Ch. 1661..1665
Chapter 1661
An engagement next month?
John was made restless by the news and frowned tightly.
How dare she forget that they were husband and wife in the eyes of the law?! Their marriage certificate was still valid!
How dare she submit herself to another man?!
Did she truly hate him so much that she would fling herself into the arms of another man and get engaged before even getting a divorce from him?
Jason was intimidated by John's darkening demeanor and backed away cautiously. He asked warily, "Sir, what shall we do next?'
John frowned. He considered for a moment and decided. "Have our men keep an eye on Carl. Tell them to find out the exact date of their engagement."
"Understood," Jason replied, and hurried out.
A depressing silence overtook the room.
John frowned and looked at the picture of Sherry on the report. He found himself caressing the picture with his fingers as if hoping to feel her touch through the picture.
How dare you get engaged to another man?
Don't you ever even think about it!
It was a dreamless night.
Sherry was woken up by the alarm clock in the morning. After she packed up, she went to the Sager Tower.
Most of the employees were acquainted with her by now.
Upon her arrival, the employees greeted her politely.
Sherry quickly noticed that many of them were darting fleeting glances at her left arm as well.
She wagered that Ron must have spread rumors about the scars on her left arm that even the employees of the company had caught wind of it already.
He was doing this to make her feel alienated, to feel like a freak.
Sherry frowned upon realizing this. She politely returned their greeting before heading to her office.
She cast these thoughts off her mind and immediately turned her attention to her work as soon as she sat down. Suddenly, her phone rang.
It was a voice message from Lisa, "Sherry, I have some bad news, that b*stard Ron had his assistant spread news about the scar on your left arm. But don't worry about it, I'll make sure he gets what he deserves as well. Soon, you'll begin hearing about that one time he got caught cheating by Anne and was kicked out onto the streets butt naked."
Sherry could barely stifle her laugh upon hearing this.
She was aware that Ron was a cheater and that even till now, he had a couple of mistresses out there. Still, this was the first time she heard about him being caught by Anne.
Sherry assured Lisa. "Aunt Lisa, don't worry about me, I don't care about all that."
Lisa was relieved. "That's good to know."
She sent another follow-up message, "One more thing, I got in touch with the best wedding dress designer in Coastrock, we're going to tailor the perfect wedding dress for you. She freed up her schedule this afternoon. Come with me this afternoon so we can get your measurements, then she can get started on the design. It's going to be wonderful."
Sherry replied, "No need for that, Aunt Lisa. I can just buy one at the dress shop myself."
She was going to get engaged to Carl at the start of the next month.
It was nothing more than a formality to publicize their engagement, so she did not see the need to make a whole ordeal out of it and get a tailor-made dress for the occasion.
Lisa immediately objected. "That won't do. You're my daughter-in-law, what would I ever do if people found out that I let my daughter-in-law wear a common dress on the day of her engagement?"
Sherry refuted weakly, 'Aunt Lisa, it's not a big deal, it's just a formality."
Lisa was adamant. "Absolutely not. I'll see you later at three, end of discussion."
Sherry gave up on trying to persuade the headstrong Aunt Lisa.
She was tough as nails once she made up her mind on something, so it was no use trying to object.
Time flew by when one was busy working.
Sherry had a meeting after lunch. After wrapping up the meeting and stepping out of the conference room, she met Lisa in her office.
It seemed like Lisa had been waiting.
As soon as they made eye contact, Lisa went up to Sherry and led her away without a word.
They arrived at a luxurious private studio in no time.
The owner of the studio was Susan May, a well-known designer. She had everything prepared for her honored clients today.
As soon as Lisa entered, she introduced the two to each other, "Ms. Susan, this is my future daughter-in-law, Sherry."
Susan smiled graciously and greeted Sherry.
Sherry was very polite and greeted the designer similarly.
With that, the ladies sat down and began their discussion concerning the design of the dress.
While this was ongoing, an unseemly vehicle stopped opposite the studio.
There was a man seated in the backseat. He looked out the tinted windows and spied into the studio.
Chapter 1662
Chapter 1662 Susan was focused on her objective and started right away. “Miss Sherry, what kind of dress do you like?” Sherry had no opinions. “Anything that suits me.”
Susan smiled briskly before handing a booklet to Sherry. “Here are some of my recent designs, take a look and see if there’s anything that catches your eye.”
Sherry took the booklet and began going through it.
There were dresses of all sorts of colors, and all of them gave off a different impression
but one thing they had in common was that they were all gorgeous beyond belief.
There was one problem, however...
Sherry asked hesitantly, “Susan, do you have anything that sports a long sleeve?”
Susan did a double take.
Lisa realized what Sherry meant and repeated the request, “Yeah, Susan, do you have anything long-sleeved for her?”
“| do, but there’s only one design. It’s a rather new design, | only just made the dress yesterday,” Susan rose as she said this.
Sherry and Lisa rose as well and followed her to another section of the studio that had at large assortment of dresses hung everywhere.
One of them was a long-sleeved dress.
Peals were embroidered along its waistline, it was very elegant and fashionable. Most importantly, it sported a unique long-sleeve design that was perfect for covering up her scars. “Miss Sherry, what do you think about this one?” Susan asked eagerly.
Sherry smiled. “I think it’s wonderful.”
Lisa was delighted to hear this and beckoned, “Go on, try it!”
Susan gave Sherry an inviting look.
Sherry smiled and took the dress. “Sure.”
It took some time to put on the dress, but the good news was that it was a perfect fit. It was as if the dress was specifically made for her as if fate had ordained it.
Sherry emerged from the dressing room.

Both Lisa and Susan were eagerly waiting to see the soon-to-be bride in her new dress. The moment Sherry emerged, they were both awed by what they were seeing.
“Sherry, you're beautiful!” Lisa exclaimed warmly, she quickly walked up to Sherry to get a closer look while commenting, “It’s a shame you're skinnier now, you'd have looked even better if you wore this back then.”
Sherry grimaced instinctively upon hearing this.
Susan salvaged the situation with a quick-witted remark. “She looks wonderful in this dress. even with her current figure. | think this is the right dress for you, Miss Sherry.”
“Of course, of course.” Lisa turned to Sherry. “Sherry, do you like this one? Or would you like to see if there are better options for you?”
“| like this one, let’s settle with this.” She did not want to take more time than necessary.
Lisa was overjoyed to hear this. “Perfect! This one it is.”
With that, she went to pay for the dress.
Sherry remained in front of the mirror and looked at her reflection.
Inside the mirror was a petite lady with fair skin, she looked like an angel.
It was indeed a beautiful dress, perfect for a wedding. She loved the marble white fabric. and its cut was perfect for her.
She looked like she was modeling for a wedding dress photoshoot.
She almost could not recognize herself. Meanwhile, inside the car parked outside.
A pair of eyes stared through the tinted glasses, into the standing mirror inside the studio. The man inside the car took in the breathless sight of the lady in white.
John was bedazzled by what he was seeing and for a moment, could not speak at all. After some time passed, Sherry went back into the fitting room to change out of the dress. This took him out of his trance.
Sherry changed back into the clothes she came in and by the time she emerged from the fitting room, Lisa had already paid for the dress.
Susan informed with a satisfied smile, “Mrs. Lisa, I'll take another look at the dress and have my assistant delivered to your residence by tonight.”
Lisa smiled and thanked Susan.
Susan then turned to Sherry and congratulated her on the fine purchase, “Excellent choice, Miss Sherry. Let me wish you and Master Carl a happy engagement in advance.”
573 Sherry thanked her kindly. With that, she left with Lisa.
As soon as they stepped out of the studio, they bumped into Carl who had just arrived. He seemed like he came here in a hurry. When he saw Sherry and Lisa stepping out, he immediately asked, “Mom, has Sherry finished picking out the dress already?”
Lisa asked rather snappily, “She’s already picked out the dress. What took you so long to get here? What were you getting up to?”
Carl immediately turned to Sherry. “Hey, Sherry, which dress did you pick?”
Chapter 1663
Chapter 1663 Sherry told him, “Just a simple white dress.” “In what style?” Carl approached her and smiled in a way only someone in love could. ” Could you wear it again for me to see?”
Any other time, Sherry would not entertain him at all and even ignore him, but since Lisal was right here with them, she could not brush him off condescendingly. She hesitated for a moment and told him, “I have a meeting later. I’m afraid | don’t have time to put on the dress for you to see now, let’s wait until next time.”
Carl frowned and let his frustration show.
Sherry did not think much of his response and headed toward the parking lot.
She was not lying as she had a meeting with a client in half an hour.
Carl hurriedly followed her.
Lisa followed behind them and watched the pair walk together. She smirked and murmured to herself, “What a little brat.” They got into the car together.
Meanwhile, inside another car parked out of sight in the corner of the parking lot.
The man in the backseat was paying close attention to the trio that had entered the parking lot and gone to their car. After Sherry got into the car, Carl invited himself into the car as well and sat right next to her.
Lisa knew better than to crowd in the backseat with them and took the passenger seat instead.
Shortly after, the car swerved out of the parking lot.
Nobody spoke inside John’s car.
Eventually, Jason informed in a low and careful voice, “Master Stockton, they’re leaving.” John ordered with a tight frown, “Go back to the hotel.”
“Yes, sir.”
He promptly started the engine.
They drove a short distance and reached the hotel in no time.
John stepped out of the car and entered through the main entrance. He took the elevator to the top floor where the presidential suite was located.
He flung the door open and walked in, already accustomed to the place. Immediately upon his entry, Caprice came running out of the bedroom.
She looked like she had just woken up, judging by how she was not wearing socks.
Aunt Wanda trailed behind her and called out after her, “Caprice, you haven't put on socks
yet!”
Caprice barely heard her at all. The only thing on her mind was her father.
Her short and chubby feet carried her like a waddling duck toward John.
John bent over and promptly took her into his arms.
Caprice found comfort in her father’s arms.
John propped her up on his shoulders and met her at eye level.
Caprice’s voice was like that of an angel’s, she immediately asked, “Daddy, where’s Mommy?”
John told her that they were visiting the city to find her mother, but it had been several days since, and yet, there was no sign of her mother.
John struggled to form a reply but knew he had to come up with something anyway.” Mommy has been very busy recently, so Daddy hasn't managed to get in touch with her yet. Don’t worry, we'll see Mommy when she has time to meet us.”
“When will that be?” Caprice pouted. “I miss Mommy.” It had been a while since the child had last seen her mother.
Liam, Isabel, and Flint got to see their mother every day. Why was it that she did not have the same luxury?
John grimaced. “Mommy will be free in two days, | promise you, you'll see her soon enough, alright?” Caprice was rather doubtful of that but nodded anyway.
She would be patient and wait for two more days to pass.
She rested her head against John’s and stopped pestering him with questions.
John took a deep breath, then he carried her into the bedroom.
Aunt Wanda handed him a pair of socks and shoes for Caprice, he patiently put them on for her. After that was done, he gently patted her head and asked, “Caprice, do you want to go out and play?” Caprice shook her head. “I don’t really want to go out.”
John was very patient. “What do you want to do then?”
Caprice knew what she wanted. “I want Mommy.”
John became silent.
Caprice sighed faintly and said, “I miss Liam too.”
John did not know what to say.
He reached for his phone.
Caprice immediately took the phone. She tapped through the contacts like she had done it
a thousand times and quickly found Liam’s contact so she could video call him.
Chapter 1664
Chapter 1664 The next two days were rather hectic with work. Once again, it was Friday. It was the last week of the month.
It was a tradition for Sherry to take the employees of her department out for dinner at the end of the month to commemorate their hard work throughout the month.
This month was no exception either.
She had reserved a place for dinner in advance. Half an hour before the end of the working day, she instructed the employees of the three departments she oversaw to finish up their work and get ready to leave with her.
The place she had reserved for dinner was some distance from the Sager Tower, and it was a rather famous barbecue place located by the seaside.
She had reserved half of the second floor of the restaurant for the occasion. In what seemed like a queer coincidence, she arrived at the restaurant to see a lot of familiar faces.
Most of them were distant relatives of the Sagers, and some of them held positions in the corporation as well, albeit the lesser roles.
Two middle-aged men stood out. They were Aiden and Caden, and both the children of Anne and Ron. They had taken the family name of their mother instead of their father and were therefore honorary Sagers, even outsiders tend to refer to them as the Sagers.
This was the reason that despite being the only child of the family, Carl was not known as the sole Young Master Sager.
Both Aiden and Caden held leadership positions in the corporation and were considered rather ambitious men, but the extent of their capabilities was nothing compared to Carl.
Still, their insurance came in the form of having Ron and Anne look out for them.
Furthermore, their standing was secure largely thanks to their relationship with the other members of the Sagers household as nobody in the corporation would ever question their authority.
As soon as Sherry and her group bumped into them, someone behind her murmured, “How could we bump into them here of all places? Talk about bad luck.”
Aiden and Caden immediately noticed Sherry.
Something flashed across their faces at once, they immediately smiled at Sherry.
With that, their group began to approach Sherry.
Aiden greeted her with a smile, “President Sherry, what a coincidence, are you having dinner here today as well?” Sherry replied with a half-smile, “Yes, are you two eating here as well?”
Aiden remarked curtly, “I was thinking that this restaurant isn’t classy enough, but since President Sherry has chosen to dine here as well, | suppose there’s no reason for us to not dine here too! The more people the merrier, right?”
Was this meant to be taken as a subtle jab at her choice of restaurant?
Sherry did not take to this kindly. “I suppose this restaurant isn’t worthy of you two proud Master Sagers. Why don’t you two eat at the place down the street instead? It’s quieter and seems like a better fit for you two.”
There was indeed another barbecue place down the street but the only problem is that it was inferior in every way. It was ina less ideal location and its decoration was nowhere
near as extravagant.
It was sparsely decorated and even looked reminiscent of a ghost town since there were hardly any customers at the place. One would even have the impression that the place had closed down if not for the flimsy signboard outside.
Sherry’s sarcastic remark spurred some laughter from her employees.
Aiden and Caden were visibly upset by this, but they knew that there was nothing they could do to Sherry. As much as they hated to do so, they had to continue smiling and pretend as if they were not ruffled by Sherry’s pointed remarks.
That was when another shrill voice joined the conversation as someone emerged from behind Aiden and Caiden. “Sherry, these are my two brothers. They are the first and second eldest sons of the Sager family. Who do you think you are to disrespect them like this?!”
Ada came charging to the front and confronted Sherry with a vicious glare.
Sherry’s employees quickly zipped their lips. Ada was Ron’s niece and the cousin of the two Sagers. They knew better than to get on her bad side especially considering her
reputation.
None of them dared to speak up for Sherry so Aiden and Caden grew cocky again when they realized their savior was here. There was a lot of tension in the air.
Just when they thought Sherry was going to back away from this confrontation, she suddenly broke out laughing.
Ada did not take to this well and roared. “What are you laughing about?!”
Aiden and Caden were visibly confused by this as well.
Everyone stared at Sherry and waited for a reply.
Sherry caught her breath and said audaciously, “It’s funny that you think you two are superior to me when I’m the head of the marketing department in the corporation. Also, I’m Carl’s fiancée and will be inheriting the corporation with him in the future. Let me ask you the same question, who do you think you are?”
Ada’s voice was caught in her throat. “They... they are the elders of the family!” Sherry scoffed arrogantly. “So what? What are they going to do to me?”
Ada was at a loss for words.
Chapter 1665
Chapter 1665 Caden and Aiden were left entirely speechless. Their entire group was struck speechless.
Sherry continued stirring drama. “As for you, Ada, you’re not an employee at Sager Corporation and you're not a part of our family either. What are you supposed to be? Stop barking at me, would you?”
Ada’s complexion went white. “Sherry, you... you...”
Sherry cocked an eyebrow. “What? What about me?”
Ada did not know what to say so she continued stammering for words like a fool. All she could do was glare at Sherry and was entirely harmless otherwise.
Sherry was done squabbling with them. She turned to Aiden and Caden, both of them did not seem to be in a much better mood either, and bid them farewell crossly. “Alright, Master Sagers, we’re getting hungry so we'll be heading in.”
With that, she gave her group a look and signaled for them to enter the restaurant with her. They marched into the restaurant with her, all of them wearing bright smiles. The interior of the restaurant was splendid. It was a very welcoming environment.
The staff had been waiting for them and the manager came up to greet Sherry as soon as she entered, “Miss Sherry from Sager Corporation, is that right?”
Sherry nodded confidently. “That's right.”
“Please come with me, we have reserved seats for you on the second floor.” A crew of waiters parted like the Red Sea and invited the upstairs.
Sherry headed for the stairway with her group. Just as she was about to cross the threshold up the stairs, she caught yet another familiar sight from the corner of her eye. She turned to the familiar figure, unsure if her eyes were tricking her.
Seated by a seat next to the window was a tall man dressed in a crispy white shirt who wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses. He leaned against the table and was staring at her.
His arms were folded across his chest, his entire demeanor was suave and confident. He smiled in his usual charming, perceptive way.
He must have been sitting here the entire time and must have overheard her conversation with Ada and the others just now. Sherry turned pale white in an instant.
She never expected to see this man in Coastrock!
He was not alone. Seated with him was a rather plump child.
The child sat next to her father and was not causing any trouble, her large eyes were cast in Sherry’s direction as well. Sherry nearly cried out her name when she recognized who it was.
She immediately seized herself and suppressed the urge to do so. She clenched her fist to steel her composure, then she turned around and continued heading up the stairs
It was as if she did not see them at all.
Her group followed her up the stairs. Soon, they were all gathered on the second floor. They settled into their seats one after another.
The glow in Caprice’s shining eyes dimmed the moment she saw Sherry heading up the stairs. She looked like she was about to cry and asked in a sullen voice, “Why did Mommy ignore me?”
Tears began to swell in her eyes, a sour sting rose up her nose. John looked just as sullen as well.
After a short silence, he took Caprice in his arms and did what he could to console her, Mommy must've been too busy to talk to us, don’t worry.”
Caprice held back her tears but was still rather skeptical. “Really?” It seemed to her like her mother did not want to speak to her at all. John smiled and reassured her. “Yes, I'm sure she'll come down here and greet us later.”
Surely, she did not acknowledge their presence here because her employees were around her. She wanted to see them privately.
He was sure that Sherry had a soft spot for Caprice so she would not simply ignore Caprice.
