Ch. 1506..1510
Chapter 1506
Sherry’s gaze shifted, but did not make a noise.
Both Matthew and Janine reacted poorly and their guilt made them lower their heads together.
“Though | hope that the two of you won’t appear before Sherry again. Or else I'll be mad,” John said to them with frosty eyes. Sherry’s eyes gleamed.
Something must have gotten wrong with the man for defending her in front of her parents.
Matthew answered immediately, “I understand. We won't be disturbing Sherry anymore.”
Janine remained awkward and quiet, and when Matthew was done talking, she followed him out of the room. The two of them soon disappeared beyond the gates.
Sherry got up and planned to go back to Caprice.
“You guys should come out as well,” John said as he looked beyond Sherry.
Sherry was slightly stunned. She followed his gaze and looked behind her.
There was only one door dividing the living room and the
room, and after John’s words subsided, the door opened. Julie and Madam Stockton came out.
Julie cautiously said, “John, please don’t get mad. It’s not Mother’s fault. | heard Mr. and Mrs. Fowler were looking for Ms. Fowler, so | took the liberty of bringing them here.”
Madam Stockton immediately said, “Julie, he heard everything outside. You don’t need to put all the blame on yourself.” She then looked at John, “I brought them here so that they would persuade Sherry to leave you.”
John frowned coldly. “Mother, have you forgotten what I’ve told you the other day?” The frostiness on his face was brazen. He was truly mad.
Madam Stockton averted his gaze out of guilt, but soon the anger rushed to her mind. She glared at Sherry and said, “I don’t like her. | can’t even bear looking at her for another second. If you are not happy about it, just send me away!”
John’s gaze turned cold. Julie quickly intervened and said, “Mother, please don’t say that.”
Sherry was beside them as they argued. She did not expect that the mother and son would bicker because of her. Besides, she had agreed to marry the man out of contract, so there was no reason for him to be so protective of her.
“Um, why don’t you guys calm down and talk this out? I'll excuse myself,” Sherry said and was about to escape
the room.
An arm grabbed her and pulled her into a strong embrace.
By the time Sherry realized it, she was already in John’s
arms.
John hugged her tightly. She could not break free using her strength alone, so all she could do was stand there stiffly.
John stared at his mother with curved lips. He smiled warmly and said, “Mother, | wouldn’t dare send you away. Please don’t be mad. I'll tell the maids to pack right away so that Sherry and Caprice can live outside. You don’t have to see them again.”
As soon as his words subsided, he turned around and walked out with Sherry. Madam Stockton became anxious hearing his words. She went after her son and said, “John, that’s not what | mean. | want her to leave you, not for you to bring Caprice away.’
John paused his feet and answered coldly, “Caprice and | will go wherever she is. If you want her to leave, Caprice and | will leave as well.”
Madam Stockton’s face was thick with grief. “That’s not what | meant!”
John ignored her and brought Sherry to his car.
The silver MPV then drove off along the main avenue.
Madam Stockton could not stand there and do nothing: She quickly got into the cart and told the driver to go after John. “Drive! Follow them!”
Julie quickly got into the cart as well. Her brows were tightly locked while her eyes were filled with annoyance and jealousy. It was quiet inside the car.
After Sherry was dragged in, her eyes never left the man. His fair skin, handsome looks, and the golden -framed glasses that set off his elegance... Everything was so characteristic of the man that always gave her a headache.
Had she not listened to the words herself, she would never have expected John to argue with his mother because of her.
Chapter 1507
Chapter 1507 It was like nine years ago when he ditched his identity as the heir to the Stockton Corporation for her. Astrange emotion erupted in her heart.
Sherry tried to pull her hand away from his grip, but it only got tighter. She looked at him and said in a small voice, “John, she’s your mother. You don’t need to talk to her like that because of me.”
He looked at her deeply. “Then, what should | do? Listen to her and chase you out of the house?” “That’s not what | mean. Just ignore her. We got married because of the contract anyway. | don’t mind.” Contract? She did not mind? Did she mean she did not
care about him as well?
John curved his lips. “Sherry, | am not as heartless as you think. Even though we got married because of the contract, you are still my wife. No one is allowed to mistreat you except me.”
He tightened his grip on her hand.
Sherry felt like her wrist was falling off. She pursed her lips but did not answer.
The car soon stopped in front of the yard.
Sherry was dragged out of the car.
The moment he entered the house, he said to the maids,” Go pack our clothes and Caprice’s things. We are moving, out tonight.”
The maids were stunned for a moment before they quickly went upstairs to start packing It was then that Madam Stockton and Julie arrived at the door, and they overhead John telling the maids to pack.
“John, | really didn’t mean it!” Madam Stockton was breathing heavily when she arrived at the door. She glared at Sherry and then said, “The only one that’s moving is her, not you and Caprice!”
Sherry pursed her lips. John’s expression turned frosty. He turned to Jason and said, “You go help too.” Jason immediately went inside.
Madam Stockton was furious. She pointed at Sherry and bellowed, “What did she say to you in the car? She must be slandering me behind my back again!”
Sherry was dumbfounded.
John’s frosty expression turned grim. “Mother, do you think they are packing a little too slowly?”
Madam Stockton’s expression changed, and she pursed
her lips helplessly.
At that point, Queenie came out with Caprice, who was still asleep.
Queenie asked, “Brother, what’s wrong? Why are you guys moving out?”
Before John or Sherry could say a word, Madam Stockton cried out in surprise, “Queenie?! What are you doing here?”
Queenie looked at her mother in confusion. “I’m here taking care of Caprice for Sherry and Brother. What's wrong?”
It was Madam Stockton’s turn to be stunned. She pointed at Sherry and said, “She let you take care of Caprice?” “I'm Caprice’s aunt, of course, | can take care of her,” Queenie said. She sounded bold and confident. Madam Stockton locked her brows tightly and then turned around to Julie.
Julie immediately wore an innocent look on her face as though she, too, had no idea that Sherry had placed Caprice in Queenie’s care.
Madam Stockton then turned back to Sherry with a complex gaze.
Sherry looked into the lady’s eyes boldly. Although she failed to understand why the lady would size her up with such a gaze, she did not back down.
Madam Stockton went silent.
She thought, “Is it because she placed Caprice in Queenie’s care, that’s why she didn’t give Caprice to Julie, and Julie failed to bring her to me?”
Queenie might have been close with Sherry, but she was one of the Stocktons and her own daughter. If Sherry could put Caprice with Queenie, it seemed like she was fine with them being together.
Judging from Julie's expression, it seemed like she did not know that Caprice was with Queenie.
Had she misunderstood Sherry?
Chapter 1508
Noticing the awkwardness in the air, Queenie asked, ” Mom, Brother, what's wrong? Did you guys argue?” John reached out to her. “I'll carry Caprice.”
His other hand continued to hold onto Sherry’s hand.
Queenie did not want to leave her adorable niece, but she let go anyway.
John then glanced at Aunt Wanda. “Aunt Wanda, after they are done packing, send the luggage to my car.” Aunt Wanda nodded. “Okay.”
John turned around and left with Caprice and Sherry. Madam Stockton said heavily, “It’s my fault! Okay?!” John stopped.
Madam Stockton noticed the pause and immediately rushed to the front to explain, “Don’t leave. Sherry doesn’t need to leave anymore. | won’t chase her away again. Is that okay?”
John’s gaze softened. He looked at Sherry. “Do you want to stay or leave?” Madam Stockton looked at Sherry as well. Sherry pursed her lips as she found herself at a crossroads.
Of course, she wanted to leave the nonsense behind and live with Caprice in a quiet place, but when she saw the anticipation in Madam Stockton’s eyes and Queenie’s eagerness, she knew that the two of them did not want John or Caprice to leave.
Besides, she did not plan on staying for long either, and if John had a fallout with his mother because of her, things would end badly.
Sherry said, “I'll stay.” John’s gaze shifted.
Madam Stockton sighed a breath of relief. She looked at Sherry differently after the answer as if she was glad that Sherry made the better choice.
“Yay!” Queenie squealed happily. Her sharp squeal woke Caprice.
The girl opened her eyes with furrowed brows.
John immediately glanced at his sister.
Queenie nervously covered her mouth with her hands.
Madam Stockton went up to the girl and stared at her adorable face with utmost infatuation. She wanted to hold her granddaughter, but John denied her.
“Mother, you're tired already. Why don’t you go back and rest?” He sounded cold. He was obviously still holding a grudge against his mother for trying to chase Sherry out
of the house.
Madam Stockton knew his son’s temper well enough. She nodded and said, “I'll go now. You and Caprice should rest early too.” John curved his lips. “We know.”
Madam Stockton gazed into Caprice’s eyes deeply before she left.
After Madam Stockton left, Julie came over. “John, | didn’t handle the matter well. | should have talked Mother out of it.”
John answered coldly, “Just go back.”
Julie puckered her lips as she turned around with a sour look.
He then headed into the house with Caprice and Sherry.
Queenie wanted to follow them inside, but John stopped her as well.
“You. Go back.”
Queenie pouted. She looked at Sherry pitifully.
Sherry then said, “It’s dinner time soon. Queenie will be alone even if she goes back. Why don’t we have her over for dinner?” John looked at her.
Sherry smiled back.
John curved his lips and said, “Fine.”
Queenie widened her lips into a grin. She said, “Brother, can I play with Caprice for a little longer?”
John then put Caprice in her arms, and she brought Caprice back to the room.
Sherry still could not wrap her head around what just happened. She did not expect the man to be so easygoing this time. She thought he would deny Queenie’s request.
In addition to his leniency, he even defended her against Matthew and Janine and dealt with Madam Stockton once and for all.
Everything the man did today was out of the blue.
Chapter 1509
She thought he hated her.
If so, why would he treat her like this? Was it because she became his wife?
Then, she realized he was still holding her hand. She tugged it and said in a small voice, “No one is here anymore. You can let go of my hand now.”
John looked down at her hand. He loosened his grip but did not fully release her. He rubbed the back of her hand with his thumb. The ticklish feeling caused Sherry to pull her hand back immediately.
John curved his lips. “Soft hands.”
Sherry playfully glared at him. “Sure, my hands are soft compared to yours.*
The moment her words subsided, she felt a warm sensation across her face as he stroked her face. Sherry widened her eyes at him.
The man curved his lips wider into an enchanting smile and said, “Indeed, they’re quite soft.” Sherry was left speechless. She choked on her
embarrassment. Out of instinct, she raised her hand and
moved towards his face.
To her surprise, he did not move or dodge.
Her hand touched his face, and it left her stunned.
He did not dodge? He did not try to catch her hand?
However, since she already had her hand on his face, it was even more embarrassing to just take it back. Her expression changed as she softly pinched the man’s cheek.
She quickly retracted her hand and said with a raised brow, “Rough.”
John narrowed his eyes dangerously.
Sherry’s gaze shifted. “I'll go have a look at Caprice.”
With those words, she strode inside as if she was escaping
a monster.
John watched her as he softly touched his cheek, where she pinched him, and grinned. Madam Stockton continued to sulk in her room after she
returned home.
It was Julie who talked to her and persuaded her to have dinner.
However, she only took a few spoons before losing her
appetite completely.
Worried, Julie looked at her and said, “Mother, you must at least fill your stomach. Why don’t you eat a little more?” “| lost my appetite. | don’t want to eat.”
Madam Stockton wiped her mouth with the towel. She looked rather tired under the lights, seemingly troubled by her own thoughts.
Julie continued, “Mother, it’s over. John is not moving out, so why not just let it go?”
Madam Stockton sighed. She looked at Julie and said, Julie, was | wrong? Calling her parents to persuade her to leave John...” Julie immediately said, “Mother, you are doing this for John. We just did not expect John to treat Ms. Fowler this well.”
“Hmph! He must have fallen under her spell,” Madam Stockton grumbled.
Julie sighed. “Ms. Fowler is beautiful and is now the influential figure at the Sagers. She’s capable, and it's only natural that John would fall for her.”
Madam Stockton scoffed. “Capable? She’s a vixen! God knows how she got her current position at the Sagers.”
“Mother, please don’t say that. Maybe she’s really
(
capable.”
“If she’s capable, why is she at our house? She’s trying to get her claws into John!”
Julie ran out of words to continue, so she pursed her lips silently.
In the next moment, a clear voice came from outside the door.
“Mom, Sherry isn’t who you think she is. She married Brother because of Caprice.”
It was Queenie who had spoken.
Madam Stockton’s expression changed and she glared at her daughter. “How do you know she did it for Caprice? Did she tell you that?”
“| can tell even if she doesn’t speak a word. If she wants to get close to Brother, she wouldn't have tried to escape three years ago,” Queenie said as she protruded her lips.
The incident from three years ago left Madam Stockton speechless. Julie then said to Queenie, “Queenie, Mother is not in the mood right now. Don’t talk to her about that.” “Julie, | Know she’s not in the mood, but it was her who started it first. She’s wrong.”
Madam Stockton glared at the girl. “You little rascal, what did you say?!”
Chapter 1510
Julie’s eyes gleamed but she said, “Mother, please calm down. That’s not what Queenie meant.”
Madam Stockton was furious. “If that’s not what she
means, then what does it mean? She’s like her brother. They’ve been enchanted by that woman!”
Queenie furrowed her brows. She was not here to argue with her mother. She was here to try to explain the situation.
Sherry came back after all these years, and her brother finally regained his smile, so she really hoped that nothing would happen to the family again.
She took a deep breath and sat down beside her mother. She held her mother’s hand and said, “Mom, | know I’m not smart, but Brother is a smart man. How could he be enchanted by Sherry that easily?”
It was the first time Madam Stockton heard her daughter comforting her. The surprise somehow calmed her down.
Queenie noticed her mother calming down, so she continued, “Mom, Brother and Sherry are already married, so just stop trying to break them up. Okay?”
Madam Stockton frowned. Even though she disliked Sherry, John protected her well, and it rendered her helpless. She glanced at Queenie and said, “I know. | don’t need a little rascal like you to remind me.” Queenie curved her lips into a bright smile.
Madam Stockton finally smiled when she saw the girl trying to please her with all kinds of flattery.
Julie captured their little interaction with her sharp gaze and it somehow turned cold.
Fools!
A bunch of fools!
Back at Sherry and John’s place, Sherry and Caprice went to the room to play after dinner.
Maybe because the girl had too much fun during the day, she rarely moved despite being awake.
Sherry sat beside her and read her stories.
Caprice was captivated by the stories and she even asked questions from time to time. Sherry answered every question wholeheartedly.
The girl finally fell asleep around midnight and she leaned into her mother’s arms. John had not yet come over. Asudden thought rushed into her mind, driving her to carry Caprice into her room and locking it.
The lights were switched off, and she quickly went to bed with the little girl. The baby scent on the girl easily put her to sleep after awhile.
It was then that the man’s slender figure came out from the study room.
When he walked past Caprice’s room, he noticed that there was no one inside. His gaze slightly shifted. He then headed to Sherry’s room, but the door was closed.
He put his hand on the handle, but it was locked from the
inside.
“Hmph.” The woman must have locked herself inside to sleep with Caprice. Agrin appeared on the man’s face as he turned around to the other room.
When Sherry opened her eyes the next day, she saw the man on the bed, who was but one Caprice away from her. Her eyes widened immediately as she sat up.
The man did not have his glasses on, and his bewitching gaze locked onto her. “Morning,” he said deeply.
Sherry looked at him. “How did you get in?”
“| walked in.”
Sherry looked at the door. It was still locked, and the drawer that she had moved behind the door to prevent him from coming in was still there.
How did the man come in? Did he phase through the wall?
Sherry frowned at him. “Where did you come in from?” “Why don’t you take a guess?”
