Chapter 1721 When night rolled around, they heard sounds coming from the bedroom. Sherry hurriedly put aside the laptop and went to the bedroom.
As soon as she pushed the door open, she saw Caprice sitting on the floor next to the bed, her hair looked like a freshly made bird nest.
She must have lost her footing when she tried to crawl out of bed and ended up tumbling onto the floor. She was not crying. If anything, she looked like she had barely come to her senses after having just woken up.
The moment she saw Sherry entering the room, a light entered her eyes at last. She instantly sprang to life and stretched her hands outward as she cried, “Mommy!”
Sherry quickly went to her and took her into his arms.
Caprice gleefully wrapped her arms around Sherry and pressed her cheeks against Sherry’s, showering her with affection. Sherry smiled and asked, “Caprice, are you hungry?”
Caprice muttered, “A little bit.”
“What do you want to eat?”
“Anything tasty!”
Sherry smiled upon hearing this.
Fortunately, the child was never a picky eater. She would eat anything as long as it tasted good, so it made it easy to feed her. She walked out of the room with Caprice resting on her shoulder.
The first thing she did was hand Caprice some snacks to stay off hunger for now. After that, she got her phone and ordered some fresh groceries.
Just like she did the past few days.
After the ingredients arrived, John went to the kitchen to cook for them.
Sherry watched cartoons with Caprice while waiting for John to prepare dinner for them.
Before long, the fragrant smell of food seeped out of the kitchen.
Sherry gulped.
Caprice had lost interest in the cartoon at this point. She climbed off the couch and hopped her way to the kitchen like a frog. Sherry followed behind her.
Caprice propped herself on her tiptoes and looked at the tasty dishes set on the kitchen island.
She sneakily stuck a hand out and nabbed a tiny piece of shrimp from one of the plates, then she tossed it into her mouth. Even when she was being a sneaky little thief, she was adorable.
When she noticed John glancing at her, she immediately tucked her hands behind her and played
it off.
John seemed to not notice that she had stolen a bite, he asked her with a gentle smile, “Caprice, what are you doing here in the kitchen?”
Caprice wiped the grease from her mouth and said with an unchanging expression, “I came to see Daddy.”
John smiled. “I see, it’s very oily in the kitchen. Why don’t you wait out there? Daddy will be done in
a minute.”
Caprice nodded gladly and went outside when she was told that food will be ready momentarily. As soon as she turned toward the dining table, she saw Sherry standing in front of her.
Something sparked in her eyes.
Sherry squinted suspiciously at her.
Caprice immediately realized that her mother saw her stealing food. She threw herself at Sherry and began leveraging her charms again. “Mommy!”
She was perfectly aware that she had been caught.
Sherry gently patted her head. “Mommy will pretend that she didn’t see anything, but don’t ever do that again, understand?” Caprice smiled. “Understood.”
Sherry picked her up with a warm smile and took her to the washroom.
She helped Caprice wash the grease off her fingers from when she stole the piece of shrimp.
Inside the kitchen, John quietly gazed at the figures of the pair of mother and daughter. He chuckled to himself before plating the final dish.
By the time Sherry and Caprice stepped out of the washroom, dinner was already set on the dining table.
Caprice’s eyes beamed with joy.
Sherry put Caprice into the chair, then she went into the kitchen and helped scoop out bowls of soup, one serving for everyone. John was taken aback by this and stared at her as if starstruck
It was rather surprising to him that Sherry would voluntarily step into the kitchen to help him.
Chapter 1722
Sherry shot a sideway glance at him. “What are you looking at? I’m just doing this because Caprice is hungry.” She said as she brought bowls of soup to the dining table.
John chuckled heartily.
Meanwhile, Caprice had already begun eating without them. She held a pair of spoon and fork like trusty weapons and her mouth was bulging with food.
Sherry made a look as she sat next to Caprice. She put a bowl of noodles in front of her and reminded her. “Caprice, eat slowly. Here, have some noodles.”
Caprice did as she was told. She made sure to chew her food thoroughly before she moved on to the bowl of noodles After ensuring that Caprice had slowed down her pace, Sherry began eating as well.
The food was delicious. John could easily become a professional chef.
It was no surprise that Caprice snuck a piece of shrimp just now as she simply could not wait. Even Sherry ate more than she would otherwise usually eat.
“How’s the food?” John suddenly asked.
Sherry looked up and met a pair of gentle eyes staring back at her.
She suddenly felt a bulge of irritation inside her.
Before she could answer, Caprice cried out, “It’s delicious!”
John was still staring at Sherry. He was determined to get feedback out of her.
Sherry hesitated for a moment, then grumbled, “It’s okay.”
John smiled.
After dinner, Sherry took Caprice into the bedroom and helped her shower before putting her to bed.
They played some games and she read some bedtime stories to Caprice until the child fell asleep. Sherry pecked a gentle kiss on Caprice’s forehead before preparing to leave.
She wanted to check if John had left. She was going to take a shower and prepare for bed.
She approached the door.
Just as she was about to grab the door handle, she suddenly heard a muffled ringtone from the other end of the door. She withdrew her hand.
On the other side of the door.
John was leaning against the door the entire time. The second his phone rang, he promptly answered it and put the phone to his ear, answering in a hushed and sharp voice, “What do you want?”
It was Jason on the phone. “Young Master Stockton, it’s Aiden and Caden. They’re here again and they're at the lobby of the hotel waiting for you.”
John hissed. “Tell the hotel staff to kick them out.” Jason answered dutifully, “Alright, sir.”
John hung up.
He glanced at the door and observed the lights spilling out from the gap, then he left. The bodyguard who had just finished cleaning the kitchen followed after him when he noticed John leaving.
Inside the bedroom, Sherry remained standing by the door. She only plucked the courage to open the door after she heard the men leave.
Sure enough, John was gone. She closed the door again, then she went to the bathroom for a quick shower.
After that, she crawled back to bed and cuddled with Caprice, preparing to settle in for the night. However, something was troubling her and she could not fall asleep.
She had put her ears close to the door during the phone call and heard what Jason had told John on the phone.
She wagered that Aiden and Caden were the ones to approach John back then. They must have mistakenly assumed that he was her ex-husband, which led to the ploy they formulated after that.
She was aware that John had intentionally sabotaged the engagement ceremony, but he had not done it to help Aiden and Caden. If that was what he had intended, he would not have flaunted his identity as the great Master Stockton hailing from Glanchester.
In one prudent move, he successfully got in the way of her engagement with Carl while also ensuring that Ron, Aiden, and Caden could not get what they wanted. If anything, it further cemented her position in Sager Corporation.

She was going to bring these tasty waffles to Sherry yesterday afternoon along with her father. Sherry was shocked to hear this. Yesterday?
She recalled seeing Caprice and John while she was driving to Lisa’s place yesterday. She remembered seeing Caprice in John’s arms, cheerfully going on about something while eating. something.

As soon as she stepped into the office tower, she spotted several shareholders and some department leaders mingling with each other.

There was to be an important monthly meeting where the leaders of each department had to provide an elaborate report of the upcoming projects and establish proper communications.
The marketing department managed by Sherry was one of the most important divisions inside Sager Corporation. Her assigned seat was right next to Lisa’s. On Lisa’s left was Ron, followed by Aiden and other department leaders.
As usual, Sherry was the first to present. She gave an overview of the new projects coming in, which included two major projects that Carl managed to finalize with their partners last week.
As she went on about the two major projects, nearly everyone present at the meeting seemed very impressed about the terms agreed upon and the scope of the project as a whole. The only ones who seemed rather detached and disinterested were Ron and Aiden.
Someone suddenly asked, “President Sherry, were you the one who ended up striking up these deals again?”
Sherry looked around the table and announced with a smile, “Actually, I’ve been very busy with other matters over the last week. It was Carl who negotiated these terms by himself.”

She looked around and wondered where Carl was. She had come into today’s meeting fully intending to let Carl take the spotlight and show what he was capable of. However, he was nowhere to be seen and would not even answer her calls.
The meeting resumed when someone at the table mentioned, “Alright, let’s focus on these two major projects going forward.” “Certainly, this is a big deal. We're going to have to schedule more meetings later on and work out the finer details.” “That’s right.”
After most of them had presented their monthly reports, Lisa interjected, “Alright, let’s wrap this up as quick as we can so the lot of you can get back to work.”
“Alright, President Lisa.” Within an hour, everything was concluded. Lisa dismissed the meeting.
Sherry stood up and exchanged eye contact with Lisa, a faint smile hanging on her lips. With that, they stepped out of the conference room together with the other members involved in the meeting.
As soon as they walked outside, they crossed paths with Aiden.
Aiden lowered his voice and asked, “President Sherry, was it truly Carl who handled the negotiations for these projects by himself?”
He made sure that he still spoke just loud enough so that people nearby could hear. As expected, many of them deliberately stopped and began listening in on their conversation.
Sherry smiled and assured him calmly, “His name is on the contract along with the date of signing. You'll find that during the date of signing, most of us were busy with other tasks, myself included. If you still don’t believe me, just read the contract yourself.”
Aiden was baffled. The ones who still had lingering doubts were utterly convinced by this point and quickly marched away.
Sherry was going to head back to her office, but Aiden came up to her again and stopped her with a pandering smile. “President Sherry, | must apologize for what happened back there.
“Even though | ruined your engagement with Carl, | must say that it could be a blessing in disguise in hindsight. You see, a wonderful woman of your stature should aim for someone better than the likes of Carl. Your ex-husband was the perfect fit for you.”
When he brought up Sherry’s ex-husband, a viperous look gleamed in his eyes.
Sherry smiled courteously. “Aiden, before John showed up, you said completely different things about our engagement.”
Aiden stiffened.
Sherry confronted him. “I remember you saying that a woman of my background who was once married and had children did not deserve Carl and that there was no justification that | should be allowed to wed into the Sagers. As a matter of fact, it was only two days ago, do you happen to have amnesia?”
Aiden turned pale. “Sherry, you...” Sherry cocked an eyebrow. “What about me?”
“You better watch your tone or else you'll regret it.” Aiden hissed, his face turning black as he did his best to conceal the venomous spite in his voice. “It’s only a matter of time before my family takes over Sager Corporation. Just because Carl lucked out on those two major deals, that doesn’t give him the right to take charge around here.
“Lisa was an old widow and an outsider to boot. Most of the shareholders have been waiting to get rid of her. If you know what’s good for you, you'd switch to our side before it’s too late. If you humor me enough, | just might consider letting you keep your position after | take over as the president of the corporation. Consider it my token of respect toward your husband.”
He made these claims as if he had already won and as if he had already taken over the corporation in his mind. Sherry smiled sarcastically. “Aiden, where did you get all this confidence from? You, the next president of Sager Corporation?” Aiden glared at her venomously and warned her gravely. “Sherry, you better show some respect.”
Sherry only scoffed as she drew a step closer to him. She bore a sharp look into his eyes and mocked him, “Forget about you, not even your father has what it takes to man a corporation as large as Sager Corporation.”

Sherry paused for a moment before flaring up again. “You, your brother, and your father are completely useless. The only thing you guys are good at is suckering up to those shareholders.”
Aiden roared. “Sherry, you b*tch!” He raised his hand and it looked like he was going to strike Sherry.
Sherry did not cower in fear. Instead, she raised her voice. “Aiden, if you even place a finger on me, | can assure you that I'll have you kicked out of the corporation by the end of the day.”
The shareholders may be very prideful and think too highly of themselves to acknowledge Sherry, but one way or another, business was a very practical matter. At the end of the day, Sherry was the one who brought in the profit. They would have to bow to her whether they like it or not.

Lisa assured him. “You don’t have to worry about that. Also, even if Carl gets passed over, you're not going to be the next one in line.”,

She approached the familiar corridor.
While she was waiting for the elevator, several nasty-looking men appeared from the corner and began approaching her. They were dressed like common street thugs.
Sherry frowned upon noticing them and tried to keep her distance.
Still, they continued to approach her.
She quickly realized that they were coming for her, so she turned and prepared to run.
It was too late. One of the men swung a bat against her feet, producing a loud crack that reverberated across the corridor.
She shrieked in pain and crumbled to the ground.
