Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3061
On One Knee
The topic about feelings always gave rise to controversy. Furthermore, men and women had varying mentalities. Larry was just worried that this sister of his would completely close herself off from love.
“You two are truly amazing, huh? Seeing as you both managed to keep such major news from me,” Nancy grumbled, feigning displeasure as she snacked on some fruits.
“Alright, alright. We’re telling you now, aren’t we?” Jessica coaxed.
“Are you kidding me? Larry is proposing to Joan today, and you’re only telling me about it now.”
This woman is taking this more seriously than I thought. Abelyn stifled a smile and quickly consoled her, “Alright. From now on, whenever there’s good news, I’ll tell you right away, okay?”
Nancy nodded with satisfaction. That’s more like it. Abelyn is still the more sensible one out of all of them.
“Anyway, we’ll leave Joan to you, yeah?” Jessica gently patted Nancy’s shoulder. After giving them an OK sign, Nancy took her leave.
Both Jessica and Abelyn giggled as they watched her retreating figure. In this whole world, Joan was probably the only one who could put up with Nancy’s mischievous ways.
“Nancy, what the hell are you up to?” Joan asked in slight annoyance. “How am I supposed to see where I’m going with my eyes covered like that?”
See where you’re going? Oh honey, why would you need to see when you have me?
“Larry wants to give you a big surprise, so just be patient and wait,” Nancy whispered into her ear with a cheeky grin.
Surprise? What surprise? Why haven’t I heard anything about this? Joan tilted her head thoughtfully. What’s that rascal planning this time? Why is Nancy conspiring with him to bully me too?
Joan muttered incoherently while walking blindly. Finally, the two of them came to a stop.
When her eyes were uncovered, surprise instantly flooded her. What’s this? What in the world is going on? Puzzled, she eyed Larry warily as he slowly made his way over to her.
Upon coming within touching distance, he abruptly got down to one knee, causing Joan’s eyes to widen with shock as panic lined her face.
“What are you doing? Get up! This is embarrassing!” she exclaimed while trying to help Larry up from the ground.
What’s there to be embarrassed about? Isn’t it normal for a man to get down on one knee while proposing to a woman?
Without giving himself time to think, Larry presented her with a ring and raised his voice to say, “Marry me, Joan Watts!”
Joan was dumbfounded. Never in a million years did she expect Larry’s surprise to be a proposal.
For a moment, her mind was unable to register what was happening.
“Marry him! Marry him!” Jessica started chanting by the sidelines.
Soon, everyone joined in, livening up the entire venue. When Joan finally snapped back to her senses, all she could feel was infinite happiness.
She had been waiting for this moment for a very long time. Wiping away her tears, she gazed at him pitifully. “What took you so long?”
Everyone burst into laughter upon hearing this unexpected response.
“It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have made you wait this long.” Larry jerked her into his arms and kissed her softly.
“Wait!” A familiar male voice rang out from a distance.
Isn’t that Jake’s voice? Joan backed away subconsciously with displeasure written all over her face. She didn’t want to see Jake, but it was because she was afraid he would get himself hurt.
After all, he was her savior.
“Joan, have you really made up your mind? He’s Larry Norton! The man who once abandoned you.” Jake spoke in a provoking manner while approaching her.
What the hell is he talking about? Since when has Larry ever abandoned Joan? Jessica and Abelyn shot vicious glares at him as they gnashed their teeth together. This jerk is obviously making up lies!
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3062
An Affair
Jessica stormed over to him and asserted, “You’re lying! Larry and Joan are truly in love. Even though Joan hasn’t regained her memories, Larry would never abandon her.”
This damned girl is really loyal, isn’t she? She’s willing to do just about anything for her brother! Jake sneered and pushed her aside.
“What? Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten, Larry? Back then when Joan went missing, you never looked for her.”
What the hell is he saying? Of course I did. I sent people out every day to search for her, but we couldn’t find her until… Wait, what the hell is he up to this time?
Larry narrowed his eyes at the man, trying to see through his tricks. Judging by his demeanor, he had come fully prepared.
“Don’t be fooled by him, Joan. During the time you went missing, he went to a bar and hooked up with a girl, drinking and enjoying himself!”
The next second, Jake threw down a bunch of photos in front of the two of them.
Joan was dumbstruck upon seeing those photos. She never expected that the man she loved would have an affair with a girl at a bar.
The photos were actually taken when Larry visited a bar to drown in his sorrows when Joan was still missing.
This b*stard must’ve spent a fortune to get these, huh? Larry looked at him coldly. The aura he exuded was downright terrifying.
Picking up the photos from the ground, Joan asked in an eerily frosty voice, “What’s this about, Larry? Explain.”
How should I explain this? That I just needed an outlet, and we only had some drinks together but nothing else happened?
“You even danced with her?” Joan’s voice trembled as she looked at the photos in her hands.
Larry didn’t dance with the girl, but was actually dragged along by her in his intoxicated state.
“Joan, umm, this is all just a misunderstanding. I think you should listen to what Larry has to say-”
“Shut up!” Joan cut her off.
“Damn you, Larry! I can’t believe this is your so-called love for me! It seems like I was wrong about you!” With that, she threw the photos at Larry and stormed off.
Everyone was livid. This proposal could have been a success, but Jake had shown up and destroyed it.
Nancy shoved Jake angrily and yelled, “You did this on purpose!”
Jake sneered at her.
Of course, I did this on purpose. I just can’t stand the thought of Joan marrying Larry! I really don’t understand. What does she even see in him? Does he deserve her more than I do?
Jake looked up at the sky and laughed aloud with a mocking expression on his face. Then, he turned and left. If I can’t have her, neither can you, Larry!
“Jake, what the hell are you trying to do? You know that Joan doesn’t love you, yet you still want to get in between her and Larry. What are you really up to?” Jessica demanded with a finger pointed at him.
What am I up to? To f*ck everyone up, of course! Jake glanced at her, showing contempt as he answered in a disdainful tone, “You’ve misunderstood me. I only wanted Joan to know the truth.”
Jake, you son of a btch! Just because you can’t have her, you can’t stand the thought of them being together! You’re one cruel bstard! Jessica was beside herself with rage.
Meanwhile, Joan was nowhere to be found. Larry had been following her at first, but somehow, she managed to shake him off her tail.
Abelyn held Dustin’s hand and suggested with a worried expression, “We should help look for her too.”
Without a word, Dustin started the car. Where could she have run off to alone?
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3063
Distorted Truth
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel and clenched his jaw. This is all Jake’s fault. Does he have nothing better to do than bring up the past?
“Have you found her?” Larry sounded very anxious.
“No, but don’t worry. Everything will turn out fine,” Dustin reassured.
Holding his phone in one hand, a hint of resignation flickered in his eyes. Those photos were made to seem that way. And now, all that distorted truth is in Jake’s hands. What a joke!
Thud!
Larry rammed his fist onto the steering wheel, a murderous expression took residence on his face.
Both Jory and Nancy sprang into action as well. Unbeknownst to all of them, Joan had already left the country.
On the one hand, it was because she was really angry at Larry, but on the other, she wanted some time to herself so that she could relax completely.
Ring, ring!
Ignoring her ringing phone, Joan stared at the sea in a daze. Following that, her phone pinged with WhatsApp messages.
“Where are you Joan? We’re all very worried about you.” It was a voice message from Nancy.
“Joan, where have you gone off to? Larry is on the verge of losing his mind.” This was one from Jessica.
“Where the hell are you, Joan?” Dustin’s voice message came next.
There were also voice messages from Larry, Jory, Caspian, and many others.
However, Joan didn’t feel like listening to anyone’s voice. Hence, she simply switched off her phone and walked out with her coat in hand.
The weather is so good. Joan stretched out both arms and closed her eyes, as though she was hugging mother nature itself.
If only life can be this carefree forever. She sighed softly before her eyes grew cold.
She just couldn’t understand Larry. I used to think that I was his one true love. Who would’ve thought that he’d turn out to be a promiscuous man too?
Men are nothing but a joke.
Joan balled her fists by her sides as tears rolled down her cheeks. I gave my everything to Larry. I was even ready to marry him, but now…
Suddenly, a woman came over and patted her on the shoulder before asking, “Ma’am, are you okay?”
Joan was taken aback and she instinctively took a step back. Still shocked, she replied tersely, “I’m fine.”
Fine? She’s an emotional mess. How can she be fine?
“I’ve seen a fair share of the world at my age. If something’s troubling you, feel free to say it out loud,” the woman continued.
So, is she saying she’s wise and all that? Skeptical, Joan scrutinized the woman in front of her, but soon, she fell into deep thought.
Indeed, living as a human in this world is difficult because only pain and suffering follow after we’re born. When we’re kids, we’d be busy studying in school to get good grades. When we grow up, we’d be busy making money to support our families…
In fact, all we do is suffer from the day we’re born until the day we die. The only difference is that some people can survive it and enjoy a better life as they grow older, while others aren’t as lucky.
“It’s nothing serious. I just wanted to come out and relax.” Joan lowered her head, looking helpless.
Seeing as she was in a foreign place, she could actually tell everything to this woman. Unfortunately, she couldn’t muster up the courage to do so.
This woman would probably laugh if I told her.
“Don’t worry, child. I won’t tell anyone.”
Suddenly, all of Joan’s bottled-up emotions rushed to the surface like a tidal wave, and she spilled everything to the woman.
After she was done, as though a weight had been lifted off her chest, she could finally breathe easier.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3064
Peace And Quiet
Seeing Joan instantly relax, the woman smiled. Youngsters are known to be reckless. They just need time to cool off.
With that, the woman turned and walked away.
Looking at the figure in the distance, gratitude gleamed in Joan’s eyes.
There are certain things I find difficult to tell my family and friends, but I can always tell them to a stranger, right? Since we don’t know each other, I won’t need to worry if he or she will laugh at me. Besides, a civilized person wouldn’t laugh.
When the sky grew dark, Joan tugged her coat tighter around herself and turned to leave.
Back indoors, her phone kept ringing the moment she switched it back on. Perhaps she found it annoying, she picked up the call and put it on speaker before throwing the phone on the sofa.
“Joan, where are you now? We’re all going crazy here!” Jessica’s voice sounded panicked on the other end of the line. “Tell me where you are and I’ll go right over.”
Going crazy, huh? How crazy? Joan’ lips curled into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.
“I’ve gone abroad,” she answered impassively.
The person on the other end of the line fell silent.
Why did she leave the country all of a sudden? Unsettled, Jessica scratched the back of her head. I have to tell Larry about this!
“Joan, let me explain. The scandal about Larry is actually fake. Don’t believe a thing you see or hear,” Jessica quickly said.
Fake? Who’s she trying to bluff? Never mind if only one person says it, but it was even in the newspapers! How could it possibly be fake?
Joan bit down hard her bottom lip, trying to quell her anger.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m gonna hang up now.” With that, she directly ended the call.
“Joan, which country are you in now?” Nancy asked tentatively through the phone.
Naturally, Joan wouldn’t disclose that information. It was rare that she could come out for some air alone. Hence, she didn’t want anyone disturbing her peace and quiet.
Moreover, her anger hadn’t yet subsided.
“Nancy, I need space, so stop calling me, all of you.” Joan hung up right after that.
When the line went dead, Nancy’s eyes gradually dimmed. It looks like she’s really mad this time. I’ve never seen her leave the country out of anger.
She must be furious to have gone abroad just like that.
Damn that Jake! He went to great lengths, didn’t he? Going so far as bringing up all those false facts! The plan was to have the wedding a few weeks after the proposal was a success, but look what happened now. The bride has run away.
Nancy paced around the area, feeling utterly helpless. What should we do now?
By the side, Jory massaged his temples and suggested wearily, “Should we send someone to search for her abroad?”
Sounds easy, but send them where though?
Nancy was frustrated out of her mind. How am I supposed to send people in search of her when I don’t even know which country she went to?
She wrung her hands as her face clouded over.
Damn it, Larry! Why did you have to drink your sorrows away? Look at what happened. That jerk has something to use against you now.
“Stop pacing around. You’re making me dizzy,” Jory grumbled before closing his eyes.
Nancy immediately stopped and whipped out her phone to make a call. “If nothing’s working, let’s search through every country for her.”
“What? Are you crazy? Do you know how many countries there are in this world?” Jessica exclaimed over the phone.
Joan’s merely upset and wants to relax by herself. Why bother taking such drastic measures? Besides, she’s also a grown woman who can take care of herself.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3065
Get Lost
“Don’t worry about it anymore. We’ll do something if we still don’t get any news later on. I mean, we’ve got to give her some time to cool off, right?” Jessica said as she attempted to reassure Nancy.
Nancy heaved a sigh of relief after listening to her, and her features softened. However, she was still apprehensive about Joan’s safety.
Meanwhile, Larry appeared to be swamped in his office.
“Larry, are you really not worried at all?” Caspian made his way into Larry’s office and asked. There was no doubt that the man was worried sick.
Of course I’m worried. She’s the woman I love! Larry put down the pen in his hand and narrowed his eyes as he gazed out the window dolefully.
“So what if I’m worried about her? She’s not even picking up my calls,” Larry said helplessly.
Asking Larry about the matter was akin to stepping on his tail.
Joan would answer Jessica’s calls, and even Nancy’s. However, she just would not pick up Larry’s calls. It seems like she’s really mad at me this time.
Larry scratched the back of his head, feeling indignant about Joan’s attitude toward himself.
“Why don’t we just fly over to meet her?” Caspian lifted his head and asked in a small voice.
Larry actually knew where Joan was. He was just reluctant to upset her.
He had installed a tracking app on her phone. However, it was useless when her phone was off.
“No, it’s alright. We’ll wait two more days.” Larry waved his hands to dismiss Caspian’s idea.
Wait for another two days? Bemused, Caspian widened his eyes at the man before him.
He did not understand what was on Larry’s mind. Larry used to be anxious just without seeing Joan for one day. Why is he so laid back right now?
“Caspian, you haven’t been home for days.” A young woman dashed into Larry’s office right then.
What is happening right now? Caspian looked awkward at the woman’s sudden appearance. Why is she here?
“Hey, you. Get out of here,” Larry ordered the woman.
The young lady was stumped. Why is Larry so cold and distant? Did he seriously just ask me to get lost? Lisa clutched tightly to Caspian’s arms and put on a pitiful face.
“Larry, I’m sorry. I’ll take her away now.” Caspian dragged her away right after.
“What on earth do you want?” Caspian shrugged her off at the entrance of the company and asked coldly.
What do I want? I want you to acknowledge me! Jessica has broken things off with him, but it seems like he’s still not taking me seriously. This is really unfair!
Why is Caspian still thinking about that b*tch when she’s already dumped him? Damn it all! I will air our dirty laundry right here in front of everybody else!
“Caspian, it’s been a few days since I’ve seen you. I really miss you so much,” the young lady said in a coy manner as she put on a pitiful look again.
She misses me? The hell with that! She’s only missing my money! Caspian shrugged her off again, and harder, this time to distance himself from the young woman. He was afraid of others misunderstanding anything should they see him intertwined with her.
“Just leave. I need to work,” Caspian said before turning around to leave.
“Um…” The young woman tried to stop him.
“Caspian, I’m a bit short-handed right now. Could you lend me some money?” The young woman lowered her head and said in a small voice.
As expected, she’s only here looking for me because of money. Caspian lifted his head to look at the sky, sneering at himself for his luck.
Why should I give her money? She’s neither my girlfriend nor is she pregnant with my child. Why should I support her financially?
“Just leave and go look for the child’s father, and get married to him so that he could provide for the family. Don’t waste your energy on me. I know you’re not pregnant with my child, and I will not acknowledge you nor the baby,” Caspian said decisively.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3066
Making A Scene
The young woman was stumped, taken aback by the man’s stern manner.
“No, the baby is yours! Caspian, are you going to abandon your child?”
Duh, is she being serious? I don’t think she even knows who the father of the child is.
“Just drop the act! Aren’t you getting tired?” Caspian said exasperatedly.
No, of course not. What else can I do if I really quit bothering him? It’s impossible for me to go back to the brothel in the residential compound now that I’m pregnant.
“Caspian, please just take me in. I will wash your clothes and cook for you in return,” the young woman knelt before him all of a sudden.
Caspian was flustered by her sudden move, more so when the onlookers started gesticulating.
“Get up now, you’re making a scene.” Caspian frantically tried to help her up but to no avail.
The young lady just would not budge.
“Hey, what do you think is happening to Caspian? I thought he’s together with Jessica? Why is he getting involved with another woman?”
“Oh, you still have no idea. Jessica has broken up with him, and I heard it’s because of the young woman out there.”
A few employees were gossiping outside the office after seeing Lisa making a scene.
Larry put down the documents in his hands and walked out of his office. Sure enough, he was greeted by the woeful show that Lisa was trying to pull.
How dare she make a scene at my office!
Larry clenched his fist tight and made his way over. Pointing at the young woman who was still kneeling, he shouted, “What on earth are you guys doing?”
Lisa stopped sobbing right away.
“Caspian is dumping me!” The young woman shrieked.
Her remark incited bouts of hushed whisper among the crowd.
“You’re lying!” Caspian roared as he failed to subdue his anger.
“Take her away right now. Are you trying to cause a scene at my place?” Larry nudged at Caspian and said.
The woman is not leaving even if I told her to! Caspian looked helplessly at the man before him.
“Take her away!” Larry beckoned at security personnel who were standing behind him.
A few security guards dashed over and dragged Lisa over to the roadside. The crowd started to disperse just moments after.
“Look at the trouble you’ve caused!” Larry pointed at the young woman by the roadside and said to Caspian.
“You’re the pot calling a kettle black; as if you’ve got nothing on your plate,” Caspian muttered as he kept his head low.
“What did you say?”
“Nothing. I was just thanking you for your help today.” Caspian smiled and tried to gloss over his blunder.
However, Larry had actually heard it crystal clear. Huh, he’s starting to mock me now.
Caspian knew that Larry actually caught onto his words as well, but thought that it was fine for them to joke around.
As Caspian and Larry turned around to head back to Larry’s office, Lisa gritted her teeth as she watched the two silhouettes leaving her sight as she sat by the roadside. Damn it, Caspian has the audacity to try and chase me away!
How dare Larry treat me that way too? I need to do something, or else they won’t take me seriously!
“Don’t go looking for Jessica lately. And by the way, you know you shouldn’t take that Lisa lightly. She’s really something else.” Larry warned Caspian in a low voice after they were back in his office.
Caspian knew where he was coming from. In fact, he had not contacted Jessica for a number of days, fearing that she might get hurt because of him.
“Mr. Norton!”
Jessica’s assistant rushed into his office anxiously. At the sight of Caspian, she tried to calm herself down and managed a composed look.
“Say it!” Caspian growled at her.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3067
Let Her Off The Hook
Her assistant kept her head low as she reported, “Ms. Zimmer is in the hospital.”
Caspian dashed out of his office without a hint of hesitation.
“Caspian, Ms. Zimmer does not wish for you to visit her at the hospital!” The assistant shouted.
It managed to stop the man in his tracks as he put on a helpless look.
What should I do? He wanted to see the woman badly to see how she was doing. However, she was reluctant to even see him.
Larry was at a loss as he looked at Caspian.
“Don’t worry, I’ll go take a look,” He patted lightly on Caspian’s shoulders as an attempt to reassure him before leaving.
In the hospital, Jessica was laying on the bed with her eyes closed. She seemed tired.
“What happened?” Larry looked at the assistant perched by the entrance of her ward and asked.
“Lisa gave Ms. Zimmer a slap across the face. She fell to the floor and fainted,” the assistant replied.
Lisa came looking for Jessica, again? That doesn’t sound right. Caspian hasn’t been seeing Jessica lately.
It seems like this young lady is not going to let Jessica off the hook that easily.
“Get more people to guard her ward. Do not let any unauthorized personnel enter,” Larry ordered. He was trying to protect Jessica from getting hurt further.
“Larry, you’re here,” Jessica greeted him as she noticed him standing by the door.
“Yeah. How are you feeling? Are you feeling any better?”
“Don’t worry, I’m alright. I just fell down, it’s nothing serious. Don’t I look alright to you?” Jessica gave him a smile.
How can she still manage a smile at times like these? She just doesn’t want others to worry about her. What is she going to do when she really needs help someday? Who’s going to come to her rescue then?
“Then why did you fall down?” It was a rhetorical question. Larry was just trying to sound her out.
Jessica was stumped for a moment before she regained her composure. She turned her face to one side and looked out the window. “Larry, what are you saying? I just fell, nothing more.”
“Don’t try to hide it from me. I know for a fact that Lisa went looking for you again. What did she say this time?” Larry straightened out his clothes and asked softly.
What else can she say? It’s about Caspian, of course.
She shouldn’t come looking for me when I’ve already decided to leave Caspian for good. Why is she going over the line by lashing out at me like that?
Jessica was baffled by her actions.
“You have to be warier of her in the future. She’s not the type to let you off the hook easily. Don’t just tolerate her undue behavior. Otherwise, she’s only going to get worse,” Larry reminded her.
Yes, some people would not just back down even if the other party had decided to become the bigger person and let them off the hook. Instead, they would go out of their way to take advantage of others beyond the mark.
“Yes, that’s her! She tried to kill me!”
All of a sudden, Lisa dashed into Jessica’s ward with a number of cops behind her.
What is going on? Startled, Jessica widened her eyes in disbelief at the people who just dashed into her ward. However, Larry had expected it all.
“She’s the one trying to harm me and my child!” The young lady pointed at Jessica who was still on the hospital bed and berated her.
The cops then made their way to the side of Jessica’s bed with a stern face and said, “Ma’am, we would like to request your cooperation in an investigation.”
Why do I need to give cooperation for an investigation? When have I ever lay a finger on that young lady? Damn it. Is the b*tch trying to slander me?
Jessica glared at the woman before her with the thought in mind.
“Jessica, don’t worry and just give good cooperation for the investigation. We will go through the proper legal procedures if they should find out anything. However, if this proves to be an attempt to slander you, I will not let her off the hook easily,” Larry said in a frigid tone.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3068
Threatened
The young lady was stumped and retracted a few steps back unconsciously. How is this Larry showing up everywhere I go? She clenched her fist tight, and started to feel uneasy.
I’m not going to be able to do anything if Larry stands in my way!
Jessica knew that Larry already had something planned after she heard his remarks.
The cops left not long after, and when the young lady was about to leave, Larry dashed forward and stopped her in her tracks.
“Don’t try to blow things way out of proportions. You should really think things through for you and your baby. If you lose your baby, I wonder how are you going to bargain for more money from Caspian.”
There were clear undertones in Larry’s words, and it sent chills down Lisa’s spine.
“What are you saying? Jessica is the one trying to harm me and kill my baby. How is this my fault?” The young lady stubbornly stood her ground and retorted.
She’s really pushing her luck! Jessica had clearly said that she would not stand in between Caspian and Lisa, but the woman still had the audacity to accuse her. She will sh*t all over my head if I don’t teach her a lesson!
“You’d better get it in your head that I see Jessica as my sister! If anything should happen to her, I will not get out of your hair!” Larry glowered at the woman before him. Then, he turned around and took a seat at the sofa aside, exuding a domineering vibe as he went.
Lisa gulped and left the ward shaken by his aura.
Meanwhile, Jessica was feeling indignant for her luck. She was the victim, and yet she was about to be interrogated by the cops.
The offender was still out and about while the victim had to suffer the consequences in the hospital. Her eyes brimmed with tears and rolled down her cheeks.
Larry knew Jessica had plenty of pent-up emotions and thought it was best to just let her vent her feelings. Hence, the man did not try to comfort her. He was well aware that even though Jessica always seemed positive and bubbly, the woman was melancholic by nature.
“You’d better concentrate on healing your body here. I will help you settle the rest.” Larry walked over and tapped her on the shoulder to reassure her.
Other than Larry, who else can I really trust in this world? Caspian had become another woman’s man, and she only had Larry left— someone who was like a brother to her.
“What did you say? Did Jessica get hurt? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Joan sounded urgent on the line.
“Joan, didn’t you ask us not to disturb you?” Nancy stuttered, stumped by her demeanor.
How can I stay calm when something’s happened to Jessica?
“Joan, don’t worry. Jessica is alright now. She’s still under observation at the hospital though,” Nancy deliberately said.
Joan was like a cat on hot bricks after hearing the news. No, I have to go back to Chanaea right now!
She figured that it must have something to do with the young lady, Lisa. Otherwise, given Jessica’s personality, who would think of even harming her?
“You have to let me know right away if anything happens to Jessica!” Then, Joan hung up the call, picked up her coat, and headed outside.
It’s really one thing after another with this girl. How can she still be cool as a cucumber when someone’s clearly trying to frame her? I wouldn’t have known about it if Nancy had not told me about it today.
Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3069
A Vicious Woman
How is that Caspian still not able to settle the matter between him and Lisa? It’s already been dragging on for so long. His fickleness has caused Jessica to suffer!
The next day, Joan showed up at the hospital where Jessica was at.
She felt her heart ached at the sight of the woman on the hospital bed. Joan tucked Jessica in and looked anxiously at her friend.
Jessica would be living in hell if the matter between Caspian and Lisa were not resolved.
While men fought with spears and shields, women fought with schemes and mind tricks.
Jessica touched her forehead and let out a sigh.
“Why? Are you having a headache?” Joan asked anxiously.
Hmm? Isn’t that Joan’s voice? Jessica opened her eyes immediately and widened her eyes at the woman before her. Am I dreaming?
She clutched on tightly to Joan’s arms as she looked apprehensive.
“What’s the matter with you? Why do you behave like this when you see me?” Joan was bemused when she noticed Jessica’s odd reaction toward her presence.
It’s her! It’s really her!
“Joan, you’re finally back!” Overjoyed, Jessica hugged her tightly. Joan had appeared right when she felt overwhelmed and anxious.
Joan tapped her softly on the back and comforted her. A cold glint flashed across her eyes before she said, “Come, tell me what happened. I will make things right.”
We’re living in a civilized society governed by the law. Does that young lady really think that she can get away with attempts of murder?
“Joan, I’m really hurt… Everything hurts so badly…” The woman on the bed could no longer restrain herself and broke into a wail.
It had been some time since it happened. She should be letting it all out now.
“It’s Lisa. She’s slandering me by saying that I attempted to murder her and the child in her belly. But I’d never even think about it. You know that.”
Joan knew that Jessica would not stoop to such despicable acts. Then, Jessica gradually recounted and explained everything to her.
What a vicious woman! Joan clenched her fist tight as her gaze turned frigid.
“Don’t worry too much. You still have Larry. He will do it right by you,” Joan reassured her as she brushed her fingers through Jessica’s hair gently.
At that point, Jessica could only count on Larry.
Meanwhile, Caspian’s door was kicked down with a loud thud.
“You know what? You’re a really terrible man! What are you even thinking? Jessica’s being bullied by that b*tch and you’re just sitting around doing nothing?” Nancy dashed into the living room and berated.
“Nancy, what’s the matter with you?” Caspian greeted her and asked.
Is he seriously asking me what’s wrong? It was all thanks to him! Why did he have to go to the brothel? How is he going to deal with the trouble now?
“I didn’t know that something like that would happen too,” Caspian explained.
He was actually waiting for Lisa to explain herself. However, Nancy’s sudden appearance startled him.
“What are you even thinking? Are you just going to stand around and watch Jessica being trampled all over? Caspian, I know you still have feelings for her. Why are you letting that young lady go over the line like that?” Nancy said exasperatedly.
She knew Jessica well and swore on her conscience that the latter would not resort to such vile acts. That b*tch is just making things up!
Caspian sighed as he looked at her being all anxious. He took a seat as he attempted to calm himself down.
To be frank, he was at a loss of his next course of action too. It was obvious that Lisa was trying to get him to marry her, and she was resorting to every trick up her sleeves, including making Jessica’s life difficult.
She’s indeed a wicked woman.
Caspian clutched tightly at the corners of his shirt as his lips pursed into a thin, hard line.

The Culprit
“Well, well. Look who’s here?” Lisa made her way to her door and mocked aloud.
Nancy got up right away after hearing the woman’s voice.
“Oh, Ms. Barrymore. Take a seat, no need to greet me,” Lisa said.
Greet her? Does she seriously think she’s worthy of my respect? Nancy straightened out her clothes and squared her shoulders as she stood tall in front of the young lady.
Smack! A slap landed on the young lady’s face, turning it crimson.
“Are you nuts?” Lisa cradled her cheeks and retorted aloud.
“I’m going to make myself loud and clear. Get the hell away from Jessica! If you even so much as lay a finger on her again, I will make sure that you disappear from this city forever. Don’t believe me? Why don’t you try your damn luck?” Nancy turned on her heels to leave right after.
Lisa did not dare to tempt her fate, given the influence of the Barrymores in the city.
Lisa was frustrated at the lack of response from Caspian. Damn it, Caspian is still giving me nothing! The young lady demanded, “Caspian, what the hell are you doing? I’ve been hit by someone!”
So? Do you expect me to demand an apology from Nancy? Caspian shrugged her off and left.
Great, they’re all cornering me. Lisa gritted her teeth as she watched the silhouettes leaving her.
Lisa made her way to the yard as she whispered on the phone, “How is it? Has she left?”
“No, she’s been guarding the ward. There’s no chance for us to strike a move,” a woman replied softly on the other end.
Damn, I did not expect that Joan will care so much about Jessica!
“Alright, we’ll see how things go.” Lisa hung up the phone right after.
“What’s the matter?” All of a sudden, Caspian appeared right in front of her.
“You… Why are you here? Didn’t you already go back to your room?” Lisa retracted a few steps, and her voice turned shaky when she noticed him.
Well, I wouldn’t be able to overhear all these conversations if I hadn’t pretended to head back to the room. Caspian snorted at her reaction as he dashed forward to grab her arms.
“Spit everything out! What are you planning to do? You’d better tell me everything, or else I’m going to dump you in the wilderness!”
The young lady felt threatened, and she was well aware of how she would end up if she was indeed left to fend for herself out in the wilderness.
“Caspian, I didn’t plan on doing anything to her. I was just calling my sister,” she said in an attempt to cover up her tracks.
Is she for real? Does she really think I’ve not heard her cold tone while on the phone just now? Great, I’ll just teach her a lesson.
“Get up, follow me!” Caspian dragged her out of the house right then.
“Caspian, what the hell do you think you’re doing? You can’t leave me all alone. I love you, and we have a baby together,” the young lady caressed her belly and said hastily.
She loves me? Is that why she’s trying to harm Jessica? I couldn’t bear someone loving me this way.
Ring! Caspian’s phone rang all of a sudden. At the sight of the caller ID, Caspian shrugged off the young lady and called a number.
“Hurry! You have to come to the hospital right now!” Joan sounded exasperated on the phone.
Caspian was stumped. However, he soon regained his composure and dashed for his car.
The young lady who was slumped to the floor curled into a wicked smile when she noticed his car speeding away. If she had guessed correctly, something must have happened to Jessica.
“Doctor, please. You have to save her,” pleaded Joan as she sobbed.
“Don’t worry. We will try our best.” The doctor reassured her before skirting her out the door.
Soon, Caspian, Nancy, Jory, and Abelyn made reached the hospital.
“What happened to her?” Abelyn clutched tightly onto Dustin and asked.
“Where is she? The one who put her in this state?” Dustin turned to ask Joan right away.
