Chapter 1671
When that happened, Sherry would no longer have the dignity to continue the engagement with Carl.
Lisa would probably dislike her when she found out, and so would Carl.
Caden said, “Yeah. Aiden, let's tell Dad, Mom, and Grandma!” He was eager to see Sherry embarrass herself in public. Aiden, however, went silent.
Amoment later, he said, “These pictures alone can’t prove that the girl is her daughter, and it also can’t prove that the man is her ex-husband.”
Caden asked, “Why not?” Ada looked at him as well.
Aiden explained, “Sherry has been keeping her distance from her ex-husband, and it’s quite the distance | must say. Even though she held her daughter, we don’t have a video of them talking. She could simply say the man was her friend or relative, and that the girl is her niece or someone else.”
Caden tightened his brows. Annoyed, Ada cursed, “That bitch is really cunning.”
Aiden, however, smiled. “She’s having the engagement with Carl in a week. | believe her ex- husband has his own agenda for appearing at this particular time with her daughter. Don’t worry, we'll follow them, and maybe we can get something spicy before the engagement.”
Ada frowned. “What if we can’t get anything and they proceed with the engagement?”
“Don't worry, Ada. There’s a week left.” A sudden thought rushed into Aiden’s mind and he added with a smile, “Maybe we can have a private conversation with her ex-husband.”
Ade’s gaze shifted.
Caden scoffed. “Bro, are you planning to prepare something ‘big’ for them during the engagement party?”
Aiden grinned. “I am going to prepare something so ‘big’ that they won't forget it for the rest of their lives.” Maybe after the engagement, Sherry might no longer be Carl's fiance and would leave the Sagers altogether. Sherry took a ride back to her own place; Caprice slept soundly in her arms.
She put the girl on her bed, removed the girl's jacket and shoes, and tucked the girl in before she headed to the bathroom to wash up.
After cleaning up, she came out in her pajamas.
She laid down beside Caprice and sniffed the girl’s sweet scent, which relieved her thoughts. She could not help but kiss the girl on the cheek before she hugged her to sleep.
She fell asleep soon after hugging her daughter into her arms.
At the same time below her apartment, the man’s slender figure leaned against the car with his arms crossed. He looked up and stared at Sherry’s window.
The lights had gone off for a while now. She must be asleep with Caprice.
Jason came over.
John glanced at him and asked, “Are the men ready?”
Jason answered, “We have arranged men around Ms. Fowler’s residence. Once she steps out of the house with Ms. Caprice, our men will follow her.”
John nodded.
Just before he went back into the car, Jason added, “Sir, there’s one more thing.”
John turned around. “What is it?”
Jason looked around sneakily and said in a small voice, “Our men also found out that someone is following you and Ms. Fowler.” John narrowed his eyes. “We'll talk about that in the car.”
He opened the door and got inside while Jason got into the passenger seat.
The car then drove off to his hotel.
Jason then turned to the rear seat and continued, “An hour ago, just when you left the beach with Ms. Fowler and Ms. Caprice, our men noticed them.”

Jason then pulled his phone out and tapped on the video he got from the bodyguard assigned to follow Sherry. He handed John the phone.
John took it and watched with his brows furrowed.
Jason added, “When our men found them, one of them was taking videos of you and Ms. Fowler. They only stopped when you and Ms. Fowler separated.”
The video clearly showed the group watching him and Sherry and one of them was clearly taking videos of him interacting with Sherry and Caprice.
The video of the group was taken from a distance, hence their blurry faces, but it was enough for John to recognize them.
The men were Aiden and Caden, the first and second sons of the Sagers. The woman in the glamorous dress might be the father’s niece, Ada, who had been living with them and had a crush on Carl.
They were having dinner at the restaurant when Sherry embarrassed them at the table. They must have found out when Sherry came down to see him and Caprice.
His gaze shifted after the video ended, and it put a grin on his face. Jason was baffled by his expression. “Sir, why are you smiling?” He was followed and taken video of, so how could he still smile? “It's nothing.”
Jason put away his curiosity and asked, “They have hired more men to follow you and Ms. Fowler. | believe there’s a car on our tail now. Do we need to act?”
John gave the phone back and leaned back comfortably. He said with a smile, “No need to act now. Just pretend that they are not here.”
Jason was more confused than before, but judging from the evil grin on his boss’s face, there should be nothing to worry about.
It was like the wolf finding out that it was followed by a bunch of rabbits. Not only did it not act immediately, but it also seemed to have a plan to lure the rabbits to its den.
Jason’s eyes flickered and no longer asked any more questions.
Sherry had a good night’s sleep. She could have gone on if the alarm did not wake her.
It was a Saturday, which she usually spent at work, but with Caprice around, she just wanted to stay at home with her. The girl was still soundly asleep.
Sherry kissed the girl on her plump cheek and continued lying down beside her, watching her sleep quietly.
Then, her phone suddenly rang.
It was Lisa.
Afraid that the call would wake the girl, she got up and answered it outside the room.
As soon as she answered the phone, Lisa said, “Sherry, | have some friends who want to meet you. They are with me now. You should be free for the day, right? Come over right now.”
“Aunt Lisa, I’m actually busy for the day,” Sherry said.
“| know. | know. You want to settle the proposal back at the office, but there’s no rush. You can settle it on Monday. My friends have wanted to meet you for a long time now. Get ready and come over here. We are waiting for you.”
Lisa hung up on her before she could say a word, leaving her speechless.
She put her phone away and returned to the bedroom.
Caprice had already woken up and she was sitting on the bed with a blurry look. Her googly eyes were sizing up the room. When the girl saw her mother, she squealed, “Mommy...”
Sherry went over to the girl who crawled into her arms and leaned on her chest.
Sherry felt an immediate warmth in her heart. “Caprice, don’t be scared. This is Mommy's place.”
The girl was obviously afraid of an unfamiliar environment. She nodded and hummed a reply. She then said, “Mommy, | want to pee.”
Sherry chuckled and brought the girl to the bathroom.
She brought Caprice home in a rush, thus she did not have time to prepare the necessities for the girl. Sherry wiped the girl’s face and hands, combed her hair, and put some fresh clothes on her before bringing her out.
“Mommy, where’s Daddy?” the girl asked. Sherry patted the girl’s head. “Hold on.”
While Caprice nodded adorably, Sherry headed to the door and opened it.

Outside the door was a young, buff man.
Sherry already noticed him when she brought Caprice home last night. She knew the man was one of John’s lackeys. Sherry said, “Call your boss to come over.”
The bodyguard nodded and pulled out his phone.
Sherry returned to the living room and hugged Caprice with a heavy heart.
Awhile later, knocks came from the door. Sherry opened it and saw John in a casual white T-shirt and long pants, standing straight in front of her. His handsome face was coupled with his signature golden-framed glasses. He was smiling like a gentleman when Sherry opened the door.
Sherry instinctively reacted with a frosty look. John said, “I’m here for Caprice.” Sherry stepped aside without saying a word.
When Caprice saw him, her eyes curved into two lines and she squealed happily, “Daddy!” She ran to the door with her little short legs.
John wanted to walk in but was greeted by Sherry’s cold glare. His expression shifted and it made him stop.
Caprice ran over to him.
John carried the girl into his arms and then looked at Sherry. “Did Caprice sleep well last night?”
Sherry ignored him. She said to Caprice, “Caprice, Mommy is busy later. I'll go find you when I’m done, okay?”
Lisa had texted her to urge her to be quick. She really had to leave for the meeting.
Caprice was slightly disappointed when she heard her mother was leaving, but she nodded obediently and said, “Okay.” Sherry smiled at her. “Good girl.”
She switched to her frosty look and stared at John.
John pursed his lips. “You go ahead. I'll take Caprice out for a walk. If you want to see Caprice after you're done, just tell Nelson to contact me.”
Nelson was the young bodyguard who had stood guard outside her door for the whole night. Sherry continued to ignore him. She looked at Caprice and said her goodbyes. “Bye, Caprice.”
Caprice pouted. “Bye, Mommy.”
John had one last glance at Sherry before he left with Caprice. Sherry watched Caprice leave her sight beyond the corner before she went back in. John brought Caprice to the elevator.
Coincidentally, there were two men walking towards them, seemingly coming out from the elevator. They had a quick but subtle glance at John and Caprice.
John’s gaze shifted. He replied with his frosty glance. The two men immediately averted their gazes when they met John’s gaze. Caprice pouted and then grumbled, “Daddy, why is Mommy not talking to you?” John pursed his lips in silence.
The two men, who had not left the proximity, paused and listened to the girl carefully.
Then, the elevator door opened. John glanced at the two men before he brought Caprice into the elevator.

Jason also got into the elevator, and the door shut after he went in.
John said, “It's because Daddy did something that made Mommy mad.” Caprice’s expression turned serious. “What did you do?”
John furrowed his brows and lowered his voice, “A lot. | did a lot to hurt Mommy.”
Caprice pouted. “Why did you hurt Mommy?” Her tiny hands wrapped around his neck, and she leaned against his chest. She pouted and glared at him angrily.
John choked up for a moment. He regained his voice after a while and said, “I didn’t do it on purpose, but | did hurt her.” “Hmph!” Caprice pouted angrily and looked away.
John was left speechless, and he pursed his lips helplessly. He then said to the girl, ” Caprice, | know what I did wrong, and I'll try my best to get Mommy back. But-”
“But what?” The girl looked at him with a skeptical gaze.
“But | may need your help,” John said with a smile.
If it was not for Caprice, he might not even see Sherry in person.
Caprice widened her eyes as soon as she heard her father asking her for help. “What can | do to help?”
Looking at the girl’s adorable and enthusiastic expression, John curled his lips. “Caprice, you don’t have to do anything now. You just need to tell Mommy you miss her when you see her and tell her you don’t want to leave her.”
As long as Sherry cared about Caprice, she would not be able to leave John. The two men stood outside the elevator. One of them was on watch while the other was making a call.
“Sir, we just saw the girl coming out from Ms. Fowler’s room, and she was taken away by the man. We also heard the girl calling
the man ‘Daddy‘ and Ms. Fowler ‘Mommy’.
Sherry changed into some fresh new clothes and went out. She planned to head to Lisa’s place by car, so she headed to the parking lot by the garden.

The rear window was wound down, and the girl popped half of her body out. Her hands were stretched out as she tried to hand Sherry a bag of steaming breakfast.
She said, “Mommy, Daddy bought breakfast for you. Eat it while it’s hot, then you can go to work!”
This was probably the most words she had ever spoken in a single sentence. The man was probably the one who taught her that.
Sherry refused to have the breakfast bought by the man, but the girl’s plump cheeks were too adorable to resist, and she sounded super cute too. She did not have the heart to reject the girl, so she accepted the breakfast from her.
“Thank you, Caprice. I'll go find you when I’m done with work.” Caprice smiled brightly. “Okay. Caprice will wait for you.” Sherry smiled at the girl. “Okay, Mommy is off to work.” “Mm-hmm!” The girl hummed adorably.
With a bright smile hanging on her face, Sherry entered the car with the breakfast. The car engine roared to life. Within a few steers, she was out of the apartment parking lot.
She was caught in terrible traffic while on the way to Lisa’s place. She then had a glance at the breakfast on the passenger seat. It was a tuna sandwich and a cup of hot latte, which were her favorites.

Sherry wanted to throw them away, but she instantly recalled the adorable Caprice handing her the breakfast.
She had no idea how long the girl had waited for her in the car because she found the girl's handprints on the sandwich. Sherry exasperatedly sighed and took the sandwich.
When she was almost done with the sandwich, the traffic finally cleared up.
Less than twenty minutes later, she arrived at Lisa’s mansion in the city center.
The gate has a facial recognition system installed, so Sherry got out of the car and stood in front of the gate.
A beep later, the gate opened for her.
When she entered the living hall, she saw Lisa and several fashionable middle-aged ladies chatting on the couch. They all looked at her when she walked through the door.
Lisa waved at Sherry. “Sherry, over here.” Sherry went over to the ladies.
Lisa got up and introduced Sherry to her friends. All the ladies came from prominent backgrounds. They were all entrepreneurs or successful businesswomen in Coastrock City.
Sherry greeted them politely before she was escorted to the table for tea. They chatted until afternoon and only stopped when Carl came over.
Carl came in a loud pink T-shirt. He went over to Sherry’s side, put his hand on her shoulder, and smiled at his mother. “Mom, are you done? | haven’t seen Sherry for a few days now. | want to go out with her.”
Lisa glared at him. though there was a smile on her face. “It’s just two days. Why are you getting so impatient?” Her friends echoed her sentiments.
“Yeah. We haven't had enough fun with Sherry.”
“Let her stay a little longer.”
“Oh well. Sherry’s been with us for the whole day now. It’s time to let her go out on a date with Carl.”
Upon hearing the ladies, Carl immediately dragged Sherry away.
Sherry already had the intention to leave, so she used Carl to escape the ladies. She smiled and said goodbye to Lisa and her friends before leaving with Carl.
Carl held her by the shoulders and walked out of the door, seemingly intimate.
After they left, Lisa and her friends retracted their gazes.
Her friends giggled and said, “Lisa, | like your future daughter-in-law. She’s guileless and capable.”
“More importantly, she’s even captured Carl's heart. Look at the boy.” “Yeah. | heard Carl has been working a lot harder recently because of her.” Lisa smiled and replied, “I like her too. She’s a good girl.”
Both Sherry’s personality and capabilities won Lisa’s heart. However, Sherry did not seem to have feelings for Carl and only agreed to fake the engagement because she wanted to help Carl win over the company.
Lisa hoped that her son would try a little bit harder to win Sherry’s heart too.
After leaving Lisa’s house, Sherry shrugged Carl’s hand off her shoulder. She said, “I have something to do. You go ahead.” She then headed to her car, but Carl stopped her by standing in her way.
Sherry almost bumped into him. She stared at him. “What’s the matter?”
Carl raised a brow with a rather sour look. “Sis, come on. We haven’t seen each other in days. Don’t you have some questions for me?”
Sherry furrowed her brows. “What do you want me to ask?”
“Ask me what have | done, where I’ve been, who | met...” He suddenly lowered his head and moved closer to Sherry. He switched his delightful voice to a charming one and continued, “...which girl did | sleep with?”
