Ch. 1481..1490
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1481 -"All right, old man, stop nagging! I have to get going and rush home."
Thinking that Thompson would be waiting for her, she wanted to hurry back and seek answers to her questions. She felt that what Thompson wanted to talk about could be related to Austin and perhaps even the laboratory's secret.
Thinking so, she quickened her pace.
"No, the key, the car key!"
Swinging something in his hand, Dominic chased after her.
"Your car is in such a terrible state. How are you going to drive it? Take one of the cars here."
Taking the key, Lily was moved.
"Old man..."
"Okay, I know! Just go stubborn girl, as long as you know what you're doing.Remember that no matter how tough you are, you’re still a girl and pregnant, and your husband and son can’t live without you.Just don’t expect me to raise your child, okay?"
He tried to act tough but failed to hide his concern for her.
"Relax.I'll make sure I won’t lose a single strand of hair, okay?"
Lily joked light -heartedly, not wanting to sound like they would not see each other again.
"You enjoy making fun of me, huh?"
Pulling a long face, Dominic scolded her.
"Go!"
Waving her off, he let out a look of distaste, but his gaze was filled with concern.
She drove Dominic’s car home, and nothing cropped up along the way.
As she went by the place where she slammed into the car, she slowed down to take a better look and saw that all traces of debris and skid marks were gone, as if a professional team had come to remove them.
‘This is highly unusual! It could never be the work of the Public Works Department or the police or a kind-hearted passerby.
The only possibility is that the attackers did this to cover their tracks.
Who the hell are these people?’ Reaching home, Lily discovered that Thompson had not arrived yet and thought she had driven faster than him.
She got the servants to prepare tea and desserts and waited for his visit.
However, she waited in vain for quite a while.
Getting anxious, she called him, but no one answered.
Having a bad feeling, she immediately instructed someone over the phone to find out about Thompson’s whereabouts.
‘Driving at a normal speed, the professor should be able to go from the laboratory to the bean house and back again by now"
The person called in less than five minutes.
"Ma'am, something happened to Professor Thompson."
Tightening her hold of the phone, Lily felt worried, although she had mentally prepared herself.
"What happened?"
"He had a traffic accident on the way here...He’s been sent to the hospital, and I heard he’s suffered serious injuries."
"Traffic accident? How did it happen?"
"His car seemed to have collided with a huge truck and it was a terrible sight at the scene. You'll be able to see it on the news soon," he said.
"Okay, I got it."
After a pause, Lily hurriedly said, "Wait. Do you know which hospital he’s been sent to?"
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1482 -Lily rushed over to the hospital, but it was too late.
By the time she arrived, Thompson had already been declared dead, despite the emergency treatment.
Taking a glimpse of him, she saw his face was bloody and somewhat damaged, but she could still recognize him.
Eyes closed, the man could no longer hear her nor fight with her over the laptop and lab data.
"Professor Thompson..." Her voice quivered, and so did her outstretched fingers.
"are you his family?" The doctor asked as he slowly covered the professor’s face with a white cloth.
Lily shook her head, then suddenly thought of something.
"Hasn't his family arrived yet?"
"There was no phone on him, so we cannot contact anyone.Do you know his family? Can you help us contact them?" The doctor was busy treating patients.
As Thompson only had his driving license with him and there was no way to reach his family, he was glad to see someone who knew the deceased.
"I don’t know his family."
Shaking her head, Lily had never seen any of the professor’s kin.She joined the laboratory for the sake of the experiment and had never asked about Thompson’s family or pried into his personal affairs. She truly did not know whom to contact.
Walking out of the emergency room, Lily was still unsettled.
‘Professor Thompson was talking to me over the phone, and now he’s dead. Our lives are so fragile.Accidents can happen at any time. However, is this truly an accident?’
"Do you know Larry Thompson?"
Holding a notebook and pen, a traffic police officer came over and asked her.
Lily lifted her eyelids and answered dully, "Yes."
"What's your relationship with him?" the officer asked again.
"We're colleagues, I guess."
Having worked together at the laboratory, she thought they were co-workers after all.
"Colleagues? Are you able to contact his family? Or anyone who can take care of his body?"
Lily shook her head dully and then thought of something out of the blue.
"Can’t you find his family contacts on his phone?" The officer frowned.
"We can’t find the phone. It’s not on him."
"what about the car? Could it have dropped somewhere inside?"
"No, we tried to search for it but found nothing." The officer shook his head.
"He probably didn’t bring it with him."
"No, he did! He talked to me on the phone before this.He must have brought his phone."
Lily thought that it did not make sense.
The doctor also said there was no phone on Thompson, but she didn't think much of it.
Now that the police officer had mentioned it, she suddenly realized something fishy was happening.
‘He just talked to me on the phone and said he was on his way.How could the police fail to find his phone? If it's gone, there’s only one possibility —someone took it! Why would anyone want to take his phone? Who took it? There’s no way that this is just an accident!’ Turning her bean head to the officer, she eagerly asked, "May I know if the truck driver has been arrested? Could he have taken Professor Thompson’s phone?"
"No, we’ve kept the driver in custody and didn’t find the deceased’s phone on him.The accident took place at a junction. The deceased drove fast, and the truck driver didn’t pay attention as he turned. Both were somehow responsible," the officer said.
Lily nodded.
"I got it, thanks."
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1483-She forgot how she left the hospital and only knew she felt dizzy as she looked up at the sun.
‘The lab, the pandemic, Austin, Professor Thompson...all are inextricably linked!’ She began to wonder if she could handle it.
‘Who the hell is the mastermind behind all this? Who wanted to have me killed? Who wanted Professor Thompson dead? What happened to Austin?’ Thinking it over, she concluded that the laboratory must have something to do with everything.
Taking a deep breath, she got into the car and instructed the driver, "Take me to the research institute."
The car reached the place shortly.
Staring at the familiar yet strange building, she stood before the gate but did not go in.She had no idea what lay in the unknown or whether she would face any danger if she were to go in.
However, it was the only place where the mystery could be solved.
Narrowing her eyes, she tried to go in, but the passcode she entered was wrong. She ensured she did not remember wrongly and keyed in again, but the access control system showed the passcode was wrong again.
At this moment, the gate opened, and someone stuck his head out.
"What are you doing?"
It was an unfamiliar face.
Lily said frankly, "I work at the lab, and I'm trying to go in."
"You work at the lab? How come I’ve never seen you?"
The man eyed her up and down.
"The passcode is wrong. You can’t go in."
"I..."
Lily wanted to say something, but the gate was shut.
‘They changed the passcode and even the guard.
Has so much happened? I've not even been here that long"
Lily grew more convinced that something was wrong with the laboratory.
She took two steps back and looked up at the building not far away.
‘Not long ago, I was busy working there, and as one of the key personnel, people here greeted me whenever I came and went. Now I couldn't even go through the gate. How ironic"
There was a sound of a vehicle approaching.
Lily turned and saw a car pulling over near her.
At the same time, the gate was opened.
Narrowing her eyes, Lily saw a woman in the car.
Long hair curled at her shoulders, the person looked competent and dashing, sporting a pair of oversized sunglasses and red lips.
"Please step aside," she glanced at Lily and spoke.
Lily did not feel that she was blocking the woman’s way.
The entrance was wide, and she could easily drive past her.
Anyway, Lily could sense she was full of herself.
"Do you work at the lab?" Lily asked.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" The woman raised her brow.
Despite the sunglasses, Lily could tell she was impatient.
"Something happened to Professor Thompson.I’m here to inform the lab." Lily said while observing her.
Fixing her gaze on her face, Lily saw she was taken aback and took two seconds before asking, "What happened? Who are you, anyway?"
"I’m Lily Russell."
Lily added, "Professor Thompson had an accident and has...passed away. The police could bean not contact his family, so I’m wondering if anyone at the lab could help handle his body."
The woman slowly took off the sunglasses and, gazing at Lily with a pair of narrow, beautiful eyes, drawled, "So you’re Lily Russell!"
Lily was surprised.
The woman leaned over to open the door on the other side.
"Get in the car. We'll talk inside."
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1484-However, Lily only looked at her.
The woman curled her lips.
"I’m Rhea Moore. You might not have seen me before, but I’ve heard about you."
After a pause, she added, "I’ve been looking forward to meeting you for a long time."
Lily considered for a moment, then got into the passenger seat beside her.
The bodyguards outside were worried.
"Ma’am..."
They would not be able to go inside the laboratory.
"It’s okay. You guys wait here, and I’ll be out soon," she said solemnly, holding up her hand.
Glancing at Lily's bodyguards, Rhea chuckled.
"I heard you married a rich man, huh? No wonder you’re accompanied by bodyguards, unlike ordinary people like us."
"Those who have access to the laboratory are no ordinary people, including you, Ms.Moore," Lily said meaningfully.
Rhea curled her nicely outlined lips into a smile, then drove through the gate. She parked the car but did not get out right away. She removed her seat belt, turned to take two bottles of water from the back seat, and handed one to Lily.
Lily took the bottle but did not uncap it.
Rhea simply opened a bottle and took a few swigs without asking her about it.
"How did you find out that Professor Thompson had an accident?" She suddenly turned her head and asked.
"The lab had just received the news."‘So the police informed the lab"
Not being able to reach the professor's family, Lily had expected the police to contact the university and the laboratory. However, when Rhea asked her what had happened just now, she thought the woman did not know about it.
"I happened to be at the hospital," Lily said casually, and she glanced at her.
Rhea was holding the bottle and staring ahead indifferently with a half-smile.
"You don’t seem to be sad at all."
"Why should I be?"
Rhea looked over her shoulder at Lily and asked. She sounded justified.
"Because of Professor Thompson?"
Lily did not answer and simply looked at her.
‘Shouldn’t you be?’ "I’m not close to him."
Rhea chuckled and looked helpless.
"Although we worked in the same lab and Professor Thompson was highly respected, we were not very close personally.Of course, I feel a little uncomfortable that such a thing happened."
She held her thumb and index finger close to show how little it was bean.
"But he’s old, and nothing is permanent in this world, so I might feel sorry for him.But to feel bad about it..."
Pausing for a moment, she glanced at Lily and laughed.
"I don’t like to lie, so I must admit I’m not upset."
She candidly revealed her lack of sympathy, and Lily hardly knew how to respond. She let out a quiet sigh and said nothing.
"You, however, look rather sad.Are you close to Professor Thompson?" she asked.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1485-"I worked with him for a longer time, I guess.Although we had our differences, he was a senior, and he devised the experiment, so his death saddens me," Lily said blandly.
"Oh?"
Rhea was curious as she raised her eyebrows.
"Differences? In what aspect?"
"About the experiment."
Lily turned to look at Rhea in the same way, her gaze unwavering.
"The experiment? What do you mean? Didn't you say Professor Thompson devised it, and you respect him? Oh, yes.Are you no longer with the lab? I heard you left?" Rhea asked.
"Yes."
Lily nodded and continued, "Since we couldn’t see eye to eye with each other and our differences would only grow if I stayed, I left."
Rhea looked astonished.
"What kind of differences can’t be reconciled? From how I see it, the experiment is progressing quite smoothly.I heard you’re competent, but could it be that what you believed was wrong? At least the experiment is showing good results now!"
"What do you mean by good results? Have you guys pulled off the experiments on the poisonous herbs?" Lily stared into Rhea’s eyes.
She asked while observing Rhea’s expression.
Rhea burst out laughing and waved.
"I’m sorry.Although you contributed a lot to the lab, I can’t answer any classified information questions since you’ve left and are no longer one of us."
Lily gazed at Rhea but did not join her laughter.
Instead, Lily waited till Rhea stopped laughing, then curled her lips and said blandly, "That’s understandable."
"Then may I ask what kind of differences you had with Professor Thompson?"
Rhea pursued the question again.
"Differences about the experiment’s very basis."
Lily looked over her shoulder at the research institute’s door and saw workers moving in and out of the building.
‘Those white-coated people move around in a hurry, and everything looks the same as usual. It doesn’t matter if I stay here or not.Even Professor Thompson's death, the man who had started it all, would not have the slightest impact on this place.Well, as the saying goes, life goes on"
"For example?"
Rhea seemed very interested in Lily’s differences with Thompson and was undeterred.
"For example, I think the experiment shouldn’t continue, and the lab should immediately disband with all lab data and samples destroyed!"
Lily fixed her glare on Rhea.
"Are you satisfied with my answer, Ms.Moore?"
"Are you upset?"
Rhea noticed Lily’s expression and smiled.
"I’m just curious, and I like to get to the bottom of everything, so I hope you don’t mind.Anyway, now that you said so, I’m even more curious. Why should the experiment stop?
"Oh, yes, I also heard that you tried to destroy the lab data.I think such behavior is a bit extreme, and for bean a while, I wrongly assumed that you got fired because of it," Rhea spoke smilingly, although she was tactless.
"You're truly a curious person, aren’t you?" Lily nodded.
"Anyway, being curious is good for science, and we can only achieve innovations and breakthroughs if we don’t stop asking questions.I have a question for you, and I believe you can answer me."
"Oh?" Rhea was intrigued.
"What is it? I must say upfront that I can’t tell you anything about the experiment."
"Of course, I won't put you on the spot.I just want to ask about someone," Lily said casually.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1486-"who is it? Is it someone I know?"
Rhea blinked, sounding enthusiastic.
"austin Fike," Lily said the name and paused to see Rhea’s reaction.
"He works at the lab.You should know him."
Rhea knitted her brow and thought about it solemnly, then nodded.
"Oh, yes! Is he rather tall and gentle- looking, and is some sort of a miracle doctor?"
"Yes." Lily nodded.
"What happened to him?" Rhea quickly asked.
"That’s what I’m trying to find out."
Lily kept observing Rhea’s expression and continued, "He seemed to have stayed in the lab for the past few days without going home, and he’s not answered his calls.I wonder if he’s still experimenting in the lab."
Rhea shook her head slightly and revealed an innocent look.
"Well, I have no idea. We're in charge of different projects and hardly see each other.I’m not sure if he’s still there. How about I call his department on your behalf?"
She seemed somewhat helpful.
Lily nodded.
"I'd truly appreciate it if you could help."
"Hey, no problem at all!"
Rhea waved her off, then took out her phone to make the call.
"Is Mr.Austin Fike available? Is he not around? Then when did he leave? You’re unsure? Are you able to reach him?"
Rhea then ohed a few times and hung up the phone.
Giving Lily a resigned look, she said, "Sorry, he doesn’t seem to be in the lab.
Do you have any other ways to reach him? I don’t think I can be of help to you."
"Could he be somewhere else besides the lab, and his colleagues are unaware of it?" Lily looked up at the building.
She had never been to the uppermost floors where the top management meeting rooms were.
"I doubt it."
Rhea chuckled.
"Although it’s not a small building, you should know there are only a few laboratories, and people like us are most likely there since we’re hardly into any leisure activities.Besides, if his colleagues say they haven’t seen him, he’s most likely not in the building."
"I suppose so." Lily averted her gaze from the building and sighed.
"Please tell your colleagues to look out for any news of him.His parents are worried he’s gone missing and might call the police if they fail to reach him." Rhea nodded.
"There’s no need to call the police.Mr.Fike is a grownup and shouldn’t be in any accidents.I guess he just wants to be bean alone. You know, people do get stressed out sometimes."
She shrugged and let out a helpless look.
Lily nodded.
"You have a point, but his parents might be unable to think calmly since they miss him."
"You're right."
After a pause, Rhea sized Lily up somewhat curiously.
"But from what I know, you’re married, and your husband's family name is Russell. Why do you care about Mr.Fike so much? Also, you're close to his parents, aren’t you?"
Rhea’s tactless words insinuated that Lily had an unusual relationship with Austin as she was overly concerned with him and close to his parents.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1487-"Why? Have you severed ties with all your male friends after marriage?" Lily asked bluntly.
Rhea said, "I..."
Lily continued, not waiting for Rhea’s answer, "Oh, I forgot. You aren’t married yet, are you?"
"How do you know I’m not married?"
Rhea narrowed her eyes.
"This should be the first time we met, and I’ve never told you about my love life, have I?"
"Just like you’ve known about me, I’ve heard about you for quite a long time." Lily nodded and said meaningfully.
"Oh?"
Rhea raised her brow and felt somewhat surprised.
"You have a cousin named Anastasia, and your mother purposely hired Austin to treat her.You should be quite close to Austin, shouldn’t you?"
Lily turned around to study the woman’s expression.
Rhea caught on.
"Anastasia told you, huh?"
Lily smiled without answering.
"I'm afraid you’ve misunderstood.I hardly hang out with my cousin, although my mother treats her as a daughter and visits her often.I’m not even aware that Austin Fike has treated her.I had always been studying abroad and only just returned and joined the lab.
"It’s just a coincidence that Mr.Fike works here too.So I’m not close to him as you’ve imagined."
Rhea casually explained, then drawled, "You're closer to him than I am."
"I see."
Lily nodded thoughtfully, removed her seat belt, and held the door handle.
"Okay, I’ve said what I wanted to say and won’t interrupt your work I should get going."
She opened the car door.
As she was about to step out of the car, she heard Rhea say, "Mrs.Russell..."
Lily stopped, looked over her shoulder, and saw Rhea staring at her intensely.
"Thank you for coming to tell us about what happened to Professor Thompson.Although I hardly feel saddened by it, I feel very sorry nonetheless.
"As for the experiment, it won’t stall just because of his death. You worked on it for so long and know how important it is.Trust me.You'll soon witness what kind of changes this great experiment would bring to humankind."
Rhea sounded earnest, and her gaze was hopeful, excited, and surging with untamed desire.
Lily once saw such a desire in Thompson's eyes.
It was the desire for the laboratory’s success and the fulfillment of his ambition.
However, Rhea’s desire seemed even more potent than the professor’s.
Lily was slightly taken aback and nodded.
"I wish they are good changes for humankind, not ones that would bring disasters."
"Good or bad, only time can tell!"
Rhea stared after Lily as Lily got off the car and unhappily continued, "The ice age spelled doom for the bean dinosaurs, but without their extinction, would there be the rise of humankind and civilization? It’s short-sighted to judge something good or bad based on its short-term impact."
Lily did not want to say anymore after exiting the car.
Still, as she turned to shut the door, she could not help but retort, "I’m short- sighted since I can’t see far and don’t know how the dinosaurs went extinct.
"However, I know their extinction was caused by a natural disaster, not because of some dinosaurs’ death-seeking behavior. Also, the basic principle of being a human is not to kill our species," she said, then shut the door with a bang.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1488 -Lily returned home safely and felt the house was empty.
She had sent Galen to Dominic's place, and Alexander was not around.
Daisy had been released, leaving only her and a few maids in the large, quiet house.
She turned on the computer to read the news.
The pandemic in Burnwken has not only not been contained but has also gotten worse.
There were cases in border areas of Hyderland and some other countries, while the virus seemed to have spread from Burnwken, which was widely condemned by other nations.
Lily, on the other hand, had a feeling there was more to it than meets the eye, and she suspected it had something to do with the laboratory.
Having decided to make a trip, she looked down and caressed her tummy, wishing her children could be strong and stick it out with her.
The night fell.
Lily wrapped layers of waistbands around her waist to keep her stomach in place.
Although her belly was only slightly bulging and had not made it hard for her to move around, it somehow got in the way.
She knew if Alexander was around, he would surely stop her and chide her for doing so, but since he was not here, she could only do everything herself as she had no choice.
She put on black attire, including a mask and a hat.
Avoiding the maids, she got into her car and drove away, heading straight toward the research institute.
She planned to sneak into the building.
Having worked there for quite a while, she was familiar with its structure and layout.
Furthermore, most people would have left at night.
Although there were people on the night shift, there were not as many as during the day.
Besides, those who had to conduct experiments would have to turn on the light, so Lily knew which areas to stay away from.
Even if she were to be discovered, she was able to handle five or six security guards without a problem.
She parked her car a bit away from the research institute and got out.
Putting on a fanny pack around her waist, she stole near the boundary wall.
She knew that it was a CCTV blind spot.
She wanted to tell Thompson to do something about it but decided against it after realizing that there was something wrong with the research institute.
The matter was then put aside.
Now, the spot was the perfect place for her to sneak in instead.
Just as she prepared to leap onto the top of the wall, someone grabbed her elbow.
Lily spontaneously held the person's hand and threw the person over her shoulder.
"Ugh!"
Caught off guard, the person grunted, not expecting that her reaction would be bean so swift.
As he was rather tall, he did not land on his back, but his hurt buttocks still made him groan despite himself. It was only then that Lily saw his face.
"It’s you?"
At the basement, Austin was in a daze and could not tell how many days had passed.
He used to mark the wall with his knife to count the days, but later on, he could no longer tell how long he had slept or if it was day or night.
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1489-Without any windows, he could not see if it was dark or bright outside.
Occasionally, someone would deliver him simple food and water so he would not die of hunger, but Thompson had not returned since he left.
He was not even certain if Thompson was willing to help him or how long he would be allowed to live.He barely hung on for a while and tried to sleep through his ordeal.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, he thought someone was delivering food and did not bother to open his eyes.
However, he then heard the clear and blood-curdling click-clack of high heels that stung his eardrums and made his heart shudder.
It was the first time he had felt such fear toward a woman.
‘Rhea Moore is such a cruel woman! She is cruel deep down, and it is not a pretense.
She is so cold-blooded that she doesn’t care about human lives.
What a horrible woman!’ He did not want to open his eyes to look at her face until the click- clack stopped before him.
Towering over him, Rhea saw that he seemed to be asleep or dead, being so still.
However, she saw his eyes moving up and down beneath his eyelids.
Curling her lips, she lifted her hand, and a shaft of harsh light suddenly fell on his face, so blindingly bright that Austin held up his arms to cover his eyes.
"Rhea Moore, you're insane! Crazy bitch!" he scolded.
Having stayed in the dark for a long time, he felt dizzy and revolted at the sudden intensity of the light shining on his face Rhea laughed heartily.
"Aren’t you asleep? Why aren’t you dead yet?"
"Relax.I won’t die before you do!" Austin retorted.
Unmoved by his retort, Rhea laughed and said, "You're just in denial!"
Slowly decreasing the brightness of the light beam to the average level, she said casually, "I must hand it to you for hanging on until now. However, I wonder how you mustered your will to live.Do you still think someone will come to save you?"
Alarmed, Austin showed no emotion and said, with his eyelids lowered, "Of course! I've been missing for so long that my parents suspect something is up and call the police.Very soon the police would come here and arrest you all!"
"Oh, yeah?" Rhea said as she laughed.
"Your parents? Would they truly think something is up? Everyone knows you practically live in the research institute.Besides, being such a hotshot miracle doctor, it’s not unusual for you to visit your patients all over the country. What's so unusual about you only being gone a few days?"
Austin moved his mouth but said nothing, knowing what she said was true.
‘As a matter of fact, my parents probably would not be surprised if I went missing for a month without informing them myself or through others beforehand"
Since he kept quiet, Rhea continued, "Poor thing. It’s been days, but no one bothers to ask about you.Just what are bean you hanging on for? Oh, I see. You’re waiting for the person you sought help from, aren’t you?"
Rhea looked as if she had just realized it, and her words made his heart pump faster. He subconsciously lifted his gaze to her and saw her pretty face look creepy under the light of her flashlight.
What she was about to say would make him even more desperate.
Slightly bending over, Rhea looked at him and said, "Let me guess. Are you waiting for Professor Thompson?"
Spoiled by mr. russell chapter 1490-Austin panicked but had to act calm.
"Why would I wait for him? Isn’t he one of you?"
Nodding, Rhea said, "So you’re not waiting for him? That’s good, then.Oh, yes, you are unaware of many things that have taken place outside.Something happened to Professor Thompson today.I don’t suppose you're able to see him again."
"What happened?" Austin asked, despite himself.
"He had an accident, and the doctor couldn’t save him. What a pity."
She let out a sigh, but there was no trace of regret in her voice.
Austin’s pupils dilated in shock.
"You guys killed him?"
"Tsk, tsk, tsk..."
Rhea clicked her tongue and waved.
"How could you say that? Professor Thompson was involved in a traffic accident! A big truck crashed into his car.How could you accuse us of murder? We’ re law-abiding citizens and could not bear to murder anyone, okay?"
"Hal Law-abiding citizens?"
He snorted a laugh and said, "Would law-abiding citizens brandish their guns and commit false imprisonment? Rhea Moore, I never thought a woman could be so cold-blooded and vile! "whatever it is, Professor Thompson was your senior, and he treated you well, didn't he? He wanted to stop the experiment and change its direction, but he dared not do anything after being threatened by you guys.He didn’t even dare go to the police, for God's sake! How could you guys kill him? Are you even humans?"
He remembered that Thompson had treated him quite well after he joined the laboratory and that he would have long since died if the man had not given him food and water two days ago.
‘But now he’s dead. What about me? Am I going to die soon or has Rhea come to kill me?’ Fear surged within him.
‘These people are truly cold-blooded! Just what horrible things are they trying to create through the experiment?’
"I told you it was an accident! As for you..."
Looking down at him, Rhea said blandly, "You're injured, and we would like you to rest here so you can recuperate. You used to treat the research institute as your home and hardly went back, didn’t you? How could you say we’re committing false imprisonment?"
"B*Lshit!"
Austin did not want to argue with her anymore, as she was full of it.
Irritated, he said impatiently, "Then what do you want to do now? Kill me? If you want to kill me, do it quickly, and stop dawdling!"
He offered his neck and braced for his death.
"You’re so eager to die, huh?"
Rhea smiled.
"Didn’t I tell you that we’re law-abiding citizens and don’t kill anyone? Anyway, we can very well say that you’re the one who killed him!"
"Me?"
"Yeah, you!"
Nodding, Rhea said thoughtfully, "If he hadn't tried to tip off Lily for your sake, he wouldn’t have bean driven over there and met with the accident.
So, who else had killed him other than you?"
"I..."
Austin was flabbergasted.
For a brief moment, he nearly believed what she was saying and was almost convinced that he was the one who caused Thompson's death.
"Not only have you killed Professor Thompson, but you’re also going to get another person killed!"
Rhea continued, "I’m going to bring you over so you can see with your own eyes how many people would die because of a jinx like you!"She grabbed his collar and dragged him up from the floor.
