Ch. 1776..1780

Chapter 1776

“Daddy, what happened to you?” Caprice asked frightfully while slowly tearing up. It hurt Sherry to see her like this.

John raised his hand and gently stroked Caprice’s head, “Daddy will be fine.” Caprice whimpered, “Daddy, your voice is hoarse.”

“It's what happens when you get sick, Daddy will be fine after a few days of rest.” “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Caprice pursed her lips and tried to crawl onto the bed. She had trouble climbing up due to her height. All she could manage was to awkwardly prop one of her feet onto the bed, but she did not have the strength to pull her weight onto the bed.

She groaned and tried to muster her strength to fling herself onto the bed. Sherry chuckled and stepped forward to help her onto the bed.

After Caprice managed to get onto the bed, she crawled over to John and hugged him tightly. She began to blow large puffs of air on his face. She must have learned this from one of those cartoons she liked to watch.

“If | keep doing this, you will feel better.”

She continued the bizarre technique for a while until her lips were beginning to become parched. John chuckled and patted her head gently, “Thank you, Caprice. Daddy is feeling much better.” Caprice was very pleased to hear this, “You’re welcome, Daddy.”

She seemed very proud of her effort.

The injury John had sustained was centered in the area near his heart. With Caprice lying directly on top of his chest, Sherry was worried that it was going to aggravate his condition. With that in mind, she carried Caprice off the bed.

She grew curious and asked, “Caprice, Mommy and Daddy haven't been at home these two days. Have you been a good girl at home?”

Caprice rested quietly in her arms without protest. She smiled brightly and expressed proudly, “I've been a good girl!” She missed her parents very much, but she was very strong and did not cry once.

Sherry kissed Caprice on the cheeks.

Caprice snickered happily and gave Sherry a big smooch on the cheeks as well. Sherry carried her over to the couch.

It was nearing dinner time.

Soon, Jason showed up with food.

Since John could not get out of bed yet, Sherry helped bring the food to him and set it on a table next to the bed. Then, she went back to eat with Caprice at a table nearby.

After the meal, Caprice hopped out of the chair and went to be with her father.

Sherry found herself blurting out, “Caprice, Daddy is still injured. Make sure you don’t lie on top of him.”

Caprice nodded.

Resting on the hospital bed, John cast a look in Sherry’s direction, something gleamed in his eyes.

Sherry recognized the look in his eyes and asked suspiciously, “What's with that look? Was it something | said?” John smiled gently, “No, nothing.” After a pause, he added, “I’m just feeling happy.”

“What are you so happy about?”

“That you care about me.” Sherry seemed at a loss of what to say and blurted out, “I just don’t want Caprice to lose her father at such a young age.”

As she was saying this, Caprice was desperately trying to pull her weight onto the bed. The moment she heard what her mother said, she froze and immediately lost her balance, then tumbled to the floor with a loud thump.

She turned up to look at Sherry, her eyes filled with tears.

Sherry was startled by this. When she met Caprice’s eyes, she was stricken with guilt. He hurried to Caprice and helped her up from the ground.

Caprice grumbled.

Sherry became very worried and asked, “Are you hurt?”

“I'm okay.” She seemed like she was upset about something else.

Sherry realized that it must have been the passing remark she made about John just now. She quickly tried to remedy the situation, “Caprice, Mommy was just joking around with Daddy.”

Caprice shot a look at her and said crossly, “It’s not funny. Don’t do that again Mommy.” She did not ever want to lose her father or her mother. She wanted both Mommy and Daddy to be around forever!

Sherry was slightly caught off guard by the hard tone of her voice. Caprice was always soft-spoken and easygoing, so this was the first she had ever seen Caprice speak in a sharp, cutting tone.

The entire time, Caprice was staring at her intently with her large, marbly eyes.

Chapter 1777

Sherry gave her word. “Alright, Mommy promises to never say something like that ever again.” Caprice smiled and seemed content at last.

Sherry kissed her on the cheek.

Caprice returned the same favor, and they made up.

Sherry smiled and carried her onto the bed.

John was looking at Sherry with a smile forming in the corner of his eyes. He seemed to find the situation. of a mother getting lectured by her daughter very humorous.

Sherry shot a look at him. He traced a smile and told her tenderly, “I'll Keep Caprice company for a bit. Why don’t you get some rest?”

There was a large recliner next to the couch with blankets and pillows laid on top of it. It was ideal for her to catch up on some rest.

Sherry was certainly getting tired. She doubted she needed to worry about Caprice since she was with her father.

She nodded and went to the reclining chair without protest. She swiftly took off her coat and shoes, then she reclined into the chair and threw the blanket on top of her. After she was in a comfortable position, she closed her eyes.

It was very quiet in the room.

Just as she was about to fall asleep, she faintly heard John’s voice. He was speaking to Caprice, “Caprice, Mommy stayed up all night last night to watch over Daddy, so she’s very tired. She was only joking when she said that just now. Please don’t be angry.

Caprice was seated cross-legged next to him and was toying with a plushie. She seemed surprised to hear this and said ina reflective tone, “I didn’t know, | wasn’t trying to be mean to Mommy.”

John gently pinched her chubby cheeks and spoke gently, “It’s alright. I’m not angry at you. | just wanted you to know that deep down, Mommy cares about me,”

Caprice was suddenly filled with guilt, “But | got angry at Mommy just now.” “Mommy won't hold it against you.”

“Okay.”

That was the end of their conversation.

Sherry remained laying on the recliner the entire time. It may look like she was sleeping calmly, but there was a wave of restless turmoil inside her.

In the end, her accumulated exhaustion took over. Soon, she fell into a deep sleep.

It was the next morning by the time she opened her eyes again. The curtains were slightly parted, allowing a trace of sunlight to spill into the room.

John sat up against the headboard of the bed and was reading a book.

Caprice was snuggled next to Sherry and sleeping soundly. She must have climbed into the recliner at some point in the night. Sherry gave her a big smooch on the lips. She was completely irresistible cause of how cute she looked in her sleep. “Morning.” John noticed that she woke up and greeted her with a warm smile.

Sherry made a look and returned the greeting, “Morning.”

Then, she got up and went to the bathroom. She brushed her teeth and washed her face, then she stepped back into the ward.

The doctor happened to come by for a routine inspection. After attending to John and leaving some brief instructions, the doctor left with the nurses.

Caprice woke up around this point. Her first instinct upon waking up was to look for her mother, she muttered drowsily, “Mommy?”

“I'm right here.” Sherry hurried to her side. Caprice crawled into her arms and burrowed her face into the crook of her neck. Sherry smiled and carried her to the bathroom.

After helping her wash up, they went back into the ward. Sherry turned to John and mocked a cough before asking, “Do you want to go to the bathroom?”

John looked at her and answered, “Yes.” Sherry set Caprice on the couch, then she went to the bed to help John out of bed.

The moment her hands briefly made contact with his, he held on to her wrist as if his life depended on it. Sherry was caught off guard by this and lost her balance, she collapsed into the bed. Her lips briefly brushed against John’s as she landed against his chest.

She frantically tried to pull herself out of bed. That was when she felt a palm pressing against the back of her head, preventing her from rising.

There was only a ruler’s length separating the two of them as they made eye contact.

Chapter 1778

John smirked and teased her, “Clumsy, aren’t you?” Sherry did not utter a word.

Scumbag!

“Get your hands off me!” she snapped suddenly.

John continued pressing the back of her head, completely unfazed by her outburst. “Were you hurt?” Sherry’s felt her cheeks growing red hot. “No!”

John smiled, “Alright then, good.”

Sherry clenched her jaw and repeated sharply, “Let go!” Or else, she was going to beat him up!

“Okay,” John said as he pressed her toward him.

Sherry felt her weight shifting forward, and in an instant, it seemed like she was zooming in on John’s eyes. She felt the softness of his lips pressing against hers. The warmth and tender texture of his lips sent a wave of electric shock through her.

It took her a moment before she fully registered what was happening. Just as she was about to begin swinging her fists at John, he let go of her so that she could pull herself away.

She immediately snapped backward like a spring. Her heart was pounding incessantly, and her cheeks were flushed red. She had to take a moment to catch her breath before she hissed, “Go to the bathroom yourself!”

“Sure.” John spoke calmly, “Actually, | went before you woke up.”

Sherry was flabbergasted.

Then, why did he ask for her help back there?

Was it intentional just so he could mess with her?

John looked at her with a wide grin on his face, the smug type that implied he was fully aware of what he was doing. Sherry was furious and shouted, “You scumbag! Do you want me to break your legs?!”

John answered briskly, “Go ahead.”

Sherry was speechless.

Meanwhile, Caprice who was sitting on the couch the entire time looked on with amusement. Her head

was tilted to the side as she beheld their interaction with much confusion.

They were kissing only moments ago, so why were they fighting now?

Adults were so strange.

Sherry was fuming. She took Caprice and stormed out. She wanted to go out for a walk and get some breakfast on the way. They strolled around the area before they found a nice breakfast place. They ate there and stayed for a

while before they ordered a portion to go, then they began heading back to the hospital.

John’s ward was on the eighth floor.

Sherry took Caprice in her arms and stepped into the elevator. Soon, the elevator took them to the eighth.

floor.

As they stepped into the corridor, they noticed Jason, Nelson, and several bodyguards crowded by the ward entrance. There was another familiar figure among them. It was Peter. He approached Sherry when he noticed her.

He smiled warmly at her, “Good morning, ma’am.”

Sherry smiled at him and asked, “Why aren’t you going in?”

He must have rushed here when he found out about what happened to John.

Peter was about to say something when the door leading into the ward was flung open.

A figure dressed in bright yellow bolted through the door.

Sherry barely had time to identify who this person was when she felt a pair of arms thrown around her. If not for the wall behind her blanketing the impact, she would have been thrown to the floor.

“Oof...” She heard someone grunt.

It was neither her nor the person hugging her who made the sound. Instead, it was Caprice who was squeezed in between the two of them. She was about to turn into a pancake.

Queenie immediately let go of Sherry, her voice flaring with concern as she cried out, “Caprice, did | hurt you? I’m so sorry!” 2 Caprice caught her breath and assured her, “I'm okay.”

She only nearly had the air squeezed out of her.

Chapter 1779

Queenie smiled warmly, then she turned to Sherry.

Sherry recognized Queenie at last and was astounded. “When did you get here?” Queenie beamed with joy. “Just this morning. | came here with my mother and Peter.”

“Is Madam Stockton here too?”

“Yeah, my mom is inside.”

As soon as she said that, Madam Stockton stepped out of the room and revealed herself.

She was dressed rather plainly, her hair tied back in a common ponytail. She looked thinner and frailer than when Sherry last saw her.

Her lips quivered. It looked like she wanted to say something to Sherry but did not know how to start or where to start. Sherry seemed visibly affected to see Madam Stockton here.

When John was still in the intensive care unit, Peter had trouble reaching him at all, so he ended up contacting Jason. It was Sherry who then took the phone and told him about John taking a knife for her to protect her.

Madam Stockton must have found out about everything that happened from Peter. Sherry was worried that Madam Stockton still harbored resentment towards her. Even if she knew that what happened in the past was all an evil ploy of Julie’s, she already had a poor impression of Sherry due to past events.

With this in mind, Sherry put Caprice down and handed the takeout container to her before urging her to go in, “Caprice, why don’t you go inside with Aunt Queenie and give the food to Daddy?”

Caprice nodded obediently.

Sherry darted a glance at Queenie who nodded and took the hint. She took Caprice by her hand and lead her into the ward.

Sherry looked at Madam Stockton and gestured politely. “Madam Stockton, let’s have a chat over here.” Madam Stockton remained silent the entire time.

AS Sherry stepped to the corner, Madam Stockton followed after her.

Sherry approached some chairs and gestured. “Please, have a seat.”

Madam Stockton tucked her lips and told her with a tint of reservation in her voice, “Alright, sit with me, please.” With that, she sat down. She was a bundle of nerves.

Sherry was slightly startled by the quiver in her voice, but she proceeded to sit. Madam Stockton made to speak. There was a blank look on her face, and she still had trouble forming her thoughts. Sherry considered for a moment and asked stiffly, “Are you feeling better?”

“Much better.” Madam Stockton smiled politely. At last, she began to speak, “It’s all thanks to you saving me from the burning car. If not for you, | wouldn’t even be alive and talking to you this moment.”

Sherry’s eyes became filled with emotions. She said with a faint smile, “No need, anyone would have saved you.”

“There’s more to it than that. | was very nasty toward you back then and was constantly trying to tear John away from you.” Madam Stockton expressed with a tired sigh, “But you looked past all that and chose to save me.”

Sherry smiled and spoke sincerely, “You are John’s mother. | would do everything | can to save you.”

“Thank you. | just thought... What | did in the past was wrong. If it wasn’t for me, things would have gone much better between you and John, and all those terrible things would not have happened.” After a pause, she continued, “It was right for John to take that knife for you, especially considering how terribly he treated you back then. You could even say he deserved it. Julie... that wretched woman almost killed you. I’m just glad that you managed to make up with John after everything that happened.”

She grew emotional as she spoke and quickly reached for a handkerchief to wipe her tears.

Sherry was starkly surprised. She was not expecting such a heartfelt confession.

Before the start of their conversation, she assumed that Madam Stockton would tell her off again and warn her to keep her distance from John.

It seemed like after Julie’s true nature was exposed, Madam Stockton came to realize how unjust she had been all these years. Sherry pursed her lips and tried to say something, but found herself at a loss for what to say.

It was around this point when Madam Stockton suddenly took out an intricate little red box from her purse. She opened the box.

It contained an exquisite emerald bracelet with excellent craftsmanship. It looked like it had been well preserved for many decades.

“Sherry, | want you to take this,” she said as she handed the bracelet over.

Sherry was very appreciative but kindly refused, “Madam Stockton, | know that you mean well but | simply can’t take it. It’s too expensive.”

Madam Stockton explained with a smile, “This is a family heirloom passed down through generations. John’s grandmother gave it to me a long time ago, and | think it’s time for me to pass it on to you.”

It was an heirloom passed down to the daughter-in-law. Sherry was appalled by this. Still, she stood her ground. “I think you should keep it for now.” It was all too sudden.

Madam Stockton seemed crushed to hear this. “You... you still can’t forgive John, can you? Is it impossible for you to make up with him?”

Chapter 1780

Sherry quickly cleared things up. “No, | promised to forgive him and to make up with him in time.” “In that case, you should take this.” Madam Stockton tried to shove the box into her hands. Sherry insisted on not taking it. “It’s just too sudden. We can talk about this later.”

Madam Stockton frowned sourly. She expressed with a sigh, “I understand that he hurt you gravely. | should not have forced you two to break up a decade ago. It must have left a bad taste in your mouth. If | were you, | would have a hard time forgiving him as well.”

Her voice became choked up as she spoke. Sherry was silent. She winced. This was a tough situation for her.

Although some emotions were welling inside her that she still could not look past, she was aware that she had promised John to repair their relationship. She could not go back on her word.

She knew that it would not please Madam Stockton if she continued to refuse the family heirloom.

“It was all my fault. I've made things difficult for you two during all those years and put you through so much...” Madam Stockton went on and on.

Sherry made up her mind. “It’s alright. I'll take it. Madam Stockton’s eyes immediately lit up. Sherry took the box and promptly tucked it into her purse.

Madam Stockton wore a celebratory smile. She turned to Sherry and thanked her sincerely, “Thank you, Sherry.” She was thanking her for being willing to make up with John.

These days, Madam Stockton had been nothing but miserable. She would spend every waking hour of the day praying that the pair would reconcile their differences. Otherwise, she would have to live with the guilt of tearing them apart for the rest of her life.

Sherry frowned.

She could see that the madam had learned her lesson and was committed to being a better person. Despite that, it was difficult for her to forget the horrible pains the madam had once inflicted upon her.

She understood that there was no point in holding the past against her, especially considering how she had never done that in the past as well.

“Have you had breakfast?” she asked.

Madam Stockton smiled briskly. “I have. After | got off the plane with Queenie, we ate in the car while we were on the way here.” Then, she asked Sherry the same question, “Have you eaten?”

“Caprice and | ate just now.” With that, she got up. “Come on, let’s go in.”

“Sure.”

Madam Stockton had some difficulty getting up. It seemed like the accident had impacted her physical health. As Sherry kindly helped her up, Madam Stockton smiled sincerely at her.

Sherry returned the same smile.

With that, they entered the ward.

Queenie stood near the entrance and traced a smile when she saw the pair enter.

John was seated on the hospital bed and eating the breakfast Sherry bought for him.

Caprice was next to him, she was playing with a plushie.

When John noticed Sherry and Madam Stockton entering, he looked up and smiled warmly at Sherry.

Sherry returned a faint smile and turned to Caprice. “Caprice, Grandma is here. Why don’t you come and play with Grandma for a while?”

Caprice nodded obediently and promptly hopped out of bed. She quickly approached Sherry and Madam Stockton.

Sherry shot her a look.

Caprice immediately took the hint, she walked up to Madam Stockton and greeted her in a sing-song voice, “Hello, Grandma...” Madam Stockton quickly bent over and took Caprice into her arms. “Caprice, oh my baby, Grandma misses you so much.”

Caprice was used to having Sherry shower her with affection in the same manner. Once she settled into Madam Stockton’s arms, she planted a big smooch on the madam’s cheeks out of habit.

Madam Stockton shrieked with joy. She would have spun around in circles with Caprice in her arms if not for her poor and aging knees.

Sherry smiled and lead the two of them to a nearby couch so they could have a seat.

Madam Stockton held on to Caprice the entire time as if she was afraid that Caprice would vaporize into dust if she was not careful.

John took his time with his breakfast.

It was a rather heartwarming scene.
