Maximilia then pointed to a row of buildings. “Let’s head to the top!”

The two demons that walked over had already left, so she hugged Alex by the waist and used Feather Walk, leaping up to the air in the dark night. From above, they were able to look at the street better. It was quite crowded, with several stalls selling every single imaginable thing.

Alex couldn’t help but sigh. The citizens of this kingdom had disappeared entirely, and demons had turned it into their own home, opening a market and imitating humans.

If these demons hadn’t kept their beast forms, many would’ve thought that humans still ruled the area. In mere moments, they drew close to the group of tied-up humans. Now that they were closer, the two were able to recognize them. They were, in fact, the people who stayed at the Death Inn. There were quite a lot of them, eighteen to be exact. However, these people looked pathetic. They were all decorated with colored ribbons, and some had even lost their limbs.

These people were just different animals to those demons, just like how humans treated pigs as livestock. The roles had merely reversed here. More importantly, they lacked the strength to defend themselves.

Smack!

Slapped by a demon, a young teen tumbled over. After that, the demon punched and kicked him. “What the hell? Who gave you permission to pee where ever you want? Do you think this is the toilet? Get up and lick the floor clean, or we will eat you right now!”

The teen was devastated. At this point, he had lost all hope and wanted to die a swift death.

With a loud yell, he lunged towards that demon, hoping to take it down with him. However, it was all just wishful thinking. The young teen’s cultivation level was far weaker than these demons, and he was immediately subdued.

The teen lay on the ground, filled with despair.

It was then that he noticed Alex and Maximilia standing on the roof, hiding in the dark. She signaled to him not to expose their location and that they would think of a way to save them.

Unexpectedly, that teen started screaming. “Look! Humans! There are humans up there! ”

‘What?’ The two were confused.

‘Has this guy lost it?’

It caused many demons to look towards the house. Some winged ones even flew up in the blink of an eye.

“Run!”

Maximilia yelled as she retreated with Alex in her arms. To their demise, she was still slower than the flying demons.

As they were about to be caught on, she stomped onto a roof with her bare feet, sending hundreds of tiles up into the air. She then slammed them with her palm as they shot toward the demons like meteorites. Still holding Alex, Maximilia jumped to the ground, escaping through the densely packed buildings with all her might.

Unable to help, Alex could only curse the teen under his breath.

Maximilia said, “That guy doesn’t want to live anymore, but he’s a selfish bastard. Since he figured that it’s hopeless, he wishes to take everyone down with him, including us.”

Whoosh!

Just then, a demon crawled out of the ground. Alex seemed exhilarated to see it. “It’s the golden phoenix scorpion!”

They were here for the scorpion, so it was unexpected that it showed up on its own.

Maximilia said, “We can’t fight here. Let’s just lead it away.”

Alex thought about a place where the strategist had set a formation up in the past and immediately told Maximilia to go there.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The light-golden-colored phoenix scorpion looked like it was made out of gold. As large and tough as an adult buffalo, its two massive pincers looked like excavator buckets.

Alex and Maximilia kept running as the scorpion continued to chase after them, destroying everything in this way. Those ivory buildings seemed like tofu in the face of the golden phoenix scorpion.

Such a large commotion had undoubtedly caught the attention of many demons, drowning the street in utter chaos.

“After them!”

“I call dibs on that woman. I want her to bear my children!”

“Get lost! She’s mine!”

“I’ll fight you!”

“Bring it on. The winner gets to have her, and the loser has to f*ck off!”

If Maximilia knew that two ugly demons were fighting to mate with her, she would’ve likely put up an interesting expression. Those captured after going through the death’s door saw this as well.

Some yelled at the teen from before, and some were filled with despair, all hoping to die together.

“Maximilia had promised never to enter this kingdom, yet she still snuck in. She hasn’t even been captured! Just look how cunning she is… Do you really think she’d save us? Dream on! She’s probably overjoyed that we’ve been captured.”

“That’s true! That woman is busy getting seduced by that scholar. Why would she care about our safety? It’d be better if they captured her too! We’ll have to stick together. It’s good to have someone to go down to hell with us!”

Maximilia obviously couldn’t hear any of them. She took out a good number of daggers and shot them at the scorpion. However, its shell was too tough, and her attacks were useless.

There were more demons after them now. As they got closer and closer, they looked as if they were about to catch up. Soon, they would reach the place Alex had mentioned.

“Alex, go get ready! I’ll hold them off for a while!”

“Okay!”

The place with the formation had obviously been formed using ancient runes. The lighting was quite nice, and Alex could easily operate the formation.

Apart from shock, Alex felt very sorry for the kingdom. To Alex, however, this was all the past, and he had no connection to it. He would be content as long as he could trap the demons chasing after them by borrowing the formation’s power.

At the time, Maximilia was still struggling to hold back the demons.

Alex adjusted the formation accordingly, then gestured towards Maximilia.

Unable to bear it a second longer, the woman rushed over with a bunch of demons. The formation was activated, trapping all the demons chasing after them.

“Can this formation kill the enemies?” Maximilia asked.

“No, but it can restrict their movements,” Alex replied.
