Ch. 1356..1360
Chapter 1356
Chapter 1356 Ding!
Sylvia replied, “I go wherever my legs take me, and | will come back whenever | feel like it. It won’t work even if you give me another hundred days.”
Odell choked on his reply. “You’re abandoning the kids?”
“Stop using the kids to threaten me. If you stop me from coming back, I'll tell Grandmother to throw you out of the house!” Probably because his anger had taken over his sanity, he chuckled coldly and tapped on the screen furiously.
“Sylvia, you’ve gotten so audacious, haven't you? Have | been too lenient with you in the past few years?”
“Hmph! Odell, | think it was | who has been too lenient with you. Do you really think I’m afraid of you?”
Odell chuckled. “Really? If you’re not afraid of me, come back tomorrow! I'd like to find out how you are being lenient on me!” “Stop trying to provoke me! I’m not an idiot like you! | don’t want to go back. | like seeing you mad!”
Odell was silenced. His body was petrified for a few seconds before he continued tapping on the screen. “
Send me your address right now.”
“Don't even think about it.”
“Don’t dare to send me your address? Are you afraid that | might come to you?”
“Hmph! I’m not afraid of you, you jerk!”
Odell clenched his teeth and tapped on the recording button. He bellowed, “Are you coming back or not!?”
The text failed to send. It seemed like Sylvia had blocked him, or rather, Aunt Tonya’s number. His towering figure froze and his expression turned frighteningly pale.
The woman blocked Aunt Tonya’s number just because she refused to talk to him!
Did she hate him that much?!
Or had she forgotten that he was the husband and got carried away by the temptation of the outside world?
Awhile later, he pulled his own phone from his pocket and called Cliff. The call got through in an instant. He shouted, “Find her!”
Cliff was shocked by the sudden shout. Stunned, he quickly recovered his composure and asked in a small voice, “Sir, find who?”
Odell’s sight suddenly turned blurry. Dizziness assaulted his ‘mind again and fueled his anger. He pursed his lips and said coldly, “Send some men to the airport and train
terminals. If you see Sylvia, don’t let her into the city!”
Cliff said, “Sir, did you have an argument with Mrs. Carter again?” “Cut the crap and do what | said!”
Cliff dared not talk back to his boss. He nodded and said, Yes, sir.” He then glared at Ben, who was on duty at the gate.
Ben caught the ferocious glare and nervously stood straight with his chest up.
Odell shouted, “Get over here!” Ben ran over and carefully asked, “Sir, what’s the matter?”
“Arrange some men to stay guard at the street entrance. Starting from tomorrow, if any one of you sees Sylvia, stop her and do not let her come near the house!”
Ben carefully stared at the raging monster and nodded. “ Yes, sir.” He then turned around to carry out the order.
“Wait!”
Ben turned around once more and asked, “Yes, sir? What is it?”
Odell coldly said, “Send some men to Isabel and Liam’s school as well. Don’t let her get near them!”
“Yes, sir,” Ben answered meekly.
Odell grunted coldly before he returned to the house.
Aunt Tonya and Madam Carter stared at him. They pursed their lips in silence when they heard Odell shouting outside the door.
Odell put Aunt Tonya’s phone on the tea table and then strode back to his room. His head was heavy, his feet were cold, and he had a runny nose. He already felt better after a whole day of rest, but the anger suddenly made his cold worse.
Chapter 1357
At the same time in a hospital in a distant city, Sylvia was sitting on the bench with a saline infusion. The transparent tube with the needle was poked into the back of her hand.
Her brows furrowed as she leaned back feebly.
Maybe because they failed to acclimatize to the local environment, Ms. Kang, Ms. Johnson, and herself caught a fever when they arrived yesterday. Other than the fever, there were symptoms of a cold as well.
Her head was heavy while her body felt weak and everything felt terrible. She could not even speak properly with her coarse voice. She could not even think straight when she received a text from Flint.
In order to not expose her condition to her kids, she texted back and told them she could not talk at the moment.
To her surprise, after she put the phone down, she received a call from Aunt Tonya’s number. She did not want Aunt Tonya to worry, so she texted back and informed the same.
Then, she received a text in the rudest tone. “Your man is dying. When are you coming back?”
She knew at first glance it was Odell. She was exhausted after arguing with him for so long, so in order to have peace of mind, she blocked Aunt Tonya’s number to keep the man from annoying her.
The man must be exploding with anger.
However, he was at home with Aunt Tonya, Madam Carter, Sebastian, and the kids, so probably nothing would happen. The thought calmed her mind as she sighed and closed her eyes.
Odell stayed home for two more days.
It had been snowing in Westchester for the past two days, and similar to the snowy weather, his mind had been blank and dizzy for as long as he still caught a cold. He did not even have the mood to take his medication.
Aunt Tonya and Sebastian took turns delivering the medicine to him, but he tossed them away. Even the three little rascals were stopped outside the door. It was Madam Carter who scolded some sense into him.
Only then he took two pills to treat his condition. Unfortunately, his face was still pale and his mood remained sour, even more so when he asked Cliff and Ben
about Sylvia, and both of them informed him that they did not see Sylvia at any terminals or stops.
Evening, his mind had finally regained some clarity after being dizzy for two days. He also regained a portion of his strength. He called Cliff and then Ben, but he got the same reply.
“Sir, we still don’t have any news about the madam.”
Odell’s expression turned grim. He angrily kicked the little drawer by the desk to vent his expression. He then grabbed his coat and went downstairs. He borrowed Sebastian’s phone to text Sylvia and tossed it back when he was done.
He put on his coat, and his frosty expression was apparent as he strode outside. His towering figure soon disappeared in the chilly weather.
Meanwhile, in a city far away, Sylvia went to the hospital alone. She was still having a fever, hence the multiple visits.
Both Ms. Johnson and Ms. Kang wanted to accompany her, but they were here for a vacation, so she did not want them to waste time at the hospital because of her.
Her legs were weak. As soon as she sat down on the bed, she received a text on her phone.
She pulled it out and saw Sebastian’s text. “Sylvia, you've really done it! Don’t even bother to come back now. If you dare to come back, I'll show you!”
It was Odell texting her with Sebastian’s phone.
She could already picture the man’s expression when she read the text. She sighed feebly and pocketed her phone after another glance. She could not do anything about the man’s anger right now, and she planned to go back after she recovered.
She believed he would not do anything to her even if she really went back.
Chapter 1358 In Westchester City, Odell headed to the office as soon as he left home. He strode into the lobby with a frosty look.
The employees and the front desk noticed the look on his face and knew their boss was having a bad day again. No one dared to even make a noise around him.
Odell strode into the elevator without looking at anyone, including Shermaine who was within the crown.
Shermaine frowned in his direction. ‘He did not even look at me? Why is he in such a foul mood? Is it because of that stupid woman again?’
Odell headed to his office and cleared all the work that has been stacked up for the past two days. During lunch, the new secretary knocked on the door and delivered the lunchbox for him.
The secretary nervously asked, “Sir, it’s lunchtime.”
Odell glanced and hummed a reply.
The secretary turned and wanted to leave.
“Hold on.”
The secretary immediately asked, “Yes, sir? Is there anything else?”
“Inform both the director and assistant director of the business development division to come to meet me in an hour,” he said coldly and then started eating.
The secretary nodded. “Noted, sir.”
Odell started eating, but when his mind went idle, he started to think about Sylvia who had left home for so long. Frowning, he frustratedly called Sebastian.
Sebastian answered the phone right away. “Sir, what is it?”
Odell asked, “Did Sylvia reply after | left?”
Sebastian answered in a small voice, “No sir. Not yet.”
Odell’s expression turned grim. He hung up the phone and suddenly lost his appetite. He grabbed the desk phone to call the secretary outside. “Tell the director and assistant director to come here right now.”
The secretary answered, “I'll inform them right away.”
Awhile later, the director and the assistant director of the business development division arrived at his office. Both of them cautiously entered and approached the man’s desk.
Odell stared at them expressionlessly. He then slammed a pile of documents in front of them, frightening the two of them.
“This is the proposal that you two came up with?” he asked.
The two of them answered nervously, “Sir, we’re so sorry. We'll amend it right away.” Odell pursed his lips coldly. “Bring your laptops here and amend them here!” The two of them went pale. Making amendments in front of their boss would be like working in front of a guillotine!
The assistant director said, “S—Sir, you're busy, and we don’t want to disturb you with our work. We'll go back and amend them, and then send them to you.”
Odell glared at him. “What's the matter? Afraid of me watching you two make amendments?” “N-No, sir... | didn’t mean it...” “Then, get out and bring your laptops here!”
The two of them scuttled like rats escaping a cat and then returned with their laptops. They sat down on the couch and started amending the proposal.
Odell sat behind his desk with his arms crossed, watching them fiercely.
The intense session lasted until the afternoon.
Chapter 1359 Only until the two directors perfected the proposal were they released from the torment of their boss. The spacious office returned to dead silence once more while the sun shone through the window warmly.
His frustrated expression basked in the warm sunlight. He pulled his phone out and tried to call Sylvia, but he could not get through. He tried texting as well, but the message failed to send.
Bam!
He slammed the phone on the table and then called Cliff using the desk phone. “Inform all the division directors to gather at the main meeting room in ten minutes! Tell them to prepare reports for this week‘s progress. | want to know how things are progressing.”.
Judging from the tone, Cliff could tell his boss was having a sour mood again and was trying to vent his emotions on the directors. He answered in a small voice, “Yes, sir. I'll inform them right away.” After the call, Cliff messaged all the division directors.
One of the directors who was closer to Cliff privately messaged him. “Assistant Bogard, this meeting is a little too rushed, isn't it? | just ran into Director Nickman from
the BD division and he was drenched! His shirt was soaked in his own sweat, and he was trying to clean up in the toilet. He told me Master Carter almost scared him to death. Is it because he’s having a bad day and wants to vent it on us?”
“He's just having a regular meeting. If you guys are doing your work properly, he won't do anything to you,” Cliff answered. In other words, those who slacked off would suffer the wrath of an angry Odell. The regular weekly meeting lasted for almost three hours.
Odell berated almost half of the directors before ending the meeting. He sat in the main seat as he scanned over the other directors who were trembling.
“Dismissed.”
The directors sighed a long breath as though they were released from torment.
Odell strode back to his office. It was already 7 o'clock in the evening, and the sky was already dark.
He put the documents down and picked up his coat.
Then, the new secretary knocked on the door and asked, ” Sir, do you want to order dinner?”
“No need.”
Odell went out with his coat hanging over his hand. He took the elevator straight to the basement parking lot.
Most of the employees had gone home by this hour, so there was barely anyone in the parking lot. He went to his car and then spotted a figure standing next to it.
Under the light, the young woman wore a plain coat coupled with a pair of leather boots. Her hair was tied high up and her bangs framed the front of her forehead, revealing a clean and delicate face. She wore a faint smile on her face, appearing rather sweet.
Odell was slightly surprised. “What is it?”
Shermaine switched her sweet expression to a worried one. “Sir, | heard from Assistant Bogard that you fell sick in the past two days. Are you feeling better now?”
“I'm feeling good,” he answered. Shermaine stood there and continued, “I heard you scolded a lot of the directors at the meaning. Are you having a bad day?” “I’m feeling fine.” “Is it because you argued with your wife again?”
Odell frowned. His expression turned grim and said deeply, “If theres nothing else, move aside.” He was not in the mood for idle chatter.
Shermaine's eyes flickered nervously, and she quickly
stepped aside. Odell headed to the car and opened it. It was then that he felt a grip around his waist as a pair of hands hugged him from the back.
It was Shermaine.
He froze and then furrowed his brows harder.
Shermaine said meekly, “You don't have to lie to me. | know you're feeling down, and it must be terrible for you as of late.” Odell‘'s expression turned cold and grim.
She added, “I know you argued with your wife because you want to protect me. I'm sorry, it's my fault. | should have asked for the transfer earlier, but | couldn't help myself. | don‘t want to leave you, and it hurts to see you this mad every day. | don’t want you to be like this.“
Chapter 1360 After her meek voice subsided, the man’s cold voice erupted. “Take your hands off me!”
The coldest tone with the harshest words from his lips shocked Shermaine, but she tightened her hug. A perfect man like him must want to protect his family and be a responsible father, hence he asked her to take her hands off him.
She added, “Master Carter, | don't want to ruin your family. | am not asking for a title. | just want to share your burden. Let me be by your side.”
The parking lot fell into dead silence all of a sudden. Then, a powerful hand pulled both her hands off him and pushed her away.
Shermaine was caught off guard by the sudden shove. She staggered a few steps backward before she lost her balance and fell to the ground with a thud. The light shed its brilliance on her pale white face. She widened her eyes in disbelief.
“Master Carter...”
Odell turned around with the coldest stare.
Shermaine‘s heart skipped a beat under his glare. The words she prepared to say were all stuck in her throat. Odell glared at her with the sharpest gaze. Several seconds of silence later, he asked, “So, you like me?” Shermaine did not expect the question from him given how grim his expression was.
Her face regained the blush as she looked at him with her big eyes. She meekly said, “No woman would dislike a perfect man like you. | know you're married, but | can't control myself. | don‘t want to ruin your family. | just want to stay by your side and share your burden. Even if | don't get a title for the rest of my life, I'm fine with it.”
Her eyes teared up as her expression screamed of infatuation. She believed no man could resist her soft and understanding gaze, especially a man who was in an argument with his stupid wife.
Amoment later, the grim expression on the man‘s face reverted back to his usual cold look. Although expressionless, he looked much better compared to when he pushed her away.
Then, he said, “Stay away from me, and don't even let me see you again.” Shermaine's heart sank and her face turned as pale as a sheet.
Odell got into the car and quickly left the parking lot.
Shermaine clenched her fists in disbelief and anger.
He left just like that! Did he not have any feelings for her?
No. It should not be. She had hugged him, and given his ruthless attitude, if he really disliked her, he would have fired her on the spot instead of telling her to stay away from him. This must be his first time getting into an affair with another woman, and it must be difficult for him to accept her in a hurry.
The thought calmed her down. She regained her composure and got to her feet as she watched the MPV drive away from her sight in a grievance.
In the end, the grudge on her face was replaced by determined ambition. She liked him, and she swore she would make him feel the same!
The black MPV drove out of the parking lot and merged into the traffic on the road. The man sat alone in the rear seat, staring into the void blankly with a sulky face. The driver carefully steered the car so as not to disturb the man.
In the passenger seat, Cliff glanced into the rearview mirror to check on the man‘s expression. Deep down, he was shaken. Even now, he could not believe what he had just seen back in the parking lot.
He and the driver had been waiting for their boss in the car after the meeting ended.
Shermaine had arrived two minutes later than them. She did not notice Cliff in the car and was touching up her makeup using her little cosmetics purse.
Just when Cliff wanted to roll the window down, he saw her working on her makeup and intentionally pulling her bangs forward. He felt something was off, so he stayed quiet and simply watched from inside the car.
To his surprise, he witnessed something that shocked him.
