Ch. 2831..2840
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2831-The unconscious Rita, on the other hand, was unaware of what her father had done, which left her unable to face Sherman for quite some time.
Meanwhile, Sherman, who had left the hotel but was still concerned about Rita, had no idea that Vince-whom he had no regard for-would try to match him with Rita. Without Vince's interference, Sherman might have developed feelings for Rita.
With Vince's involvement, their relationship did not even have a chance to begin normally. He detested being trapped in a marriage controlled by others and despised being manipulated like this.
Rita woke up bewildered, not knowing where she was but aware that something had happened. As she moved her fingers slightly, Vince, who had been by her side all along, woke up as well. Although he temporarily trusted Karen, he still insisted on staying by Rita's bedside. He told Sadie to take Karen home.
"Rita, you're finally awake. You nearly scared me to death," said Vince, wiping his face and immediately ringing the bell for the nurse to come in to check on Rita.
Rita allowed the nurse to examine her body. Confused, she asked, "Dad, what happened to me? I remember I was at work. How did I end up in the hospital?
And why are you here? Did something happen? Did Sherman come? I thought I heard his voice…" She tried to recall what happened, but it only made her feel dizzier.
Vince immediately stopped her. "Don't think about it too much now. I'll tell you everything in detail once you're feeling better."
The nurse added, "Miss Rita, your condition is not serious, but you'll experience some aftereffects of the sleeping pills. They'll naturally metabolize out of your body, bol nee now, you need to avoid exerting yourself."
"Sleeping pills?! How did sleeping pills end up in my body? I've never had the habit of taking sleeping pills," cried Rita with alarm.
The nurse glanced at Vince, indicating that it was beyond their scope to explain.
He waved them off and then sat on the chair beside Rita's bed. He remained silent for a long time.
Rita continued, "Dad, what happened exactly? I won't be able to rest properly if you don't tell me. You know how I am."
Vince sighed. "Do you know you were drugged while you were at work? m don't even want to think ink about what might have happened to you if Sherman hadn't arrived in time."
Fear overwhelmed Rita's face. "What do you mean? Dad, are you joking with me? I was drugged? What does that mean? Is someone trying to harm me?"
The fact that Rita had not jumped to the worst conclusion yet showed that she was still too young and not cautious enough.
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2832-Vince had to tell her the situation as it was. "You might've been assaulted if Sherman hadn't arrived in time. I don't know who did it, but all I know is that you were too careless."
Rita was speechless for a moment. She never expected someone would stoop so low to target her like this. That explained why she felt dizzy when she was going up the elevator. Her brain felt like it was encased in cement, unable to function properly.
After a moment, she dryly asked, "So it wasn't just my imagination. Sherman did come. But where is he now?"
She felt she could get a clearer picture of what happened from Sherman for some reason. Rita sighed internally. 'Dad has a new family now, so it's a given that he'll be unable to remain objective in the retelling of the incident.' "Why are you even asking about him? He said you two are just friends. It was just the two of you in the room when I arrived. Who knows if he tried anything with you?"
Rita knew her father was only speaking out of anger, so she quickly stopped him with a frown. "Don't speak about him like that. He's not that kind of person. You said yourself that if it weren't for him, I might not even be able to talk to you properly right now. How can you speak so harshly about someone who saved my life? I just want to confirm some things with him, yet you're speaking so badly about him."
Seeing his obedient daughter standing up for Sherman as soon as she woke up angered Vince even more. "You trust a stranger more than you trust me?" asked Vince in disbelief.
Rita's brow remained tightly furrowed in discomfort. "That's not what I meant, Dad. Tell me who was there at the time, and I'll investigate what happened."
"Think about it carefully. Have you been targeted at work recently? Why else would someone have a grudge against you? Not only do you need to investigate thoroughly, but I also need to find out who did this. I'll make sure whoever dares to do something shameless like this to my daughter to regret the day they were born!" Vince said with a menacing tone.
"Dad, we live in a lawful society now. We shouldn't resort to using violence to solve our problems," interjected Rita.
Vince sighed. "You've become obsessed with being a reporter, but look at what it's gotten you. Instead of getting any good out of it, you only ended up hurt. I told you not to become a reporter, but you did listen to me! You wouldn't have ended up like this if you just stayed at home!"
Rita turned her back toward Vince. She knew her father would seize the opportunity to persuade her not to pursue journalism if anything happened.
However, this was her dream. How could she give up on it so easily?
"Dad, please stop. I need to rest now. It's getting late, so you should go back and rest too," Rita said, her exhaustion evident even in her voice and pale lips.
Vince wished he could shake some sense into her stubbornness, but seeing her like that made him reluctant to leave.
How could I just leave you alone after all that had happened? I've com already upgraded you room to a private one, and I'll be resting in the room next to yours. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, just call me, okay?"
Rita knew her father found it hard to fall asleep on any bed that was not his, so he would not be able to sleep well even in a private room.
She hesitated before persuading him, Dad, I'm feeling better now. Besides, there are doctors and nurses in the hospital. You should go back.
Judging by the dark circles under your eyes, you haven't been sleeping well, have you?"
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2833-Vince smiled and ruffled Rita's hair. "It's nothing. I used to stay up for several nights in a row when I was young. Tonight, I must stay by your side."
When Rita was younger, her father and mother would always be there for her when she was sick. Over the years, Vince had maintained this habit. Whenever she felt unwell, he would stay by Rita's side. Rita could not help but tear up at the thought of these memories, and she feebly called out, "Dad…"
Even though she was safe, she was still scared. The only reason she tried to convince him to go back was because she cared for him. Deep down, she wanted him to stay. The sense of security her father brought was something no one else could provide.
Vince simply tucked Rita's messy hair behind her ear. "You're alright, my dear.
I'll always be by your side."
As Vince expected, Rita woke up startled in the middle of the night. She subconsciously called out for her father, prompting him to rush in from the next room as if he had stayed awake, waiting for this moment. Before falling asleep, her father's words kept replaying in her mind. When she had finally fallen asleep, she dreamed that she was drugged again, knowing the danger but unable to escape. She vividly remembered in the nightmare she was coerced by a stranger into a dimly lit room while her soul seemed to be floating above, watching the whole thing while her body could not control itself or break free from the restraint.
Struggling under this sense of confinement, Rita eventually woke up. Vince, with his coat draped over his shoulders, wiped the cold sweat from her forehead with a look of concern.
"Don't be afraid, Daddy's right here. There's nothing to worry about, you're perfectly safe," Vince reassured Rita.
Subconsciously, Rita grabbed Vince's hand. The hesitance and fear she felt slowly ebbed away when she realized it was her father. She could not hold back her fear anymore, and tears flowed freely down her face.
"Dad, I'm so scared. I just had another nightmare… But this time, Sherman didn't come to save me, and neither did you. I was left alone with that stranger-"
"Sweetheart, it was just a dream! Dreams are the opposite of reality, right?"
Vince cut in gently. "Don't say such things. Something like that could never happen. I'll always go save you whenever you're in any danger."
Vince continued to comfort Rita, who cried for a long time before finally calming down.
He could not sleep after that. He simply sat by Rita's bedside, watching her fall asleep.
"Don't be afraid. I'm right here with you," he whispered.
Though Rita's body was weak, she did not dare to sleep, afraid of experiencing that terrifying nightmare again. What she feared most was the feeling of helplessness.
'I don't want to sleep. Can you stay and talk with me?" Rita pleaded.
"Your body is still weak, so you shouldn't strain yourself like this. Don't you trust Daddy? I'll always be here with you."
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2834-Rita blinked. "But what if something unexpected happens?"
Vince replied firmly, "None. Nothing of that nature will happen."
Rita wanted to ask if he would rush to her side if she, Karen, and Sadie were all in trouble, but she felt it would be too petty to ask. Seeing how exhausted her father was, she did not want to burden him further with such questions. Besides, she was afraid of his answer or hesitation.
Vince continued to comfort Rita until she fell into a deep sleep. This time, she slept peacefully until morning, perhaps because her father was beside her.
When Rita woke up, she felt like she had returned from another world. Vince kept his promise and stayed by Rita's side.
At that moment, he was standing by the window, sipping coffee. Despite not being very old, Vince had to admit that he was feeling the effects of the sleepless night. He would not have been able to keep up his energy during the day if it were not for the strong coffee.
"You're awake! Are you hungry? Should I have some food sent over?" Vince walked up to Rita happily.
"Thank you for taking care of me last night, Dad."
"No need to thank me. You're my daughter. Shall I have someone send in your breakfast?"
Rita nodded, but before Vince could call for someone, there was a knock on their door. Father and daughter exchanged a glance and smiled.
"Did you order breakfast in advance, Dad? How else could it arrive so quickly?"
Vince did not answer. Instead, he just smiled and opened the door to reveal none other than Karen and Sadie.
"Come in, come in. You two sure are early," said Vince.
Rita's smile faded. She had not expected to see the two women she hated the most so early in the morning.
Keeping up with her act of a good stepmother, Karen even brought breakfast for her.
"Why are you drinking such strong coffee so early in the morning?" Karen asked Vince.
Rita looked at her father with concern, but he just smiled. "I have to admit, I'm getting old. I stayed up the hight watching over whole night last high Rita because she didn't sleep well By morning, I was feeling a bit exhausted. Plus, I have a meeting later, so I really need this coffee."
"You should have told me earlier. I could've asked Donna to make you some chicken soup," Karen complained as she laid out the breakfast. "Rita, Donna made all your favorite snacks for you. Why don't you have some first?"
As if fearing Rita would turn Karen down, Sadie quickly chimed in, "Yeah, Rita, you're quite weak right now, so you shouldn't skip breakfast . Mom was worried you might not want to eat what she made, so she asked Donna to make you something.
Donna's skills are really exquisite. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't get to taste her cooking at home."
Sadie stuck out her tongue playfully, but it only made Rita sick to her stomach. Donna had followed Rita's mother to the Russells' home whem she married Vince , so natu Donna leaned more toward them.
Her cooking skills were exquisite, and the food she made was incredibly delicious. However, Donna rarely cooked unless Rita expressed a desire for her dishes. Not even Vince received this treatment. "Please thank Donna for me," Rita said politely.
She did not say she did not want to eat the food, so Karen naturally placed it in front of her.
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2835-Vince helped Rita sit up. "Donna knows what you like to eat the best. She would've rushed over here in tears if I hadn't told her you need some quiet to recover."
At the mention of Donna, Rita smiled. "Please tell her that I'm feeling better. I don't want her to worry."
At that moment, Karen tactfully suggested that Rita move back home.
Rita quietly nibbled on the pastry, appreciating the familiar taste of Donna's cooking.
Vince did not immediately speak up, so Karen continued, "Rita has been through so much, and her body is still weak. How can she take care of herself?
It's better for her to move back home where we can all take care of her. Plus, she'll recover faster if she gets to eat what she likes. Right, Vince?"
Vince nodded but did not decide for Rita. "Sweetheart, would you like to move back home? If you don't want to, I can have Donna bring a few people to take care of you at your place for a while."
Rita looked at Karen, who was definitely scheming something. Suddenly, she smiled. "Thank you for your offer, Karen. I'd love to move back home for a bit after I'm discharged. That way, you all don't need to worry about me."
Karen gritted her teeth, never expecting Rita to agree. Vince was also somewhat surprised. He had mentally prepared to send a few of the household staff to Rita's place to take care of her, yet she took up on Karen's offer.
"You've really matured, Rita. I certainly feel more at ease if we could take care of you at home," said Vince.
Rita nodded with a smile. "Dad, I know everyone's just worried about me.
Everyone has things to do, and if I stay at my own place, you'll surely keep worrying about me. So it's better for me to move back home. It's just that… I don't know if Karen will welcome me."
Karen could only smile reluctantly in response "Oh, don't be silly. Why would not welcome you? Weren't I the one who suggested you should move back home?
You can ask your father if you don't believe me."
Vince nodded. "Indeed. Your stepmother has always cared a lot about you."
Rita scoffed inwardly. 'Huh. She cares about me so much that she keeps digging a trap for me to fall into!' Rita had nothing to say for the rest of the time, and the three of them began chatting like a real family.
Vince suddenly remembered and asked, "Did you come to the hospital for a check-up yesterday? You mentioned feeling unwell." Karen immediately smiled shyly, while Sadie looked at him happily.
"Congratulations, Dad!"
'What are you talking about? Your mother isn't feeling well, so why are you congratulating me?" As soon as he finished speaking, Vince looked at Karen with a look of disbelief. Could it be what he was thinking?
Karen nodded. "Darling, we're finally going to have our child."
Vince still could not believe it. He grabbed Karen's hand and asked her repeatedly if it was true.
He had always wanted a son, but for so many years, Karen had not been able to conceive He thought it would become a regret in his life, so he was quite shocked to learn of the surprising news at his age.
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2836-The two of them embraced as they looked into each other's eyes.
"Thank you, Karen. Do you know how happy I am?" said Vince.
Karen's eyes were also tear-glossed. "We finally have our own child. This child has made us wait for too long."
Rita looked on coldly while Sadie walked up to hug her mother.
"Mom, Dad, soon we'll welcome a little brother. Our family will be even more complete," said Sadie.
Suddenly, Vince seemed to remember something and let go of Karen. He wiped away the tears at the corners of his eyes. He really had not expected Karen to
give him such a big surprise.
"Maybe you'll have a little sister instead. Whether it's a boy or a girl, I will cherish them as my treasure."
With tears in her eyes, Karen nodded. "Yes, you're right. Boy or girl, the child will be our treasure."
The three of them completely ignored Rita lying on the hospital bed.
Vince was too overwhelmed with joy to remember his eldest daughter was still recovering from trauma.
Karen and Sadie took away the attention from Rita on purpose. Especially when the three of them hugged each other, Sadie deliberately glanced at Rita as if showing off to her, 'Look! We're more of a family to your dad now!' However, what she did not realize was that too much had happened over the years. Rita was no longer the child who cried and demanded to be held by Vince.
"Ah!" groaned Rita, her expression twisting as if in pain.
Vince immediately let go of Karen and turned to look at his eldest daughter.
"What's wrong? Are you dizzy again? Didn't I tell you not to get up so quickly?
Lie down. Your body is still weak now. I'll come pick you up when everything is settled at home."
Rita's face looked weak, but she still managed a smile.
"I haven't congratulated you on the new baby coming, Dad," Rita said.
Vince immediately felt a bit ashamed when he heard that. "No matter how many kids I have, you'll always be my precious eldest daughter," he replied.
Rita nodded with a smile. "Well, I want to rest a little longer. Why don't you take Karen for a checkup, Dad? After all, she's not getting any younger, and having a baby at an older age is no joke."
Karen's face stiffened, but Vince took Rita's words to heart.
"You're right. Your stepmother's age is something we can't take lightly. I'll arrange for the family doctor to give CO her round the clock care after I get home. You shouldn't worry about others since you're sick, Rita. Get some rest, and we won't disturb you anymore," said Vince, patting Rita's head before leaving the room with Karen and Sadie.
Once they were all gone, Rita sighed in relief. Finally, some peace and quiet There was never a moment of that whenever the mother-daughter duo was around.
Even though she knew her father had always wanted a son, she never expected Karen to conceive after so many years of trying.
Rita lowered her gaze before she then reached for her phone to send a message to Sherman. She needed to know what had happened that day.
Sherman's call came quickly as if he had been waiting for Rita's message all along. However, after everything that had happened , Rita did not know what to say. Sherman remained silent too. Eventually, Sherman broke the silence. "Why aren't you saying anything?"
His deep voice echoed through the phone, sending a slight tingle down Rita's spine as if she had been shocked. "You saved me," she finally uttered.
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2837-"Huh, you sound like you're doing much better."
Sherman's exhaustion disappeared completely as soon as he heard Rita's voice. He leaned back into his office chair. Even though he knew Rita would be safe with her father, Sherman had been on edge until he heard her voice.
At that moment, his heart felt much lighter.
"Yeah, I'm much better now but still a bit weak. The doctor wants me to stay in the hospital for a few more days. I'll be moving back home after I get discharged," Rita reported casually as if chatting with an old friend.
Sherman's eyes suddenly snapped wide open. "Back home? To that home? Are you going to live with Karen and Sadie?" he asked.
As soon as Rita heard his reaction, she knew that the events of that day were likely connected to that mother-daughter duo.
"So, this incident had something to do with Karen?" asked Rita.
Sherman became puzzled. "Didn't your father tell you about it? I told him everything and reminded him to tell you when you wake up." "Huh." Rita was not surprised. "He's probably afraid that I'll kick up a fuss at home if I found out."
Although she was touched by her father taking care of her closely these past few days, the thought that he had concealed the true culprit who had harmed her for the sake of so-called family harmony made him feel cold.
Sherman immediately understood the intricacies of the situation when he heard Rita's scoff. Vince had always been the decisive type when it came to public matters, but when it came to family matters, he seemed to be very indecisive.
A few words whispered in his ear would often immediately change his attitude, even when it came to matters concerning his biological daughter.
"You already guessed Karen was involved in the incident, so why do you still want to go back home? What if she comes after you again? You might not be so lucky next time, "Said Sherman with a frown. He genuinely believed that Rita should not return to a dangerous place like that.
However, Rita sternly told him, "I have to go. I have to take this chance and expose that woman's true colors. I need to make Dad see the kind of person she really is. She pretends to care for me in front of others, but in reality? She's harmed me time and time again, and this time, it was only by luck that's escaped. I don't know how much luck I have left to deal with these things…
Sherman, I really need to thank you. If it weren't for you…"
She sighed, and Sherman did not know how to convince her not to go back. He understood that Rita's choice might be the most correct one for her. She had to rely on her own abilities and methods to expose Karen's true colors.
Subconsciously, he could not bear to see her do this alone, but what Could he do? It was hot was not like he was her boyfriend or husband.
Take care of yourself. Nothing is more important than your own well-being." Sherman sighed as well.
He knew how stubborn Rita could be.
No matter how much he tried to persuade her, it would not work. All he could do was remind her to prioritize her safety.
Rita chuckled softly. "I'll treat you to a meal after I'm discharged from the hospital, as a thank you."
'What? Do you not know how quickly I rushed to the hotel to rescue you?
And you want to thank me with just one meal?" teased Sherman.
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2838-Rita grumbled, "Come on, we're practically buddies now. Isn't one meal enough? How about two, then? You know what? I'll treat you to as many meals as you want, as long as you can eat that much."
"You said it yourself. You better not go back on your word. I've recorded this conversation."
"Hmph, I'm a woman of my word!"
Little did they know that in just a month, their relationship would undergo a drastic change. They would never have moments of playfulness like this again.
As Vince accompanied Karen for her check-up, he only became truly certain that he was really going to have another baby when he held that small piece of
paper in his hand. He kissed Karen's cheek in front of the doctor.
"Thank you for giving me this baby. Whatever you want in the future, I'll give it to you."
Karen blushed shyly and dodged his affection. "Come on, we've been married for so long. There's no need for such mushy stuff. Besides, everything I have is because of you. This baby is something I've been looking forward to for a long time, so I'm not only doing it for you."
Vince nodded happily. "Yes, you're right. From now on, you're the boss in our family. Whatever you say goes."
Sadie never expected her mother to get pregnant at this point, but having a son would indeed be a boon for them. Since Vince was basking in the joy of having a late-life baby, he would grant Karen anything she asked for. In other words, it would be easy for Karen to ask Vince to set Sadie up with Sherman.
Vince had not realized that Sadie was still determined to marry Sherman; he saw no compatibility between the two.
'If Sadie had an ounce of self-awareness, she wouldn't entertain such thoughts,' thought Vince. But if Rita marries Sherman, my baby boy will get to grow up in a more powerful family!' Thus, Vince decided to have a talk with Sherman after Rita was discharged.
A week later, as previously arranged, Sherman and Rita met at the restaurant they had mentioned before. It had been a while since Rita last saw Sherman, so she was a bit excited. She took a sip of water to calm her racing heart.
"Rita, you need to be more demure! You're already here twenty minutes early.
It's obvious you're eager to see him," she quietly admonished herself. However, her early arrival had already exposed her feelings for him.
Sherman arrived earlier than their agreed time as well. As Rita watched him walk up to her with his long legs, she could not but wonder if he also missed her.
It's been a while, Mister Sherman.
You look as handsome as ever," Rita said, looking up at Sherman with !!!
smile. However, she did not expect him to look so grim. "Have you been busy with work? Why do you seem so upset at coming out for dinner?"
Sherman smirked. "I didn't expect you to be so shameless, Miss Rita. Anyone would be upset if they were being taken advantage of, wouldn't they?"
"What?" Rita's smile froze. She did not understand what he was talking about. "Are you mistaken about something? We agreed that I'd treat you to dinner once I was discharged.
We even spoke on the phone before.
This meal is on me. You don't need to pay anything."
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2839-Sherman felt even more disgusted when he saw Rita's eyes widen as she continued to emphasize that he did not need to pay for the meal.
"Did you and your father plan this, with one playing good cop and the other playing bad cop? You can drop your act now. If it weren't for your tacit approval, how could he have made such a demand? I didn't want to come to this dinner, but after what your family did, I couldn't help but ask you about it. Or did you get close to me with impure intentions from the beginning?"
Rita could no longer afford to keep her smile. She felt as if she were pinned to the spot by a pillar of shame. She did not even understand what Sherman was talking about, but she understood it had something to do with her family.
Her only true family member was her father.
"If my family did something that you find unacceptable, I don't know what they did, but if that's the case, let me apologize to you first, okay? Can you please stop speaking so harshly to me?" Rita pleaded. Sherman leaned forward. "Who do you think you are, and what right do you have to speak to me like this? Did you ever think about the damage your father's words would cause my family before you made such a request to me?"
Rita had never seen Sherman like this before. She apologized to him in a fluster, "I'm sorry, I really don't know what happened. I'm truly sorry…"
Rita sat across from Sherman, feeling both aggrieved and anxious. She did not know what had caused Sherman's sudden change in attitude toward her.
However, she knew he was not the type to vent his anger without reason.
Rita became even more certain that her father must have done something unforgivable to Sherman behind her back.
She took a deep breath, trying her best to regain her composure. "I don't know what happened, but I still want to apologize on behalf of my family. If possible, could you please tell me what exactly happened. I'm sure you're aware I've been staying in the hospital for the past few days, so I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to what my family is doing…"
Rita explained, trying to seek Sherman's understanding. During their last phone call, everything seemed pleasant between them. She hoped Sherman could remember even a bit of that and not treat her like this.
All she received was a cold scoff.
"You've played your cards well. You and your father are truly the perfect team.
There are some details I only discussed with you, which means your father shouldn't have any knowledge of them. So it possible for him to know if you hadn't told him? At the end of the day, you and your father plotted this whole scheme!
"Rita, I never expected this from you. I thought we could be friends, but you treated me like a fool."
'I never thought of you as a fool!
Can't you give me a chance to find com out what really happened before accusing me like this? How is what you're doing now any different from what Karen and Sadie did to me?"
Rita was furious. She detested when people falsely accused her. Sherman was well aware of that, yet he still ruthlessly stabbed her in her most vulnerable spot.
"What's the difference between you and those two women? You've just turned into the kind of person you"
used to Kate. I'm not like you though, Rita. Since you're determined to do this, then fine, I agree to marry you.
Let's just see if you can get what you want after marrying me!"
The Day I Kissed An Older Man Chapter 2840-After saying what he wanted to say, Sherman got up and left, leaving Rita alone in her seat.
"What the hell is he talking about? When did I ever say I wanted to marry him?
What happened while I was still in the hospital?' thought Rita, feeling as if she had been frozen to the spot.
Rita quickly summoned the waiter, settled the bill, and hurried home.
She had thought things through.
They had been through a lot together. They had shared hardships, and their relationship had progressed further. She never expected him to fall in love with her, but she liked him and hoped he would pay more attention to her.
However, she never expected this outcome. Her family had already blocked her path before she even had the chance to make Sherman like her.
"Dad, tell me honestly, did you go to see Mister Sherman? What did you do?"
asked Rita.
Vince was caught off-guard by Rita's question. He stammered, "What do you mean, see Mister Sherman? Do you really think he's someone I can just go see whenever I want? Huh, you're really overestimating your old man."
Rita was frantic. Her father was still trying to deceive her! "Don't think you can fool me. Mister Sherman has told me everything. Just what the heck are you up to, Dad?"
"That's impossible!" Vince instinctively denied it. There was no way Rita would be still talking to him nicely if Sherman had really told her.
"I'll tell you everything when you're home. Just know that I'd never harm you."
Rita bit her lip. When would her father give up his selfish ways? He said he would never harm her, but because of what he did, Sherman would not even sit and have a meal with her. What happened between them?
While Rita was still in the hospital, Vince retrieved the hotel's surveillance footage and went straight to his company with a small USB flash drive in hand.
Sherman was surprised to hear that Vince was looking for him. 'Isn't he supposed to be with Rita?' Nevertheless, he had the visitor invited in.
This time, Vince seemed different. He did not even greet Sherman. Instead, he swaggered into the office and even propped his foot up on the sofa. Sherman raised an eyebrow but remained composed, quietly observing him.
"So what brings you here today, Mister Vince?" asked Sherman.
Vince put his foot down and leaned forward, meeting Sherman's gaze. "You should know very well why I'm here."
"Oh? Russell Group doesn't have any dealings with my company, so I'm not quite sure what you could want from me."
Huh! That daughter of mine is just too naive so she's often clueless As her father, I naturally have to make sure she doesn't get taken advantage of. Wouldn't you agree, Mister Sherman?"
Sherman nodded. "A father should naturally think more for his children."
Still, Vince did not seem as loving toward his children as he portrayed.
Otherwise, he would not have let his daughter suffer because of Karen and Sadie. Of course, Sherman did not point this to him.
That's right. Since you also agree, be straightforward with you. I've m retrieved all the surveillance footage from that day, and I hope you ean take responsibility for this matter, II said Vince.
Sherman did not immediately grasp the situation and even chuckled softly.
