Chapter 1771
Sherry tried to help him up, but he lost all his strength to the stab. His weight and physique overpowered her, dragging her down to the ground despite mustering all her strength to hold him up.
The stench of blood entered her nose. She tapped on his shoulder to nudge him, but as soon as she lifted her hand, her palm was blood-stained. His back was drenched in his own blood.
Her hand shook.
Sherry looked at John. His face was bleached white and his half-closed eyes were glued to her Sherry’s lips trembled out of fear “John? John? JOHN!? Hang in there!”
She pulled her phone out to call the ambulance.
Ada, who was kicked to the ground by Carl, was apprehended by the security guards.
Carl swiftly made a call and ran over to Sherry. He looked at Sherry and her blood-stained hand. “Sis, don’t worry, I’ve called an ambulance. Help is arriving.”
Sherry then looked at John. “Did you hear that? Help is coming! Hold on! Hang in there!” John’s lips moved, seemingly spelling the word ‘alright”
Sherry pursed her lips. Her tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably. She resented the man. She resented him for imprisoning her, bullying her, starving her, and almost killing her!
However, when she saw him being stabbed because of her and dying in his own puddle of blood, her heart tightened uncontrollably. The heart-wrenching scene was too much for her to handle. Her lips. pursed, her teeth gritted and she held his hand tightly until the ambulance’s siren entered her ears.
The paramedics came down swiftly to attend to John’s injuries. Sherry regained her composure and stepped aside.
One of the paramedics said, “There’s a stab to the chest, possibly harming the heart. We need to bring him to the hospital immediately.”
The paramedics then carried John into the ambulance.
Sherry followed the paramedics to the ambulance, and Carl followed her.
One of the security guards thought Carl was leaving, so he immediately asked, “Sir, what should we do about Ms. Wright?” Disgusted, Carl bellowed, “Turn her into the police immediately.”
Ada’s face turned pale. Her body was shaking because she did not expect to stab John.
Carl's words pulled her back from her shock. She shouted at Carl, “Carl, | did this for you! Sherry is a shameless bitch! She’s trying to deceive you and her ex-husband! She’s a cheap-”
Slap!
Before she could finish, she was slapped in the face
It was Sherry who had come back from the ambulance Ada was stunned by the slap it took her a few seconds to recover and it dawned on her that Sherry had slapped her
Things went silent Not only the bystanders and the other employees were stunned, even Carl and the paramedics were speechless
Sherry kicked Ada in the belly and shouted, “Ada Wright, if anything happens to John, I'll make sure you suffer for it!”
If it was not for the ambulance leaving, Sherry would have beaten Ada to death Sherry then went back to the ambulance. “Who are you to the patient?” the paramedic asked
Sherry said, “I'm his wife ”
The paramedic allowed her to follow them. The door closed and the ambulance sprinted off to the hospital he parking lot was left with a puddle of blood and a bunch of petrified bystanders.
Cart watched as the ambulance left his sight. His brows furrowed in silence for a while

Chapter 1772 the corridor outside the emergency room, Sherry squatted down with her blood-stained hands over her fad It had been two hours, yet the door remained closed and the sign remained lit
Sherry saw several medical staff running in and out of the emergency room, but there were no signs of e surgery being over She had been squatting down for so long that she could not feel her legs anymore.. fer body felt cold and stiff
For some reason, her mind kept replaying some old memories while she waited for the surgery to be over
When they were together ten years ago, he had been the Stocktons eldest son, a handsome young man with a bright future. He was the ideal husband of many socialites and young ladies in Glenchester, but he had fallen for her out of all the other women
At the start of their relationship, her then fiance, Mason, was taken away by Shannon. hence she cut all ties with her family, the Fowlers She relied on her own hands to make a living
He knew she was a woman with dignity so he never explicitly gave her money but helped her find part- time jobs that paid well. He would also give her gifts that looked normal but were actually expensive, and he would pick her up from school when she finished working.

Tears rolled down her cheeks uncontrollably. Sherry buried her face behind her hands. If he could make it out of the emergency room, she would forgive him for whatever he did.
She choked on her emotions for a little longer before she gradually recovered She lifted her head up to look at the emergency room but saw Lisa and Carl in front of her She was unaware of their arrival and they were looking at her, worried.
Sherry was caught off guard. Lisa went over and squatted down. She looked at her gently and said, “Sherry, I’m sure the doctor will save him. He’ll make it.” Sherry snorted and hummed a reply.
Lisa held her hand and hugged her “Come on, don’t sit on the floor it’s cold. Let’s go sit on the bench.
Sherry could not say a word due to her overflowing emotions She simply followed Lisa to the bench by the side Carl remained petrified on the spot. Jason was also there, standing in silence.
Another hour later, the door finally opened.
Sherry bolted up.
The doctor came over and said, “The patient has made it through the critical state, but he is still unconscious. We'll have to observe for another day.”
Sherry finally sighed a breath of relief. “Thank you, Doctor”
“You're welcome. You can settle the hospitalization procedures later,” the doctor said before he left. Lisa held Sherry close and said to Carl, “Carl, go settle the procedures. I'll stay here with Sherry” Carl nodded. He glanced at Sherry before he left for the reception.
John was then transferred to the ICU.
Chapter 1773
John ned to stay for another day for observation purposes. If he could make it through, he could be discharged
Sherry stayed by his side for the entire night.
Lisa and Carl stayed back to accompany Sherry, but she told them to go back to take a rest. They refused though
It was until Lisa received a call about an urgent matter back at the Sagers house, only then she left while Carl stayed back. It was a quiet night in the corridor outside the ICU
Sarl stood beside Sherry and looked at her silently.
Awhile after Lisa left, Sherry looked at him. She said in a disheartened voice, T’m fine. You should go back and take a rest
Carl's eyes flickered Tm responsible for what happened to Master Stockton as well. | failed to contain Ada, that was how she was able to hurt him. | should be the one who stays.”
His words made sense, which silenced Sherry Carl continued, “Sis, why don’t you go back and take a rest?” “lm not tired”
Caprice was already sleeping and was safe under Aunt Wanda’s care. There were bodyguards at home as well, so nothing would happen to the girl. She wanted to stay by John’s side until he woke up.
Carl pursed his lips silently as he stared at her worried face.
The silence lasted through the night.
The next morning, while Carl was away buying breakfast, a doctor and a nurse entered the ICU to check on John Sherry remained outside.
Awhile later, the door opened and the doctor came out with a heavy expression.
Sherry immediately asked, “Doctor, how is he?”
The doctor said heavily, “He should be waking up by now, but there are no signs of it.”
Sherry’s heart skipped a beat.
The doctor looked at her “Are you the patient’s wife?”
“Yes, | am.”
“You can go in to accompany him. He'll need all the encouragement he can get. Maybe a miracle will happen.” “Okay. Thank you, Doctor.”
The doctor then left with the nurse.
Sherry changed into a visiting gown and went in.
The ICU was quiet, and only the whirring of machines could be heard The man on the bed looked pale and weak Hise es remained closed despite her entry to the room
Sherry sat down beside him and called his name “John.”
Silence was the answer she got. He could not listen to a word she said as if he was dead
Sherry’s heart sank further She choked on her emotions for a bit before she said, “Caprice is waiting for us at home. Wake up. Open your eyes if you want to see her again.”
John remained unconscious, and his face remained pale. Sherry snorted. “You jerk! | won't feel guilty because you took the stab for me. You almost got me killed a few times in the past!” John remained still.
Sherry pursed her lips. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She reached out and held his hand tightly. She whimpered as she said, “I'll forgive you! If you wake up, I'll forgive you! I'll forget what you did to me in the past’ I'll stay with you and Caprice and we can live together as a family. Please?”
“Okay”
Chapter 1774
“Huh?”
Sherry thought she heard John replying She wanted to pull her hands back to wipe her tears but one of her hands was caught. She wiped her tears with one hand swiftly and then saw John looking at her gently.
He looked weak and pale, but he was awake!
Sherry’s eyes gleamed as she was surprised.
As though he was afraid that she would not keep the promise, he held her hand tightly. He smiled and said, “I heard what you said just now. | know you will keep your promise, am | right?”
Sherry’s eyes flickered several times.
Seeing his eyes open and him talking to her made Sherry no longer feel less pain.
“| said it because | wanted you to wake up,” she said.
John’s expression changed. His brows furrowed and he looked like he was in pain. He lost his grip over her hand. Surprised, Sherry immediately asked, “What’s wrong? Is your chest hurting?”
“My heart. It hurts...” he said feebly before his eyes closed once more.
Sherry got anxious.
Was it because of what she said?
She held his hand tightly and said nervously, “I was just joking! I'll Keep my promise! If you treat me well, I'll treat you well!” John’s eyes remained closed.
Sherry got even more anxious. She was afraid that he would never wake up again. She wanted to call the doctor but before she could, she felt the grip on her hand again.
She turned around and saw him smiling like a cunning fox.
“Okay I'll treat you well,” he said softly.
Sherry suddenly had the urge to punch him. She glared at him. “Let me go!”
He pursed his lips and feigned an innocent look. “You said you want to be with me.” Sherry pursed her lips. “I’m going to inform the doctor to check on you.”
Since he had already woken up, the doctor should check on him again
John said with a smile, “It’s okay They checked on me already Before you came in.” Cherry nodded but it dawned on her that something was wrong. She looked at him and asked. “How did you know the doctor checked on you before | came in?”
John pursed his lips
Sherry frowned You already woke up before | came in
Sherry was agitated and baffled at the same time. If you are already awake, why did the doctor tell me to come in and accompany you?”
“| told the doctor to let you come in,” he said with a smile.
Sherry was speechless. She wanted to pull her hand away, but he tightened his grip. She mustered all her strength but failed nonetheless.
The little pull moved him closer to the edge of the bed. He frowned as if something hit him, but he remained smiling at her Sherry exasperatedly sighed and sat back down.
John smiled at her
“Just you wait,” she glared at him. Once discharged, she ought to teach him a lesson!
Okay, I’m waiting,” John said with a smile.
Meanwhile, outside the ICU....
Chapter 1775
Carl came back with breakfast and was standing outside the glass window. He looked disheartened when he saw the scene inside the ICU.
He put the breakfast on the bench that Sherry sat on earlier and left quietly. Sherry stayed by John’s side for a while before her stomach started to growl. John released her hand and told her to get something to eat.
Sherry walked out of the ICU.
The corridor was quiet.
Sherry took off her visiting gown when she came out. She went on her phone to order some food, but then she noticed the breakfast on the bench.
Surprised, she looked at Jason who was on guard further away. “Jason, who bought this?” “Young Master Carl.”
“Where is he?”
“He left.”
Sherry was silent for a moment. She then asked, “Have you eaten?”
“| have, Madam.”
The nurse in charge of checking up on John just wanted to ask her colleague to bring her breakfast and Sherry was aware of it. She gave the nurse the extra breakfast meal and took the other one herself.
The ICU forbade any visiting other than medical staff. The reason why Sherry was able to go in earlier was that John had requested her presence from the doctor.
Sherry stayed outside the ICU for the rest of the day.
Lisa visited once in the afternoon. Learning that John had woken up, she accompanied Sherry to lunch
before leaving again.
Awhile later, Aunt Wanda called her.
Caprice had been missing her parents for a whole day and wanted to see them.
Sherry talked to Caprice through the phone and lullabied her to sleep before hanging up. She stayed at the hospital until sunset.
The doctor went into the ICU and gave John another check-up. John was then transferred to a normal ward, and Sherry followed him there.
John was transferred to the most expensive ward in the hospital, and it was Sherry who paid for it herself. The room felt comfortable, but the closed window looked a little stuffy.
After John settled down, Sherry went to open the window and allowed the comfortable breeze to enter. John leaned against the bed and watched her move around the room.
Sherry felt uncomfortable being watched. After she opened the window, she turned to him and said, “Can you stop staring at me?”
John smiled. “You have dark circles. Didn't sleep last night?” Sherry’s eyes flickered nervously. “I did, but the bed is not comfortable. | didn’t get a good sleep.”
John pursed his lips. “Then, you should get some rest.”
“It's okay. Aunt Wanda is bringing Caprice over. I’ll rest when | put her to sleep.”
The girl called her again after she woke up from her nap. She asked why they had not come home last night and sounded worried.
Now that John had been transferred to a normal ward, Aunt Wanda could bring the girl over to visit. John said, “Okay.”
Sherry sat on the couch and picked up a book to read. She was never a reader. The reason why she picked the book up was to hide her face behind it and stop him from staring at her.
He might not be embarrassed, but she was.
John smiled when he saw her bury her face behind a book. He picked up his phone and checked on the messages that he left out for the past two days.
Things quieted down in the room until the door was opened and Caprice waddled her way in. Sherry put the book down. Caprice waddled to the bed and looked at John with teary eyes.
Sherry told Caprice about John’s condition, but she did not tell the girl that he had been stabbed. She simply said John fell down and hurt himself.
When the girl saw her father in the patient’s gown and his pale look, she looked worried and sad.
