Chapter 1706

Not only was he not mad, but he even pushed the box closer to Sherry with the most elegant smile. He then opened the box. Almost instinctively, Sherry took a step backward with Caprice. Then, she saw a piece of paper in the box.

It was folded multiple times and stuffed into the ring slot.

Sherry spotted the words on the edge: marriage certificate. Her expression changed, and she immediately snatched the box away.

John said, “That’s a copy.”

In other words, he had withheld the original copy and could give her as many copies as she could snatch or throw away Sherry stared at him.

John smiled. “The ceremony is still going on, right? Are you going to complete it with Young Master Carl?”

Sherry choked on her emotions. Disgust rushed into her mind while her eyes were bloodshot.

The man was being a jerk!

How could he threaten her with a copy of the marriage certificate?

Carl asked, “Sis, what did he give you?”

Sherry glared at John and said with gritted teeth. “A piece of useless paper.

John simply smiled.

Awhile later, the awkwardness was shattered by Caprice’s adorable voice again. “Daddy, what is an engagement?” She had heard her father say it multiple times to her mother since they came in, and she could not understand what it meant. Sherry choked on her words.

John’s expression changed and said to the girl with a smile, “I don’t know either Why don’t you ask Mommy?”

Sherry almost cursed him out loud. She was aware of the girl looking at her with the most curious gaze. She gulped and said with a stiff smile, “I'll explain it to you when we get back.”

The girl simply hummed a reply.

Before Sherry could catch a breath, John asked, “So, are you going to complete the engagement. ceremony with Young Master Carl?”

Sherry frowned hard.

Before she could come up with a solution, Madam Sager got up and bellowed, “No! This cannot continue! Even if | die, | won't let a married woman who has a child step through my door!”

The crowd turned to her immediately, including John and Sherry

Ada was beside her, helping her stand up. Her wrinkled face looked even more ferocious with her boiling anger It was as though she was going to have a heart attack.

Anne came over, looking worried. “Mother, calm down. Don’t be agitated. It’s bad for your health.”

Madam Sager wore a stern look and glared at Sherry. “Stop trying to talk me out of it. If you people don’t stop this ceremony at once, | will die on the spot!”

Anne responded with a helpless look.

Ron sighed. He turned to Sherry and said, “Sherry, why didn’t you tell us that you used to be married before?”

Sherry pursed her lips in silence. She had no words in her mind. She only agreed to be engaged to Carl because she wanted to help him take over the company. The engagement party was just show to the family.

She never thought of telling them that she used to be married to John.

Now that her secret was exposed, the engagement ceremony could no longer continue, and there was nothing else for her to say.

The atmosphere grew awkward once more. Just when everyone switched their attention to Sherry, Carl said, “I know about this.” His words captivated everyone's attention.

He stood beside Sherry and looked at Ron and Anne. With a firm tone, he said, “I know she used to be married before, but | don’t care!”

Both Ron and Anne were shocked.

 

Chapter 1707

Ada could no longer stay quiet. She said, “Carl, even if her ex-husband is Master Stockton, she used to be married! She’s out of your league!”

Carl's gaze turned cold. John turned to Ada with a vicious grin. “Who might this be?”

Maybe Carl's frosty gaze scared her, or maybe because she was afraid of John’s vicious smile, Ada immediately averted their gazes.

Anne threw a warning glare at her before she said to John, “Master Stockon, she’s my brother’s daughter. My brother and his wife rarely have the time to educate her. Please forgive her impoliteness.”

John smiled. “Mr. Wright, your niece really needs someone to teach her where her place is. Please educate her properly.”

Any one of the Sagers could call out Sherry’s past marriage, but not Ada.

Why would an outsider have the right to lecture Sherry?

Ron responded nervously, “Yes, | will. Thank you for the advice. | will educate her about manners properly when we get home.” Ada reacted in grievance, but John’s aura was too strong, so strong that even Ron dared not talk back to him, hence her sulking. Lisa’s complicated reaction shifted multiple times, and so did Carl’s.

The other guests dared not say a word as well.

Sherry remained still and silent with Caprice in her arms.

It was then that Madam Sager said, “Judging from your tone, Master Stockton, you seem to have lingering feelings for your ex- wife.”

Compared to when she glared at Sherry, Madam Sager looked warm and kind when she spoke to John. John smiled and said, “You are right, Madam Sager. | do still have feelings for her.”

His words left everyone speechless, even Madam Sager. She did not expect John to admit his feelings brazenly and without embarrassment.

Sherry exasperatedly sighed and glared at the back of his head.

Madam Sager scoffed. “If you still care about her, why don’t you take her away? The Sagers have no place for such a woman.” John continued srniling. “You are right. With Sherry’s capabilities, the Sagers do not deserve her at

all.”

His words once again rendered everyone speechless and stunned Sherry.

What did he just say?

However, the man managed to get the situation under control.

Madam Sager might not be happy with him, but she dared not vent her anger brazenly either. She smiled and said, “Then, please take her away.”

“| really want to, but | wonder if Mrs. Sager and Young Master Carl agree.” He then looked at Lisa and Carl.

Lisa reacted with a complicated look. She did not answer. Instead, she looked at Carl. Carl glared at John coldly. “I dis-” “I'll leave with you,” Sherry said to John before Carl could finish his sentence.

John had threatened her with the marriage certificate whereas Madam Sager had threatened her with her life, which left her no options.

Lisa and Carl were helpless against the situation either. No matter how much Carl disagreed, he could not change the situation. Sherry did not want to put him in a difficult place, so she took the initiative to put an end to this farce.

Then, she went over to John with Caprice in her arms.

The entire hall was quiet as Madam Sager sighed a breath of relief.

Ron and Anne were secretly delighted.

The guests watched quietly, and so did Lisa.

Carl clenched his fists. He wanted to pull Sherry over, but before he could even touch her, she was pulled into John’s arms.

Chapter 1708

Carl glared at John. “Let her go!”

John curled his lips. “Young Master Carl, if you have the capabilities to shut your family up, it wouldn't have ended like this.”

Carl flushed with gritted teeth.

The others were silenced as well.

Only Ron and Anne showed a hint of mockery and disdain in their expressions.

John was practically calling Carl useless for not being capable enough to convince Madam Sager and the others.

Lisa sighed.

The entire hall plunged into silence. No one dared to speak another word.

John then looked at Lisa. “Mrs. Sager, please excuse Sherry and I.”

Lisa looked at Sherry.

Sherry then said, “I’m sorry, Lisa. Let's talk later.”

Lisa nodded and said in a rather hoarse voice, “Okay.”

Without further ado, Sherry carried Caprice and left the hall with John following behind her. They swiftly disappeared beyond the crowd's sight.

Carl was left petrified and aggrieved on the spot, watching as John took Sherry away from him.

Right when the two of them almost disappeared from his sight, John wanted to chase after. Sherry, but Lisa held him back before he could take a step forward. She held his arm tightly, but unlike her previous strict tone, she said to him in a gentle and soft manner, “Let’s go, Carl.”

Carl's eyes were bloodshot. “Mom...” He did not want to lose Sherry just like that.

Lisa sighed. “There’s nothing you can do even if you chase after her. Just listen to me.”

Carl closed his eyes and stopped moving.

The hall returned to silence as the guests wisely kept their mouths shut.

Ron and Anne and their sons grinned as they gloated over Carl and Lisa.

Anne wore a scornful grin and said, “Who would have thought Sherry’s ex-husband would be Master Stockton of Glenchester?”

Ron held his urge to laugh back and feigned a sigh. “Carl, you are young compared to Master Stockton. Why don’t you forget about Sherry?”

Anyone with a sane mind could tell that they were mocking Carl, calling him inferior to John.

Carl glared at them coldly. His charming eyes were bloodshot.

Anne, Ron, and their sons instinctively flickered their eyes when they saw the expression on Carl. However, as soon as the thought of Carl being a useless playboy rushed into their minds, they wore scornful looks on their faces.

Aiden said, “Carl, why are you looking at us like that? | admit that we revealed those pictures, but we are doing this for your own good. We want you to see who Sherry really is.”

Carl did not answer. He simply stared at their faces ferociously. A while later, he curled his lips. and grinned. “Just you wait.” He shook his mother’s hand off and strode out of the hall.

Lisa narrowed her eyes. She also glared at Ron and his family before she went after Carl.

Sherry and John had left the woods, escaping from the crowd.

Sherry glared at him. “Take your dirty hands off me!”

John pursed his lips and retracted his hands from her back.

Caprice was in Sherry’s arms, and she saw her mother yell at her father. Startled, her petite body

shook.

Sherry then realized a pair of teary eyes was looking at her. She was then aware of the girl’s gaze and quickly calmed herself down.

The girl pouted after her mother calmed down and said, “Mommy, you look so fierce.”

Sherry said, “It was Daddy who made me mad. | didn’t yell on purpose.”

Chapter 1709

She could not hold her anger back anymore.

Caprice’s eyes flickered. “Did Daddy bully you again?”

Sherry did not want her relationship with John affecting the girl, so she said, “No. | just don’t like. him.”

Caprice was baffled

John, who was listening by the side, simply curled his lips. His car was just a little further away from the woods. When they finally came out from the woods, Jason came down from the car and opened the door. for them. Sherry carried Caprice into the car and simply sat down at the side without moving in further, looking arrogant. John smiled. He went to the other side of the car and got in

Soon, the car drove out of the estate and headed to the city center it was quiet inside the car

Sherry was still disgusted by the man’s presence She either looked outside the window or looked at Caprice in her arms. She did not even spare a glance at the man, let alone talk to him.

John simply leaned back lazily and stared at her with a bewitching gaze.

Apart from him, even Caprice, who was on her lap, stared at her with widened eyes She looked at Sherry’s hair and then at her makeup before she lowered her gaze to the dress.

The girl then curled her lips as she stared at the sequin dress. She said in her adorable voice, Mommy, you look so beautiful today.”

Sherry’s frustration faded a little when she met the girl’s innocent eyes. She stroked the girl’s cheek and said, “Thank you, Caprice.”

Caprice smiled. “You are welcome, Mommy.” Sherry hugged the girl tightly. The man beside her continued to stare at her, showing no intention of moving his gaze away.

Caprice’s words slightly disheartened him. He then sized Sherry up from top to bottom. His lips curled and said, “You are really gorgeous.”

Instantly, the faded frustration returned. She glared at him, but he looked at her with a gentle and bewitching smile.

Sherry wanted to strangle him alive, but she did not want to scare the girl on her lap. She tried her best in adjusting her emotions and mouthed with her lips, “Just you wait!”

John smiled. “I have always been waiting for you.”

Sherry choked and almost suffocated at his answer.

Right before she lost her breath, the girl’s soft hands touched her face. “Mommy, don’t be mad at Daddy.”

What else could Sherry do?

Nothing. She simply swallowed and stomached her grievance and frustration. She simply turned away from John. Soon, the car reached Sherry’s apartment and entered the designated parking lot.

The sports car that Carl gave her was still parked there with the cover on.

Sherry frowned. She looked away and headed to the elevator with Caprice.

John followed them.

When the elevator door opened, Sherry strode out of the elevator with Caprice, leaving John slightly surprised.

Sherry strode back to her apartment as though she was a fleeing thief. In the blink of an eye, she reached her door, opened it, and went in with Caprice.

Before John could even get close, the door was slammed shut, obviously denying his entry.

 

Chapter 1710

Chapter 1710 She was probably mad at him for ruining her engagement with Carl.

John’s eyes looked disheartened but only for a moment. He curled his lips, and even his golden- framed glasses could not hide the delight in his eyes.

Sherry might be mad at him, but she could no longer be with Carl.

He headed to the door, leaned against the wall, and waited silently.

Inside the house, after Sherry shut the door, Caprice pouted. “Mommy, Daddy hasn’t come in.” Sherry said, “He doesn’t want to come in.”

Caprice was small, but she was not an idiot. She protruded her lips and said, “You didn’t let him in.” Sherry pursed her lips, trying to come up with an excuse to fool the little girl.

The girl hugged her mother’s neck and buried her face in it, nuzzling as she said, “Mommy, Daddy isn’t doing this on purpose. Please let him in, please.”

The girl’s soft cheeks tickled Sherry’s neck. Her adorable voice softened her heart and eased her anger. She sighed helplessly and said, “Fine. I'll open the door.”

Caprice immediately kissed her on the cheek.

Sherry smiled. She opened the door, and the man walked in straightaway.

Sherry took a few steps back and glared at him coldly before she headed to the couch with Caprice. Caprice winked at her father, and he smiled at her.

John then walked to the couch and sat at the furthest spot from Sherry.

Since the girl loved to watch cartoons, Sherry pulled her phone out and wanted to search for a suitable cartoon for the girl to watch.

However, as soon as she turned on her phone, she saw a dozen missed calls and texts. Her phone had buzzed multiple times on the way back, probably because of the engagement party.

A few moments of silence later, she glared at John who looked baffled.

Sherry glanced at the tablet by his side, signaling him to bring it over.

John smiled. He picked up the tablet and gave it to her. She grabbed it, and he returned to his

seat.

Sherry played a cartoon for Caprice to entertain her.

Before Sherry passed the girl the entire tablet, the girl had already leaned back against her, and her eyes were fixated on the screen.

Sherry went on her phone.

There were several missed calls from Carl and Lisa, plus her assistant. She checked all the texts she received.

Carl had texted her a few times, basically trying to find out where she went or what John had done

to her.

Sherry replied, “Carl, | just got home. Don’t worry. He just wanted to ruin our engagement. He didn’t do anything to me.” Carl replied almost instantly, “I'll go find you now!”

“It's okay. Stay with Lisa. I’ve already had lunch. I'll go find you guys when Caprice is asleep.”

“Are you really safe now? Did he do anything to you?”

Sherry suddenly thought of when Carl had saved her from the burning house.
