Ch. 1351..1355
Chapter 1351
Chapter 1351 ‘Master Carter transferred me somewhere else because of his stupid wife?! What does that woman know other than blackmailing him by leaving the house? And he compromised?!
Shermaine was furious. Her anger was apparent through the bent fork in her hand. She believed the man was compromising for the sake of his kids, therefore she could no longer sit back and do nothing
If the stupid woman threatened him using the kids again and forced him to fire her, she would not even be able to see him anymore!
Meanwhile, at a medieval-themed commercial street back at Glenchester, John was shuttling through the crown with Caprice. Aunt Wanda and two other bodyguards were following them.
The sky was dark, but Caprice still wanted to stroll around. Her big googly eyes moved rapidly and sized up everything in her surroundings with utmost interest.
One of her hands clung to her father's neck while she held the pink—colored bread in her other. She got the
bread from the moment she arrived on the street and had been munching on it since. John held her single-handedly while carrying a bunch of pink and yellow toys in the other hand.
Suddenly, Caprice pointed at a shop selling antique souvenirs. An exquisite music box with beautiful carvings caught her attention. “Daddy, that...”
John brought her into the shop. Caprice was captivated by the shiny gemstones and meticulous carvings on the music box. After confirming that she wanted the music box, John told the storekeeper to pack it. “I want this music box.”
The storekeeper packed it up immediately.
John added the nicely packed box to the plethora of toys that he had been holding. He looked around the souvenir shop and then asked Caprice, “Is there anything else that catches your eye?”
Caprice stared at her father's hand that was holding a bunch of other toys. She shook her head and said, “I only like the box.” John smiled and carried her out of the shop.
Ashort stroll later, they finally left the commercial street. The driver also timely brought the car over.
John put all the toys he bought in the trunk and then
carried Caprice into the car. Aunt Wanda and the bodyguards entered together.
The driver asked, “Sir, where are we heading?”
John looked at Caprice. “Sweetie, where else do you want to go?”
When Caprice stared outside the window, John looked in the direction of her gaze and saw a boy of similar age to her. The boy was in his father's embrace and was chatting with his mother beside him.
It was heart-warming just looking at the family of three.
John's gaze shifted. He turned Caprice‘s face over and asked, “Caprice , Daddy‘s talking to you. Where else do you want to go?”
Caprice shook her head while she continued nipping on the bread in her hand.
John then said to the driver, “Let's go home.”
The driver nodded and started the car.
It was quiet along the way. Caprice nibbled on the bread like an ant. She had been out for the entire afternoon but was not tired at all. Something was clearly going on in her little mind as she stared forward blankly.
John stared at her in silence for a while before he pulled his phone out.
In the past two years, he texted Sherry every once in a while but had not gotten a single reply from her.
He tapped on the camera and snapped a picture of her working slowly on the bread from the side.
He set it as his wallpaper and then sent the picture to Sherry, including via all of her social media accounts.
This would be the first time he was sending a picture of Caprice to her. Should she have a conscience, she would not stay silent this time.
Chapter 1352
Chapter 1352 Meanwhile, far away in Coastrock City, Sherry was having a phone call with Sylvia. It was then that she received a notification from her mailbox.
The notification made the expression on her face change. “Syl, something came up. | have to go.” “Alright. You get busy. I'll go out for a walk,” Sylvia said.
Sherry smiled. “Have fun.” The call ended. Sherry then clicked on the newly received mail and saw the picture John sent her.
It was Caprice quietly nibbling on the pink—colored bread. The girl's pinkish cheek took up half of the screen, and the close-up shot even showed off her long curly eyelashes.
Sherry gasped. She carefully stroked the cheek on the screen.
The girl's googly eyes stared blankly in front. She must be either carried away by the taste of the bread or the thoughts in her mind. She looked absolutely quiet and obedient.
Sherry uncontrollably curled her lips and her expression softened.
She set the picture as her wallpaper . Then, she put her phone aside and took the documents out of her drawer. She flipped through the pages of the market research done on Glenchester with a serious look.
She had to go back soon. If she continued to wander off to other cities, her daughter would grow up without her.
The trip to the plains ended.
Sylvia, Ms. Kang, and Ms. Johnson arrived at an old city.
The old city was developed into a tourist spot with the retention of its traditional and medieval structural designs.
Sylvia stayed in the hotel beside one of the famous tourist spots in the city.
She shared a separate room with Ms. Kang and Ms. Johnson, so she was able to have the call with Sherry alone in the room. After the call with Sherry, she tapped on the chat group with her kids.
Isabel sent her several recent pictures of themselves.
Liam was as cool as ever. Flint’s picture looked funny, maybe because the boy had annoyed his sister again, hence the comical face. Still, the funny face did not
conceal the adorableness of the boy. Isabel's own selfie had layers of filters on as she posed beautifully. Sylvia stared at the pictures for quite some time. She would be lying to herself if she claimed she did not miss them at all.
However, she still did not want to go back. The man was still protecting his secretary and going back would only result in endless arguments.
Ding! It was then that she received a text from Sebastian's number.
“| have transferred Shermaine somewhere else. She's no longer my secretary starting tomorrow.” Judging from the tone, Odell must have texted her using Sebastian‘s phone.
Sylvia‘s gaze shifted. Her fingers automatically hovered above the keyboard of her phone, but she hesitated.
Eventually, she put the phone aside. A while later, she received another text from Sebastian again.
“What are you doing?” It was from Odell again.
Sylvia refused to reply, but before she could put the phone down, she received a call. It was him.
Sylvia pursed her lips and reluctantly answered the phone.
The man‘s charming voice echoed in her ears. “Did you see my texts?”
“| saw them. So what?”
“Why didn't you reply?” He sounded annoyed.
“| don’t want to.”
The conversation entered an awkward silence.
A few seconds later, he said, “When are you coming back?”
Sylvia‘s eyes flickered. She thought he would at least raise his voice at her or blame her for being irresponsible.
Chapter 1353
Chapter 1353 He still sounded grumpy, but it was obvious that he wanted her to return. “I don't want to see Shermaine again. Fire her and I'll come back,” she said.
“I've transferred here somewhere else. You won't see her again.”
“| don't want you to transfer her. | want her out of Carter Corporation,” Sylvia said with clenched teeth. She added, “I know she saved Grandmother before, and if you think you owe it to her, give her some money, or refer her to work somewhere else.”
The call went silent all of a sudden.
Thoughts were running through the man‘s mind as he remained quiet for a while. Sylvia‘s expression turned cold. “Odell, if you have nothing else to say, that's it.” He remained silent, so she hung up the phone.
Back at the Carters’ residence in Westchester, the man‘s towering figure stood outside the front yard. He stared at the phone after the call ended, and his brows furrowed. Helplessness and annoyance were smeared all over his face.
He had transferred Shermaine somewhere else within the company, and it would be difficult for him to see her anymore.
In his opinion, a capable and good employee was just as good as any other hardworking employee. The company’s policy was to promote capable and hardworking employees, not firing them without a solid reason which had never happened before.
More importantly, there was nothing between Shermaine and him, yet the woman on the other end of the phone refused to trust him.
He stood outside with a sulky expression for a while.
Sebastian walked up to him and asked in a small voice,” Sir, it's getting late. Why don't you go rest?” The weather was unforgivingly cold, and Sebastian was freezing despite the layers of coats he had on. Odell was dressed thinly, and if he continued standing outside, he would catch a cold.
Odell regained his composure and returned the phone to Sebastian. He strode into the house with a grumpy look. He refused to care anymore. If the woman decided to abandon him and the children and wander somewhere else forever, she would not have to come back!
After Odell returned to his room, he took off his jacket
and angrily threw it on the floor. He washed up in the bathroom and went to bed alone.
The next morning, before the sky turned bright, the silence in the bedroom was broken by a loud sneeze. Achoo!
The man was woken by his own sneeze. What followed was dizziness and exhaustion.
He frowned as he got off the bed. He headed to the living room and got some medicine from the first aid kit. He took some medication with warm water, but the dizziness did not go away. Instead, he started to have a runny nose.
He pulled a piece of tissue and wiped his nose.
Sebastian and Aunt Tonya were up watching him.
Aunt Tonya asked, “Odell, did you catch a cold? Why don't | call Dr. Lambert over?” “It's fine,” Odell answered with a heavy nasal voice before he headed upstairs. It was just a cold and he believed it was nothing serious.
Aunt Tonya and Sebastian exchanged a quick look but remained silent.
However, as soon as he set foot on the stairs, the dizziness assaulted his sight and the room started to spin. His strength was robbed and his muscles started to sore.
He managed to return to the room, but the thought of cleaning up faded. The dizziness made him want to stay in bed. He collapsed on the bed and rested until knocks came from the door.
Aunt Tonya‘ called him from the door. “Odell, time for breakfast.”
Odell opened his eyes and answered gruffly, “I'm not eating.”
Aunt Tonya heard the heavy nasal voice and frowned.” Okay.”
Odell woke up and grabbed his phone from the side to text Cliff. “I'm not coming in today. Call me if there is anything urgent.” Cliff texted back instantly, “Noted.”
Chapter 1354
Chapter 1354 The spacious bedroom returned to silence. Maybe because of the cold, he suddenly felt the chills. He wished his woman was by his side.
In the past few years, whenever he fell sick, she would be by his side, and he would feel better by hugging her warm and soft body. Now all he got was the icy cold air and emptiness by his side.
He sighed heavily and frowned.
It was then knocks came from the door again.
“Daddy!”
It was Flint.
Odell turned around.
The little guy opened the door and popped his head in to stare at his father with his googly eyes. “Daddy, are you sick?” The man‘s furrowed brows eased up. He answered, “I'm fine. Go down and play.” He caught a heavy cold, and it would be terrible if he passed it to Flint.
The little guy asked, “Are you okay? Do you want medication?”
“It's okay. Go play.”
Flint nodded and hummed a reply before he left.
Awhile later, Aunt Tonya came up with warm water and some herbal tea. She put the tray by the bed and said, “ Odell, | made some herbal tea for you. Drink it and you'll feel better.”
Odell‘s frosty expression warmed up a little. “Thank you.” Aunt Tonya then left.
Odell got up and drained the herbal tea to the last drop. Despite the annoyance and irritation, there was no reason for him to treat his body poorly.
He felt a lot better after the tea. Since he regained some strength, he washed up and planned to do some work in the study room.
However, as soon as he sat down at the desk, his head started to spin again. He had not even turned on the computer, and the cold robbed him of his concentration.
He pursed his lips and reluctantly lay down on the couch. The day went by in the blink of an eye. Odell slept until evening but still showed no signs of recovery.
The door opened, and several sets of footsteps came in. Suddenly, Odell felt a tiny hand on his forehead and the warmth it carried. The hand lingered for a second before another hand touched his forehead.
He frowned and opened his eyes.
Flint, who was the third in line to put his hand on his father's forehead, got startled and nervously pulled his hand back. He even hid behind his brother and sister.
Odell looked at the three of them.
Liam and Isabel guiltily pursed their lips as if they were caught red-handed. “What are you three doing?” he asked. Isabel said, “We're here to see if you've gotten better.” His frosty expression softened. He helplessly said, “I'm having a cold, not a fever.” All three of them came to touch his forehead.
“Daddy, are you better?” Flint asked.
Odell said, “Yeah. | feel better now.”
“But you don't sound like it,” Flint continued with his question.
Liam and Isabel looked at him. With the same expression, Odell said, “I'll feel better after some rest. You guys should go out.”
The three of them remained still as a rock.
Odell frowned and put on an even stricter expression.“ Heard what | said?”
Isabel pouted while Flint hummed a reply.
The two of them followed Liam outside. Odell sighed. He got up and headed to the desk. He felt a lot better than he had in the afternoon, so it was time for him to settle some work.
Chapter 1355
Chapter 1355 The three of them left the study room and headed back to their game room.
Flint sat down in front of Liam and grabbed his brother’s phone to send a voice message to the chat group with their mother. “Mommy, what are you doing?”
Isabel sat down beside them and went on the chat group using her phone.
In less than a minute, Sylvia’s reply came in. “Mommy is still outside with two other teachers.”
Maybe because Flint’s sulky tone caught her attention, she asked, “What happened? Did Daddy scold you guys again?” Flint pouted. “Daddy didn’t scold us. He’s sick.”
Both Liam and Isabel stared at the screen silently.
Sylvia replied, “Is he sick?”
Flint piped up, “Daddy caught a cold. It has been a whole day.”
“Oh, haha, a cold is nothing serious, but it might take a while to go away. Usually, it takes a week to fully recover. You guys don’t have to worry about him,” Sylvia replied.
Flint answered, “Okay. He actually wants you to come
back, but you sound like you don’t want to forgive him yet and don’t want to come back.”
Sylvia assured them, “You guys don’t have to worry. | have to go now. I'll send you guys a video in a day or two.” “Okay.” Flint then crawled into his brother’s arms and grumbled, “Brother, | miss Mommy. When is she coming back?”
Both Isabel and Liam furrowed their brows, seeming to be in a sulky mood. However, they were older than their little brother and refused to be childish.
“Mommy will come back when she forgives Daddy,
Liam said.
Isabel sighed. “Stupid Daddy, always making Mommy mad!”
Still, he looked miserable with the ongoing cold, and it broke their hearts.
A few rooms away, Odell was staring at the screen with a grim expression. He was looking at the texts that Sylvia sent to the chat group with the kids. She found out that he had a cold, but judging from the tone, she sounded happy.
Haha? It was fine if she did not want to care about him, but ‘haha “9
Odell’s expression turned even surlier. He picked up his phone and called her, but the call was declined. He was still on her blacklist.
Disheartened, he got up and headed out. He strode to the living room in the blink of an eye.
Aunt Tonya was chatting with Madam Carter in the living room. When they saw Odell come down with a grumpy look, they were both scared.
Odell looked at Aunt Tonya. “Aunt Tonya, lend me your phone.”
Aunt Tonya hesitated for a moment before she reluctantly gave up her phone. She could not help but said, “Odell, try to speak nicely to Syl. Don’t always be like an angry bull.”
Odell grabbed the phone and headed outside the living room.
Both Aunt Tonya and Madam Carter sighed.
Outside the door, Odell called Sylvia using Aunt Tonya’s phone.
The dial tone rang.
Odell was trying his best to suppress his rising anger, but the call did not get through in the end. Instead, it was declined. His expression turned frosty. He called again but was declined once more. Had she figured out that it was him and not Aunt Tonya?
Ding!
Atext came from Aunt Tonya’s social media account.
Odell tapped on it and saw the text.
“Aunt Tonya, | can’t talk right now. What’s the matter?”
Odell replied, “Your man is dying from a cold. When are you coming back?” Half a minute later, the reply came in. “Tell me when he’s really dead.”
Odell was silenced. He choked on his anger and wanted to smash the phone into pieces. He replied, “Sylvia, you have one day to come back. If you don’t come back by tomorrow, you don’t need to come back forever!”
