Ch. 2116..2120
Chapter 2116
Isabel's light tone was proof that she was not affected by the comments online.
Caprice felt relieved. She no longer insisted on visiting anymore and simply said, “Okay.”
Sylvia told her to rest properly other than working hard.
After the brief family chat, Isabel put her phone down and went to sleep.
The night was quiet. When she closed her eyes, her head uncontrollably thought of Roland.
It annoyed her. She tossed and turned on the bed and still could not fall asleep.
She got up, switched on the lamp next to her bed, and went on her phone to check the comments online.
Someone took a video of her that night when she broke up with Roland. She went drinking at the restaurant, got drunk, and was dragged away by Amanda and Carla.
As soon as she tapped on the video, she could already hear herself crying. Even through the screen, she felt embarrassed.
The netizens gloated at her.
"Did the girl break up with her boyfriend? It's so funny how she cries.”
"I'm sorry. | can't help but laugh."
"She looks like a husky when she cries."
Other than her fans consoling her, the others were laughing and gloating at her.
There were a number of haters and fans of other celebrities who mocked her, calling her a disturbance to society for crying that loud at night.
Anyone with a sane mind could tell that they were trying to mock her, and no one replied to their comments either. Isabel was not bothered at all.
Triss and Ramona were worried that Isabel might be affected by the comments, so they went on the chat group and texted her telling her to not take those comments seriously.
Isabel answered them, "I’m fine."
Triss did not say anything else.
Ramona curiously asked, "Isabel, did you really just break up with him?"
Isabel answered, "Yeah."
Ramona consoled her briefly but did not ask about the details.
She went through her social media and talked to her friends for a while. She finally got tired. She put her phone down, switched off the lamp, and went to sleep.
Meanwhile at Westchester Grand Hotel, Clarice was sitting by the bed as she checked on the comments online about Isabel. There was an obvious displeasure on her face.
She called her secretary and asked, "What’s going on? Why is everyone saying that she's funny? | thought people were supposed to sneer at her and scold her."
Her secretary answered, "Ms. Houston, I've just gotten an update from the marketing department and they said the video doesn't show Isabel doing anything bad. Isabel is always a candy in the eye of the audience, so the netizens simply thought she was being herself because they were able to see a different side of her. Not only was it funny, but it also felt authentic and there was nothing they could attack her with.”
Clarice grunted.
In short, posting the video online indirectly helped Isabel garner attention.
The secretary added, "Ms. Houston, even though the internet isn't scolding her, they think she’s being funny.
Isabel just broke up and those comments will surely make her sadder."
Clarice scolded, "Are you dumb? Isabel isn't an idiot like you. Why would she be sad if the video won her more attention?" The secretary apologized, "I'm sorry, Ms. Houston. I’m not being considerate enough."
Clarice sighed and said coldly, "Contact Isabel and the sponsors who worked with her closely."
Isabella thought that the video of Isabel crying was not enough for the netizens to scold her, and the other video had no meaning either.
Therefore, Clarice decided to strike from another perspective. The secretary answered, "Right away, Ms. Houston."
The call ended.
Clarice looked outside the window coldly.
She swore to teach the rude Isabel a lesson.
Then, Decker's towering came and stood outside the door.
Chapter 2117
Decker's deep eyes contained different feelings.
He stood outside the door for a while before he returned to the study room. His assistant followed him to the study room as well. Decker sat down on the chair and went online to see the video of Isabel crying.
When he broke up with her a few years back, she did not even cry this terribly.
He frowned. His gaze turned frosty.
His assistant noticed the change in his expression and asked, "Mr. Rockwell, should | stop Ms. Houston?" Decker returned to his usual elegance and said, "Just let her be."
Now that Isabel had broken up with Roland and entered a slump in her career, she must be feeling terrible. If Decker could appear by her side in a timely manner, she might return to his side once more.
A busy weekend later, Isabel finished shooting all her scenes.
After the last dinner with the crew and director, she returned to Westchester with Carla.
It was late at night. The car was driving on an empty freeway.
The car stopped in front of the gates of Karat One, the estate with the large mansion.
Before Isabel could react, Carla bellowed at the driver, Johnny, "Why did you drive us here? Turn around!"
Johnny realized he had driven to the wrong place. He quickly turned the car around and drove back to the apartment where Isabel stayed before moving to Karat One.
Isabel closed her eyes and did not say anything.
It was not Johnny's fault. She was the one who instructed him to drive to Karat One earlier, and it was out of instinct. The car soon arrived at her apartment.
Isabel and Carla got out of the car and two bodyguards escorted them into the elevator.
The elevator opened up on the floor where she lived.
Beside the elevator was the unit that Decker bought.
Isabel did not even look in that direction and headed back to her own place with Carla and the bodyguards. She had not come back for a long time but the house was surprisingly clean.
Isabel looked at Carla. "Did you call a cleaner to clean the place up?"
Carla fluttered her eyes. "No, it’s not me."
Someone must have cleaned the place before she came back. Who was it?
As Isabel pondered, a familiar voice came from one of the rooms. "Issy, are you back?"
Isabel's expression changed.
Her beloved mother, Sylvia, and two aunties who helped raise her came out.
Sylvia strode to her daughter and sized the girl up from top to bottom.
Isabel was surprised. "Mom, why didn't you tell me you’re coming?"
Sylvia held her hand and said softly, "| missed you, so | came."
Isabel's eyes teared up. She puckered her lips and then said, "You can just call me and ask me to go home." It was Sylvia who cleaned the place with the help of the aunties.
“How did you know | was coming back today?"
Sylvia pinched the girl's nose. "Your manager told me."
Isabel chuckled.
Carla and the bodyguards left the mother and daughter alone.
Isabel hugged her mother tightly. "Mom, | missed you." Sylvia patted the girl's head and said, "I know. | know. Mom misses you
too.’
Chapter 2118
Chapter 2118 With Sylvia's company, Isabel had a good night's sleep.
Since Isabel had a commercial shoot later in the day, she only had breakfast with her mother before she parted ways with her and left with Carla and the bodyguards to the next destination.
As soon as the car hit the road, Carla moved closer to
Isabel with a mischievous grin. "Isabel, your mother looks so young and so beautiful! | bet you got your looks from her." Isabel smiled.
If her mother was not beautiful enough, she would not be that beautiful either.
Carla continued, "But | somehow find your mother familiar, it's like I've seen her before."
Isabel's eyes fluttered.
Other than being Isabel's assistant, Carla had many hobbies, and enjoying paintings was one of them. She had seen many famous painters and read many art magazines.
Since Sylvia was a famous painter, she was a regular in art magazines, so Carla must have seen her on the cover or whatnot. A quick thought later, Isabel said, "Maybe | look like my mother and you've seen me a lot, that’s why you find her familiar.” "Really? | feel like I've seen her somewhere."
"It must be. Let's put that aside first. Ask Amanda if the client is ready. We're reaching soon."
"Oh. Okay."
Carla was successfully distracted. She reached for her phone and called Amanda.
Isabel breathed a sigh of relief.
However, before she could relax, she heard Carla’s squeal.
She turned to her and saw Carla's depressing look.
“What’s wrong?” Isabel asked.
Carla said timidly, "Amanda said we don't need to go to the commercial shoot anymore. We're not taking the client's advertisement.”
"Not shooting anymore?"
Isabel remembered Amanda went through a lot to get this client to agree. Three days ago, Amanda even called her to be prepared, so what caused the sudden change?
"Did Amanda say anything else?"
“Amanda said all your schedule is pushed back a week and told you to have a good rest."
There was no way Amanda would push her schedule back for a week. Something must have happened. Isabel pulled her phone out and called Amanda herself.
The call got through after a few seconds.
Amanda did not say anything as if she was hesitating whether to tell Isabel or not.
Isabel asked, "Amanda, what happened?"
Amanda stammered, "Isabel, it's actually... Isabel switched to a more relaxed tone and said, "I’m fine. Just tell me what happened.”
Amanda sighed. "All the commercials and shoots that | got for you are all canceled. I'm negotiating with the clients but they say they received orders from the higher-ups to cancel the shoot, so there's nothing left for this week. Maybe you should take a good rest."
"Someone is trying to snatch my commercials?"
"Yeah. | believe so. It should be the same person from another time."
Clarice Houston!
Isabel suddenly thought of the video of her crying that got leaked on the internet.
If she was correct, Angela must have taken the video, sent it to Isabella, and eventually ended up at Clarice's side. Clarice must have realized leaking the video did not affect her at all, hence the more direct approach.
Isabel pursed her lips.
Clarice must have thought that now that Roland had left Isabel, he would not help his ex-girlfriend anymore, so she used this chance to take revenge on Isabel.
Chapter 2119
Noticing Isabel's silence, Amanda asked, "Isabel, are you okay?"
Isabel exhaled and said, "Amanda, I'm fine. You don't need to worry about me." She was not a weak and fragile girl anymore.
"I'm glad you're holding up," Amanda said with relief. She added, "Isabel, the brands and clients that we worked with before are still with us, and the movies and dramas that we've gotten are still progressing as planned. That person just messed up our recent plans, so why don't you take some time off? I'll think of a way."
Isabel pondered and said, "Alright. Amanda, take it easy. If we lose the recent ones, just let it be." She suddenly wanted to have a good rest.
She wanted to go back home, eat the food that Aunt Tonya cooked, watch her mother paint, and play with Liam and Caprice’s baby.
Amanda noticed Isabel's sudden tonal shift. She sighed and said, "Alright. I'll do whatever | can. You take care.”
"Alright."
The call ended.
Isabel leaned back and said to Johnny, "Turn around at the next junction."
Worried, Carla looked at her and asked, "Isabel..."
Isabel smiled at her. "I'm fine. You and Johnny should go back after you’ve dropped me off.”
Other than the variety show recording on the weekend, she would have to wait until the end of next month to have a shoot. Isabel then said to them, "You guys can do whatever you want after the weekend's recording."
Carla noticed that other than the slight depression from ending the relationship with Roland, there was nothing wrong with her. She breathed a sigh of relief and said," Okay."
Back at Amanda's office, she breathed a long sigh of relief after the call with Isabel.
Isabel had just broken up with Roland, and she thought the girl would be devastated after knowing the news. She did not expect Isabel to take it calmly and did not care about the commercial shoots they lost.
The girl seemed to be tougher than she thought.
She did not have to be overly worried about Isabel.
Then, she looked at the other phone on her desk.
The screen was showing the contact list and the first one on the list was Roland.
Isabel was criticized when she accidentally stepped on Isabella's dress during a fashion event. After that incident calmed down, Roland got to her and asked for her contact number.
He told her not to let Isabel know and wanted her to call him if Isabel ran into troubles that she could not overcome.
Isabel was almost banned by the mainstream media the other time and Amanda got nervous. She got to Roland and told him someone was messing with Isabel, and to her surprise, the matter was resolved before she knew it.
When she talked to Isabel on the phone earlier, she was hesitating whether to ask Roland for help. After the call, her hesitation was cleared and she turned off the contact list on her phone.
The man had broken up with Isabel. Even if he was willing to help, Isabel's temper would forbid him to intervene. Amanda decided not to contact Roland but she had to come up with a way to deal with the situation.
Isabel returned to her apartment.
She told Carla and Johnny to go home and even gave the bodyguards a day off.
She walked into the building and the elevator arrived as soon as she pressed the button.
She wanted to grab some stuff from her apartment before she headed home to her family.
When she stepped out of the elevator, she spotted Decker at the unit beside hers.
He wore a gray shirt and long pants and was leaning against the wall that was connecting both units.
He smiled softly at her when the elevator door opened." Isabel, it’s been a while."
Isabel glanced at him. She wanted to go back inside the elevator but the door closed.
Before she could escape, Decker went upto her.
Chapter 2120
Chapter 2120 Decker stared at her. "Isabel, I'm just here to see you, nothing else." Isabel was not in the mood to talk to him, so she ignored him.
Decker noticed the frosty reaction. He sighed and said, "| know you just broke up with Roland and seem to have lost all your commercial work."
With both love life and career in a slump, she should be devastated.
Just when she thought Isabel would look devastated or break down in tears, Isabel stared at the elevator door coldly and did not respond to his words.
She did not look sad or devastated at all, which surprised Decker. He refused to believe Isabel did not feel anything.
With Roland gone and her commercials lost, no one was there for her. The confidence of a woman with no background would surely be dented no matter how strong she was.
How could she feel nothing?
His eyes fluttered. He sighed and added, "Isabel, | know you're feeling terrible. There are the two of us here. | won't laugh at you and you don’t need to hide your emotions."
Isabel was confused.
Did the man lose his mind?
She did not want to talk to him, not hiding her emotions.
Then, the elevator arrived and the door opened. Isabel walked in without saying a word.
Decker went inside with her.
"Isabel, where are you going?" He looked at her gently but worried.
Annoyed, Isabel looked at him and said, "Can you shut up?"
"I'm worried about you." Decker stood in front of her.
Isabel frowned. She was alarmed by the sudden intimacy. " Decker, what are you trying to do?" Worried?
She had always been like that.
Decker kept a twenty centimeters distance from her, seemingly a gentlemanly move.
“lm not trying to do anything. I'm just worried about you,” he said with a frown and sincere gaze. Isabel was not in the mood to expose his lies. She said coldly, "I'm fine. | don't need you to worry about me."
Decker said in a small voice, "| won't take advantage of you, but it hurts me to see you like this. | know you still hate me, but | can help you get back the commercials if you just ask."
He looked gentle and caring. If Isabel was a mindless and innocent girl, she would have fallen for him.
Now, she found his appeal amusing.
“Decker, if you don't want to see me like this, you'd have gotten the commercials back before you come to me."
She looked at his changing expression and added, "If I'm correct, you should already know that the one who snatched all my commercials away is your fiancee, Clarice Houston."
The gentleness in Decker's eyes disappeared.
He realized Isabel was no longer the simple and helpless girl he picked up on the road five years ago.
She was confident in her beauty and she had gotten smarter.
He could no longer lie to or bluff her.
Embarrassing displeasure flashed from his eyes before he curled his lips. He grinned at Isabel wickedly and said," Isabel, it's not good for a woman to be too smart.”
Isabel scoffed. "It’s you who are being stupid."
He must have either taken her as the girl who lost her memories from five years ago or simply assumed she would fall for his trick again.
Decker's gaze turned grim. He moved closer and started to threaten her. "Isabel, know your place." Then, the elevator stopped on the first floor. Isabel wanted to circle him but he grabbed her hand.
She glared at him and bellowed, "Let go!"
