was lying when he said he just wanted to see Sherry from afar. What an actor!
What needed to be said had been said. Therefore, John nodded and got up to the guest room before Sylvia and Odell returned to their room.
After closing the bedroom door, Sylvia was thinking about whether to inform Sherry about John’s visit, but a sudden thought stopped her from texting.
town
With John away for two months, Sherry’s condition had gotten better than before. If she learned of John’s arrival, it might make her worry again.
Suddenly, a soft touch landed on her head, followed by the man’s charming voice echoing in her ears. “What are you thinking about?”
Odell sat down beside her.
Sylvia leaned on his chest. “I was thinking whether | should tell Sherry about John’s arrival.” “Mm-hmm...” He stayed quiet for a while. “What are your honest thoughts?”
“| don’t want to tell her. I'm concerned that she might feel bad.”
“Then, don’t tell her,” the man said in his gentle voice.
She looked up at his gentle gaze and smiled. “Odell, since when did you become so deferent?”
Odell raised his brow and narrowed his eyes dangerously. He pinched her chin with one hand and said, “What did you say? | didn’t get it the first time. Tell me again.”
Sylvia would have definitely backed away in the early days, but now, she was not afraid of him anymore. She raised a brow and her volume at him. “I said, since when did you become so deferent?”
Odell curled his lips. “Very well. You’ve grown.” Sylvia hummed confidently as a reply.
In the next second, her lips were sealed. Before she could react, she was forced onto the bed with him on top of her.
The quiet bedroom was then filled with endless rustling.
When the bedroom finally quietened down, Sylvia was allowed to catch a breath. She said, “Odell, the window is open. Go shut
(
Before she could finish the sentence, Odell got on top of her again. He ravaged her with his lips and whispered, Sylvia, you’re gotten more audacious lately. Is it because | am too lenient with you?”
“Uh...”
He chuckled and whispered into her ear, “You'd better find a way to make it up to me, or don’t think about walking tomorrow.” Sylvia was rendered speechless.
The chilly night breeze entered through the window and carried the passionate heat out of the room.
Meanwhile, in the guest room diagonally below the master bedroom, John was standing by the window with his eyes blankly glued to the night sky. The sudden noise above him put a smirk on his face. He closed the window and went back inside.
Chapter 1262 Three months went by in the blink of an eye.
John would visit once every week. Sylvia was deeply annoyed at first, but as time went by, she was able to completely ignore the man.
Flint was the only exception because he seemed to like the man. He would jump into John’s arms whenever he came by.
In fact, the little boy would scuttle out of the door when he heard John’s car at the gate. The moment he saw John, he would gurgle, “Uncle, Uncle...”
John squatted down and carried the little guy into his arms so that Flint nuzzled against his cheek. John pinched the little guy’s cheek with a smile as he walked inside.
The driver followed him inside with a load of presents. He walked to Sylvia and smiled. “Mrs. Carter, good afternoon.”
Sylvia responded with a cold glare and nothing else. She tapped Isabel and Liam’s shoulders, signaling them to greet him instead.
Liam said, “Hello, Uncle John.” Isabel scoffed and reluctantly greeted him. “Uncle John.”
John patted their heads. “Hello, little ones.” He then carried Flint into the living room. It was as though he returned to his own house.
Sylvia went inside with her kids as well. Odell was drinking tea in the living room. John greeted him and then sat down on the couch next to him. Sylvia took the kids further away and played with their remote—controlled car.
Flint turned around and noticed his mother and siblings having fun with the toy. He crawled out of John’s arm and waddled over to the group.
“Mommy...” He asked to be coddled as soon as he reached his mother’s side.
Sylvia carried him into her arms with a smile. As she guided his hands around the remote control, they started a little race with Isabel and Liam.
The little guy had no idea how to play, simply pressing the buttons and making the car flip over in a few seconds, but it put a wide smile on his face. The boy giggled endlessly even when his own car flipped or his sibling’s car turned over.
In the second round, Flint knocked over his sister’s car at the start of the race.
“Hehehe...”
Isabel pouted and glared at the little guy.
In response, Flint widened his googly eyes and tried to look adorable and pitiful.
Her grumpy expression faded instantly. “Hmph! I'll let you go this time. If you knock my car over again, I'll knock yours over!”
“Hehehe...”
Isabel pursed her lips and turned around to her brother. ” Liam, again! This round doesn’t count!”
However, Liam ignored her.
The naughty Isabel quickly snatched the remote control from Liam’s hand, causing the car to run out of the tracks. Isabel grinned mischievously with her eyes curved, and so did Flint. Liam pursed his lips helplessly.
Sylvia could not help but smile at their adorable
interaction.
On the other side, Odell and John turned around when they heard the peals of laughter.
Odell smiled at Sylvia and the kids.
John stared at Flint who was a treasure to him. He also watched Liam and Isabel’s adorable interaction, and his gaze softened. He looked rather jealous when he asked, ” Master Carter, | bet your daily life is always lively like this
with the kids around.”
Chapter 1263
“Life is simple and good with a good wife and kids. It's simple and lively.” Odell raised his brows, expressing his satisfaction and gratitude for the life he currently had.
John smiled. “I envy you.” Odell smiled. “Everyone has their own life, and maybe | am destined to be happy in this life with the company of my family.”
“I see...”
Ding! The ringtone of a phone suddenly chimed, and the two of them turned to Sylvia together.
After she pulled the phone out from her pocket and saw the caller ID, she unconsciously looked toward Odell and John. Odell’s gaze shifted, while John caught the little interaction and narrowed his eyes.
Sylvia answered the call while holding Flint with one hand. “What’s wrong, Aunt Wanda?” Aunt Wanda said something on the phone that made her knit her brows together and a nervous expression settled on her face. However, Sylvia swiftly suppressed her nervousness
when she sensed John’s keen gaze. She feigned a calm tone and said, “Go over with Ben first, and don’t worry. I'm caught up with something now, but I'll try to get over there as soon as possible.”
The call ended.
Sylvia did not look at Odell or John but continued to play with the kids as if nothing happened. “Is there anything that requires your attention, Mrs. Carter?” John asked.
Sylvia answered coldly, “It’s nothing important.”
John smiled. “Who's Aunt Wanda? I’ve visited so many times, but | haven’t even seen her once.” He looked at Odell, hoping for an answer.
Odell remained calm as he sipped on his tea. He did not answer John’s question. Annoyed, Sylvia argued, “What does it have to do with you?”
John kept his smile. “I’m just curious, nothing else.”
Sylvia glared at him and decided to ignore him.
John put the question aside and continued drinking tea with Odell. At the same time, the kids continued playing with their remote control cars.
Sylvia was watching Flint play, but her brows remained tightly furrowed. She seemed to be bothered by the call
she just received.
When the sky finally turned dark, Flint exhausted all his energy and fell asleep.
Sylvia put Flint in Liam’s care and said to Isabel, “Issy, Mommy is going to Aunt Wanda’s place. Do you want to come along?” Liam's eyes flickered upon hearing his mother. He held his sleeping brother tightly.
Isabel tacitly understood what her mother was trying to imply. She nodded and said, “Yeah, I'll come along.” She put the remote control down and got up.
Sylvia held her hand and walked to Odell. “I got Aunt Wanda to buy me some paint for painting, but she couldn’t handle it alone. I'll go have a look. Don’t wait for me and Isabel for dinner. We might be late.”
Odell curled his lips. “Yeah, go ahead.“,
Sylvia and Isabel headed out immediately and hastened their steps once outside the door.
John watched them leave and asked, “What kind of paint is Mrs. Carter buying that requires that many pairs of hands to carry?” Odell answered calmly, “I don’t know. Stuff that she uses for painting, | guess.”
John had another glance at Sylvia and Isabel leaving the
house. He took his phone out and texted, “Sylvia is out with the girl. Follow them and stay low.”
“Who are you texting, Master Stockton?”
John’s gaze shifted. He smiled at Odell and said, “My assistant about some work stuff.”
Odell nodded.
Half a minute later, Odell took his phone out and texted Sylvia, “John might have sent someone to follow you, so be careful.” “Who are you texting, Master Carter?”
Odell looked at him and replied, “My assistant about some work stuff.”

Chapter 1264
As John smiled, Odell calmly locked eyes with him. 1
The tense situation only lasted for a few seconds before they indulged in their own cups of tea. Sylvia got into the car and was on the way out of the Carters‘ residence.
Aunt Wanda had informed her earlier that Sherry’s water just broke, so they should already be at the hospital, ready to deliver.
As the nervousness occupied her thoughts, she missed the text from Odell.
When the car drove past a set of traffic lights, and they were only ten minutes away from the hospital, Sylvia's phone rang. It was Aunt Wanda.
She answered the phone immediately. “Aunt Wanda, how're things?”
“Ms. Fowler is in the delivery room, and she’s been wanting to see you. The doctors also urge her family to be here. Are you on your way?”
Sylvia answered, “I’m almost at the hospital. Tell her to hold on, and I'll be right there.” “Alright, I'll convey the message.”
Right when Sylvia hung up the phone, she suddenly saw the text from Odell. A quick glance at the content later, her gaze shifted, and she nervously looked into the rearview mirror.
She spotted a silver MPV and a couple of cars behind them, and they seemed to have followed them since they left the house. She clearly remembered that the MPV was John’s car from earlier.
Her gaze turned cold. “Jacob, the silver MPV behind us is John’s. Can you lose it?”
Jacob glanced into the mirror. “I can, but | might have to take a detour.”
A uick hesitation later, she said, “Take it.”
She could not afford to let John find out about Sherry’s location, let alone the fact that she was carrying his baby. Jacob nodded and made a U-turn after the traffic light.
The silver MPV did not expect Jacob to turn the car around. They tried to catch up with him, but when they finally got out of traffic, Jacob had already driven the car onto the other lane.
Jacob drove fast and shook John’s men off in just two turns. Ten minutes later, the car finally arrived at the hospital, where Sherry was admitted.
Sherry carried Isabel out of the car and went to the counter. Several minutes later, they arrived at the delivery room with Aunt Wanda and Ben pacing anxiously at the entrance. 1
They came up to her immediately, and Aunt Wanda said, ” Madam, you’re finally here! Hurry up and go inside!”
Sylvia nodded and brought Isabel into the delivery room.
Sherry was on the delivery bed, panting in pain. The excruciating agony took over her mind, preventing her from thinking properly.
The abdominal pain piled up over the minutes. She gasped in pain and tears started to trifle down her cheeks. How could it hurt so much?
She shut her eyes and clenched her teeth as tight as possible.
There were two delivery beds in the room, and on the other one was another mother waiting to deliver. Unlike her own lonely situation, the other woman had her husband and her own mother by her side.
As the pain hit, the mother started to sob.
Her husband consoled her, “Don’t worry. After they give you the epidural, you will be fine. Just bite the bullet and we'll go through this together. This is the first and the last. We don’t need another baby, and I’ll buy you
whatever you want after this! Okay?!” The man sounded like he was trying to console a child.
The older woman assured, “Don’t worry. I’m here with you too. I’ve been through this once, and | know how it feels. I’m not going anywhere!”
Chapter 1265 The mother cried louder and harder, even begging to stop the delivery process. However, her husband and mother continued to soothe her with sweet and calming words.
The man and the elderly lady were comforting another woman , yet Sherry felt like those words were for her. It soothed her anxiety and pain, but it did not stop her tears from pouring out.
Matthew and Janine’‘s faces flashed in her mind for some reason. She believed that her parents were more worried about Shannon being in prison than her giving birth. Even if they knew she was pregnant, they would only call her a shameless woman.
The contractions continued to torment her.
She took a deep breath and placed her hand on her belly. She could feel the baby coming out, but the contractions seemed to be a little more violent than what other pregnant women went through.
Could the baby know the father was not around, hence it was throwing a tantrum during delivery? Tears continued to stream out of her eyes. Sherry started to run out of breath as the pain almost knocked her out cold.
“Sherry!” “Aunt Sherry! Mommy and | are here!” When the familiar voices entered her ears, she opened her eyes and saw Sylvia and Isabel running towards her. Her eyes got even foggier with tears, and she started to cry a river. She pursed her lips and called her friend, “Syl
Sylvia went over to the bed and held her hand. “Sherry, I'm sorry we're late!”
Sherry continued to cry. “It hurts...” Sylvia wiped the neverending tears off her cheeks and consoled her, “I know, | know it hurts. Just hang in there. You will feel better after they give you the painkillers.”
Isabel watched with her big googly eyes by the bed. Her fists were tightly clenched as she tried to cheer Sherry up, “Aunt Sherry, you're the best! You can do it!”
Sherry forced a bitter smile on her face. “Alright, I'll do my best.”
The moment her words subsided, pain tormented her once more. She instinctively screamed for mercy. Sylvia continued to soothe her, while Isabel watched nervously by the side.
The torment only ended when the doctor came in and gave Sherry some painkillers. She was moments away from the actual delivery.
“Aunt Sherry, remember! You are the best! Go get'em!” Isabel gave Sherry a big thumbs-up.
Sylvia smiled. “Don't worry, we'll wait for you here!”
Sherry‘s eyes teared up once more. She curled her lips and answered, “See you in a bit.”
At the Carters’ residence, the phone suddenly rang.
Ding!
John quickly glanced at Odell. “Excuse me, Master Carter, | must take this.”
Odell nodded. “Yeah, sure.”
John then answered the phone.
The driver that had been assigned to follow Sylvia said in a small voice, “Sir, Mrs. Carter seems to have noticed us, and we lost them at the traffic light.”
John looked at Odell. “| see. Come back first.” The driver sighed a breath of relief as there was no obvious rage in John’s tone. “Yes, sir.” John put the phone down and smiled at Odell. “Master Carter, your wife and kid aren't going out for art materials, am | right?”
Odell looked at him coldly. “What are you trying to say?” “She went to see Sherry, didn't she?” John frowned and wore a cold expression.
“| have no idea what you are talking about,” Odell answered.
“Master Carter, aside from our decent working relationship, | have been visiting your house frequently the past nine months, and | think it's safe to consider that we are friends.”
Odell pursed his lips and nodded.
John wore a sincere smile. “Have your wife and kid gone to see Sherry?”
