Ch. 1836..1840
Chapter 1837
Caprice grinned. “Alright.”
Madam Stockton was pleased with her response. She motioned and said, “Come on, your parents are home as well, they’re waiting for you.”
Caprice got into the shuttle car with her.
Several minutes later, they stopped at John and Sherry’s courtyard.
She got out of the car with Madam Stockton.
“Darling...”
She had barely stepped into the when a figure came flying towards her. She felt a pair of arms wrapped tightly around her and kisses were planted on her cheeks.
She groaned playfully, “Mom, I’m nineteen years old.”
The beautiful lady who seemed unfathomably young despite her age and was showering her with passionate affection was none other than Sherry.
Upon noticing Caprice’s reaction, she pinched her chubby cheeks and stated, “Caprice, I’m your mother. | don’t care if you’re in your sixties. You're still going to be my darling daughter, and I’m still going to kiss you, got it?”
Caprice chuckled. “Got it.”
Sherry let go of her and ruffled her hair. Then, she looked around before asking, “Why are you alone? Where's Liam?” Madam Stockton asked in a puzzled voice, “Liam? Do you mean Young Master Carter?”
Sherry gave her a nod and turned to Caprice, hoping for an answer.
John had shown up as well. He stood next to Sherry and looked tenderly at their daughter.
Caprice answered frankly, “He’s gone.”
“Why did he leave?” Sherry was puzzled. “Didn’t you invite him to come in?”
Caprice explained, “He said he was coming here on a business trip, so he could give me a ride. | didn’t want to take his time.”
Sherry pinched her cheeks again. “You silly girl, so what if he’s on a business trip? You should at least invite him to join us instead of letting him walk away!”
She was aware that her daughter had feelings for Liam. Since he had been so nice to send her home, she should at least invite him into the house as a token of appreciation, and it was also a chance for them to spend time together.
Caprice lowered her head to the ground, “Alright, I’ll do that next time.” She wagered that Liam would refuse anyway. He had formal business to attend to as well as a girlfriend. Sherry looked like she had something more to say about the matter but was interrupted by John.
John pulled Sherry to his side and spoke to her in a low voice, “It’s alright, it’s no big deal. We've known him since he was a child. He won't feel slighted just because of something minor like this.”
Then, he turned to Caprice again, “Caprice, you've been in the car for several hours. Why don’t you go back to your room and get some rest?”
“Okay,” Caprice said dryly before turning into the familiar courtyard and heading back to her room.
Madam Stockton and the housemaids who used to take care of her when she was a child followed after her.
After watching them leave, Sherry turned to John and asked cautiously, “Do you think there’s something wrong with her?” She was usually very attentive and friendly, and it was quite uncharacteristic of her to not invite Liam into the house. John made a look and remarked, “She’s not a child anymore. She knows what she’s doing.”
“Do you think she had a falling out with Liam?” Sherry speculated.
John laughed and brushed it off. “What kind of falling out? It’s not like they’re in a relationship.”
“Even if they’re not in a relationship, they're still good friends. It’s not unheard of for friends to get into arguments.”
John did his best to convince her, “No, Liam wouldn’t argue with Caprice. | don’t think he’s ever expressive enough to get into an argument anyway.”
“Let me ask Caprice.” “Don't. Let her rest for a while.” Sherry suddenly grew annoyed and asked crossly, “Don’t you want to see Caprice and Liam together in the future?”
Why was he being so obtuse?
Chapter 1838
John raised his palm and rest it on top of Sherry’s head. He said in a comforting voice, “It’s not that | don’t want them to be together. What | want is for Caprice to be in a relationship with a man that she likes, and for that man to be someone who would reciprocate her feelings and is capable of caring for her.”
Sherry pointed out, “That's Liam, isn’t it?” John shook his head, his expression skeptical. “I’m not seeing it. “He’s just a little emotionally distant. Sylvia talked to me about it as well. She’s sure Liam has feelings for Caprice.”
John scoffed, “Caprice is a sensible and empathetic girl. Of course, the Carters will want her as their daughter-in-law. As for Liam, that boy is like a block of ice. I've never seen any display of emotions from him at all. Even if we are to allow the two to date, it has to wait until Caprice graduates, and until he learns to clearly express his feelings for her.”
Sherry pursed her lips. John made some reasonable points.
Liam was too stoic for his own good at times. His entire life, he had never opened himself up to anyone except Caprice and his family members. This temperament was only further reinforced as he grew into adulthood. However, nobody could deny that his was a brilliant mind destined for success, and the development of the world-renowned Carter Tech City was a testament to his abilities.
In truth, even his parents had trouble figuring out what exactly was on his mind.
Caprice was still relatively young, and they were not in a rush to marry her off.
In Caprice’s room, Madam Stockton sat next to her.
Caprice was munching on some snacks Madam Stockton brought for her while the madam was jovially chatting with Emerence.
Caprice was left to entertain herself on the phone. She was looking at the group chat with her roommates. Everyone had returned to their hometowns safely.
Piper was the first to get home. Lana was the last to depart and had just arrived as well.
Freya was still on the bullet train on the way to her hometown. She was going to stay in her hometown for a week before heading back to Westchester since she had a part-time job lined up. She would work until the next semester began.
Caprice also sent a message, informing everyone she had got home as well. Then, she decided to text Liam. She wanted to ask if his business trip was progressing smoothly.
She suddenly recalled that he had a girlfriend now. he presumed that Heather would be coming along with him for the business trip.
When they were on their way to Glanchester, it had only been her and Liam in the car. She figured that Heather must have come separately and that she would meet up with Liam soon.
With that in mind, she decided against texting Liam.
She set down her phone and planned to take a short nap.
That was when her phone suddenly rang. It was a text from somebody.
She picked up her phone and saw a message from Moses. “Hey, Caprice, have you arrived in your hometown yet?” Caprice replied swiftly, “Hey, Moses. Yeah, | just got home.”
Moses replied, “Alright, have a fun summer break.”
Caprice sent a smiling emoji.
That was the end of their conversation.
She suddenly rose from the bed.
When Madam Stockton noticed that she was headed somewhere, she asked out of curiosity,” Where are you going?” Caprice told her, “There’s something | want to discuss with Mom and Dad.”
Madam Stockton spoke tenderly, “Alright, make sure you come back after your talk. | told our kitchen staff to make something delicious for you.”
Caprice smiled and nodded before heading out. She wanted to talk to her parents about finding potential investors for Moses’ company.
Shortly after, she stepped into the adjacent courtyard and waltzed into the living room.
When she approached the threshold leading into the living room, she chanced upon the sight of her mother straddling herself around John. The two were sharing an intimate moment, exchanging kisses.
It seemed like the ravages of time had done nothing to them. They looked just as young and vibrant as they did in the past. It was a loving sight to behold.
Caprice felt like she was intruding on something she was not supposed to see. She hurriedly covered her face in embarrassment and tried to flee the scene.
Chapter 1839
John and Sherry noticed her just in time, so they quickly removed themselves from each other and sat upright on the couch. The dreamy scene Caprice witnessed only a moment ago seemed like. nothing more than a mirage.
“Caprice, is there something you need?” John asked, flashing a fatherly smile. Sherry seemed very eager to hear what was on Caprice’s mind as well.
With that, Caprice joined them in the living room and briefly told them about her meeting with Moses. She presented the product information that Moses had sent to her.
Her parents read through it attentively. Sherry remarked, “It looks like it’s in its infancy stages, but | do see a lot of potential here. It’s very innovative.” John seemed to agree. “Forward this to me and give me Moses’ information. I'll have Peter make the necessary arrangements.”
“Why don’t you leave this to me instead?” Sherry proposed, “Even if you ask Peter to oversee this deal, | think it’s only a matter of time before Moses finds out about Caprice’s connection to you.
Caprice had always kept her family background a secret since she was a child. Piper, her childhood friend who she had known for more than a decade, was the only one who knew about her family.
It was in everyone's best interest that nobody found out about Caprice’s family. They did not want to risk drawing unwanted attention, especially since she was in Westchester, miles away from her parents who could protect her.
John agreed, “Okay.”
Sherry turned to Caprice. “Caprice, you can tell Moses that someone will get in touch with him later on.” Caprice was very grateful. “Okay. Thank you, Mom.”
John coughed.
Caprice quickly turned to him. “And thank you too, Dad.”
John smiled, feeling satisfied.
Sherry gave him a sideways look, then she went outside to make a phone call.
Caprice sent Moses a text as well, informing him that an investor would get in touch with him
soon.
After sending the text, she looked up to see both her parents staring at her, the two of them looked like they had discovered a particularly enticing secret.
John probed casually, “Caprice, how long have you known this Moses boy?” Caprice answered, “Only a day.” “You're willing to help him when you've only known him for a day?” Sherry seemed surprised.
It seemed perfectly logical to Caprice, so she remarked, “He’s a very popular guy in our university and is one of the top students. All| can say is that he’s a pretty decent character and that | can vouch for him. It will be a safe investment, | promise.”
Sherry suddenly grew skeptical. “But you’ve only known him for a day. How can you be sure that he’s as trustworthy and reliable as you say?”
“| talked to him. I’ve also heard some of the things people say about him. He seems like a stand- out guy overall.” “You mentioned he’s very popular. | assume he’s very handsome?” Sherry asked a rather left-field question. Caprice remarked candidly, “He’s okay.”
Sherry asked, “Compared to Liam?”
Caprice stirred briefly, then she said, “Liam wins in that department.”
Sherry eased her concerns. It seemed like all Caprice wanted was to help him out.
She had always been very kind-hearted since she was a child. Although she had only known Moses for a day, it does seem like the boy was rather trustworthy. Since he was the one who went to Caprice for help, it was the right thing to give him a boost.
Besides, it did seem like a good investment from a solely business perspective. Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
Caprice had been spending most of her time at home. Madam Stockton and her parents stayed at home for the past two days as well.
This morning, her parents left for work at last. Madam Stockton went out with some friends as well.
This tended to be routine during every semester break whenever Caprice came home. During the first few days, her family would stay at home since it had been a long time since they last saw her. After the initial days, they would revert to their usual day-to- day routine.
Caprice stayed at home by herself, lying on the couch with nothing to do. She did not have many hobbies to speak of. All she could do was either scroll through social media, pick up a book to read, or find something to snack on.
Another option was to stalk Liam’s profile to see what he was up to.
