Ch. 1676..1680

Chapter 1676

Sherry rolled her eyes at him. She walked around him and continued heading to her car.

Right after she opened the car door, Carl’s towering figure blocked her again.

Bang.

He shut the door with a bang and moved closer to her face.

Sherry instinctively retreated, but Carl caught her by the wrist. She furrowed her brows.” Carl, what are you doing?”

Carl curled his lips. His dreamy eyes shimmered enchantingly. “I'm trying to tell you, but you won't let me, so don’t think of leaving me today.”

Sherry pursed her lips. “What is it?”

Carl said, “I went to three places and did what you assigned to me last week. Other than that, I’ve also closed two major deals for the company.”

Sherry was intrigued. “Which two major deals?”

“Heiner Development in Suntory City’s new district development and the restructuring of the old district.” Sherry’s eyes gleamed. “You really closed the deal?”

Carl curled his lips. “I’ve brought the contract with me. What do you think?”

Sherry smiled. “Well done.”

Carl did well this time.

There were multiple companies bidding for the projects, and Sherry had been planning for a month now to win the tender. Due to the recent workload, she ran out of ideas and had been stuck in a bottleneck for a while now. She did not expect Carl to close the deal by

himself.

It seemed like Carl was more capable than she thought. If only he could keep this up

without her around...

Then, Carl's charming face moved closer to her. “Sis, I’ve got us two major deals, and that’s all you got to say?”

Sherry was speechless. A moment later, she said, “Keep up the good work. If you can keep this up, you will be able to take over the company soon.”

The veteran shareholders of the company disagreed with Carl taking over the company. While Ada played a crucial role in their decisions, they also disagreed because Carl had been a playboy before this, and none of them believed he had what it took to tuna

company. Carl pouted. “I don’t want that.”

“Then, what do you want?”

He smiled bewitchingly. “I want you to kiss-” Sherry curled her fist in front of his face.

Carl immediately changed his words. “Fine, | want you to have dinner with me to celebrate my little achievement.” He then released her wrist and stood by her side like an obedient

puppy.

Sherry glanced at her watch. It was 1 p.m., and she already had lunch with Lisa and her friends before Carl arrived. It was four to five hours too early for dinner, and she wanted to go back to Caprice at night.

Some thoughts later, she said, “Fine. Let's go have lunch instead.”

Carl was stunned. “Didn’t you just have lunch with my mom and her friends?”

Sherry explained indifferently, “I ate, but I’m not full.”

Carl was rendered speechless by her explanation. “Okay. Let’s go for lunch then.”

Then, he patted Sherry’s head by surprise and said, “Hold on. I'll go make the reservation.”

Before Sherry could react, he stepped away and made a phone call. She could not hear him, but he came back after a while. He said with a smile, “I got the reservation. Come on, I'll drive you there.”

Sherry gave him the car keys and got into the passenger seat instead.

Carl got into the driver’s seat and started the car. They then drove towards the suburbs.

At the first traffic light, the car stopped before the red light.

Carl voiced his dissatisfaction by saying, “Sis, your car is tiny, and the seats aren’t comfortable. The specs are terrible.” Sherry simply disregarded him.

Carl turned to her. “I'll buy you a new limited edition BUD sports car. It’s pink, and there're only ten in the whole wide world.” He even winked at her at the end.

Sherry replied indifferently, “Thanks, but no thanks.”

Chapter 1677

Acar was simply a means of transportation for Sherry. Her car might not be big or luxurious, but it was comfortable to drive around.

When the light turned green, Carl stepped on the accelerator. With an enchanting smile lingering on his face, he said, “I’ve already booked it. It will reach Coastrock on our engagement day.”

Sherry frowned. “I really don’t want it. Give it to someone else.”

After all, it was just a fake engagement. She was more than grateful for Lisa and the company’s kindness. The sports car must cost a fortune, and if she accepted it from Carl, what must she do to return the favor?

Carl said, “I want to give it to you. Just take it as an engagement present.” Sylvia ignored him, but he smiled and continued driving. Awhile later, the car stopped in front of a restaurant adorned with classic Mediterranean architecture.

Sherry got out of the car together with Carl, and the waiters came out to welcome them. One of the waiters smiled and said, “Mr. Sager, Ms. Fowler, your room is ready.”

Sherry and Carl were led to a VIP room on the second floor.

When the waiter opened the door, the dim environment inside surprised Sherry. It was sunny and bright outside, but the curtains in the VIP room were closed. Only candles were used to light up the room.

The row of candles was lined up neatly on the long table. There were fresh rose petals scattered across the floor and the table. Sherry was rendered speechless by the seemingly romantic scene.

Meanwhile, in the presidential suite of the five-star hotel opposite Sherry’s place, Caprice. had just fallen asleep on the bed. John stood by the window, and his eyes were glued to the apartment opposite the hotel.

It had been six hours since Sherry left this morning, and she had not come back yet.

Ding.

His phone rang. It was Jason.

He answered the call and put his phone beside his ear. “Where is she?”

Jason said in a small voice, “Sir, the bodyguard assigned to follow Ms. Fowler said she just

came out from Mrs. Sager’s place and went to a restaurant in the suburbs with Mr. Sager.”

She went to a restaurant with Carl at this hour?

John’s gaze turned grim. “Are they having lunch?”

Jason’s voice grew softer as he said, “Yes. They are in a VIP room with the windows and curtains shut, seemingly having a candlelight lunch.”

Windows and curtains shut? A candlelight lunch?

John frowned. His expression was disheartened.

Jason did not hear a reply from his boss, so he continued, “Sir, do we need to send someone to intercept them?”

“No. Just watch her and don't let her find out,” John said in a deep voice.

“Yes, sir.”

The call ended, and John put his phone away. His eyes were still glued to the apartment entrance opposite the hotel.

It was quiet. He stood by the window for quite a while, but his hand clenched tighter by the second and almost crushed his phone.

When she left in the morning, she said she would come back for Caprice, but not only did she spend half a day at Lisa’s place, she even had a candlelight lunch with Carl.

Was she really planning to marry Carl?

Chapter 1678

Back in the restaurant, even if Sherry was an idiot, she could tell it was actually ‘dinner’ instead of lunch. She had no idea what had gotten into Carl’s mind for arranging a

candlelight lunch in the middle of the day.

However, she agreed to have a meal with him, so she tended to keep the promise. She reluctantly walked in and sat down. Carl sat opposite her across the long table.

The waiter served the food and left them alone, leaving only a violinist playing inside. The music was pleasant to the ears.

Just when Sherry wanted to eat, Carl stopped her. He raised his glass of red wine and smiled bewitchingly with his charming eyes curved. “Sis, a toast.”

Sherry grabbed her glass and said, “Carl, congratulations on closing two major deals. Cheers.” She then finished the glass of wine in a single gulp.

Carl pursed his lips helplessly and took a small sip of wine.

Sherry then moved her attention to the steak before her. She was too lazy to cut it with a knife, so she forked the whole piece and started chewing it.

Carl was stunned. He simply responded with a helpless and bitter smile.

After a while, he narrowed his eyes and smiled bewitchingly. “How’s the food, Sis?” Sherry said without looking at him, “It’s quite okay.”

“Do you want one more?” he asked.

“Yeah,” she said with a nod. It was delicious, but the portion was a little small for her appetite. She could easily devour another plate.

Carl pursed his lips and told the waiter to bring another serving of steak for her.

After two plates of steaks and two glasses of wine, Sherry finally filled that black hole in her stomach. She put the fork and knife down and smiled at Carl. “Thank you, Carl. I’m done. | still have something to do, so | have to leave now.”

Carl propped his cheek on his hand and looked at her. Watching her getting up in a hurry, he smiled. “Sure.” Sherry simply grabbed her purse and walked out without saying anything.

While the candlelights in the room continued to glow romantically, the rose petals blessed the atmosphere with a faint fragrance, and the violinist pleasured the guests’ ears with his passionate playing.

Carl simply stared in the direction Sherry left. A while later, he regained his composure and

sighed helplessly.

“Fine. I'll have all the time | need after the engagement.”

After coming out of the restaurant, Sherry drove back to her apartment.

The car entered the parking lot and parked at her designated parking space. She got out of the car. As she walked to the elevator, an adorable voice rang out all of a sudden.

“Mommy...”

Sherry turned around.

She saw the man carrying the girl, standing in the corridor of the entrance.

It was Caprice and she looked like she had just woken up. The girl looked sleepy as she stared at her mother with her googly eyes.

Sherry strode over to the girl, but before she could get close, she sensed a pair of eyes watching her. The gentle gaze somewhat felt enchanting, but Sherry did not want to approach the man.

She frowned at him.

John smiled. “Caprice just woke up and wanted to see you, so | brought her here to wait for you.”

John smiled. “Caprice just woke up and wanted to see you, so | brought her here to wait for you.”

Chapter 1680

Chapter 1680 The door opened, and Sherry walked in with Caprice. John followed them in.

Sherry turned around to glare at him. He stopped and stood still in the living room like a monolith and kept his distance from the mother and daughter.

Sherry’s grim expression eased up when John decided to act tactfully. She then smiled at Caprice and asked, “Caprice, are you sleepy? Do you want to continue sleeping?”

Caprice sneaked a glance at John and then shook her head. “No. I’m not sleepy.” “Do you want to have anything to eat?”

The girl shook her head.

“Do you want to play games?”

The girl continued to shake her head.

Sherry sighed helplessly. “Then, what do you want to do?”

Caprice leaned into her arms and said adorably, “I don’t want to do anything. | just want to be with Daddy and Mommy.” She stuck her cheek to Sherry’s chest, looking adorable and obedient.

Sherry patted the girl’s head. “Okay.”

She carried the girl to the couch and sat opposite John with her back turned. The girl could see John, but he would be away from her sight.

However, the atmosphere got a little too quiet, and Sherry felt uncomfortable with the man staring at her from the back. A quick thought later, she said to Caprice, “Caprice, why don’t | play some stories for you?”

Caprice nodded and hummed a reply. Sherry pulled her phone out. She had downloaded a lot of e-books for children.

When she first came back to Coastrock, she had a problem with insomnia, and it was the children’s storybooks that lullabied her to sleep most of the time. All the storybooks that she listened to were Caprice’s favorites.

The voice that read the storybook sounded gentle and expressive. Caprice fell asleep after listening to the stories for a while, and even Sherry started yawning. She got up with Caprice and headed to the room.

John was standing by the wall, leaning against it. His hands crossed as he casually looked at her with a gentle gaze. It was as though they were intimate.

Sherry coldly glanced at him before she went into the room with Caprice. She locked the door from the inside before she carried Caprice to the bed.

Her apartment was close to the beach. When she opened the window, a soothing sea breeze would bless the room with a refreshing scent.

Sherry hugged Caprice and fell asleep as the girl’s scent seemed to comfort her thoughts.

When Sherry opened her eyes, she found herself in a dark room. The sky was dark and the stars were shimmering.

Sherry reached out to her side but there was no one there. She quickly switched on the lamp.

She was the only one in the room. The door remained closed, but the lock seemed to have been tinkered with. She got up from the bed, strode to the door, and opened it.

She looked outside into the living room and saw Caprice and John. Caprice was sitting on John’s lap in the well-lit living room. She was munching on a piece of cake while watching cartoons on John’s phone.

The entertaining content on the phone put an adorable smile on the girl’s face. Sherry walked out of her room.

When the father and daughter heard her footsteps, they turned to her. “Mommy...” Caprice called out happily.

Sherry smiled at her.

Caprice got up from John’s lap and walked over to her mother.

Sherry carried the girl into her arms and asked, “Caprice, when did you wake up?”
