Ch. 1781..1785
Chapter 1781
Sherry felt a surge of joy gurgling within her, and she smiled.
“Sherry.” She heard Queenie’s voice calling out her name from behind.
She was slightly startled and quickly turned around. “What is it?”
Queenie seemed to be second-guessing herself. “Um... | wanted to talk to you for a second.” She looked like a child who had done something wrong and was afraid of being told off.
This caught Sherry’s attention. “Go ahead.”
“Can we step outside real quick?” Queenie tugged at Sherry’s sleeve.
Sherry made a look, then she glanced at John.
John smiled and spoke softly, “Go ahead, please ask Peter to come inside for me.”
Sherry and Queenie stepped out into the corridor.
After ensuring that there was no one in earshot, Sherry gave the go-ahead. “Go on, tell me what's on your mind.” Queenie hung her head low. “I wanted to apologize.”
Sherry was taken aback. “What are you apologizing for?”
“For slapping you back there, | was very nasty toward you.” Her voice trailed off into a mumble. Only then did Sherry understand what she was referring to.
It happened when Madam Stockton was rushed to the hospital after the accident. Back then, Queenie was incited by something Julie told her and misdirected her anger at Sherry. She had slapped Sherry right across the face the moment she got to the hospital.
Queenie hung her head lower and seemed like she wanted to bury herself into a hole. She felt incredibly remorseful.
Sherry did not realize that Queenie had been troubled over this for so long.
She forgave her with a smile. “Don’t worry, | almost forgot about it until you mentioned it.”
Queenie’s slap was nothing compared to the villainous hatred Julie bore toward her. It was nothing compared to what John had done to her after having been misled by Julie. As far as Sherry was concerned, the slap was nothing but a passing thought of no importance.
“It's alright, | remember hitting you this one time as well,” she remarked.
Queenie suddenly looked up with a puzzled look on her face. “When did you ever hit me?”
Sherry pursed her lips in thought. “I think it was a few years ago.”
Queenie grinned and announced, “In that case, we're even. You're not going to hold it against me in the future, are you?” Sherry assured her. “Of course, not.”
She had never borne any resentment toward Queenie.
Queenie laughed cheerfully and hugged Sherry tightly. “Sherry, you have no idea how much this has been
weighing on me lately. When | thought that you were burned alive in that house, | couldn’t even eat anything for several days after that!”
When she spoke, her voice quivered with joy and elation. Sherry smiled and gently patted Queenie on the back. “I understand.”
“Have you been thinking of me at all lately?” Queenie let go of her and presented the question out of nowhere.
Sherry tried to sound as convincing as possible. “Yes of course | have...”
After the traumatic episode with John, the only thing on her mind was to cut off contact with him entirely and leave behind everything and every person she knew back in Glanchester. She barely contacted or even thought of Sylvia at all, much less Queenie.
Queenie embraced her tightly. “I knew you'd think of me.”
Sherry smiled stiffly..
Now that there were more people gathered, the atmosphere inside the ward had become rather lively. Madam Stockton was all over Caprice.
Queenie bombarded Sherry with questions. She was curious to know about what had been happening to her lately and wanted to know the full story behind why someone would try to hurt her.
Sherry briefly provided an overview of the politics inside Sager Corporation and brushed the matter aside. She had been at the hospital over the last two days and barely had time to attend to her work.
Now that John’s condition was stable and Caprice had someone to look after her, there was less for her to worry about. She took her laptop to a quiet corner next to the window and buried her head into her work.
She worked until evening and at one point, Lisa showed up.
She did not expect to see so many people gathered in the ward and was visibly surprised when she stepped into the ward with her assistant. They brought baskets of fruits with them.
Madam Stockton and Queenie were also surprised to see Lisa.
Caprice was the only one who was unfazed by the situation. She cried out the moment she recognized Lisa. “Aunt Lisa!”
Chapter 1782
Lisa traced a motherly smile on her lips and greeted Caprice lovingly, “Hey!”
She made to approach Caprice after greeting her but quickly halted when she noticed Madam Stockton sitting next to Caprice. Sherry aptly rose from her seat and approached them.
She went up to Lisa and made the introductions. “Aunt Lisa, this is John’s mother, and that’s John’s sister, Queenie.”
Then, she turned to Madam Stockton and Queenie. “Madam Stockton, Queenie, Aunt Lisa is the chairman of Sager Corporation and also Carl's mother.”
Both Madam Stockton and Queenie rose and greeted her politely.
“So, you are the infamous Madam Sager, it’s good to see you.” Madam Stockton held her manners about her. Lisa responded kindly, “Good to see you as well, Madam Stockton.”
Queenie greeted her politely as well, “Hello, Madam Sager.”
Lisa was very courteous. “Hello there, Queenie.”
“Please, sit down.” Madam Stockton motioned.
Lisa nodded and approached Caprice.
As soon as she drew near to Caprice, she wrapped her arms tightly around the child and began smothering her with kisses. “Caprice, Grandma misses you so much!”
Caprice giggled and planted a big kiss on Lisa’s cheeks as well as she was overjoyed to see Lisa. Madam Stockton grimaced faintly, a bitter look of jealousy rose beneath the surface.
Caprice had never kissed her like this.
Queenie was just as startled by the sight of Caprice acting so friendly with Madam Sager. She did not expect the infamous Madam Sager to turn out to be such a kindly old lady.
Lisa must have sensed the faint turbulence in the air as well. After teasing Caprice a little while longer, she promptly put the child down. Then, she turned to Madam Stockton and Queenie. “Please, sit, don’t worry about me.”
Madam Stockton was very civil. “Come sit with us.”
“Unfortunately, | still have some business to deal with. | just happened to be in the area so | figured I’d swing by for a quick visit. | have to leave soon,” Lisa remarked as she approached Sherry.
She passed a bag to Sherry. “Sherry, | went shopping with some friends last night and bought you some outfits that | think you’d like. | also put some vitamin supplements inside the bag. You're going to need them since you haven't had much rest lately, you look pale.”
Sherry smiled and thanked her kindly, “I got it, Aunt Lisa. Go on, you have work to do.” “What's the rush? I’m not done here yet.” Lisa signaled a look at her assistant.
The assistant took the hint and promptly placed a large fruit basket on the table next to John’s bed. Then, she reached into the basket and produced a large plastic bag from inside.
Lisa announced proudly, “I had a friend who runs a toy factory to pick out some toys for me. If Caprice likes these toys, you know who to call. I'll get more for her.”
Sherry smiled and thanked her, “Alright, thank you.”
Lisa gently patted her on the shoulder. “Make sure you take care of yourself, call me if you need anything.” “OK.”
With that, Lisa turned and prepared to leave.
Before she was out the door, she turned to Madam Stockton and Queenie and acknowledged them with a smile. Then she turned to John who was laying on the bed. “Master Stockton, I’ll be leaving for now, see you.”
John smiled graciously. “I'll see you, Madam Sager.”
Lisa walked out. Her assistant promptly followed her.
Sherry was already used to Madam Sager’s eccentricity and did not think much of it. John had grown accustomed to the madam over the last two days as well.
It was Madam Stockton and Queenie who seemed caught in a daze, still reeling back from the bizarre character they had witnessed.
After a while, Queenie approached Sherry and asked, “Sherry, has Madam Sager always been so friendly with you?” Sherry was unpacking the bag of toys for Caprice and briefly nodded in response, it did not seem peculiar to her at all. Queenie smiled and remarked, “She's very kind.”
Sherry smiled and made no comments.
Lisa had always been very genuine and had a personality that lit up the room.
Ever since they became acquainted, Lisa had always doted on her. They grew even closer after Sherry had proved her worth and managed to help Sager Corporation out of countless crises, further cementing their relationship.
What Sherry took away from her relationship with Lisa was a level of appreciation for mutual trust with an elder.
However, not everyone had such a favorable impression of Lisa.
Chapter 1783
This was because Madam Sager was known for being ruthless and imposing. It was not just Carl who was always the subject of her temper, even the shareholders in the corporation found themselves on the wrong end of her outburst from time to time. They had been tolerating her for a while now.
Throughout the entire corporation, Sherry was probably the only one who was treated kindly by Madam Sager. The others barely knew what her smile looked like.
It went without saying that most of the senior members of the corporation revered and feared the madam. She was very vicious and even cruel at times but managed her image of a ‘wonderful leader’.
Sherry pried open the plastic bag containing toys.
The first thing she saw was a mini car modeled to resemble a pig, coated in bright pink paint.
It was adorable and exotic.
The moment Caprice saw it, she immediately lost interest in the plushie she had in her hand and tossed it aside. She bolted toward the car.
Sherry clicked a switch and turned it on.
Caprice burrowed herself into it and began driving.
It was designed to drive at a conservative speed so there was no worry of Caprice bumping into things. and hurting herself. She seemed to be enjoying it very much, she drove it straight to John’s hospital bed.
The rear wheel of the car jammed against the foot of the bed and got stuck.
She tried to steer left and right but could not wring herself free. She cried for help, “Daddy, the car is stuck.”
John expressed helplessly, “Sorry, | can’t help you, you'll have to ask Mommy for help.”
Caprice turned to Sherry and whimpered sheepishly, “Mommy...”
Sherry was occupied as well. “Mommy is busy now, ask Grandma to help you.”
Caprice turned to Madam Stockton and pleaded, “Grandma...”
Madam Stockton was ecstatic to help. She hurriedly sprang toward Caprice and helped her pull the car away from the bed. After that, she took a stroll next to the car and went outside with Caprice.
Sherry smiled and turned her attention back to what she was doing. She asked Queenie to sit with her and opened the bag Lisa gave to her.
It contained several boxes, all of which had the logo of a branded boutique printed on top. She did not have to open them to figure out the contents of the boxes. It must have been a variety of jewelry and dresses.
She opened some of the boxes of jewelry and saw shining, sparkling pieces of ruby and emeralds inside. They were polished to the extreme, each of them worth a fortune.
Apart from the branded apparel, there was also a box with bottles of vitamin supplements inside. She looked at the jewelry and motioned to Queenie. “Do you want any of these?”
Queenie swayed her head from side to side. “No, they're too flashy for me.”
Sherry glanced at a hairpin strapped with a bell tied around Queenie’s hair and smiled furtively. The ward was very packed, it was not meant for a large party.
Sherry’s one-bedroom apartment was not a suitable place to house Queenie and Madam Stockton either.
She ended up reserving a room at a nearby five-star hotel for them. Since it was getting late, she asked them to take Caprice to the hotel to catch up on some rest.
Both Madam Stockton and Queenie were more than eager to take Caprice with them. They went to the hotel accompanied by Aunt Wanda and Jason.
Alooming silence fell over the ward again after they all left. It was only Sherry and John left. “I'm thirsty,” John announced suddenly. Sherry asked grumpily, “Why didn’t you say that when the nurse came by?”
Madam Stockton, Queenie, and Aunt Wanda had only left five minutes ago. The nurse came by for al routine inspection and had only just left as well. She suspected that John was doing this intentionally to get on her nerves.
“| just happened to feel thirsty now,” John explained with an air of innocence about him. Reluctant as she was, she ended up pouring him a glass of warm water. She took the glass and approached the bed where she carefully set it down on the bedside table.
She turned around and prepared to head back to her seat.
That was when she felt his arm gripping tightly onto her wrist. Before she could react, she was pulled into the bed.
Chapter 1784
She was thrown into John’s arms with her body pressed up close against his.
Her face turned beet red immediately. She quickly pushed herself off the bed.
Before she was aware of what was happening, she felt a palm pressing down on the back of her head.
She only managed to push herself off John for a second, barely enough to gasp for air, before she was pressed toward him again. Their lips pressed closely against each other’s and sealed together in a fervent
kiss. He kissed her for several seconds before letting go of her head. Just when thought she could wring herself free at last, she noticed that John had held her hands tightly behind her back.
She flopped helplessly on top of him. In an instant, something vicious flared in her eyes as she shouted, ” You b*stard, get your stinky hands off me!”
“This bed is big enough for both of us, you can sleep with me tonight,” John said devilishly. Sherry rolled her eyes and shot down his advances without a second thought. “You’d wish.” She promised to forgive him, but she never said a word about getting intimate with him again! www
John squinted, his expression began to darken. “I only asked you to sleep here because I’m worried that you’d be uncomfortable sleeping on the recliner. Don’t worry, | can’t do anything to you in my current state anyway.
He playfully tapped Sherry on the forehead and teased her. “What, did you have something special in mind?” Sherry was speechless. Her cheeks were flushed red.
In a fit of embarrassment, she angrily thumped John on his shoulder. “I won’t sleep with you, let go!” Amid her outburst, she noticed that John winced for a split second. It looked like he was holding his back. She immediately came to her senses, and her demeanor shifted instantly. “What’s wrong? Did | hurt you?” John made a look and assured her. “It’s okay, it didn’t hurt much.”
Had she accidentally irritated his wounds? She grew anxious. “Let me go so | can call the doctor to take a look at you.”
“It's okay, you don’t need to get the doctor,” John said rather stoutly, “Besides, there’s no point calling the doctor, it’s not like they can make the pain stop. I'll get better in a few more days, don’t worry about it.”
Sherry was shocked to hear this. “Does your wound hurt all the time?”
“Yeah, but now that you’re by my side, | feel a lot better,” he said coyly.
She shot a look at him.
Without his glasses, the crook of his eyes seemed more pronounced than usual.
He seemed to carry himself with an air of solemnity. It was different from his usual snarky attitude that always seemed like he was up to no good.
Sherry stared at him for a while but could not detect any trace of any other emotion in his eyes.
It did not seem like he was lying.
“I'll sit with you for a while and rest after you fall asleep,” she suddenly announced.
“Why don’t you sleep with me?” he looked at her tenderly and spoke softly, “I don’t feel as much pain. when you’re with me. Sherry suddenly felt her heart skip a beat. It felt as if his words carried an effect like witchcraft, she found herself blurting out without realizing it, “Sure.”
John grinned widely and asked, “Do you want to sleep on the outside or inside?”
Sherry gave him a short look. “Outside.”
With that, John released her at last. He sat up and nudged himself into the inner edge of the bed to make room, making sure to give her plenty of space.
“Come.” He motioned. Sherry made a look. “Let me get a blanket.” There was only a single blanket on the bed that John was already using.

Chapter 1785
John propped up the laptop on his lap and put on his glasses. He fixed a sharp, focused look onto the screen.
Sherry finally allowed herself to lower her guard.
It did seem like all he wanted was just her presence on the bed with him, he was not up to anything perverted. It was late into the night by this point.
The rhythmical rattle of his fingers tapping against the keyboard had a certain hypnotizing tone to it. Soon, Sherry closed her eyes and drifted into sleep.
Amid her sleep, she rolled over on her back so she was no longer facing away from John. Soon, she rolled over again and lay facing him.
The desk lamp provided a soft and indirect glow to her face.
John tilted to his side and quietly gazed at her sleeping face. He smiled.
He picked up his pace of work to wrap things up as soon as possible.
Before long, he shut the laptop with a quiet thud and put it aside. Then, he turned off the lamp and slid into bed. He slowly edged to Sherry’s side and gently wrapped his arms around her, finally closing his eyes.
Meanwhile, Madam Stockton and Queenie have brought Caprice to the hotel.
It was a reputable five-star hotel located along the coast.
They were given the best room available.
The room offered a stupendous view and was furnished with the finest furniture, its entire presentation. seemed like something out of a magazine. It was the most premium hotel experience money could buy.
Although they have had their fair share of stays in luxury hotels, this was the first time they stayed in a hotel located by the sea. They were aware that Sherry had reserved the room for them before they even arrived at Coastrock. Although Sherry held a high position in Sager Corporation, her net worth was nowhere close to John’s.
They were initially going to reserve a hotel on their own, but Sherry went above and beyond and got one. of the best hotels available in the city for them, even making a point of giving them a deluxe room.
They were appalled by her generosity. Queenie turned to Jason who escorted them to the hotel. “Jason, are you sure this is the room Sherry got for us?”
Jason assured her. “Yes, this is the arrangement Mrs. Sherry made. | didn’t know that she had reserved this place either. | don’t think even Master Stockton knows about this.”
Queenie was intrigued by this. She turned to Madam Stockton and gave her a look. Madam Stockton smiled at her. There were three rooms in the suite.
Madam Stockton turned to Jason who was just about to leave and proposed, “Jason, why don’t you stay here too? I'll share a room with Queenie and Caprice, you and Wanda can use the other two rooms.”
Jason stuttered for a moment, “Ma’am, | don’t think-Mrs. Sherry has already reserved a room for me.” “Cancel the reservation.” Madam Stockton would not have it. “It's decided.”
After that, she took Queenie to the master bedroom with her.
Caprice had dozed off on the way here and was now sleeping soundly in Queenie’s arms.
Madam Stockton wanted to take her, but her arms had grown stiff from carrying her earlier.
After Queenie put Caprice on the bed, Madam Stockton carefully sat on the bed next to Caprice and hugged her adoringly. Queenie also sat on the bed and watched them.
She observed her mother’s soft and content expression, then she asked with a faint smile, “Mom, you must feel relieved now.” Madam Stockton smiled faintly. “Yes, I’m glad you could make up with your brother.”
She was also glad that Sherry did not hold grudges against her.
She understood that Sherry still felt rather awkward with her, but the gesture of providing such fine accommodation for them was a sign of her goodwill.
She reflected that she was too close—minded and outright terrible in the past.
Queenie remarked, “I wasn’t expecting her to have such a good relationship with Madam Sager. If | was an outsider, I'd have thought that they were mother and daughter.”
Madam Stockton agreed with a faint nod. “Yes.”
Compared to Sherry’s biological parents, Lisa seemed more like her family.
