Ch. 1761..1765
Chapter 1761
Sherry hid outside the door, gulping as she watched the girl munching on her food. It was then she sensed a gaze on her.
She looked up and met John’s gaze. The man was looking at her with a smile.
Embarrassed, Sherry quickly turned away and sat back on the couch. She picked up the tablet and played a cartoon on it, pretending that she was watching.
It was raining like cats and dogs outside, which formed a contrast to the quiet environment indoors.
The smell of food from the tablet stimulated her saliva. She had lost count of how many times she gulped because of the temptation.
Then, Caprice’s chubby figure waddled towards her from the kitchen. She was holding two pieces of meatloaf in each hand, one bitten into and one still fresh.
She handed the fresh one to Sherry. “Mommy, Daddy made this for you. It’s delicious!” Sherry was surprised. Caprice pushed the meatloaf closer to tempt her.
Since the girl had taken the effort to deliver it, she might as well accept it. Sherry took a bite. The juiciness and tenderness of the meat pleasured her taste buds.
It took her two bites and a few munches to devour it whole.
Caprice, who had been munching on hers since a while ago, was stunned by how fast her mother gobbled down the meatloaf. Sherry’s eyes flickered. She patted the girl’s head and said, “Thank you. It tastes really good.”
Caprice curled her lips. “Daddy made it.”
Sherry cleared her throat awkwardly and stayed quiet.
The girl then waddled back to the kitchen and said to her father, “Daddy, Mommy says your meatloaf is delicious. Give her one more.”
Sherry was rendered speechless. She did not know whether to feel happy because the girl was caring or speechless because of the awkwardness. She was at a loss for action.
Awhile later, the girl came back with two more pieces of meatloaf. She gave Sherry two of them.” Mommy, here.”
Sherry pursed her lips. Since it was Caprice who delivered them, she accepted them.
The storm raged outdoors, but the environment indoors was comfortable and warm.
Maybe due to his talent, John was an amazing cook. Caprice never stopped eating, and neither
did Sherry. The dishes served on the table were all devoured.
The girl’s stomach bloated after the meal.
Sherry was full as well but she would never let the man know. She carried Caprice to the window and stood there for a while. The rain splashed on the window, adding a layer of blurriness to the wavering bushes and trees outside. The rumbling thunder in the sky created a gloomy mood.
Sherry thought the girl would be afraid of thunder, but the girl widened her eyes curiously and sized up the gloomy sky. She even pointed at the waving tree and grumbled, “Mommy, the wind is so strong. The tree is about to fall down.”
Sherry hummed a reply. It was indeed strong.
Aclap of thunder sounded, startling the girl.
As the girl immediately hugged her mother, Sherry covered the girl’s ears.
The thunder sounded like it was going to crack the earth in half.
Sherry then carried the girl into the room to bathe her and put her to bed.
John then came out from the kitchen and said softly, “You guys rest early. I'm going back.” As soon as his words subsided, another clap of thunder sounded.
Caprice immediately covered her ears.
Sherry reluctantly said, “It’s raining cats and dogs outside. You can stay here until the rain stops.”
Chapter 1762
John’s eyes brightened with joy. He said, “It seems like the storm is not stopping anytime soon.”
Sherry furrowed her brows.
It was raining cats and dogs outside, and she had no idea where John lived, so it would be dangerous for him to go back now. Irritated, she said, “Then, you can stay here for the night.”
John curled his lips. Even Caprice giggled out of delight.
Sherry added, “The couch is yours.”
She only had one room in her apartment, and there was no way she would let the man sleep on the same bed.
John smiled and said, “Of course.”
Caprice squealed happily, “Yay! Caprice can finally sleep with Daddy!” It had been a while since the girl slept with her father. Sherry was instantly rendered speechless.
John said, “Why don’t you guys take the bed and | can sleep on the floor?”
Sherry glared at him. “No way!”
Right after Sherry bathed Caprice, the girl ran out to John.
Sherry came out with a blanket. She said to Caprice, who was dozing off in John’s arms, “You guys can take the bed. I'll take the couch.”
She would never let her precious baby girl sleep on the couch. She sat down on the couch, but John pursed his lips. Caprice grumbled, “Why is Mommy sleeping on the couch?”
The bed in the room was big enough to sleep three.
Sherry simply came up with an excuse and said, “Your Daddy snores. | can’t sleep with him.”
Caprice could barely keep her eyes open, but she complained almost instinctively, “Daddy doesn’t snore. Mommy snores.” Sherry was speechless.
John curled his lips. He said, “Caprice, Mommy doesn’t want to disturb us with her snoring.”
Caprice simply hummed a reply and closed her eyes.
Sherry glared at John.
John smiled at her. “I'll bring Caprice in.”
Sherry lay down on the couch without answering.
The living room soon returned to silence except for the howling wind, the thrumming rain, and rumbling thunder outside. It was dark. Sherry somehow felt afraid of being alone in the living room. The lights were left on, and she hid under the blanket on the couch.
She only started to doze off when the thunder stopped.
At the same time, the bedroom door opened and the man came out. He walked to the couch, squatted down, and looked at her quiet face. He whispered, “Sherry, Caprice is asleep. You can go in now.”
The only answer he got was the rain and wind outside. She was fast asleep.
He smiled. He stroked her cheek and called her name, “Sherry?”
Sherry’s quiet face looked much more adorable than her usual cold look.
He gulped nervously. He lowered himself further and locked lips with her.
Her lips were soft and felt good. It was so enchanting that he wanted the kiss to last forever, but his sanity pulled him back. If the kiss woke her up, he would not just get two punches in his face, but she might even throw him out of the house.
He had gone through a lot to finally stay in the house for the night. He could not let his efforts go to vain. He got up after a few light kisses. Then, he carried her up from the couch and got into the bedroom. Caprice was sleeping on the bed with her limbs spread eagle.
He put Sherry by Caprice’s side, tucked them in, and went out. He switched off the lights and slept on the couch that Sherry slept on earlier.
The next day, the ringing alarm woke Sherry up.
Chapter 1763
Chapter 1763 When she got up, she looked around and was slightly confused.
While she was trying to wrap her head around the situation, Caprice’s adorable voice came from outside, so Sherry got out of bed.
The girl was already dressed and had just come back with John. The table was filled with a luxurious breakfast spread, and the girl was eating a bun in John’s arms.
When the father and daughter heard the door opening, they turned to her.
Caprice’s eyes gleamed. She called out adorably, “Mommy, you are awake!”
John smiled. “Morning.”
Sherry’s eyes flickered. “How did | end up in the bedroom?” She clearly remembered sleeping on the couch last night. John said with a smile, “I carried you in.”
Sherry frowned.
John added, “I slept on the couch last night.” What he wanted to say was that he did not sleep
with her on the same bed.
Sherry was not particularly angry, but she hummed reluctantly as a reply. She walked over to the table and asked, “How much are all these?”
“There’s a receipt there.”
Sherry picked it up and gasped in shock.
Three thousand! Three thousand just for breakfast!
She glared at him.
John smiled. “You don’t have to give it back.”
“|... have money,” she argued. She instantly regretted it as her words subsided. She could afford an expensive meal once in a while but every day?
It would cause her heart and her purse to bleed.
She wanted to save money to buy Caprice a big house in the future. The Sagers paid her well, but she was just a worker with a higher position.
However, she swore to never eat the food that the man bought. She had to show some dignity in front of money and food. Sherry glared at him before she transferred him the money for the meal: 3,100 in total.
John asked with a curious smile, “Is that a tip?”
Sherry lifted her chin. “Consider it the delivery fee.”
John chuckled. “Thank you, Ms. Fowler.”
Sherry grunted. She sat down and had the breakfast that she just ‘bought’.
The weather had been terrible recently. Storms happened more frequently than usual.
On the second night, Sherry toughened up and sent John on the road.
However, the ceaseless rain outside the window made her feel bad for the entire night. The next day, she woke up before the alarm. She went to the door to check if John had arrived.
As soon as she opened the door, John entered her sight. He wore an extra vest outside his shirt, and his hair and shoulder were slightly wet, seemingly because of the rain. He looked paler than yesterday.
Sherry was shocked.
John smiled at her and greeted her gently as usual, “Morning.”
Sherry furrowed her brows. Judging from his voice, he must have caught a cold. Was it because of the rain last night? “What’s wrong?” John asked when he noticed Sherry staring at him.
Sherry put her emotions away and replied coldly, “Nothing.”
She went inside the house; John followed.
Sherry went to the bathroom to wash herself up. When she came out of the bathroom, Caprice woke up. She helped the girl to wash up before bringing her outside.
John was having a glass of warm water when they came out.
Caprice wanted to run to John, but he said, “Caprice, don’t come near me. I’ve got a cold.”
Chapter 1764
Caprice stopped running immediately. She looked up at her father and asked in a worried tone,” Daddy, how did you catch a cold?”
Sherry looked away and turned a deaf ear.
John glanced at her and then said to Caprice, “Maybe because | got wet in the rain last night.” He added, “Don’t worry, Caprice. I've taken medicine. I'll be healthy in no time.”
Caprice hummed a reply. She waddled forth to her father, crawled up to his arms, and touched his forehead with her warm little hands. “Caprice gives you warmth.”
John smiled. “Thank you, Caprice.” “You are welcome, Daddy.”
Irritated, Sherry pursed her lips. She pulled her phone out and located the breakfast shop that John had ordered from yesterday. She ordered extra soup after getting the mains, and since she did not want him to think that she got the soup just for him, she got three bowls of the same soup.
The day went by in the blink of an eye.
Sherry got caught up in work and came back an hour later than usual.
John and Caprice were already waiting for her with a table of freshly bought ingredients. Sherry looked at the receipt.
7,000.
She thought the man would spend 10,000 on ingredients again, but the lesser amount calmed her down. She transferred him 7,100 in total.
After dinner, Sherry played with Caprice for a while while John read a book by their side. When Caprice started to doze off, John got up and said to Sherry, “You guys should go rest now. I'll go back now.” Sherry had a glance outside the window. It was gloomy, but it was not raining.
Right before she could say a word, Caprice, who should be dozing off, widened her eyes and grumbled, “Daddy caught a cold. Don't go. It’s windy outside.”
Sherry had no idea how Caprice knew that when one had a cold, one should stay out of cold weather. She said to the girl, “Daddy is a big man now. A little wind is fine-”
“A-choo!” John sneezed before Sherry could finish, leaving her speechless. He pursed his lips, looking innocent. Caprice hugged Sherry’s neck and said, “Daddy is sick. Don’t let him go back, Mommy.”
The girl did not only plead on behalf of her father, but her eyes were even tearing up. If John stepped out of the door, the girl would probably burst into tears.
Sherry did not want Caprice to cry. Since it was cold outside, it would be terrible if John’s condition worsened. “Okay. Okay. Mommy won't make him go,” Sherry said reluctantly.
Caprice happily nuzzled against her cheek.
Sherry stroked the girl’s head and said to John, “You can stay tonight.”
John smiled. “Okay.”
Sherry carried Caprice into the room before she brought dry pillows and blankets out to the couch.
John said, “Thank you.”
She ignored him and went into the room.
To Sherry’s surprise, John’s cold worsened instead of getting better, so she had to let him stay for a couple of days.
When his condition got better, Caprice could no longer bear being separated from her father. As soon as he said he wanted to leave, the girl’s eyes would tear up and it would break Sherry’s heart.
Sherry could not help but let John stay. She even set up a folding bed for John in the living room. Sherry and Caprice slept in the bedroom while John took the living room.
The next day, Sherry woke up half an hour earlier than usual.
Chapter 1765
Sherry went to the bathroom to wash up before she went out.
When she opened the door, she saw the man dressing up in front of her. He had his pants on and was putting on his shirt. The first light shone through the window and highlighted his slender and fit physique.
Sherry’s eyes widened.
John turned around at the same time.
Flustered, her eyes flickered. She bellowed, “Why are you dressing up now?!”
John replied with a smile, “I usually wake up around this hour to get dressed.” He buttoned his shirt as he spoke, covering his beautiful body underneath the shirt.
Sherry regained her calm and said, “Do not put on your shirt here.” He asked, “Then, where should | wear my shirt?”
Sherry had no answer to his question. Her apartment was by no means huge. There was only a living room, a kitchen, and her own room.
Telling John to get dressed in the kitchen would not seem to work either.
Amoment of silence later, she unreasonably said, “I don’t care. | don’t want to see you getting dressed.” She then went back into her room.
John smiled at the shut door.
She was obviously flustered and enjoyed looking at his body. It was just that she did not want to admit it just yet. Sherry went to the bathroom to wash her face once more.
Awhile later, Caprice woke up. Sherry cleaned the girl up before bringing her out.
John was outside the door, well dressed. He had his golden-framed glasses on, adding a layer of gentleness to his enchanting eyes.
“Morning,” he said.
Blushed, she said, “Caprice and | are done. You can go in now.”
She only had one bathroom in her apartment, and it was inside her room.
“Okay,” he said.
Sherry carried Caprice to the couch.
Similar to a few days before, after John cleaned up himself, the three of them went out for breakfast.
After breakfast, Caprice was put in John’s care while Sherry drove her car to the office. As soon as she parked her car, she ran into a situation.
Besides her, even the other employees who had just arrived at the place were also captivated and were watching from the corners.
In front of the company building was Ada crying a river as she went chasing after Carl. She tried to hold his hand but was mercilessly shoved away.
Carl looked disgusted. “I never liked you before, and it won't change now or in the future. If you have some dignity left, get the hell out of my face.” Carl was a playboy, but he had always been a gentleman towards women. If he could say such harsh words to Ada in public, it
must mean that she had been troubling him for a while.
Maybe because Carl was being too hard or because Ada was simply too weak, she fell on the ground after the push. Aggrieved, she cried, “Carl, you know my feelings! | really like you!”
“Hmph! Ada Wright, we've barely even spoken and you claim that you like me? What do you see in me? My looks or my identity?” Carl was both amused and annoyed by her at the same time.
Looks?
Sherry reacted strangely when she heard Carl.
Ada looked at him sincerely and said, “I like you as a person!”
“If | were poor and ugly, would you still like me?” Carl asked.
Ada was stunned for a moment. She then nodded and said, “Yes! | like you no matter what you are or who you become!” Carl rolled his eyes. He scoffed, “Your lies might only work on ghosts.”
He wanted to leave, but Ade stopped him once more.
Carl predicted her movement. He said to the security guard at the side, “If she still follows me, throw her out on the road.”
