Chapter 1711
Sherry forgot to tell Carl that Julie had used John to imprison her. He must still remember it and believed that John would actually harm her.
A quick thought later, she replied, “Don’t worry. He won't do anything to me now. I'll explain it to you and Lisa when | come over later.”
“Take a video of yourself. | want to see how you are doing” It seemed like Carl would not relent if she did not take a video of herself
Sherry lifted her phone and tapped on the record button, recording her and Caprice together. Then, she pointed the camera at John, who was sitting further away
John was looking at her when she pointed the camera at him. He smiled elegantly like a gentleman for the camera.
Sherry pursed her lips. She released the record button and sent the clip to Carl
Carl replied almost instantly, “Great I’m at my mother’s place 'll be waiting for you.
Sherry replied to him with an ‘okay” before she went on to check other unread texts. Most of the texts were from her department. “OMG! Sherry used to be married, and her ex-husband is John Stockton of Glenchester?!”
“| heard they have a three-year-old daughter as well. So cute!”
“Of course, the girl is cute. Look at Sherry!”
“| heard Master Stockton is young, handsome, and reliable. He’s as good, or even better than, Carl Sager.”
“Hmm, Master Stockton is indeed better than Young Master Carl.”
“Yeah. Why did Sherry divorce him in the first place?”
As the discussion went on, the group started to be curious about her past relationship with John. They all forgot that she was supposed to be engaged to Carl today and even ignored the fact that John had just ruined the ceremony.
Sherry pursed her lips. She did not know whether she should be happy because they were not talking about Carl, or be depressed because they were talking about her and John’s relationship.
She did not reply at all. She simply went through the chat before returning to her phone’s homepage to order takeaway. She was. not in the mood to buy ingredients for the stupid man to cook.
She selected a restaurant with good reviews and ordered some food for her and Caprice. Then, she accompanied Caprice to watch cartoons.
On the other end of the couch, the man was on his phone. He was checking his work-related messages from Peter and some other messages from other parties. He went through the messages one by one, and during the interval, he would sneak a glance at Sherry.
Ding. His phone buzzed.
Sherry was watching a cartoon with Caprice, so he pulled his attraction away from her and concentrated on the newly received message.
It was from Aiden. He had actually received a call from Aiden on the way back but declined the
call. It was an apology from Aiden.
“Master Stockton, Caden and | are morons for not being able to recognize you. If we offended your by any means, please forgive our ignorance. If it’s possible, we would like to meet you again and apologize to you in person. Do you have the time to meet?”
It was just a glance before he swiped the chat window away and returned to the homepage.
His handsome face was expressionless. He then leaned back and stared at Sherry. His lips curled into a delightful smile. The living room was quiet except for the cartoon’s sound.
Some time later, knocks came from the door.
Sherry threw John a glance, and he tacitly understood her. He got up and answered the door.
It was the delivery guy with the takeaway Sherry ordered.
He took the food, placed them on the table, and said to the mother and daughter, “It’s time for lunch.”
Chapter 1712
Chapter 1712 Caprice lifted her plump face and hummed a reply.
Maybe because the girl was hungry, she did not even need Sherry to carry her to the table. She crawled out of the couch, waddled her way to John, and reached out to him with her arms open, asking him to carry her up.
John carried her up and placed her on the baby chair.
Sherry sat down at the table. Similar to Caprice, she picked up the cutlery and started eating. After a silent meal, Caprice continued watching cartoons before she yawned.
Sherry carried the girl into the room.
“Caprice, take a nap if you are sleepy.”
Caprice refused to let go of her mother despite the fact that she could barely keep her eyes open. She grumbled, “Caprice wants to sleep with Mommy.”
Sherry smiled. “Okay.” She got onto the bed with the girl and hummed her a lullaby. Awhile later, Caprice fell asleep soundly.
Sherry laid down for a little longer before she tucked the girl in and got off the bed. She changed out of her dress from the engagement ceremony to something more casual. She put on a pair of socks and sneakers and tied her hair before she grabbed her purse and went out of the room.
John was in the living room. He furrowed her brows when Sherry came out with her purse.
“Where are you going?”
Sherry ignored him. Instead, she said, “Caprice is asleep. Stay here and watch her.”
He went over to the door and leaned against it with a grin on his face. “Where are you going?”
Sherry glared at him coldly. “I can go wherever | want. Get out of my way.”
John remained still. “If you don’t tell me, | won’t move.”
The irritation and frustration rushed into her mind instantly. Her expression turned frosty. “This is my house.”
She granted him entry because of Caprice, yet the man had the nerve to threaten her and stop her from going out. “| know. Tell me where you are going, and | will move,” he said with a soft smile.
Sherry clenched her fists tightly. Carl and Lisa were waiting for her. She did not want to waste time with the man. She sighed heavily and said, “I’m going to meet Carl and Lisa.”
“Why are you meeting them? Are you still trying to get engaged to Carl?” the man asked with narrowed eyes.
Sherry was running low on patience. She bellowed, “It’s none of your fucking business!” Disheartened, John stayed quiet for a while before he said, “Sherry, have you forgotten my present from earlier?” Sherry choked on his answer and glared at him.
John curled his lips. “We are still legally husband and wife, yet you are trying to get engaged to another man. Even if | allow it, the law won't.”
The law?
How dare he talk about the law in front of her?
Sherry scoffed. “The law didn’t give you the right to imprison me after | saved your mother. You have no fucking right.” As soon as her words subsided, the apartment became quiet.
The man frowned and pursed his lips.
Sherry inhaled deeply and said, “Move.”
Chapter 1713
Chapter 1713 His thin lips moved and said, “I was wrong. It was my fault for blaming you.”
Sherry’s rage was ignited by his words. She lost control of her emotions and shouted, “I don’t want to hear any of this! Get the hell out of my face!”
Even after she shouted at him, John showed no intention of moving.
Sherry pushed him. She wanted to shove him to the side, but he grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her into his arms. He curled his arms around her and hugged her tightly.
Sherry struggled as hard as she could while she felt like she was being pierced by a thousand. needles. She hated being so intimate with him.
“Let me go!” she shouted.
He hugged her as tight as he could and said in a small voice in her ear, “Sherry, I’ve learned the truth about what happened nine years ago. I’m sorry. | was wrong. | mistreated you for all these years.”
His expression grew bitter as he apologized. Sherry froze before she uncontrollably scoffed. She had forgotten about nine years ago if he did not bring it up.
In order to make him return to his family and stop him from suffering with her, she had gone through a lot just to break up with him. In the end, not only was she terribly hurt, but he had even resented her for so many years.
The reason why Julie’s scheme was able to succeed was because of John’s resentment of her. It was because of the trauma from nine years ago that he no longer trusted her.
He learned the truth in an untimely manner. Now that she had decided to cut all ties with him, he came haunting her. How ironic.
Sherry smiled helplessly. “That’s ages ago. I’ve forgotten about it.”
She continued shoving him. She wanted him to disappear from her face and never appear before her again. However, the stronger she struggled and pushed, the tighter he hugged her.
Sherry mustered all her strength but failed to even make him budge. She lost her strength after struggling for a while and she could no longer shout. She scoffed and said softly, “John Stockton, what is the meaning of this?”
“| don’t want you to go find Carl,” he said.
She could not see his face, but she heard his trembling voice clearly in her ears.
“| won't allow you to find him either,” he added.
Sherry’s chest tightened. She wished she had the strength to beat the man to death, but she sounded helpless when she pleaded to be freed. “Let me go.”
“I'll let you go if you don’t go to him.”
Sherry pursed her lips. “John Stockton, do you know how disgusting you are right now?”
John frowned.
“| feel disgusted when you touch me,” she said coldly.
He used to imprison her, hated her, and forced her to eat grass on the lawn. Now, he hugged her tightly and refused to let her go. He has no right to do this to her!
The apartment plunged into silence.
Asecond after her words subsided, he released her. He looked at her with bloodshot eyes that were hiding behind his golden- framed glasses.
Sherry had fair skin. Her frosty look made her look like snow in the winter, and it set off her bloodshot eyes filled with hatred.
The man was petrified. He gulped and asked in a hoarse voice, “Do you really have to go find him?” “Yes. Please stay out of my way,” she said coldly.
He pursed his lips. “Sherry, we haven't legally divorced. Even if you are engaged with him, you can’t marry him.” Sherry looked into his eyes and said calmly, “In order to marry him, | must first divorce you.” John was disheartened. He asked, “You are planning to be engaged to him, then divorce me before you marry him?”
“Yes,” she said.
Chapter 1714
Chapter 1714 Things went silent for a moment.
John looked at her with teary eyes. He forced his lips to curl and then asked, “What about Caprice? Are you going to abandon her?”
Sherry’s eyes teared up. She averted his questioning gaze immediately and inhaled deeply to regulate her emotions. “I'll just pretend | never gave birth to her ”
With her capabilities, she could never get Caprice’s custody from John. Besides, Caprice had been living with John since her birth, and she relied on him a lot more Sherry had to cut ties with her previous marriage once and for all because it was her only option.
“Hmph...” John scoffed helplessly as he choked on his emotions. He never thought she would reject him so resolutely. He was at a loss for words.
Sherry frowned heavily. She endured the stinging pain in her chest and said, “Move” “Fine...” John finally moved from the door.
Right when she was about to turn the handle, she heard whimpers from behind her Sherry’s heart clenched as she turned around.
The door to the room was opened into a seam and Caprice’s petite body was standing there with pouty lips and teary eyes. After the initial whimpers, she burst into tears. She cried louder and louder.
Sherry’s heart clenched tightly as if it was stung.
“Caprice...” she muttered.
Even the man beside her furrowed his brows.
Before the man and woman could react, Caprice opened the door and waddled over to them.
She cried as she waddled forth. She hugged Sherry’s leg as hard as she could and grumbled,” Mommy, don’t leave Caprice! Mommy, don’t go! | don’t want you to go... Sobs... Sobs...”
Every word she said in her sobbing tone was a knife to Sherry’s heart. Sherry could not bear to leave the girl. As she choked on her emotions, she squatted down and carried the girl into her arms.
Caprice hugged her tightly and continued to whimper, “Mommy, please don’t go. | will stop Daddy from bullying you. | will be a good girl. Please don’t leave me... Sobs...”
Sherry’s heart clenched tightly. She patted the girl’s back to calm her down. A few moments later, she sighed and said, “Okay, okay. Mommy won't leave Caprice.”
Caprice’s crying softened inmediately, but her eyes and nose remained red. She cried so hard
that she started to run out of breath. “Mommy... Sniff... You won’t leave Caprice?”
The girl looked adorable and pitiful.
Sherry immediately said, “Yes, my baby. I’m just venting my anger at Daddy. Mommy won't leave you.”
“Sniff... What about Daddy? Are you still going to get a divorce from Daddy?” Caprice stared at her with big teary eyes. Sherry was silenced once more.
The man stared at her deeply.
Awhile later, Sherry then said, “Caprice, Mommy and Daddy can’t stay together anymore...”
Before she could finish, the girl burst out into tears once more.
“Mommy is a liar! Mommy is going to divorce Daddy and leave Caprice! Mommy is leaving Caprice ... Sobs...”
Sherry was silenced again. She glared at John, signaling him to calm the girl down. However, the man simply stared at her blankly as if his soul had left his body.
Chapter 1715
Sherry called him, “Explain it to Caprice now!”
Not only did John lose focus, but he even turned a deaf ear to her. He simply stood there, petrified. Bastard!
Caprice cried even louder.
Sherry had never seen the girl cry this fiercely. She was afraid that the crying would affect the girl’s health. She carried the girl to the couch and patted her back, trying to console her.
“Caprice, | want you to listen to me carefully. Even if Mommy and Daddy are separated, | will still go see you whenever | can. | guarantee you that | won't leave you.”
“Sniff...” The girl paused her crying and stared at her mother with bloodshot eyes. “Will you come to see me everyday?” Sherry pursed her lips in silence.
After the divorce, she would probably stay in Coastrock and continue her career. The best she could do was fly over to Glenchester once a week to visit the girl. It was unrealistic and impossible to see the girl everyday.
Caprice took her silence as a denial and started crying again. She cried her lungs out until even her voice turned hoarse. If she continued, she would probably damage her vocal cords.
Sherry’s heart clenched tightly. Then, she bit the bullet and said, “Okay, okay! Mommy is not going to divorce Daddy! No divorce!”
Caprice stopped crying immediately “Really?”
The man’s blank eyes suddenly shimmered in hope.
Sherry nodded. “Yes. No divorce.”
Caprice pouted and finally stopped crying, but she was still sniffling.
Sherry continued patting the girl’s back.
The girl sat on her lap and leaned onto her arms. “Mommy, Caprice will be a good girl.” Sherry finally smiled. “I know.”
After Caprice stopped sniffling, Sherry sighed a breath of relief
The girl was probably awoken by the argument, and once she finally calmed down, she started to feel sleepy again. Sherry wanted to carry the girl into the room, but as soon as she got up from the couch, the girl clung to her neck tightly. The girl said, “Mommy, don’t go.”
Sherry consoled her, “Mommy is not going anywhere. | just have to go out to do something, and ll
be back before you know it.”
The girl clung to her mother when she learned that her mother insisted on going out. She said in a hurry, “Mommy, don’t go. Caprice doesn’t want you to go.”
Just when Sherry wanted to explain further, the man finally recovered his composure.
He came over with a smile on his face and said, “Sherry, you just promised Caprice that you are not getting a divorce with me. Why do you still want to go out?”
Sherry was frustrated once again. She had never seen such a shameless man!
Caprice cried a river, and he decided to play dumb, hence forcing her to agree to not get a
divorce. Now that the dust had settled, he came over to take advantage of her again.
Sherry lost her patience. She shouted, “I'll go out whenever | want to go out!”
Her shout startled the girl once again.
Before the girl broke out in tears again, Sherry consoled her, “I’m sorry, Caprice. I’m shouting because he made me mad.” Caprice’s eyes remained teary, and her lips pouted. “But Mommy is going.”
“I'm just going out to have a talk with Uncle Carl and his mother.”
“Uncle Carl likes Mommy and the engagement today is him being together with Mommy forever.”
John slyly seized the moment and explained the word ‘engagement’ to Caprice.
“Sobs... Mommy is still going to leave Caprice and divorce Daddy...”
Sherry was rendered speechless.
