Ch. 1591..1595
Chapter 1591
Chapter 1591 She had been planning to take Caprice away while he was away from home!
John hung up the phone and said to Peter, “Peter, contact the two main airports in Glenchester and tell them my daughter has been kidnapped by a human trafficker. They are leaving on a plane, so tell them to seal all the exits and entrances. If they see Caprice or Sherry, save Caprice and apprehend Sherry!”
He shouted the last sentence due to his anger. Peter nervously said, “Yes, sir! I'll contact them right away!” John propped his forehead on his hand.
After Peter made the necessary calls, he said, “Sir, I’ve contacted the airports and sent them Ms. Fowler and Ms. Caprice’s pictures. Once they go near the airports, they will be apprehended.”
“Mm-hmm...” John’s grim expression looked slightly relieved. Then, he added, “Clear the schedule for today. Book a ticket back to Glenchester right away.”
Peter cautiously glanced at his boss’s terrible expression and said in a small voice,” Yes, sir.”
Meanwhile, Madam Stockton’s car had just left the residential area of the Stocktons. She had seen Sherry’s car before, and in order to better locate the car, she sat in the passenger’s seat and glued her eyes on the road.
Unfortunately, she did not spot a single car along the way.
The residential area was secluded, and there were only so many cars that would appear on the road leading there. It had been a while since she left the house, and she still did not spot a single car.
She got anxious as she was worried that she might lose Sherry’s car. “Drive faster!” she bellowed at the driver.
Since there were no cars on the road, the driver sped up.
Ding!
Suddenly, Madam Stockton’s phone rang.
It was Emerance, her loyal maid.
Madam Stockton answered the phone immediately.
“Madam, I’ve found Wanda and Jason. They said Ms. Fowler told them to take a day off, but Wanda heard that Ms. Fowler was bringing Ms. Caprice out alone, and Jason said she was going out without Ms. Caprice. She even said she would take Ms. Caprice to Ms. Queenie’s place.”
Madam Stockton’s expression turned grim. “She's trying to divert their attention! She doesn’t want them following her!” Emerance sighed. “I’m afraid so.”
It was then that the driver cried out loud.
Startled, Madam Stockton looked at him. “What’s wrong!?”
“There’s a car ahead of us, Madam!”
Madam Stockton looked up and saw a truck heading towards them. Her expression turned grim as she shouted, “Stop the car!”
The driver’s face turned pale. “T—the brakes are not working!” “WHAT?!” Madam Stockton glanced at the driver's foot.
The driver pumped the brakes repeatedly, but the car continued sprinting without any signs of slowing down. They were a few seconds away from crashing into the truck.
“TURN! TURN AWAY!” Madam Stockton shouted.
The driver immediately steered away.
The truck driver on the other side was aware of the situation, and he nervously steered away too. Screech!
Madam Stockton’s car grazed the truck by a few millimeters.
Just when Madam Stockton thought that they had escaped the imminent danger, she realized that they were heading towards a massive tree.
“Aaaaaargh!” she screamed.
The driver failed to react in time, and the car crashed into the tree.
Chapter 1592
The tree leaves rustled as the car caught fire.
It was then that another white MPV passed by from the other side.
Caprice widened her eyes and pointed outside the window. “Mommy, the car is on fire!”
Sherry looked outside the window and spotted the burning car. The more she looked at it, the more familiar the car looked. “Brandon! Stop the car! Stop the car!” she cried.
Brandon stopped the car by the roadside.
Sherry put Caprice aside and patted her head. “Caprice, be a good girl and stay here.”
Caprice nodded and hummed a reply.
Sherry then looked at Brandon. “Brandon, open the trunk, and call 911! Keep an eye out for Caprice as well!”
Brandon immediately suggested, “Sherry, the car is already burning! Why don’t you leave it to the authorities? It’s not safe! What if the car explodes?!”
“Stop talking nonsense and open the trunk!”
Sherry got out of the car immediately.
Brandon opened the trunk for her, and she took the fire extinguisher out. She ran to the burning car without further delay. There was no other car on the road other than hers, and if she waited for the
authorities, the burning car might either explode or the people inside might already be dead.
She approached the car, turned on the fire extinguisher, and sprayed it forward.
Fortunately, the fire was not that strong and was extinguished after a while.
Then, Sherry spotted Madam Stockton and the driver inside the car. Both of them were unconscious with blood trickling from their foreheads.
The door was badly damaged, and she could not open it with her bare hands. She started to pound on the handle with the fire extinguisher.
Then, she bent over to release Madam Stockton’s seatbelt and dragged the lady out. While she was dragging Madam Stockton out, the lady opened her eyes. “Sherry? How? Why? Where’s Caprice?”
Sherry dragged Madam Stockton to a safe spot and said, “Caprice is in the car. She’s fine. Hold on, the ambulance will be here soon!”
Either Madam Stockton was heavily injured or Sherry’s words calmed her down, but her eyes closed as she passed out.
Sherry dared not move her around anymore. She ran back to the car and dragged the heavily injured driver out as well.
After rescuing the two of them, Sherry’s strength was drained. She collapsed on the ground beside the driver and Madam Stockton.
Finally, the police arrived. They checked on Sherry and she told them what happened.
The ambulance arrived shortly after that. The paramedics brought the stretcher over and carried both Madam Stockton and the driver into the ambulance.
Sherry followed them into the ambulance in concern. Her brows were furrowed tightly as she found this all too coincidental and odd.
Madam Stockton should be resting at home after breakfast. Why would she be out here and get into a car crash? Regardless, the reasons no longer mattered. What mattered the most was Madam Stockton’s well-being.
The ambulance arrived at the hospital shortly after.
The doctor who attended to Madam Stockton and the driver looked nervous. He
cried as soon as they were brought out of the ambulance, “Bring them to the ER right away!”
Chapter 1593
Chapter 1593 The paramedics swiftly admitted Madam Stockton and the driver to the Emergency Department. Sherry was held off at the entrance. She stood by the wall and called John.
For some reason, she could not reach him and it showed that he had turned off his phone. She tried calling him a few times but still could not reach him, so she decided to call Queenie instead.
The call got through in a second. Queenie’s clear voice sounded on the other end of the call, “Sherry, why are you calling me this early? Are you going out again?”
Sherry took a deep breath and said, “Queenie, listen to me carefully. Your mother got into a car crash.” “WHAT?!” Queenie screamed.
“| saw a burning car by the roadside, and it was your mother’s car.”
“Where is she now?” Queenie asked in a trembling voice.
“She has just been admitted into the ER at Glenmarie Hospital.”
“I'm on my way!”
The call ended.
i
Sherry tried calling John again but still could not get through.
‘He might be busy working,’ she thought.
Sherry put the phone away and leaned back against the wall. She planned to call him again after a while. Back at Stockton Residence, Queenie ran to the gate after receiving the call from Sherry. Her car was parked in the garage. Before she could get into the car, however, Julie came in and stopped her.
“Queenie, what’s the hurry?” she asked out of curiosity.
Queenie’s eyes got teary and she said, “Julie, Mom's been in a car crash!”
Julie’s eyes flickered. She then showed a horrified look and said, “Mother went after Sherry earlier. How did she get into a car crash!?”
Confused, Queenie asked, “Why was she going after Sherry? It was Sherry who informed me that she got into a crash!” Julie’s expression shifted once more. “Sherry told you? How did she know Mother was in a car crash?”
Queenie cried, “She said she saw Mom’s car burning by the roadside.”
Julie’s brows furrowed.
Sherry should have been running away with Caprice. How did she spot Madam Stockton’s burning car by the roadside?
“Julie, let’s go to the hospital right now! She’s at Glenmarie!” Queenie dragged Julie into the car right away. Julie nodded and followed to find out what happened.
Their house was quite far away from Glenmarie Hospital. Along the way, Julie tried consoling Queenie by saying, “Queenie, don’t worry. Mother will be safe.”
Queenie snorted. She did not want to think about the worst. Then, she thought of Julie’s words from earlier. “Julie, you said Mom was chasing after Sherry. What did you mean by that?”
Julie sighed. “Actually, Mia passed by your brother's place this morning and saw Sherry sending Aunt Wanda and Jason away. Then, she got into the car with Caprice and two backpacks. | found it strange, so | told Mother about it. Mother believed Sherry was kidnapping Caprice to Coastrock, so she went after her.”
Queenie frowned. “So, you’re saying Mom got into a car crash because she was chasing Sherry?”
Julie said in a small voice, “I don’t know, but she went after Ms. Fowler. Maybe she got nervous and urged the driver to drive faster.”
Queenie’s brows remained furrowed. “But if Sherry was taking Caprice away, how did she know Mom got into a car crash?” Julie said, “I don’t know either. We'll know when we see her in the hospital.”
She might not know how Sherry found out that Madam Stockton got stuck in the burning car, but she was certain that Sherry was taking Caprice away to Coastrock, or else she did not need to distract and send Aunt Wanda and Jason away.
Chapter 1594
The corridor outside the ER room was exceptionally quiet.
Awhile later, Sherry decided to call John again, but she still could not reach him.
Sherry pursed her lips. She called Brandon and said, “Brandon, have you brought Caprice home?” Brandon said, “We just arrived home. Aunt Wanda is taking care of her, and the bodyguard is here as well. Don’t worry.” Aunt Wanda? Jason?
Should Aunt Wanda not be out shopping with her friend?
Should Jason not be resting?
Could they have returned home?
Sherry found it odd. She wanted to call Aunt Wanda to confirm it, but Queenie and Julie had arrived. Queenie’s eyes were teary as she strode in, and there was also an obvious hint of anger.
Sherry was baffled by her reaction.
Queenie went up to her and stared at her. “Sherry, why were you taking Caprice away?!”
Sherry was baffled. How did Queenie know?
Queenie got her answer based on Sherry’s reaction. She was upset and angry at the same time, and the mix of emotions drove her to raise her hand.
Slap!
She slapped Sherry.
Sherry did not see the slap coming. The slap sent her stumbling backward, and it left a burning sensation on her cheek. Queenie cried, “It’s because of you! If Mom didn’t go after you and Caprice, she wouldn't have gotten into a car crash!” Sherry widened her eyes. “She went after me?”
“What else? Why are you doing this? Did John treat you poorly? Did | treat you
poorly? Why did you take Caprice away?”
Queenie’s emotions went out of control. She angrily pushed Sherry backward and sent her falling to the cold, hard floor.
Sherry had a bad fall, but for some reason, she did not feel any pain. Her mind was filled with Queenie’s words about Madam Stockton going after her and getting into a car crash.
Julie went up to hug Queenie. She said, “Queenie, calm down. Let's wait and see how Mother is doing.”
Queenie snorted. Her eyes remained bloodshot and teary as she screamed, “Sherry, if anything happens to Mom, | will make you pay for it! And | will never forgive you!”
Sherry, in her wretched state, furrowed her brows tightly. Madam Stockton got into a car crash because of her? Because of her?!
Aplane landed steadily at Glenchester Airport.
The broadcast reminded the passengers to leave nothing behind.
In the business class section, the man pulled his phone out from his pocket and turned the flight mode off.
Peter was beside the man, and he made two calls right after he turned off the flight mode. A while later, he said to John, “Sir, the manager of both airports said they did not see Ms. Fowler or Ms. Caprice at all. They are not there.”
Not at the airport?
John pondered.
As soon as his phone reconnected to the mobile network, he received a ton of missed calls and texts.
Some were from Julie and Queenie, and some were from Sherry.
Sherry had tried calling him multiple times.
If Sherry was trying to kidnap Caprice, why would she be calling him so many times? Julie and Queenie also had tried to reach him.
Ding.
A call from Julie came in.
He answered the phone and asked, “Julie? What’s wrong? | just got out of the plane.”
Chapter 1595
Chapter 1595 Julie choked on her words for a moment and said, “John, it’s Mother...” The man frowned. His tone sounded anxious when he said, “Mother? What happened to her?”
Julie cried and continued, “Mother got into a car crash. She went after Sherry and somehow crashed into a tree. She’s still inside the ER, and it has been two hours now.”
John’s handsome face turned cold and suspicious. He gulped and asked in a hoarse voice, “Which hospital?” Back in the corridor outside the ER room, Julie stood at the corner further away while making the call. After that, she kept her phone and returned to the entrance of the ER where Queenie was sitting on the bench quietly.
Julie sat down beside her and glanced at Sherry who was sitting further away. She said to Queenie, “Queenie, | just called John.”
Queenie looked at her. Even Sherry, who had been squatting for a while, turned to her. Julie said, “He just got out of the plane and he’s on his way here.” Queenie nodded and hummed a reply in a sobbing tone.
Sherry continued to squat numbly. The anxiety in her chest grew stronger. She felt helpless and terrible as if she was hung over some sharp icicles and had a fire burning beneath her feet. She covered her head and continued waiting.
Seconds turned into minutes, and minutes into hours.
Some time later, just when Sherry was about to lose consciousness, a set of familiar footsteps arrived. The footsteps made her heart pound.
She looked up and saw the man coming closer to her in his handsome black suit.
His handsome face was void of the usual kindness and gentleness. Only a grim frostiness could be seen on his expression. “John!”
Julie bolted up right away.
Queenie also stood up with her bloodshot eyes. She said as she sobbed, “Brother, Mom is still inside!”
John frowned. He scanned over them with an emotionless gaze and then landed his gaze on Sherry.
Sherry looked nervous and evasive. She wanted to stand, but squatting for such a long time robbed her ability to get on her feet, so she remained crouched. She looked at the man timidly and said in a small voice, “John, |...”
Screech! The ER doors finally opened.
Queenie ran over immediately with Julie behind her. John also walked past Sherry
and headed to the entrance. Sherry helped herself up by holding onto the wall.
Then, the doctor said with a heavy tone, “Master Stockton, Ms. Stockton, we've tried our best. Madam Stockton suffered a terrible concussion, and the odds of her waking up again are slim.”
Sherry was shaken when she heard the doctor. She saw John’s slender figure freeze and his expression turned horribly cold. The atmosphere froze for a few seconds.
Queenie cried as she asked, “Are you saying that my Mom won't wake up again?”
The doctor sighed. “I’m afraid so. We tried our best, so please be prepared for the worst.” He then left with the nurses. Awhile later, the unconscious Madam Stockton was wheeled out of the ER.
Queenie broke down in tears by the bed while Julie tried to calm her down. John was petrified like a statue.
