Chapter 1346

Chapter 1346 There was a few seconds of silence on the phone. Then, Odell called out to her in a low voice. “Sylvia.” His tone was full of helplessness as if she was being unreasonable again. Sylvia sneered. “Don't call me in that tone. Just say so if you don't want to fire her.”

“She hasn't made any mistakes at work.” After a pause, he added, “But | can transfer her back to the administration department.”

It seemed like transferring Shermaine back to the administration department was the biggest compromise he would grant. Sylvia‘s chest still felt stuffy.

If the incident with Charles did not happen, if she did not see Shermaine bump into him, and if Shermaine did not look like her at all, she would not have made such a request to Odell no matter how pretty Shermaine was.

However, he not only defended Shermaine time and time again, but he also called her unreasonable and yelled at her directly in front of that minx.

Thinking of those scenes, Sylvia could not suppress her pain. She took a deep breath and asked, “Odell, do you just not want her to leave your side?” There was a moment of silence on the phone.

The man‘s harsh breathing came, followed by his low voice. “Sylvia, we agreed to trust each other. Have you forgotten?” Sylvia replied, “I didn't forget, but you repeatedly defended her regardless of my feelings. How do you think I'm supposed to trust you now?” “When did | defend her?”

Sylvia immediately said, “She framed Charles, but you didn't even listen to my explanation and insisted on sending him to the police station. She deliberately splashed water on you and then bumped into you. You yelled at me and called me unreasonable in her defense!” Odell paused. “She didn't frame Charles, and she didn't intentionally splash water on me.”

Sylvia said, “Look. You're still defending her now.” “I'm not defending her. I'm telling you the truth!” “That's not the truth at all. You've been deceived by her... No, your heart is already biased toward her.”

“Sylvia Ross! Will you stop being unreasonable?!” he roared. 1 Sylvia sneered. “Look, you're yelling at me again.”

There was silence on the phone.

For a while, Sylvia did not hear him speak.

Did he hang up?

She held the phone and looked at the screen.

It showed that she was still connected. She brought the phone back to her ear. “If you don't need anything else, I'm hanging up. | still have stuff to do.”

He asked coldly, “What stuff?” “None of your business.” Sylvia hung up the phone directly. AT

After waiting for a few minutes and seeing that he had no intention of calling again, she put away her phone and sat back down next to Ms. Kang and Ms. Johnson.

The atmosphere was cheerful, but Sylvia could not bring herself to feel happy at all.

In a vacant lot right outside Elysian House in Westchester , Odell clutched a cell phone. His tall figure stood straight and unmoving for a long time.

Not far away, the manager and several waiters from whom he borrowed phones stood together, shivering while they looked at him.

After a while, seeing that he was still standing still, a

waiter timidly spoke out. “Master Carter, I-I still need to work. Are you done with the calls?”

‘If you have, give me back my phone. You're going to crush it in your grip.“

Odell's gaze swept toward him.

The waiter instantly lowered his head in fear, but Odell handed the phone to him.

The waiter took it and thanked him.

Then, the manager said, “Master Carter, if there's nothing else, we'll go in first.” Odell ignored him and walked toward the parking lot. The manager immediately breathed a sigh of relief and raised his hand to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead. The several waiters also took a long breath and could not help but mutter as they watched Odell walk away.

“Did Master Carter call his wife? Why are they still arguing?” “Who knows? From the sound of it, it seems his wife misunderstood that he's having an affair with someone else.”

“Isn't he? | feel like there‘s something going on between him and that secretary who accompanied him earlier.” “Shh, stop talking. Be careful not to let him hear you.*

Chapter 1347

Chapter 1347 Fortunately, Odell did not hear their conversation. At that moment, his mind was completely sober without a trace of intoxication. He got back in the car and drove.

When the black sports car disappeared from the road, Shermaine, who had been hiding in the shadows for a long time, came out. Looking at the direction in which his car left, she curled her mouth in a smile, her expression happy and smug.

‘His stupid wife left home for so many days, but not only did he not compromise, he still believed in me unwaveringly. How would he be so adamant in defending me if he wasn’t interested in me?’

The weekend passed in the blink of an eye. It was a new week.

In the early morning, Odell opened his eyes and looked at the quietness of the room. His eyes were cold and lonely. He got up and washed up.

After eating breakfast with Madam Carter and the children, he watched Isabel and Liam get in the car to go to school, hugged a jumping Flint, and then took his car

to the office.

The company was still running in the same orderly manner as before. He went straight to the office, sat down at his desk, turned on the computer, and started working.

Shermaine came in at some point and brought him the documents he needed to read that day as well as a cup of tea to soothe his fatigue. He only pulled himself out of his work and looked at her after she called him several times.

She smiled and said to him, “Master Carter, all the documents you want are here. You should also drink the tea while it’s hot.” Her eyes, hairstyle, and the way she dressed somewhat resemble Sylvia’s.

At first glance, he seemed to see Sylvia instead. He could not help but glance at her a few more times.

Then, he responded, “Got it.”

He flipped open the document and read it.

Shermaine sensibly walked out.

A few more days of such calm and peaceful times passed.

However, not only did Odell’s mood not become calm, he became more irritable instead.

That afternoon, a project went wrong because of the negligence of two senior executives, and the anger in his

body instantly exploded.

He called them directly to his office. He never liked to reprimand people loudly, so he simply made them stand next to him. Then, he sat on a chair with his hands crossed and stared at them.

He stared for an hour. The clothes of one of the senior executives were drenched in sweat.

The other one shivered and could not help but say, “We know we were wrong, Master Carter. We won't dare to be negligent next time. Please punish or scold us if you want to, but can you not stare at us like that?” His voice sounded like it was begging.

Odell narrowed his eyes. Knock, knock!

Aknock on the door suddenly sounded.

“Come in,” he said.

Shermaine pushed open the door and walked in, holding a cup of freshly brewed rose tea. She placed the tea on his table and said to him with a bright smile, “Master Carter, have some tea to calm down.”

Odell picked up the teacup and took a sip, then glanced at the two executives. “Get out.” The two quickly walked out and cast grateful looks at

Have Yo

Shermaine when they passed by her.

The efficacy of the rose tea was quite good, and his anger abated somewhat after taking a few sips. He glanced at Shermaine again. “You get out too.”

Shermaine smiled and answered, “Yes, sir.”

Then, she went out.

Odell opened the file in front of him and read it. Just as he was about to focus on his work, another knock sounded at the door. He frowned.

Shermaine opened the door and said to him, “Master Carter, Master Stockton is here.”

John?

Odell frowned and asked, “Why is he here?”

Shermaine replied, “He said he came to talk to you about a project in Glanchester.”

Odell closed the file and said to her, “Tell him to come in, and go make another pot of tea.”

“Understood.”

A few minutes later, the door was pushed open, and a young man in a suit walked in holding a two-year-old toddler. The little girl was chubby and pink. As soon as she entered, she called out to him softly, “Hello, Uncle!”

Odell smiled at her. “Hello.”

John placed her on the ground.

Caprice immediately walked toward him with her little legs. She was not trying to hug Odell’s legs. She curiously walked behind him, made a big round, and then continued to explore the rest of the office.

John’s gaze followed her for a while. “Caprice, tell Daddy if you want anything. Don’t try to get it yourself, or you might hurt yourself.”

The corners of Odell’s mouth twitched. Before John said the last sentence, he thought that John was trying to teach Caprice not to take things that were not hers.

Caprice gave an obedient hum and continued to stroll about. John sat down on the sofa.

Odell looked at him. “Which project do you want to talk to me about?” They had cooperated on several projects in Glanchester which were making good progress.

John replied, “Nothing specific. | just came to tell you that the projects are going well.” Odell gave him a cold look. This guy was obviously just here to loiter.

Just then, there was another knock on the door.

Odell said, “Enter.”

Shermaine walked in with tea. She first handed a cup to John and put another cup on Odell’s table, then turned around and walked out.

John picked up the cup of tea as if he was about to drink it, but his eyes lingered on Shermaine. He only withdrew his gaze when she walked out.

Odell noticed John’s gaze, and his eyes narrowed. He

asked with interest, “What? Are you interested in my secretary?”

John laughed. “You've misunderstood. As I've said, I’m not interested in her type.” “Then, why are you staring at her?”

“| just thought she looks similar to your wife.”

Odell asked in confusion, “Why are you mulling over that?”

“I'm not mulling over it.” John looked at him and curled his lips. “l was wondering if you kept her around as your secretary because she looks like your wife, or your type just so happens to be like her and your wife.”

Odell frowned, and his expression sank. “She’s my secretary because my previous secretary had to go home. for personal affairs. | wasn’t the one who brought her in either.”

John leaned back on the sofa lazily and said with a smile, | know she was recommended by your assistant, but you had to nod your head and agree before she could become your secretary.”

((

Odell looked at him coldly. “Do you think I’m interested in her?”

“That’s not what | meant. I’m just voicing my speculations as a bystander, and | shouldn't be the only one to think so. When I came up, | met two of your

employees who were probably executives of your company. They were talking about your relationship with your secretary, and they also lamented that you would have continued to torture them if your secretary hadn’t helped them out.”

Finishing with a smile, he picked up the teacup and took a sip, then complimented, “This tea is brewed really well.” Odell gave him a cold look. “Save the theatrics and just tell me straight. Do you think I’m interested in her?”

John smiled. “Yes.”

“Did you see anything? Besides the gossip you heard when you came up, did you hear anything else?”

“| didn’t see or hear anything. | just sense it.”

“Why?”

“Because whether it’s the way she looks or the way she dresses, it’s very similar to Sylvia. | don’t know if she was born like this or if she’s deliberately imitating Sylvia.”

“She’s not that kind of person.”

John laughed. “Master Carter, | haven’t said anything yet. Why are you in such a rush to defend her?”

Chapter 1349

Odell frowned.

Defend her?

“I'm just stating the truth.”

He was clearly speaking the truth from an objective perspective. How was that defending her? Sylvia had also said the same thing.

John laughed. “Don’t tell me you defended her like this in front of Sylvia as well?” Odell’s frown deepened. After a short silence, he said, ” I’m not defending her.”

“Sure.” John put down the teacup, turned his head to look for Caprice, and saw her in a corner. She was squatting on the floor, playing with a cute ornament in her hand.

John got up, walked up to her, and picked her up.

Caprice was still holding the small ornament. It was clear

that she liked it.

He asked, “Do you like this, Caprice?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Then, you can take it.”

Caprice pursed her lips and looked at him with large eyes. “That's not very nice, Daddy.”

John laughed. “What do you mean?”

Caprice said, “We haven't said thank you to Uncle Odell.”

While John grinned, Odell’s lips pulled down. Sure enough, they were father and daughter.

John brought her to Odell and said to him with a smile, Master Carter, Caprice wants some local snacks. I'll take her there first.” He walked away.

“Wait.”

John turned around.

Odell stared at him with deep eyes and asked, “Do you really think I’m interested in Shermaine?” (c

The smile faded from John’s eyes, and his expression turned solemn. “Yes.”

Odell pursed his lips and frowned tightly.

John said nothing more and carried Caprice out.

The large office suddenly fell silent. The man sat behind his desk. His conflicted and dark expression did not loosen for a long time.

Putting aside the two executives who talked about

Shermaine and him, even a shrewd person like John thought that he was interested in her. In that case... Sylvia was not being unreasonable to him. He had been too busy some time ago and ignored her feelings.

After a long silence, he picked up the phone and called Cliff.

The call was connected quickly.

He said, “Inform the administrative department and ask them to choose someone to take Shermaine’s place

immediately.”

Cliff was stunned. “Master Carter, did Shermaine do something wrong?”

“She didn’t do anything wrong. Give her another position in the administration department.”

“Understood.” After hesitation, he asked, “Sir, could you tell me the reason for replacing her so that | can explain it to her?” Odell said without changing his expression, “She’s not suitable for the secretary position.”

Cliff did not ask any more questions and simply said, ” Okay.”

Odell hung up the phone. He appreciated people who worked hard and were capable. Furthermore, Shermaine had saved his grandmother, so he let her stay as his secretary. He was sure that he was not interested in her at

all. T

Although she somewhat resembled Sylvia, she was only somewhat similar in appearance. In essence, she was different from her.

Chapter 1350

As usual, Odell finished his work and left the office in the evening.

Shermaine tidied up and was ready to get off work too.

Just then, Cliff called her. She answered the phone and asked with a smile, “How may | help you, Assistant

Bogard?”

“Are you free later? Let’s have dinner together.”

Shermaine was not a fool. Cliff was very busy. He would not invite her for dinner for no reason. She asked, “Is there something you have to say to me?”

“Yes. Let's talk face to face.”

Since Odell had left, there was no reason for Shermaine to stay, so she agreed. Ten minutes later, Cliff and she arrived at a restaurant and sat face-to-face. Cliff looked at her with a complicated expression, hesitating to speak.

Shermaine noticed his face and suddenly felt a little uneasy. Her eyes flickered as she smiled and said, “If you have something to say, just say it.”

Cliff took a deep breath. “Go back to the administration department from tomorrow onward. I’ve arranged a position for you. You can take up the post when you arrive tomorrow.”

Shermaine’s expression changed, and she immediately asked, “Why do you want me to go back to the administration department? Did | do something wrong to make Master Carter unhappy?”

Cliff was stunned. He obviously did not expect her outburst. However, he rationalized that it was because it was hard to accept a sudden transfer. “No, you worked very hard and didn’t make any mistakes.”

Shermaine could not hold back her emotions and continued to ask with a cold face, “Then, why do you want to transfer me somewhere else?”

Cliff also frowned.

For some reason, he felt that Shermaine’s expression was a little strange. It was very different from her usual generous and gentle appearance.

After thinking for a moment, he said, “Master Carter's orders. He thinks you're not suitable for the post of secretary.” Shermaine frowned and asked incredulously, “Did Master Carter really order it?” “Yes. | couldn’t have transferred you if he didn’t order it.”

Shermaine bowed her head and clenched her hands under the table. She thought of what Odell said last Saturday night at Elysian House when he had borrowed those waiters’ cell phones to call Sylvia.

He mentioned that he would transfer her, but his tone sounded like he only proposed it as a compromise for Sylvia to come back. However, Sylvia did not agree in the end. He had then called her unreasonable again and hung up the phone and left with a dark expression.

He did not ask her to be transferred until today. Why did he suddenly want to transfer her?

Shermaine choked on her breath and asked, “Assistant Bogard, is Master Carter doing this because of Mrs. Carter?”

Cliff replied, “I’m not sure. He only told me that you're not suitable for this position.” She laughed coldly. “It must be because of Mrs. Carter.” Cliff felt uncomfortable when he heard her tone. He said

bluntly, “Shermaine, | know you feel wronged, but since Mrs. Carter misunderstood you, it’s natural for Master Carter to transfer you away for her sake. Moreover, your new position in the administration department is no worse than your current position. You'll maintain your salary as well.”

His tone was a little cold. Shermaine’s expression changed. She suddenly realized that she had misspoken.

She pursed her lips and softened her expression. “You're right. It slipped my mind because | got worked up. Master Carter and Mrs. Carter’s relationship is the most important. | can accept it even if | have to leave.”

Cliff's expression also eased when he saw her relax. “It’s good that you understand.” Not long after the meal was finished, he took a phone call and left.

The moment he went out, Shermaine’s face turned cold. She frowned. Her expression was full of anger and resentment that could not be concealed.
