Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3071

Miscarriage

“She got away,” Joan replied sadly. When she got into the ward, the woman had already plunged a knife into Jessica’s belly before turning on her heels.

The doctor had only got out of Jessica’s ward after some time.

“Doctor, how is she doing?” Joan asked as she wiped away her tears.

The doctor took off his mask and shook his head with a grim look on his face. “I’m sorry to say that we did not manage to save the baby. The mother, however, is in a stable condition. Nevertheless, she will need some quiet time to recuperate.”

Baby? What baby? Was Jessica pregnant?

Flabbergasted at the revelation, Caspian wrapped his hands around his head. Why am I not even aware that she’s pregnant? Why didn’t Jessica tell me?

The truth was, even Jessica had no idea that she was pregnant. The poor woman had to endure the loss of her child without even knowing that she had the baby in the first place.

“Why are you guys all here? I’m alright. I just suffered a minor injury.” Jessica managed a weak smile while she lay on the hospital bed.

Why is she so stubborn? How long is she planning to keep this from us?

Should I tell her about the baby? She’s going to be in despair if she knows about it. Joan was on the fence about divulging the news to her friend, fearing that it might be too much of a shock to her.

“Joan, look at you. Why are you crying? I’m really alright!” Jessica quipped.

The group left after chatting with her, leaving Joan and Jessica in the ward alone.

“Joan, you should know why I didn’t let you leave,” Jessica said in a serious manner.

Why would Nancy be so sad if I’m only hurt like that? She should be relieved that I’m actually alive.

However, Jessica found the grim look on Nancy’s face alarming. Have I been diagnosed with some sort of terminal illness? Or do I not have much time left?

Ever since venturing into business, Jessica had improved by leaps and bounds in picking up on subtle expressions in other people.

“Didn’t you ask me to stay so that I can take good care of you?”

She’s still trying to hide something from me. Jessica was apprehensive as she clutched tightly onto her sheets.

“Joan, let’s cut to the chase. What did the doctor say just now? Don’t worry, I can take it. I know how my body is doing.”

She knows how her body is doing? Really? Then why is she still going around despite knowing that she’s pregnant? She’s not even taking good care of her own body.

Joan was overwhelmed with a sense of frustration at the thought and replied, “It’s nothing major. The doctor mentioned that you’re in a shock, and you need to take ample rest.”

Really? Did the doctor really say that? That can’t be true!

“If you’re not going to tell me, I’m going to ask the doctor myself!” Jessica prepared to get off the bed herself right then.

“Alright, alright! Don’t trouble yourself. I’ll tell you!” Joan went ahead to steady her and told her the truth.

Jessica did not manage to hold her emotions in. She clutched on her belly and broke into a violent sob.

“It’s all my fault!” She hit herself on the head and roared. However, it was all too late. No amount of regret or sorrow would be able to turn things back to the way it was.

“Where is that woman? I’m going to catch her! She has to pay blood for blood. I will not let her get away from this. I will make sure she stays behind the bar for what she’s done!” Jessica demanded as she pushed Joan forcefully to one side.

Joan knew that Jessica would not let the woman off the hook if she had known about it. However, the culprit was long gone.

Knowing the fact, Lisa had not attempted to escape.

On the other hand, she knew that everyone would start to point fingers at her, should she attempt an escape right then.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3072

Avenge

“Jessica, don’t worry. You need to calm down. Larry has already sent someone after her,” Joan hugged her friend gently as she reassured her.

Jessica felt a sense of remorse washing over as she looked at her belly. She did not expect that she was already pregnant.

“It’s all my fault!”

Patients who happened to pass by her ward all gave her sympathetic looks.

“I’m going to avenge my child! I will report this to the police!” Jessica said as she stood up.

“Don’t be rash! The police are already aware of it. Don’t worry and let Larry handle this. You’re already hurt. This is no time for you to worry about all these. You should take a good rest right now so that your body can recover,” Joan said as she tucked Jessica into bed.

My child is dead.

Why would anyone try to harm me? I’ve not antagonized anyone. Puzzled, Jessica looked out the window as she contemplated all the possibilities.

This woman still has not thought about that young lady. Joan cast a glance at her friend and looked helpless.

“Hey, leave those troubles for the future you, okay? You need to stay right here and rest,” Joan said as she passed over a cup of water to Jessica.

How can I stay right here when I’ve already lost my baby? Jessica let out a heavy sigh and massaged her temples.

No, I have to get to the bottom of this!

Then, the image of a person’s face popped into her mind, and it was no other than Lisa.

Could she have sent someone to do that to me?

Lisa has been immensely jealous of Caspian and me, and she has tried to make things difficult for me. But is she really behind this vicious act to separate me and Caspian for good?

“Joan, did you guys already find out something? Why didn’t you guys tell me?” Bemused at the current situation, Jessica asked Joan.

“Larry is investigating this. Don’t worry about it and let him catch the culprit.”

Meanwhile, Lisa was still on the phone in the living room.

“What did you say? She’s pregnant? So the baby’s gone? Is this for real?” Lisa asked.

“Yes, it’s true,” the woman on the other end replied. They did not know that Jessica was actually pregnant when they decided to harm her.

She’s pregnant… It has to be Caspian’s baby then! Surely, Caspian will be off to take care of her if she’s really pregnant. Luckily the baby’s gone. Otherwise, that child will be up against my child for the right to inherit Caspian’s assets.

Just when the woman was thanking her lucky stars, the door was kicked down with a loud thud.

“What’s the matter? Why are you so mad?” Lisa sprung up from the sofa and asked.

Is she really asking me that? It’s all thanks to you, of course! It’s bad enough that you’re always making things difficult for her, but now you’re really stepping over the line by causing her to suffer a miscarriage!

“Did you know that Jessica was pregnant? Now she’s lost everything, and it’s all because of you! You killed the baby!”

Caspian was drunk, but his brain was sober than ever. Only Lisa could have done such a vile act to someone as kind as Jessica.

“What do you mean? I’m just a woman who wants to live a peaceful and uneventful life,” the young lady put on an indignant face and said.

“Drop the act. You’re the one who sent someone to harm her, but now you’re acting like nothing happened. You have the audacity to even watch TV and enjoy fruits here!” Caspian pointed right at her nose and berated.

So what? She’s still alive. You guys are the ones forcing me to go to the extremes!

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3073

Karma

Lisa clutched at the corners of her shirt and was boiling with fury. She walked over to the sofa and sat down. So what if the woman’s hurt? Is he really that worried about her losing the baby? He didn’t look at all worried or sad when I was hurt!

“I’d advise you to surrender yourself. Jessica will not let you off easy,” Caspian said as he closed his eyes. He was drained from all the drama.

The man felt a surging urge to slap the young lady in front of him. However, he knew that the troublemaker would just come up with a myriad of excuses later to torture him.

“Caspian, don’t try to accuse me of something that I’ve not done. Why should I surrender myself if I’ve done nothing wrong? Besides, you should believe in me because we are a family. Are you seriously doubting me because of another woman? Caspian, the child in my belly is yours.”

Clang!

All of a sudden, Caspian took the glass on the coffee table and hurled it to the floor, smashing it into pieces. The young lady was taken aback and retracted a few steps unconsciously.

She’s still trying to shirk her responsibilities at this point! Caspian clenched his fist tight as he gritted his teeth. He would have beaten the crap out of her if she was a man.

“The baby in my belly is yours, whether you want to acknowledge it or not!” The young lady shrieked.

“Get the hell out! Out! Do not ever show up in front of me again. Otherwise, I’m not going to let you off easy!” Caspian pointed at the door and roared.

Is he chasing me out the door? Why do I have to listen to him? Jessica is the one who should be getting out of our lives. The young lady said nothing and turned on her heels to head upstairs instead.

Frustrated at her indifferent attitude, Caspian sat back down in the living room as he smacked his forehead repeatedly. The man was in agony a sense of remorse overpowered him.

What have I done in my past life to suffer such karmic retribution? I must have suffered a blow to my head for me to go to that brothel in the residential compound back then.

Ring!

“Caspian, please come to the hospital.” Joan’s voice was impassive. Caspian recollected himself and took his coat before he left the house.

At the same time, Jessica was laying on the bed while she stared out ahead at the lonesome crescent that hung on the night sky with a grim look on her face.

“What’s the matter? Did anything happen to Jessica?” Caspian opened the door and asked aloud.

“Could you keep it down? There’s other patients here too,” Joan walked over to his side and nudged him.

Jessica breathed in deeply as she opened her eyes and looked at the man who barged his way in. With a frigid tone, she asked, “Caspian, I’m going to ask you this question only once. If that baby in her belly is truly yours, what will you do if I report her to the police?”

Caspian was stumped by the question. How is that possible? The baby in her belly is most definitely not mine!

Trembling, he cast a glance at Joan who was standing aside.

“I don’t want to listen to all the talk of you denying that the baby is not yours. Please answer my question,” Jessica pressed on.

Joan turned around and looked out the window as she refused to get entangled in the matter which was clearly personal between the two.

“I don’t care if the baby’s mine. I will personally send her to the police station if she’s the one who hurt you!” Caspian replied adamantly.

Jessica had been an important woman to him. She’s already lost her parents and family. I can’t disappoint and leave her all alone.

Jessica turned her face to one side and closed her eyes as she felt warm lines streaming down her cheeks.

Larry had already expected the answer from Caspian. His lips curled into a relieved smile. At the very least, Jessica would find some solace in that answer.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3074

Dignity

After all, Caspian’s decision was not an easy one.

“Okay, then don’t blame me for going all out on her.,” Jessica wiped away the tears on her face and said determinedly.

I will get to the bottom of this, and I will see her get locked behind the bars.

“Don’t trouble yourself with that. You’ve got me and Larry handling it. You just need to take good care of yourself in the hospital,” Joan tapped on her shoulders and said softly.

“Well, well. Look who’s here,” Nancy showed up all of a sudden and said mockingly at the sight of Caspian.

She would be infuriated every time she thought about how Caspian was to be blamed for Jessica being in such a quandary.

“Nancy, where is my meatloaf?” Jessica said in an attempt to change the topic.

“Here it is.” It was a successful attempt as Nancy did not continue to snide at Caspian.

The group chatted for a bit before Larry led Caspian out of the ward.

Given Nancy’s personality, Larry knew that the woman was going to nag Caspian’s ears off if he continued to stay in the ward.

“What’s your plan? Are you going to continue tolerating her?” Nancy nibbled on the fruits and said softly.

Am I going to tolerate her? Why would I do that? Do I have to tolerate her behavior just because she’s younger than me? What a joke! Her actions were proof that she was going out of her way to hurt Jessica.

A determined glint flashed in Jessica’s eyes as she replied, “No, I will let her suffer the consequences of her actions in the jail.”

Their country was governed by law and order. They could get her prosecuted as long as they could find any incriminating evidence against Lisa.

Jessica lowered her head in apprehension. Where am I going to look for the witness if she’s already fled?

“Attaboy. Let me tell you, sometimes we really cannot back down from people like these. Otherwise, they’re going to think that we’re easy targets,” Nancy said as a matter-of-factly.

Jessica nodded in agreement. Her reluctance in blowing things out of proportion had opened the way for the young lady to keep pushing her luck and consequently making things worse.

“Mr. Norton, I found her,” the assistant looked at Larry and reported his findings.

“Where is she?” Larry stood to attention immediately.

“At a nursing home.”

What is she doing at a nursing home? Furrowing his brows, Larry stood up and looked out the window, and got lost in thoughts. It seemed like the nursing home had someone whom she cared about.

Larry’s lips curled into a slight smile. She has someone whom she cares about. That means that she is vulnerable. Soon, he reached the nursing home.

“Mr. Norton, it’s the woman in the room,” the assistant added.

There were two women in the ward. One was the one who harmed Jessica, and another one was an aged woman who looked quite abnormal.

A pang of realization hit Larry right then. They were mother and daughter.

Just when his assistant was about to dash into the ward to seize the woman, Larry reached out to stop him.

“Mr. Norton, what do you mean?” The assistant was befuddled. He’s the one adamant about catching her. Why is he hesitating now?

Larry was not on the fence about his decision. Instead, he just did not wish for the woman to be caught right in front of her mother. Despite the woman’s contemptible act, Larry felt the need to spare her dignity, and it was purely from his altruistic point of view.

The assistant waited for the woman to head out of the room before seizing her.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3075

Revelation

However, the assistant was confounded by her lack of resistance.

She had already seen Larry’s face from inside of the ward. The woman merely chose not to react to his presence. Nevertheless, she was thankful that Larry did not choose to disrupt her.

“Who instructed you?” Larry walked over to her side and demanded in a cold, hard tone.

“I’m not going to tell you that,” the woman answered bluntly.

She was afraid of divulging Lisa’s name to someone else, as the latter had threatened to harm her mother if anyone should know about the matter.

She closed her eyes and waited for Larry’s backlash. It was as if she knew that any attempt to salvage herself would be in vain.

The woman knew she was being foolish. Why am I being so loyal toward a woman who is not even related to me?

“Don’t worry. I will ensure your mother’s safety if you tell me who has instructed you to harm Jessica. On top of that, I will ensure that your mother receives the best treatment from the very best doctors.”

The woman was taken aback by his offer. She had not expected that things would take such a turn. It seems like he really cares about his godsister!

She snorted in derision.

“You guys had better give it up. I will not tell you guys that easily. Besides, you’d better release me soon. The police will not let you guys off easy if anything should happen to me!”

The woman shouted as she struggled to free herself.

Really? I will not let your wish come true though. Larry snickered with the thought in mind.

“Take her away! And take her mother along too!” Larry ordered.

What? Is he trying to take my mother away too? No, I can’t let him do that!

“Larry, let me go! Come at me if you have anything against me. You’d better not stoop so low that you’re resorting to harming my mother! She doesn’t have a clue about anything, and she is not at all involved in this matter!” The woman bawled in desperation.

So now she knows what she’s dealing with, right? Larry lifted his head and looked straight into her eyes with a stern look. Your mother is really important to you, right? That’s great.

“Keep an eye on her mother, and make sure that she stays in the nursing home,” Larry said.

The woman seemed to have panicked as she added, “I’ll say it! Don’t hurt my mother! She’s really old now, and she’s not going to be able to endure this kind of stress. Please don’t disturb her.”

Woman, what goes around comes back around. Larry stared at the woman before him in a deadpan manner. However, he was thankful that she was a filial daughter. They would have been at a loss should they be dealing with a heartless and fearless person.

“Someone has instructed me to hurt Jessica,” the woman confessed. However, what she did not know was that Larry was actually recording her every word.

The name of the culprit was finally revealed, and it was as Larry had expected. What a vile woman! Larry tapped himself forcefully on the head to clear his mind.

After egging on for the woman to confess about anything there was to know, Larry released the woman. He was a sensible man, and he knew that Lisa was ultimately the one to be blamed.

“Where are you right now? I’m going to look for you guys.” Larry sounded displeased on the phone.

Why is he in such a hurry? Puzzled, Caspian looked at the phone in his hand. “I’m at home.”

“Where’s that young lady? Is she by your side?” Larry pressed on.

“Of course not. I don’t know where is she off too either,” Caspian replied nonchalantly.

Did Lisa run away? Larry grew apprehensive. “Follow that b*tch. We need to investigate the truth.”

Follow her how? Bemused, Caspian was waiting for Larry to elaborate.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3076

Not My Child

“I don’t care how you’re going to do it. You have to find that young lady,” Larry’s tone was stern and Caspian grew alert.

Bang! It was the sound of the door being slammed shut.

It was Lisa. Larry heard the commotion from the other end and suddenly a notion popped into his head.

“Who were you on the phone with?” Lisa asked.

“Just an ex-colleague who worked at Norton Corporation previously,” Caspian stuttered in reply as he put his phone aside.

Really? Why do I have a hunch that something’s not quite right though? The young lady edged close to Caspian and caressed his forehead in an attempt to appease the man.

“Caspian, please take a rest if you’re already tired.” Then, she reached out to take the phone cast aside by Caspian.

“Give it to me!” Caspian snatched his phone back abruptly. “What are you doing? Why are you touching my phone?”

Why? Can’t a girlfriend use a boyfriend’s phone now? What’s up with him?

“Caspian, we’re already in a relationship. You should have more faith in me,” Lisa smiled as she tried to convince him.

“Let me go! What are you guys planning to do to me?” Lisa struggled to free herself as she roared.

What do we want? For you to apologize to Jessica, of course!

Unfazed by her attempts to free herself, Caspian clutched on tightly to her shoulders, fearing that she would run away. How dare she try to murder Jessica!

“Caspian, I’m pregnant with your child. You’d better be more gentle with me!” Lisa demanded.

My child? What a joke! She had been claiming that she was pregnant with his child ever since the beginning. Even if she was, did she really think that she could get away after everything that she had done to me?

Slap! Caspian exerted a little force and the young lady slumped to the floor.

Meanwhile, in the ward, Jessica looked at the woman sprawled on the floor with an impassive face as she burned with loathing fury. She’s the one who killed my baby.

“You… you killed my baby!” Jessica pointed right at Lisa’s nose and wailed.

“Jessica, you have to calm down. She’s right here, and she’s not going anywhere.” Joan stood by her side and patted her lightly on the back to coax Jessica.

Joan had witnessed the roller-coaster of emotions that Jessica had been through ever since the latter had known about the tragic news. Hence, Joan vowed not to let Lisa off the hook easily for her horrendous act.

“The baby is gone. You owe Jessica an explanation and an apology,” Joan approached the young lady and said as a matter-of-factly.

Explanation? Apology? What is there to explain? Why should I apologize? Lisa burst into a cackle at Joan’s remarks. I did it all purposefully! I wish for her death!

So what if I did? They don’t have any incriminating evidence against me!

“Why? Are you guys thinking of framing me? Keep on dreaming, you guys! Caspian, you’re a heartless man. I let you pop my cherry, and now I am pregnant with your child, and yet this is how you treat me? What are you thinking to do to me?

“You said that you would be responsible and that you were going to give the child a family. But now you’re going against your very own words,” Lisa wiped away her tears as she squealed at Caspian.

It was true. Caspian did promise to take care of her, but it was on the premise that the woman was indeed pregnant with his child. However, it was clear as day that the child was not his, and yet the woman had the audacity of claiming otherwise.

She just wanted to find a rich man so that she could be the trophy wife. If she had not known about the one million, would she still be adamant about being together with me?

What a joke!

“First, the child in your belly is not mine. Second, I did not have sex with you. You’d better stop slandering me. Besides, I do not have any money on me right now as I’ve invested it all. So, there’s no way that you’re going to be able to scrap another cent off me. I advise that you’d better hurry up and go look for the child’s biological father,” Caspian said with a low voice.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3077

Defensive

His expression was colder than ice and he stood with an impressively intimidating aura. The young woman on the floor was completely defeated. In the end, she couldn’t compete against Jessica.

She clenched her fists tightly with her dissatisfaction written all over her face. I’m not going to apologize to Jessica! I’d die before ever saying sorry to that woman.

“Apologize!” Nancy called out loudly.

“No! I didn’t do anything wrong. Why should I apologize? It was all defending myself against all of you.” The young woman was starting to look a little frenzied.

Joan stared at her curiously. She had seen this young lady plenty of times before, but she had really changed since the last time Joan saw her. Could she be sick? Joan wondered.

The young lady’s gaze darkened slowly and Joan suddenly said, “Is there something you want to say but can’t tell us?”

The atmosphere suddenly became stale.

What’s up with Joan? Why is she speaking up for this girl? Nancy thought to herself. She looked at Joan curiously.

Larry and Dustin stared at her with deep frowns. No one wanted to take this young woman’s side at a time like this.

The woman on the hospital bed was taken aback as well, but she felt no anger toward Joan’s words. She knew Joan wasn’t the type to speak or act before thinking.

“Did you notice something?” Jessica asked Joan in a low voice.

“Take it easy. I’ll ask some more questions first,” Joan whispered back as she patted Jessica’s shoulder.

The young lady continued sobbing with her head down, looking as if she was incredibly troubled.

“Caspian, I’m sick. All I want is to give birth to my first child before I completely lose the ability to take care of him. I just wanted to be able to give my kid a good father that can raise him properly,” she said in a low voice.

At that moment, everyone froze. So she was sick, but with what?

Joan helped her stand up and walk toward the sofa. “Calm down. Can you tell us what you’re sick with?”

“The doctor said I have a psychological disorder that will take a long time to properly treat. More importantly, this disorder is very likely to worsen over time. That’s why I’m worried for my baby,” the young lady replied emotionally as she clutched Joan’s small hands.

That made things clear for everyone in the room. Caspian was staring at the girl who was explaining herself, completely torn over what to say.

“That doesn’t mean you should have hurt Jessica. Think about it: hurting Jessica means hurting yourself. If anything serious actually happened to her, you would have become a real criminal. What would happen to your kid then? Have you ever thought about that? Do you want your child growing up with the knowledge that his mother was a murderer?” Joan said.

The young woman had thought about that a long time ago.

She had already decided on disappearing the moment she handed the kid over to Caspian, and that she would never let her kid know that their mother had psychological issues.

Jessica slowly started to look more and more sorrowful as time went on.

She hated the young woman for killing her baby and that she stole away the man she loved.

However, she couldn’t help but feel sorry for the young lady who was willing to leave everything behind for her child’s sake. In the end, that was the true meaning behind being a mother: giving everything up for your kid.

Now that the cat was out of the bag, the young lady was sent to the psychiatric ward.

“Larry. Joan. I want to ask you about something,” Caspian said in a low voice.

It has to be about that kid. Joan looked up and at Caspian seriously.

“I want to bring that kid to live with me,” Caspian continued.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3078

Decision

After all, it was a matter of fate as well. That young woman may have been way over the line, but the child was completely innocent. She had been right. If she were to leave the child behind, no one would be bothered to look after them.

Caspian had always been a kind person. Despite looking quite cruel on the surface, he had always been an extremely gentle guy.

It showed when he first began dating Jessica and couldn’t bear to see her getting hurt in any way.

“You’re sure of it?” Larry looked at his good friend as he sipped some tea.

“What about Jessica?” Joan hurriedly asked.

Caspian had already gotten over it. If Jessica was willing to forgive him, he would make sure to treasure her and never leave her side. However, if she couldn’t forgive him, then he would spend the rest of his life taking care of the kid. He wasn’t going to hold a grudge against anyone.

“I’ll leave it up to fate,” Caspian replied mildly.

Joan smirked at the sight of Caspian saying something so poetic.

Joan also knew that Jessica was still caught up in her anger for now, which was why she didn’t want to meet Caspian yet. Once she got over her anger, she wouldn’t hold it against Caspian anymore.

Neither of them could let go of such a long, meaningful relationship. Joan got up and patted him on the shoulder with a meaningful smile before leaving.

What’s that all about? Did that smile mean something? Caspian wondered as he watched her leave.

This guy probably hasn’t managed to understand Jessica yet, huh? Larry walked toward his desk and started busying himself with work.

What’s going on? Why aren’t either of them giving me ideas? Caspian looked at the man at the desk urgently.

“If that’s all, then you can leave for now,” Larry said without even looking up.

Oh no. That’s it. Larry is really going to get rid of me. Well, Jessica is close to him after all. How could I expect him to forgive me after hurting someone he cares about? He definitely won’t talk to me anytime soon.

Caspian sighed and turned to leave.

“I think you should renovate that house of yours. If not, Jessica might not be able to tell how much you actually love her,” Larry purposely said.

Caspian instantly cheered up. Does he mean that Jessica has already forgiven me? He ran over and clutched onto Larry’s arm as he pestered him.

“What was that? Has she forgiven me? What did she say? When is she getting discharged? I’ll go pick her up.”

This guy… did he actually forget where we are in his excitement?

“We’re still in the company, so watch yourself,” Larry instantly reminded him.

Caspian removed his hands from Larry’s arm and continued to look over the moon. After he confirmed that Jessica had actually forgiven him, he ran outside in joy.

Larry shook his head with a smile. Hopefully, this time, they can properly treasure each other, he thought to himself as he picked up the files on the table and started going through them.

The young lady continued receiving treatment in the psychiatric ward. Once she heard that Caspian and Jessica were willing to take care of her kid, she was in tears with joy.

If she wasn’t so pitiful, Jessica would never have forgiven her.

After all, Lisa had been sold to a brothel at a young age and had been treated no better than a slave by the women there.

She was only treated as a human being after she fully grew up and could be dressed up to sell off to their clients.

Never Late, Never Away Chapter 3079

Total Forgiveness

She had gone through an extremely hard time too.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Caspian clutched Jessica’s small hands in his. He had never imagined that the woman in front of him would be kind enough to take care of someone else’s child.

What else is there to do? Am I supposed to watch that child become an orphan? Jessica sighed. She knew what orphans had to go through and couldn’t bear actively allowing a child to become one if she could help it.

Her parents were dead, making her an orphan. The luckiest thing that happened among it all was that she was already grown up when it happened, and of course, meeting Larry was practically a blessing.

“Yes, I’m sure. We’re going to take proper care of this child and make sure they grow up well,” Jessica answered determinedly.

Caspian was full of gratitude.

Joan was touched by the scene in front of her.

“Are you feeling better?” Joan asked as she entered a different ward.

“Yes. My baby’s been good the last few days, so I haven’t been getting kicked.” Lisa said happily as she gently caressed her belly.

The hospital that Jessica was in also had a specialized block where their psychiatric ward was located, so Lisa and her were actually in the same hospital. However, the two of them rarely met.

“Joan, has Jessica really forgiven me? Did she really agree to take care of my baby?” the young lady asked carefully.

Silly girl. Why would anyone lie about that? Besides, Jessica is still a very kind lady. She wouldn’t hold a grudge over something like this.

“Relax. Don’t worry about anything else for now and just focus on taking care of yourself, okay? Caspian and Jessica made it clear that you’re still going to be your kid’s biological mother. They’re just the godparents,” Joan answered gently.

Lisa suddenly burst into tears. Who else will care for me as much as these people?

“I’m so sorry. I’ve truly been a burden.”

Joan felt sympathy for the young lady in tears in front of her. That was possibly one of the saddest things about being a woman: still wanting to give birth to the child in her belly despite not knowing who the father was, simply because she was a mother.

She knew how Lisa was feeling and could truly relate to her.

“Thank you guys, really. If it wasn’t for all of you, I don’t think I would be here today.”

A few months later, Lisa gave birth to her child, and Jessica and Caspian brought it home.

“What a cute baby. Look! What an adorable little face,” Joan said gently as she played around with the kid.

Larry smiled teasingly at the sight of her.

“Should we have one too?” He pulled her into his embrace and whispered in her ear.

Joan’s face reddened immediately.

“Get off me. What are you going on about?” she said as she pushed him away, embarrassed.

Is she actually getting embarrassed? Larry hadn’t seen Joan’s embarrassed face for a long time. He kissed Joan on the cheek quickly before turning to leave.

Caspian and Jessica smiled after seeing that. Soon enough, everything went back to normal and life kept going on more smoothly than before.

Joan’s memories hadn’t fully recovered, but her relationship with Lucius and Delilah had become much closer.

“Rest for a while, Joan. Don’t wear yourself out too much.”

Delilah watched Joan worriedly, the latter still working in the garden.

“Don’t worry about me, Ms. Young. I’ll be fine,” Joan said as she trimmed the bushes.

Delilah had already closed down the flower shop that the two of them had owned together before Joan lost her memory.

Take It Easy

Delilah had already become a much calmer person. She no longer had any big dreams of owning a business. Instead, she just wanted to plant in her own garden at home and enjoy the later years of her life with ease.

“Ms. Young, don’t you think I was quite the fool back then?” Joan suddenly asked Delilah.

She was taken aback. What is Joan saying? She wasn’t being a fool, she was simply too kind.

“The day Larry proposed to me, Jake showed me those pictures. I was furious, but I went back to that *sshole’s side like nothing happened,” Joan said faux-angrily.

That’s all because of love, silly girl.

Delilah chuckled and gently tapped Joan on the head.

“You and Larry are a match made in heaven. Do you know how many people were envious of you two, or admired your relationship? Even now, although you’ve lost your memories, Larry still hasn’t given up on you.” Delilah’s tone was as casual as if she were talking about the weather, but her words ran deep.

True. Larry hasn’t given up on me, not then and not even now. Joan looked up and smiled at the sky.

She knew she would be well off with such a caring and reliable husband.

“Joan!” All of a sudden, a bunch of people barged in.

Joan was shocked. Who are they? What are they doing here? Joan looked at the people who suddenly barged in suspiciously, feeling anxious.

Delilah immediately ran toward Joan and pulled her behind her back.

“What are you all doing here?” Delilah asked, immediately on high alert.

She knew who these people were. They were all workers from the nearest supermarket. Back when Joan had been working at the supermarket, they treated her horribly. All they did was boss her around all day and if it wasn’t for Dustin intervening to chase them away, they might have done something even worse to Joan.

There was no good reason for them to suddenly come here.

“Ms. Young, we’re all neighbors after all, so why are you being so standoffish? We just heard that Joan was back and wanted to see her since we haven’t seen her for a long time,” one of the younger women said with a hint of disdain on her face.

Huh? So we used to know each other? Joan looked at the women in front of her as she tried to think back, but she couldn’t recall any of them.

“We’re busy. We have no time to waste chatting with you, so please leave. Maybe you can come back another day,” Delilah said straightforwardly.

She had been around for long enough that she could tell exactly what these people were up to.

“Come on, Joan. Since we haven’t met up in so long, we should go out and have a proper meal together. We can talk about our old times too.”

Talk about old times? What nonsense! They have nothing to talk about! Are they going to tell her about how they bullied her and treated her like an outcast? Delilah thought as she looked at them with disgust.

“Joan has nothing to talk about with all of you. Leave. It’s against the law for all of you to barge in on private property,” Delilah said.

Old b*tch. Why’s she acting all high and mighty at this ripe old age? The women in front of them thought with clenched fists.

All they wanted was for Joan to talk to Dustin and ask him to let them work at the supermarket again. If they couldn’t go back, they would really be in trouble.

“Don’t be mad, Ms. Young. I admit that we’ve done some bad things to you before, Joan, but you won’t hold a grudge against people like us, right? Besides, it’s been so long since then. You’ve definitely forgotten about it, right?” that woman said on purpose.
