Chapter 1751

“Ron is the only one who would believe that you love him.” Carl took a step back. He wore an amused look on his face the entire time but it was clear that there was nothing but stark disdain in his eyes as he looked at the mistress. “Don’t look at me like that. I've seen countless types of women and you're the type that | hate the most.”

Willow froze and did not know how to respond.

Carl ignored her, then he turned around and went toward the parking lot. Anne had brought the two children to her car.

Ron, on the other hand, was carried into Carl’s car.

Two of his bodyguards carried him and shoved him into the backseat.

Carl was not in any particular hurry to leave. As he slowly approached his car, he shot a casual glance at a stationary vehicle parked nearby.

He made eye contact with Sherry through the car windows.

He winked at her.

Sherry jerked backward.

With that, Carl got into his car.

Soon, both his car and Anne’s drove out of the compound.

After their cars were gone, Willow got up at last.

Sherry and Lisa were just about to leave when they noticed Willow from the corner of their eye.

They noticed that her demeanor was a drastic transformation from her sorrowful display only minutes ago. She rose with a celebratory smirk on her face and a vicious look in her eyes.

Sherry already had a hint that this was the mistress’ true nature, but it was still astonishing to witness it in person. Lisa noticed the same thing and remarked sarcastically, “Ron sure is a lucky man.”

After his divorce from Anne, his beloved mistress would surely bring him nothing but comfort.

Things were going to be rather chaotic in the Sager household for a while after such a massive scandal.

Lisa had a lot of work on her plate.

Sherry parted ways with Lisa after they returned to Sager Tower. She drove back to her place by herself.

The wound in her calf was largely recovered by now. She had no trouble walking and only had to avoid strenuous exercises. After she parked her car, she went to the elevator and chose the floor.

She stepped out of the elevator after the doors opened.

Although it seemed as if nothing had changed in her life, she was feeling rather somber and depressed.

That was, until she heard Caprice’s bright voice. “Mommy!”

She looked in front.

On the other end of the corridor was a slender figure of a man facing her with a child in his arms.

Caprice hopped down and began prancing toward her mother.

She was not a very fast runner but she was running as fast as she could, carrying all that body mass with her.

In an instant, Sherry felt much better.

As Caprice got closer, she bent over and prepared to take Caprice into her arms. Thump!

Caprice threw her full weight into her.

Sherry was nearly knocked over by the tremendous impact.

She sniffed the familiar, distinct smell on Caprice and embraced her tightly as if her life depended on it. She gave Caprice a big smooch on the cheeks.

Caprice grinned from ear to ear and pecked her mother on the cheek.

Sherry got up and began approaching her front door. She cast a glance at John who was waiting outside, then she asked Caprice, “Caprice, have you had anything to eat with Daddy?”

Caprice chirped. “We ate! We brought some delicious takeaway for you!”

As she said this, John held up a delicately packed container filled with food and showed it to her. Sherry made a look.

She stopped in front of John.

John smiled and spoke in a warm, comforting tone, “Caprice ordered this for you.” Caprice nodded proudly.

 

Chapter 1752

Sherry wore a quiet frown. She briskly opened the door and stepped inside the house with Caprice in her arms. John followed her into the house with the food in hand.

He placed the container on the table and opened it, releasing the aroma of the food into the house.

He turned to Sherry and repeated the same thing. “Caprice ordered these for you, come on and eat.”

Caprice urged her to eat as well. “Mommy, it’s very tasty, come on and eat it!”

Sherry hesitated briefly, then she approached with Caprice still in her arms.

John noticed her apprehension and immediately stepped away from the dining table and retreated to the couch in the living room.

Sherry sat down at the dining table with Caprice on her lap.

It was a gourmet meal with a vast variety of seafood, chicken, and pork ribs. Aside from that, Caprice even ordered drinks and dessert that she knew her mother would like.

The food was mouth-watering.

Even though Caprice already ate, she still gulped when she looked at the food.

Sherry smiled when she noticed the hungry glow in Caprice’s eyes and gave her a piece of pork rib. Caprice immediately began gnawing at it.

Sherry grabbed the utensils and dug in as well.

Her mind was still replaying what she saw just now at Ron’s villa. Her appetite was ruined the moment she thought of the exchange she witnessed.

Caprice was still nibbling the pork rib when she noticed that her mother stopped eating. She seemed concerned and asked with a puzzled look, “Mommy, why aren’t you eating?”

This caught the attention of John who was sitting on the couch as well. Sherry smiled softly and remarked, “Mommy is kind of full.” Caprice did not have much to say as her attention was occupied by the piece of pork rib in her hand.

Sherry silently looked at Caprice sitting on her lap, nibbling away at the pork rib like a hamster, and smiled. She always felt better whenever she was with Caprice.

Soon, Caprice finished eating.

Her hands and lips were stained with grease.

Sherry took her to the bathroom to help her clean up and ended up having Caprice take a shower. After that, she tucked her into a set of pink pajamas.

She put Caprice to bed and read some short stories for her until the child fell asleep.

After that, she stepped out of the bedroom.

John was standing right outside.

Sherry stumbled into him the moment she opened the door.

Her expression was much more reserved and amiable compared to when she saw John when she stepped out of the elevator just now. She informed him mechanically, “Caprice is asleep, you should head back.”

John looked at her with a gentle and longing look in his eyes. He did not utter a word but Sherry could tell he was hesitant to leave.

She frowned.

Just as she was about to shoo him out of the house, he spoke, “I just want you to know that I’m nothing like Ron.” Sherry was taken aback by this. She looked at him, feeling slightly offended. “You had someone spy on me?” How else would he know about what happened this afternoon?

John stared into her eyes and spoke sincerely, “I’m not spying on you. My men are keeping an eye on you to keep you safe.”

Sherry felt her voice caught in her throat. It took her some effort to spit out the words. “Get out, ! want to sleep.” “Alright,” he said with a tired smile and bade farewell in a gentle voice, “Good night.”

With that, he turned and left.

He gently, carefully shut the front door after he left.

Sherry frowned sullenly.

She went to take a long shower. She splashed water over her face several times to try to rinse out the sinking, suffocating feeling to no avail.

She ended up heading back to bed and snuggled with Caprice.

It was very comfortable snuggling in bed with Caprice.

Just like that, Sherry’s irritable mood was soothed.

She thought about what John told her, that he was nothing like Ron.

It was true. Ron was an egoistic, arrogant scumbag who took pride in his cheating. John did not have such flaws. However, he did his fair share of horrible things to her in the past.

She remembered what happened when Shannon conspired against her several years back. It ended with her being locked in the house by John like a caged animal for many torturous months. There was another similar episode only several months back with Julie, that ended with her nearly getting burned alive in the middle of nowhere.

Although it was not his intention to harm her, he was largely responsible for everything that happened! He was responsible for her trauma!

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, she clenched her teeth unknowingly.

The only way she managed to calm herself was by looking at her calm sleeping expression of Caprice. She kissed Caprice several times to settle her restlessness.

Chapter 1753

Sherry woke up at the crack of dawn before the alarm went off.

She woke up with an irritable feeling in her chest. The accumulated emotions from yesterday had carried over. She got out of bed, showered, and dressed as usual.

When Caprice woke up, she helped Caprice shower and helped her dress as well.

With that, she led Caprice outside.

John was already waiting for them by the entrance as usual. When he noticed the pair stepping out of the house, he greeted them with a warm and charming smile, “Morning.”

‘Morning my *ss!’

Sherry shot an unnecessarily rude glare at him, then she continued trotting away without acknowledging him. John grimaced and followed.

They went to Caprice’s favorite breakfast place.

Sherry sat down and put Caprice on her lap.

John went to order food for them before joining them at the table.

“You look like you're in a bad mood. Did you not sleep well last night?” he asked innocently. Caprice made a look at him, sensing that he had provoked her mother.

Sherry glared at him icily. “Let’s not talk.”

She was indeed in a bad mood.

John zipped his lips.

Soon, the waiter brought over the food John had ordered.

He ordered Caprice’s favorite waffles along with some other breakfast selections.

Sherry let Caprice help herself to the waffles and began eating herself as well.

By the time she had her fill, Caprice was only a couple of nibbles into her waffle. John had only taken a couple of bites as well and barely drank his coffee.

Sherry got up and went to pay for the meal.

She had to wait for a while before the pair finished with their breakfast.

Sherry picked up Caprice and spoke to her softly, “Caprice, Mommy has to go to work now.”

Caprice bid farewell to her reluctantly, “Goodbye Mommy.”

Sherry handed her to John, then she went to her car and left without sparing so much as a glance in his direction. John stood outside the restaurant with Caprice in his arms. They watched quietly as Sherry’s car

drove off into the distance.

Caprice suddenly asked in a sulky tone, “Daddy, did you make Mommy angry again?”

John made a look and did not answer.

He was sure he had not done anything to make her angry. On the contrary, he had been doing everything he could to appease her.

“Mommy left without kissing me.” Caprice was very vocal when she was upset, she turned to John with a sulky look. “It’s all your fault!”

There was not much that John could say.

Somehow, tales of Ron’s scandal made their rounds in Sager Corporation.

As soon as Sherry got out of the car and stepped into the tower, she overheard two of the receptionists gossiping with each other. “Have you heard? They're saying that Madam Sager is about to give President Ron the boot.”

“What's it about this time? Did he get caught cheating again?”

“| heard that he’s got a mistress out there that he’s had two children with.”

“My God! Illegitimate children? How disgraceful!”

“Tell me about it! I’d kick him out too if | was Anne. Actually, I'd have done it decades ago.”

“Is Anne going to divorce him?”

“Oh, definitely. | have this uncle who is close friends with Aiden so he has some insider information. Apparently, Madam Sager was so furious when she heard about President Ron fathering illegitimate children that she passed out. She’s still in the hospital now. President Ron isn’t even allowed to go home now.”

“Well, they’re getting divorced for sure. It wouldn’t surprise me if he gets fired as well.”

“That’s right. At this point, he and his sons shouldn’t even dream about wrestling the corporation away from Young Master Sager.”

Sherry was shocked to hear this.

If she had to guess, Madam Sager was probably upset because Ron had hit her beloved daughter.

It was certainly true that Ron would get kicked out of Sager Corporation if the divorce were to go through.

Lisa and Carl had delivered a fatal blow to Ron, so she did not see any scenario where Ron could come back from this.

She wondered how they found out about his mistress and the two children. She was impressed. She was still processing the dramatic events that had happened lately.

Chapter 1754

Without Ron, Aiden, and Caden around, there was a marked improvement in terms of work

efficiency throughout the company. This improvement was not only seen in Sherry’s department but in other departments as well. Lisa and Carl rarely showed up over the next few days as they were busy dealing with the aftermath of the scandal.

Sherry only saw Lisa once over the next two days and never saw Carl at all.

Fortunately, the details of the two projects he signed on had been worked out. The departments were coordinating as they should and things were progressing smoothly.

Sherry returned to her usual routine. She would go to work every day and return home on time where she would spend time with Caprice before they went to bed. She hardly paid any attention to John.

This evening, Sherry left the office as usual after she finished up her work for the day.

She drove past several junctions and swerved into the apartment compound where she lived. After she got out of the car, she prepared to head into the lobby when she heard Caprice’s voice crying out after her. “Mommy!”

She turned around instinctively and noticed two figures underneath a streetlight nearby.

She spotted John first. He was wearing a white shirt paired with black trousers, and he looked dashing as usual.

He held Caprice’s hand.

The child had a red bow tied on the top of her head and was wearing a bright red skirt paired with pretty red leather shoes. She slung a tiny pouch over her shoulder.

She was adorable when she was dressed up. It seemed like she was going somewhere with John. Sherry approached them with an affectionate smile and held her hand out toward Caprice. Caprice took her hand and threw herself into her arms. She looked up and asked eagerly,” Mommy, there’s a festival tonight, do you want to go together?”

A festival?

Sherry suddenly recalled that Coastrock held a special festival annually. Every year during the festival, there would be countless sightseeing opportunities and the streets would be lively.

Seeing that Caprice was already all dressed up and ready to go, Sherry knew she could not refuse. She smiled warmly and accepted the invitation. “Okay, let’s go.”

With that, they went into the car.

John followed. He watched as Sherry climbed into the backseat with Caprice, then he went to the driver's seat. He started the car, put his hands on the steering wheel, and they were on their way in no time.

Caprice lay cozily in Sherry’s arms and stared at the view outside quietly.

Sherry was looking at the child instead of the view outside.

It was very quiet in the car.

Soon, they arrived at a famous local street near the coastline.

The street was bustling with activity already. People got to enjoy the ambiance of the street life while also enjoying the wonderful and natural view of the sea.

Lanterns of various colors were hung wherever they went

Various combinations of colored bulbs were used to beautify the streetscape and added an artistic touch to the ambiance. Apart from stores that sold all kinds of goods, there were also street vendors selling all sorts of street food.

Sherry led Caprice down the street and gaped at the vendors.

John followed them silently.

Caprice was a big fan of all sorts of trinkets, so she was immediately mesmerized by a particular toy and gestured at it. “I want this!”

Sherry took out her wallet and paid for it, then she glanced at John.

John stepped forward and helped them take their first purchase of the night, and they continued walking down the street. They went from one end of the street to the other in no time.

Toward the end, John’s hands were fully occupied with countless shopping bags.

Caprice was clutching several strange trinkets herself as well.

Sherry assumed that Caprice had had enough shopping by this point and prepared to get something for them to eat.

Just as she was about to take Caprice to the other street where they could find food, something caught Caprice’s attention. She gestured at a store with countless bracelets on display and shouted, “I want those!”

Sherry turned toward where Caprice was pointing at.

The stall had countless bracelets on display out in front. At first glance, it seemed like the bracelets came in pairs and were meant for adults judging by their size.

Sherry was about to tell Caprice that the bracelets were too big for her tiny wrists when the stall owner explained to her, “Little girl, these are a couple’s bracelets that my wife made. These would be good for your parents but I’m afraid they’re not for you.”

The stall owner was a kind elderly man with a healthy waft of white hair. The way he smiled made him seem very approachable. Caprice was fascinated and told the old man, “Il want them!”

The old man smiled and asked, “You can’t wear them, honey. Why would you want them?” Caprice smiled and announced proudly, “I want to give them to Mommy and Daddy!”

 

Chapter 1755

Sherry flinched.

John smirked.

The old man commended Caprice with a pleasant smile, “What a thoughtful girl. Go ahead and choose a pair you like.” Caprice climbed off Sherry’s arms.

The counter was just a little too tall for her.

She could barely look at the designs but clutched at them nonetheless, and she ended up taking nearly two dozen bracelets. She seemed very satisfied with her choice and announced, “I'll be taking this!”

Sherry remained silent the entire while.

The old stall owner was enchanted by the child’s adorable and innocent demeanor.

John stepped forward and thanked the old man with a smile, “We'll have it in a bag, thank you.”

The old man obliged. “Alright.”

He took out a bag and tossed the brackets Caprice picked out into the bag.

John’s hands were full at this point so Sherry ended up having to take the bag for him. She made sure to pay for it as well. After that, she took Caprice into her arms again. The child was beaming with pride.

The stall owner was grinning from ear to ear as he waved goodbye to her. “Goodbye, little girl. May you and your parents be happy together forever!”

Caprice was overjoyed to hear this and thanked him warmly, “Thank you, uncle! Bye-bye!”

Sherry wore a soft frown, she took Caprice and led her toward the adjacent street where food was sold. There was a subtle and strange look in John’s eyes as he followed after the pair.

After they finished touring the adjacent street, Sherry was getting tired.

They bought some snacks and took Caprice to a well-decorated restaurant in the area.

Sherry’s arms were getting tired from carrying Caprice around all night. After the waiter gave them the menu, she let John take Caprice while she picked up the menu to order for them.

She flipped through the pages and chose carefully.

She did not notice Caprice reaching for the bag next to her that contained the couple’s bracelets she had bought. After a while, she suddenly felt something strapping against her wrist.

She was caught off guard by the sensation and turned to inspect.

That was when she saw Caprice strapping a bracelet on her wrist.

After she strapped the first one, she strapped on another one.

Then came yet another until finally, there were ten bracelets strapped on her wrist.

She smiled at Sherry and seemed very impressed with her handiwork.

Sherry smiled and wanted to commend Caprice for her effort when John’s wrist entered her line of sight as he placed his arm across the table.

She immediately noticed the bracelets strapped on his arm.

John also had as many as ten bracelets put on his arm. They were packed densely together like. an armguard. John remarked kindly, “Those bracelets look good on you.”

Sherry gave him a hostile glare as if to tell him to keep his mouth shut.

She wanted to take off the bracelets.

Caprice noticed and immediately stopped her. “Mommy, you’re not allowed to take them off, and Daddy can’t take them off either! None of you are allowed to take them off!”

Sherry had no choice but to give up on the idea.

John turned to her and smiled coyly, then he gave his word to Caprice. “Okay, Daddy promised to keep them on.” Sherry glared at him.

After watching a fireworks show at the beach, Sherry took Caprice and John to the car and drove back to her place. Caprice fell asleep on the way.

The rest of the drive was spent in silence.

Soon, Sherry parked the car.

After she got out of the car, she shot a look at John that seemed to indicate that he should go on back to the hotel without following them. With that, she took Caprice and prepared to head back

home.

There was a row of trash cans against the wall of the parking lot.

The bundle of bracelets that had been dangling on her wrists for a while now was beginning to bother her. They were an eyesore.

When she passed the trash can, she stopped and hesitated.
