Ch. 1831..1835

Chapter 1831

Sylvia led Caprice by the hand. “Caprice, let’s go. The boys will come later.”

Caprice followed her to the dining table and asked out of curiosity, “Aunt Sylvia, aren't Flint and Isabel coming home today?” Sylvia replied, “Isabel has a shoot today and Flint is very busy, so they’re not coming back.”

This meant that it was only going to be the two of them along with Odell and Liam.

Did Liam know about this?

Did his girlfriend Heather know?

“Caprice, what's wrong? Why the sad face? Did something bad happen?” Sylvia noticed her sullen expression almost immediately.

Caprice quickly snapped back to her senses and played it down. “No, nothing.”

“Are you sure? You looked like there was something on your mind back there.” Sylvia took her hand and suddenly shifted to a serious tone, “Your mother isn’t around, so I’m your family now. Come on and tell me. What happened?”

For a brief second, Caprice almost decided to tell Sylvia to stop trying to set her up with Liam. Liam already had a girlfriend, and she did not want to ruin their relationship. Then, she immediately realized that going by Uncle Odell’s way of doing things, he would tell Liam to break up with Heather if he found out about their relationship.

It seemed like Liam hadn’t told them about Heather. This must be part of the reason he was having reservations about telling them. She should not meddle with his private affairs.

She assured Sylvia, “Aunt Sylvia, I’m fine. It’s just something that happened to one of my roommates recently. | think | might have to go back to see her for a bit after lunch.”

Sylvia was relieved to hear this, then she asked out of concern, “What happened to your roommate? Do you need me to help?” “No, it'll be fine.”

“Alright, but if you face any problems at all, you have to tell me, understand?”

“Yeah, | understand.”

After a while, Liam and Odell came down to join them.

The father and son were about the same height, and both of them stood a head taller than most people. The difference was that while Odell held himself with a reflective air, wise with age, Liam had a certain daring that only the young could afford.

Caprice greeted Odell with a warm smile, “Hi Uncle Odell”

Odell smiled at her “Hey, let’s eat”

With that, he approached Sylvia and sat on one end of the table

The table was rectangular, and since the couple was seated on one side, that meant Caprice and Liam had to sit across them. Caprice grew nervous when she realized she had to sit next to Liam but quickly composed

herself. There was nothing to be nervous about. He already had a girlfriend and only thought of her as his sister.

They ate in silence.

“Caprice, it’s going to be the summer break soon. Do you have any plans for the summer?” Odell suddenly broke the silence.

Caprice answered, “I have no plans for now, but | might go home and stay there for the summer.” Both her grandma and father had been hinting at her to go home, and she figured there was no reason she should not do so.

Odell swiped a look at Liam before turning back to Caprice. “You're almost 20. Have your parents thought about letting you intern at their place?”

John and Sherry only had one daughter and had a habit of pampering and sheltering her. Still, it was only a matter of time before she had to take on the mantle of the family business.

Caprice pulled a face and said in a low voice, “They did mention that, but | don’t want to intern yet.”

She interned during the last summer break and it did not go well at all. She barely understood anything, and all the materials she was given to read seemed like they were written in another language. She planned to try again after her graduation. Maybe she would be more ready by then.

Liam must have thought poorly of her when he found out how dense she was.

All three of Liam, Isabel, and Flint were prodigies and crushed it academically. She wondered why she had so much trouble with school when her parents were known for being very intelligent as well.

Before allowing time for Caprice to further second-guess herself, Odell encouraged her with a smile, “You’re still young. You don’t have to go if you feel like you have more to learn.”

After a pause, he continued, “I heard Liam needs an assistant. You could consider working with him this summer. It’s a chance to gain some experience without having to stress about working with your parents.”

Caprice grew stiff as she glanced at Liam. She wondered what his reaction would be.

Chapter 1832

Chapter 1832 To her disappointment, there was scarcely any visible reaction on his face.

Sylvia seemed a fan of the idea. “That’s right, Liam has another assistant who is very experienced. I’m sure you can learn a lot from both her and Liam as well.”

Sylvia turned to Liam. “Liam, what do you think?”

Liam muttered, “It works.”

Caprice was shocked. He agreed almost without any hesitation!

“Caprice, do you want to?” Sylvia asked again.

As Liam turned to her as well this time, a pair of un-emotive dark eyes stared at her silently.

Caprice felt dizzy. Of course, she would love to! She could spend time with Liam.

However, Heather would not feel the same.

“Caprice? What’s wrong? Is there anything you're concerned about?” Upon sensing her hesitation, Sylvia grew worried. “Caprice, just tell us what's on your mind. Don’t worry about it,” Odell spoke up.

Liam stared at her the entire time. There was look of confusion in his eyes that slipped past Caprice.

Caprice hesitated for several additional seconds, then she turned to Sylvia and Odell. “Aunt Sylvia, Uncle Odell, | don’t know how to get anything done. Liam needs a very capable assistant by his side. All I’m going to do is create more work for him since he'll have to clean up my mess.”

“Oh, | thought it was something serious.” Sylvia chuckled and said, “Caprice, didn’t | mention that Liam has another senior assistant with him? You'll be fine, all you need to do is just show up and learn. You won't be a hindrance.”

“But...” “No more buts. Do you want to go or not?” Sylvia demanded an answer. Caprice glanced at Liam.

Liam was also looking at her, the indifferent look in his eyes as apparent as day. There was no telling what was on his mind at all, whether he preferred Caprice to work for him or not.

Caprice pursed her lips. Forget it, he already had a girlfriend. Even though she had feelings for Liam, she had to be respectful.

She turned to Sylvia and Odell and steeled herself. “Aunt Sylvia, Uncle Odell, thank you for the offer, but | don’t think I’ll do it. My parents and grandma have been wanting me to go home to visit them, and my father spoke about having me over at his workplace to pick up some experience. He will be upset if | suddenly intern somewhere else.”

It may not be the true reason for her refusal, but these were true facts. Her father did want her to take over the family business at one point.

Sylvia and Odell glanced at each other, and they decided to stop pushing Caprice simply because there were no grounds for them to convince her otherwise. Caprice was John’s only child and his most precious daughter, and he had always been very protective of her. In truth, Odell had proposed for Liam to wed Caprice several times, but John refused every time.

John could not accept the idea of Caprice leaving him to be with Liam. “Okay, but make sure you find time to visit us during the summer break, alright?” Sylvia dropped the matter. Caprice smiled and nodded, always the good niece.

They continued eating.

Meanwhile, Liam wore a deep furrow on his face, and a gloomy look appeared in his eyes. After the meal, Caprice said goodbye to Odell and Sylvia, then she left the house.

Liam had already excused himself midway through the meal. He must have something urgent come up.

After walking out of the house, Caprice was about to head toward the car the driver usually drove to pick her up, and that was when she noticed Liam’s car.

It was parked right in front of the gate.

Caprice was surprised.

Wasn't he gone?

That was when the driver stepped out of the car and opened the door for her, gesturing her to enter.

Caprice obediently got into the car.

Chapter 1833

Chapter 1833 Liam sat like a statue in the backseat there was a sharp glare in his eyes that made it seem like he was in a bad mood. Caprice was cautious of sitting too close to him.

At some point during the ride, when she noticed that Liam’s expression was still as gloomy as when she entered, she muttered weakly, “Liam, I’m sorry.”

Liam looked at her with a puzzled expression. “What are you apologizing for?”

She answered frightfully, “I didn’t know that you were waiting for me. | thought you already left for work. | should have left with you, so you wouldn’t have to spend time waiting for me.”

She figured that the reason he was upset was that he had been stewing in the car, waiting for her. Liam grimaced, and several deep creases formed on his forehead. He entered into a somber silence.

Caprice took this silence to mean that her concerns were true. She had made Liam upset because she had been dilly-dallying. She sat stiffly and spent the remainder of the ride in silence.

Soon, the car stopped in front of Sparkrow University dormitory. “See you, Liam,” she blurted out before scuttling out of the car like a thief. Liam silently watched her as she retreated into the safety of her dorm, and he frowned.

What happened to the Caprice in the past? She used to be so excited to see him and affectionate with him! Why would she refuse the offer to intern for him? Why was she so eager to get away from him?

Caprice went around the corner, up the stairway, and vanished out of sight. Liam vented his frustration at the driver. “Drive!”

The driver stomped on the gas pedal, afraid of his wrath.

The finals were coming up.

The summer break would commence shortly after the finals.

Lana’s family was based in Westchester, Freya’s hailed from a remote town a long way away. while both Caprice and Piper came both from Glanchester.

Since the group of friends was going to be separated for two months, they decided to spend the day at a nearby plaza after the last paper. They were going to find something nice to eat before shopping together.

After a terrific feast at a famous restaurant, they strolled on the streets, ready to commence their shopping spree. As soon as they passed around a bend, they heard a voice calling out from behind.

“Caprice?”

Caprice jumped and turned around.

It was a tall and lean boy who greeted her, and his skin was fair as snow. He looked a couple of years older than her.

He smiled warmly.

Caprice was about to ask who this strange person was when Freya immediately cried out in a shrill voice, “Moses!” Moses!

Where had she heard the name before?

Piper exclaimed, “Moses? Moses Stewart? The one who’s been voted as the most attractive man on campus for four years in a row?”

Freya contained the excitement in her shrill voice as best as she could. “It's him! But he just graduated this year, so we’re going to have to see who his replacement will be going forward.” In the middle of their exchange, Moses walked out of a shop lot and approached Caprice.

“Hey, Caprice, I’m Moses Stewart, nice to meet you.” He smiled and held out his hand to Caprice. He carried himself with such formality that it looked like he was trying to make his best impression as a businessman. It was sort of humorous.

Caprice suppressed a smile and gently shook his hands while asking politely, “Hi there, senior. Do you need something from me?”

He smiled and remarked, “I was going to look for you a few days ago, but | know you were busy with the finals, so | figured | shouldn’t bother you. What a nice coincidence meeting you here! It must be fate.”

He paused dramatically to swipe careful glances at Freya, Piper, and Lana before turning back to Caprice. “My friend owns that dessert cafe over there. I'll treat you girls to something nice while we chat.”

Chapter 1834

Chapter 1834 It was a very famous dessert cafe, and many people had been posting about it online lately.

Caprice and her friends were shocked to hear that Moses’ friend was the owner of the place. Before Caprice could even have time to consider, her friends accepted the invitation for her. With that, they head toward the dessert cafe with Moses taking the lead.

Caprice had no choice but to tag along. There was a nice seat upstairs next to a window.

As if by intention, Caprice’s friends made sure to let Caprice and Moses sit at a separate table. Caprice did not mind since it looked like Moses had something he wanted to tell her.

After ordering a cup of tea, they turned their attention to each other. While sipping her cup of fruity tea, she asked casually, “What is it that you wanted to tell me?”

“Here’s the situation: a few friends and | recently set up a small company. We develop technological gadgets, and we recently have a newly launched product.

As he provided the preliminary information, he reached for his phone and showed it to Caprice. It was a slide with brief details of the innovational gadget he was referring to.

Although Caprice was not a technology savant by any means, she had picked up some business sense from her parents growing up. She had the bare-bones instincts to help her gauge the potential of a product.

Her gut was telling her that there was a lot of potential here. A marketing push was all it needed. After she read the slide, she asked, “Why are you showing me this though? | don’t think what I’m majoring in right now has anything to do with this.”

Besides, she was still a student and had no practical experience to speak of.

Moses narrowed his eyes and smiled. His was a sincere smile that inspired trust, and it did help that he was very handsome. “I want you to be our brand ambassador.”

Caprice grew wide-eyed. “Your ambassador?” “Yes.” “I'm just a student, not some kind of celebrity.”

Moses scratched the back of his head and suddenly seemed uncharacteristically shy “I think you look just as good as any celebrity on TV.”

“But I’m not famous.”

Moses took a deep breath and braced himself for a confession, “Well, the thing is, we can’t possibly afford an actual celebrity.” Caprice pursed her lips.

Moses looked at her and spoke with sincerity, “Caprice, our company may have accumulated

some funds, but it’s not even enough to sign an influencer, much less a celebrity

Caprice grew puzzled and asked, “You have a good product here Why not find someone to invest in it?”

Once they had a sizeable investment, the marketing should no longer be an issue

Moses shook his head gravely “We do have potential investors, but most of them are looking to assimilate us into their company. You see, we want to become our own bosses.”

It did make sense, Caprice supposed. The world of business had always been a dog-eat-dog world, and nobody would invest in something if they did not benefit

directly from it. On Caprice’s father’s journey to cementing himself as the richest and most powerful man in Glanchester, he had to resort to some ruthless business tactics as well

Moses, on the other hand, looked like he was starting from the ground up. Without any financial backing, it was likely he was going to get swallowed by the venture capitalists before he could. even take off

“Could you send me a copy of your product details?” Caprice asked. Moses’ eyes glowed with hope “Does that mean you want to be our ambassador?”

Caprice was confident enough in her looks, but she was not sure she had the bravado to become a brand ambassador She smiled and explained, “Maybe | can help you find a suitable investor.” Moses hesitated. He was not expecting such a reply

It would be ideal if Caprice could somehow find a respectable connection for him, but she was just a sophomore in university. Besides, she was enrolled in arguably the least prestigious course available, so what sort of connection could she possibly have?

Caprice smiled faintly

It seemed like she did not realize that her smile had power over people. A combination of her dreamy looks of warm smile easily mesmerized people.

Moses suddenly felt his ears growing red hot.

They decided to exchange contact information for now.

Chapter 1835

Chapter 1835 It was almost ten by the time they left the dessert cafe.

There was only half an hour before the dorm gates would close. Caprice was going to take a taxi back, but Moses suddenly ran out of the cafe and stopped her.

He offered kindly, “I have a car. Let me send you home.”

Caprice was going to refuse out of politeness, but Freya made the call before she could. “Alright, thanks for the help!” Moses smiled warmly. “You're welcome.”

Caprice pursed her lips.

Moses’ car was parked nearby. He drove a Maserati worth nearly five million, and it was a very impressive car to own especially at his age. Furthermore, he was the owner of a company.

Lana and Freya both seemed starstruck.

The two of them made sure they got into the car first. They took the back row without any qualms and made Piper squeeze in the back row with them. They left the passenger seat for Caprice.

Moses drove carefully and sent them back to the dorm in no time.

After Caprice got out of the car, she waved goodbye to Moses before walking back to the dorm with her friends. “Caprice, you chatted with Moses for so long. What did you two talk about?” Freya wasted no time prying for information. Lana and Piper listened in as well, eager for gossip.

Caprice knew what they were thinking, so she quickly clarified, “We were just talking about his company. He has this line of product coming out and it’s...”

She briefly talked about the product.

The three of them seemed utterly baffled by what they were hearing.

“Stop!” Freya suddenly interrupted her and asked brazenly, “He came to give you a sales pitch?” “He couldn't afford to sign on any celebrities as his brand ambassador, so he was hoping | would take the offer.” Her friends were completely speechless.

Caprice clarified, “I declined.”

That was enough to shut therm

up

for now.

The next morning, Caprice slept until she woke up naturally.

Both Freya and Piper had already gone home while Lana was in the middle of packing her luggage.

Caprice planned to take a thorough shower, then she would ask her parents if they were going to pick her up. Her plans were foiled when she picked up the phone only to see the message her mother had sent her an hour ago.

“Caprice, I’m so sorry but something urgent came up today, so we don’t have time to pick you up. The good news is that Liam happens to be coming to Glanchester for a business trip, so we troubled him to pick you up since both of you will be coming from Westchester.”

They asked Liam to give her a ride?

Was he here already?

She quickly texted Liam. “Liam, are you here already?” Liam replied shortly after, “Yeah.”

He was here already?

Why didn’t he call her?!

She scrambled out of bed and took the fastest shower she had taken in her life. Then, she threw on a dress and slapped on some simple makeup before dragging her suitcase out of the dorm.

Liam's car was parked outside under the shade of a tree. It was rather out of the way, so nobody would notice it without paying careful attention.

The driver got out of the car and helped Caprice put the suitcase into the trunk. Caprice got into the car.

Liam was wearing a black suit as always. There was hardly any perceptible emotion on his face. Neither did he seem to have grown impatient from the wait, nor did he look enthusiastic to see Caprice.

Perhaps he had just arrived as well? Caprice heaved a sigh of relief. She smiled and thanked him politely, “Liam, thanks for taking the time to pick me up.”

Liam said rather formally, “No trouble at all. It's along the way anyway.”
