Chapter 1586

Chapter 1586 Sherry sat beside the bed for a while. She wanted to see Caprice, but the girl was with the man.

She had no idea if the man was still mad at her, and if she took the risk to go out, it might exacerbate things. Therefore, all she could do was hide in the room.

Back in the living room, Caprice had just finished a bag of snacks.

John wiped her mouth and asked, “Do you want more?”

Caprice shook her head and then looked in the direction of the bedroom.

John’s gaze shifted. He asked, “Caprice, what are you looking at?”

She said with protruded lips, “Why isn’t Mommy coming out?”

He was silenced.

Caprice was obviously upset by her mother’s absence. “Daddy, why did you bully Mommy?” He said with a smile, “Daddy did not bully Mommy. I’m just joking with her.”

She furrowed her tiny brows. She pondered and said, “Then, can you not joke with her again?” John's eyes flickered. He then curled his lips and said, “Alright, Daddy knows what to do.” Caprice immediately widened her lips into a smile.

He hugged her with a smile. “Are you sleepy now? Why don’t we go to bed?”

“| want to listen to Mommy's stories.”

Amomentary silence later, he said, “Okay.” He carried the girl up and headed to Sherry’s room. He knocked but there was no answer.

The door was locked from the inside as well.

Had he frightened her with his words and actions earlier? Why would she be so defensive all of a sudden?

His brows furrowed as he carried Caprice out. He took a detour from outside the house and soon arrived at Sherry’s balcony. He opened the connecting door and carried Caprice into the room.

He saw Sherry sitting by the bed with her messy hair and thick clothes. She seemed to have fallen asleep. Caprice said, “Daddy, Mommy is sleeping on the floor.” John narrowed his eyes. “Yeah.” He then approached Sherry and tapped on her head.

Pak!

Sherry woke up. When she saw the man before her, her pupils shrank and she instinctively moved backward.

John was disheartened by her reaction. He then said, “Caprice wants a story.”

Then, Caprice reached out her little arms and said, “Mommy, | want to listen to ‘Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf’!” Sherry felt relieved as she carried the girl in her arms, but she remained cautious against John.

He tightened his lips. “I have to go settle some work matters. I'll be back in two days. Stay at home and take care of Caprice while I’m gone.”

Sherry’s eyes flickered. “Got it.” The man then left from where he came in. Sherry went over as soon as he disappeared and locked the connecting door.

To her surprise, the man had not gone very far and was standing right beside the door. She noticed him when she locked the door.

His tall figure and kind looks looked rather intimidating under the moonlight.

 

Chapter 1587

Chapter 1587 Sherry’s eyes flickered.

However, knowing that he would not be able to come in anymore to hurt her, she lifted her chin and glared at him coldly before she went back inside.

John was left speechless. His expression turned frosty as he chuckled. He then pulled his phone out to text her. “I'll spare you tonight for the sake of Caprice. If | find out that you are seeing Mason again, you will suffer the consequences.” Ding!

Back in the bedroom, Sherry heard her phone buzz just when she placed Caprice on the bed. She glanced at it and her expression changed. She inhaled deeply and replied, “I know.”

She would be stealing Caprice away tomorrow, so it was not just Mason but she would not even be seeing John anymore.

After replying, she carried Caprice in her arms and started to read the girl a story about Red Riding Hood. The girl listened with all her heart until she fell asleep on her mother’s chest.

The baby smell from the girl warmed Sherry’s heart, even more so when she saw her adorable face sleeping soundly. She stroked the girl’s cheeks softly and kissed her.

Sherry then put the girl on the bed and headed to the closet.

She planned to take Caprice away in the morning, so in order to sneak away undetected, she could not bring too many things with her. She kept the necessary documents and some clothes in a single backpack.

Then, she snuck into Caprice’s room and kept the girl’s usual necessities in another backpack.

All that was left was to distract Aunt Wanda and Jason before she could leave Glenchester with Caprice once and for all. The thought made her heart race.

She put the backpacks together before she returned to the bed and hugged the girl to sleep. The thought of escaping with Caprice left her sleepless for the entire night.

Before daybreak, Sherry already opened her eyes.

She texted her driver, Brandon. “Brandon, are you here yet?”

Brandon replied immediately, “Sherry, I’m on my way. ETA 20 minutes.”

Sherry took a deep breath. She got up and went to the bathroom to wash her face.

Maybe because Caprice slept late yesterday, the girl was asleep despite Sherry changing her clothes. Fortunately, it would be easier for Sherry to bring Caprice away with her asleep.

After settling her emotions, Sherry opened the door.

Aunt Wanda came over and asked, “Ms. Fowler, is Caprice awake?”

“She’s still sleeping,” Sherry said. A quick thought later, she added, “Aunt Wanda, why don’t you take the day off? I’m bringing Caprice out later and will only be back at night.”

Aunt Wanda looked worried. “Can you take care of Caprice alone?”

Sherry smiled. “Of course, | can.” She knew Caprice’s habits better than her own now, and since Caprice was an obedient girl, there was nothing to worry about.

Aunt Wanda smiled. “Very well. Emerence is having her day off as well, I'll go shopping with her.”

“Yeah. Sure. Go ahead.”

Aunt Wanda left with a smile.

Sherry sighed a breath of relief. She headed to the front yard and saw Brandon’s white MPV waiting for her.

Brandon was her driver that she brought over from the Sagers, and he had visited a few times, so the security guards let him in without any obstacles.

Jason was walking around the front yard, and when he saw Brandon driving the car over, he asked, “Madam, are you going out today?”

Sherry said with a smile. “Yeah. I’m going out later.” Jason’ added, “Are you bringing Ms. Caprice with you as well?”

“No.” Sherry bit the bullet and tried to remain as natural as possible. “I’m bringing her to Queenie’s place later.”

 

Chapter 1588

Chapter 1588 Sherry then said, “It’s cold, so I’m not bringing Caprice out today. You should go getsome rest as well.”

Jason was Caprice’s personal bodyguard and would follow the girl wherever she went. Now that he learned Caprice was not going out, there was no reason for him to follow her. He smiled and nodded before he went away.

Sherry nervously exhaled and then went back into the room. She grabbed the sleeping Caprice and the backpacks she prepared last night before striding back outside.

Brandon got out of the car and helped her open the door.

Sherry tossed the backpacks inside before she went in with the girl.

“The airport! Now!” she said.

Brandon nodded and started the car.

The car quickly drove towards the gate along the main avenue.

Meanwhile, Mia came out from behind the wall after the car left. She quickly ran back to Julie’s place. Julie was sitting in the living room.

Mia ran in and said nervously, “Madam, | just saw Sherry distract Aunt Wanda and Jason, and take Ms. Caprice into a car. Her own driver was at the wheel. Is she kidnapping Ms. Caprice back to Coastrock City?”

Julie bolted up and said with a grin. “I’m going to Mother’s place. Come with me.”

Mia was shocked. “Huh? Madam, why are you going to Madam Stockton’s place? Sherry is bringing Ms. Caprice away for good, so why not let them just leave?”

“You don’t understand. Just follow me.” Julie was not in the mood for explaining. She quickly marched out of the house with Mia following. Awhile later, the two of them arrived at Madam Stockton’s place.

Madam Stockton had just woken up a while ago and was having breakfast by the table. She was surprised by Julie’s arrival. She asked coldly, “What are you doing here?”

Julie frowned and wore a nervous look on her face. “Mother, | am not here to disturb your breakfast. I'm here to tell you something.”

“What is it?” Julie hesitated for a moment and said, “Ms. Fowler... might be kidnapping Caprice back to Coastrock City.” Madam Stockton’s expression shifted. “What did you say?!”

Julie continued indifferently, “Mia passed by John’s place and happened to see Ms. Fowler carry Caprice into the car without Aunt Wanda and Jason. She only had two backpacks with her.”

She then glanced at Mia. Mia was aware of the signal, so she echoed, “Yes, Madam. | saw everything. Before Ms. Fowler got into the car, she even sent Aunt Wanda and Jason away from the front yard.”

Madam Stockton bolted up. She looked at her trusted maid, Emerance, and bellowed, “Go find Jason and Wanda!”

Emerence nodded and hurried out of the house.

Julie’s gaze shifted. She added, “Mother, when Mia came to me, she already saw Ms. Fowler’s car heading towards the gate.” Madam Stockton’s brows furrowed. “Tell the driver to bring the car over! I’m going after that woman!”

Julie immediately said, “Mother, are you going after Ms. Fowler yourself? It’s inappropriate! Why not call John and get him to send his men?”

“He’s on a business trip. When he finally sends his men here, that woman might have already kidnapped Caprice on a plane!” Madam Stockton quickly walked out of the house.

Julie went after her and said, “Mother, the car is usually parked at the gate, so it’s inconvenient for them to pick you up from there. | took a cart here., Why don’t we take the cart to the gate?”

“Fine.”

Madam Stockton’s residence was located at the deepest part of the estate, and the road was slightly narrower than the main avenue. The car would have a difficult time making a U-turn, so it would be faster to take the cart to the gate.

Madam Stockton got into the cart without a second thought, and Julie sat beside her.

Chapter 1589

Madam Stockton ordered the driver to drive as fast as he could.

The cart sprinted all the way to the gate and stopped beside the parking lot. Madam Stockton got out swiftly, and so did Julie.

Madam Stockton was aware of Julie following her, so she said, “You don’t need to follow me. Call John, tell him to call Sherry, and maybe he can change her mind.”

Julie immediately answered, “Alright. | will call John right away.” She pulled her phone out but did not dial John’s number. Instead, she watched as Madam Stockton get into her car.

The car engine roared to life and sprinted out of the gates.

As the car accelerated out of her sight, Julie’s expression turned cold and her eyes showed a hint of viciousness. She muttered, “Mother, don’t blame me for this. You should blame yourself for seeing things that you shouldn’t and trying to chase me out of the family.”

Meanwhile, the white MPV had driven away from the residential area of the Stocktons.

Sherry was in the rear seat with Caprice. Her eyes were glued to the window.

Suddenly, the girl in her arms moved. Sherry looked down and saw the girl's crystal clear eyes looking at her. “Good morning, my baby,” she said with a smile.

Caprice was aware of her surroundings. She asked curiously, “Mommy, are we going out to play?”

Sherry hummed a reply.

Caprice looked around and then continued, “Why didn’t Aunt Wanda and Uncle Jason come with us?” Sherry’s eyes flickered. “Mommy told them to take a day off today.”

The girl’s curiosity was limited, but she was interested in knowing where they were heading. As she slowly regained her clarity, she asked, “Mommy, where are we going?”

Sherry inhaled deeply and said, “We are going someplace far.” The girl opened her mouth and asked innocently, “How far?”

Sherry pursed her lips. Just when she was about to tell the girl that they were going to Coastrock City, her phone rang. Startled, she nervously pulled her phone out.

It was John.

Why would the man call her at this hour?

She had just brought Caprice away from the house and even sent Aunt Wanda and Jason away, hence the man should have no way of knowing that she had taken Caprice.

Amomentary hesitance later, she decided to answer the call.

The man’s deep voice echoed in her ears, “Have you eaten breakfast?” He sounded gentle. Sherry sighed a breath of relief but her chest started to tighten again.

“I have,” she said.

“What are you doing now?” he asked.

Sherry replied with a question, “Shouldn’t you be working?”

“I'm on my way to the work site. It’s going to take a while,” the man said. He was

calling her with the free time he had in between meetings.

“|... I'm playing with Caprice,” Sherry stuttered.

 

Chapter 1590

The man on the other end of the call slightly furrowed his brows. Why did she stutter?

Was she feeling sour because of what he had done to her last night?

His expression changed as he softened his tone. “I was impulsive last night. As long as you stay by my side, and stop seeing Mason, | promise | won't do that to you again anymore.”

Sherry’s brows and chest tightened. She had taken Caprice away, yet the man was trying to apologize to her. “Sherry, why aren’t you saying anything?” he asked. Sherry frowned. She said, “I don’t know how to answer you.”

The man went silent for a few seconds before he said in delight, “This place is famous for its wine. I’ve bought you several bottles, and I think they will arrive at your doorstep by tonight.”

Sherry was silenced but the man’s sudden change of attitude and topic. Should he not be mad that she refused to talk to him? Why did the man apologize to her on the phone and even bought bottles of wine for her?

“Sherry?” the man called her once more.

“Yeah, I’m here. | know,” she said as she pursed her lips.

“Mm-hmm. I’m reaching soon. | have to go. Talk to you later.”

“Okay.”

Sherry hung up the phone and then saw Caprice looking at her with an innocent gaze.

The girl asked, “Mommy, why did you lie to Daddy?” She understood the brief conversation between Sherry and John.

Sherry furrowed her brows for a while before she said, “Caprice, Mommy is actually bringing you to the city where | used to live. Do you want to come with me?”

Caprice’s eyes gleamed. A thought rushed into her mind and she asked, “Is Mommy bringing Daddy too?”

Sherry said, “Mommy only wants to bring you, not Daddy,”

The girl’s eyes showed brazen disappointment. “If Daddy is not going, Caprice is not going.”

Sherry’s chest tightened once more and it started to suffocate her. She sighed after a huge struggle with her thoughts. “Fine...” She turned to Brandon. “Brandon, can we turn back?”

Brandon was confused. “Sherry, aren’t you going back to Coastrock?”

“Not now.”

Her new plan would be to discuss her return to Coastrock with John when he came back tomorrow. She also planned to ask the man if she could bring Caprice there for a few days. Since she had not completed the tasks Madam Sagers had assigned her, she had to go back eventually.

She also planned to tell John the truth about why she cheated on him with Mason nine years ago. From another perspective, if John cheated on her with some other women and still kept in contact with the mistress, even she would feel betrayed.

He did not trust her because he saw her cheating on him with Mason with his own eyes. It was an obstacle in his heart that he could not get over. If she told him the truth and cleared the obstacle for him, he might be able to trust her in the future.

Back at Stockton Residence, Julie had been calling John since Madam Stockton left. However, maybe because John was busy, Julie was unable to get to him until now. The call finally got through swiftly and the man’s rich voice sounded from the other end of the phone. “Julie? What’s the matter?”

Julie feigned a nervous look and tone and said, “John, Sherry is taking Caprice away. Mother has gone after them. | think you need to send your men after them.”

The man’s expression turned grave. “Isn't she playing with Caprice at home?”

“No. Mia saw her sending Aunt Wanda and Jason away in the morning and then she brought Caprice into the car with her own driver. She even had two backpacks with her.”

The man’s handsome face was shrouded with a layer of grim.

No wonder Sherry stuttered in the call earlier. She was running away with Caprice!
