“That would be enough.” Maximilia said and took a deep breath. She raised her sword and entered the formation again.

Although she was Maximilia at the time, she was Jade in all but looks. She was resolute and refused to be sluggish for the slightest second. With a blade in each hand, she rushed in, slashing every single demon as harshly as she could.

“Ahhh!!! Why would there be a formation here? How could the strategist’s formation be used against his own people?”

“That scholar… That scholar is a formation master! Kill him, kill him!”

The demons started yelling in rage, but they couldn’t do anything now that they were within the formation. Restricted, their fighting skills were obsolete. They could only watch as Maximilia sliced them up.

“You’re dead, humans!”

“Every human who trespasses into Kroraina has to die!”

As the demons shrieked, the golden phoenix scorpion continued hitting the boundary with its body as if it had gone crazy.

Since Alex needed the eggs of this scorpion, Maximilia didn’t kill it just yet. She waited till every single demon had been dealt with to handle it.

Unexpectedly, the scorpion seemed pregnant. Several minutes later, it stopped and laid flat on the ground before laying its eggs.

Alex found it ridiculous. “I didn’t expect us to get the eggs so easily.”

Maximilia rolled her eyes. “Easy? Do you know how many times I almost died?”

After a slight pause, she continued, “The scorpion is at its weakest right after giving birth. Let’s kill it when it’s in this state!”

She rushed over, only to see the scorpion lifting its tail into the air.

“Be careful!” Alex yelled.

Whoosh!

The tail shot out a poison sting. It landed on the back of Maximilia’s thigh, rather near to her butt. The woman was badly injured, but she continued attacking relentlessly, knowing she needed to kill that scorpion. In the end, she chopped off its head while enduring the intense pain.

With this, the fight had finally ended. However, Maximilia fell to the ground as well, her thigh red and swollen.

Alex rushed over. “The poison of a golden phoenix scorpion is always changing, and each one has different properties. You have to get the stinger out.”

Maximilia wanted to do that as well, but even the slightest touch was excruciating. Yet the poison spread quickly, heading towards the heart through her bloodstreams.

“We can’t delay it any longer. Just let me have a look!” Alex said and took off her pants.

Since they had hugged each other naked to warm up in a dark place, he thought that treating her poisoned wound wouldn’t be a problem at all. Alex made a small slit in Maximilia’s thigh a few minutes later and successfully took the stinger out. About the poison… Alex figured that something within the scorpion could be used as a cure.

Just as he was dissecting the scorpion, Maximilia hugged him tightly from behind. Her expression was weird, and her cheeks were bright red. Moreover, her entire body felt very warm, and her eyes filled with sheer desire.

Alex jumped. “What’s wrong, Maximilia?”

She tore off her top and stumbled over her words. “I want to do it with you!”

‘What?!’ Alex froze and instantly understood what was going on.

The poison that the scorpion released was rather peculiar, it could enhance a woman’s sexual desires.

“Was it because the scorpion was pregnant?”

Alex immediately looked for a cure, yet Maximilia pinned him down to the ground. His current self couldn’t possibly defend himself against the woman, so she was able to get on top of him very easily.

It really did hurt a lot.

Later on, Alex was the one who had to turn around. He looked at Maximilia. Her hair seemed quite messy. “Maximilia, let me have a good look at you! I couldn’t see you properly for a few days. It was too dark…”

Maximilia pushed his face away. “What’s there to look at? This is just the body of an illusionary woman. She doesn’t even possess ten percent of my actual beauty.”

“Nah, I think you look pretty good.”

Alex took another step, going up the third step. But, again, nothing happened at all.

“What’s happening?”

“Does the illusionary realm only appear on the first step?”

Alex was hesitant for a short while, then immediately started dashing upwards.

‘Fourth… Fifth… Sixth…’

He reached the thirteenth step in mere seconds, which was Eustace’s limit. However, he just stayed on that step for half a second before ascending further.

‘Fourteenth…Fifteenth… Sixteenth…’

Lorelei, Nebula, and the others were absolutely stunned. They had lived here for three thousand years and had tried going up the stairs thousands of times. Even so, something this weird had never happened in the past. Every step had its own story and mission, always in a constant pattern. Despite all this, Alex’s current speed was simply unbelievable. It was something that they had never experienced before.

“Could the stairs be broken?”

Without exerting much strength, Alex could ascend over five hundred steps. Moreover, he seemed to be moving quicker and quicker, going as far as the thousandth step. After that, he ran straight into the clouds. No one could see him.

Jade smiled brightly. “This guy is always so remarkable…”

Gilbert asked, “Commander Benmore, did you end up in the same illusionary realm as Alex when you went up the first step? What did you two experience there?”

‘What did we experience?’

Jade’s heart thumped slightly when reminded of their little “session”. Nevertheless, she remained calm on the outside.

He suddenly heard a loud noise coming from afar. A cloud of dust could be seen as if something was sprinting towards him. Alex stood there silently as he watched on. In the end, he saw a group of Undead.

It was an endless swarm of skeleton troops and Undead beings. Alex had fought this clan at close range before. He had even encountered some of them in several dungeons. Moreover, he had personally entered the Undead Territory once and was hunted down by swarms.

The Undead in front of him were the ones he had seen in the past, the strongest kind. The entire front row alone consisted of dozens of Undead Kings.

In the middle of all these Undead Kings, a woman dressed in red armor sat on a luxurious chariot. Alex started shivering as soon as he laid eyes on that woman. He looked at her in disbelief because he had seen her in the past.

It was under the Dead Zone, within Emperor Genbu’s territory. She had once projected a phantom of herself to fight the emperor. She was the Undead Queen of the Undead clan.

‘Why would there be such strong Undead troops at the end of the stairs, including the Undead Queen?’

‘Illusion!’

‘This must be another illusion!’

‘What character am I this time?’

The chariot stopped a hundred meters away from him. The queen’s eyes looked very mysterious as she stared at him. “We meet again, seed.”

Alex was stunned, he thought. ‘This illusionary realm is quite impressive. The Undead Queen even knows about me being the seed. Truly impressive.’

The queen smiled sweetly. “Do you think this is an illusionary realm? And that this is all just an illusion?”

Alex froze. “Is it not?”

The queen chuckled. “The buildings and floating mountain you just saw was the true illusion. I have been waiting here for a very long time to meet you again, seed.”

‘What?’ Alex was dumbfounded.

‘This is not an illusion? It’s all real?’

“Then what is this place?” He spoke his mind.

“What is this place?” The queen giggled once more. “Take a guess, but I suppose you won’t get it right. Do you know what the Heavenly Stairs are? Do you know… What lies at the end of all nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine steps?”

Alex was utterly appalled. ‘This Undead Queen knows about this too! That means everything she says is true. This is really not an illusion.’

Suddenly, he remembered that he wasn’t inside his own body when he was in the first step. Not even his clothes were his. Everything had been created by the illusionary realm. He immediately checked his clothes, only to realize that it was, in fact, his own. Nothing had changed, not even in the slightest.

Alex then checked his mind palace, noticing that Shelly, Ancestor Bodhi, and the Mysterious Maiden of Nine Heavens were all still there as well. They responded as usual when he called out to them.

“Oh no. Does that mean the stairs lead to the Undead Territory?”

“Hahahaha!” The Undead Queen cackled. “Correct! The stairs do lead to our territory! It is something we Undead have purposefully put in this universe. We hoped that someone could go all the way up, open the door and welcome us.”

“We have been waiting for thousands of years. I have to thank you for letting us come back to this universe.”

Alex nearly vomited blood. Initially, Emperor Genbu had fought for three years worth of time for them to prepare, and there was supposed to be one more year left. However, walking up the Heavenly Stairs had shortened this time by a whole year.

“Seed, you are quite amazing,” the queen spoke up again. “I see potential in you, so it would be a shame to kill you. That’s why I’m giving you a special chance right now. Join my clan, and I will train you. You can become an Undead King.”

Alex scoffed loudly. “Dream on…”

“What? Do you think the position is too low for you? Well fine. You’re the seed, and the entire universe sees you as their ruler. It is in fact too low!”

“How about this then? You can be my king, and I shall bring you to another universe! This is a lowly universe, even falling behind the other universes. There’s no point in achieving anything here. Follow me to a universe of a higher class. That’s where we should actually be going.”

Two Undead Kings dragged Frostine. Her clothes torn and tattered, her hair disheveled, and her body still covered in blood, it gave her the appearance of a long-term prisoner. She didn’t say anything.

Alex, on the other hand, could see that she was still alive, albeit unconscious. Remembering how Frostine defended herself and treated her, Alex’s eyes were red, and he felt his heart ache.

“What did you guys do to her?”

“It’s not really about what happened, but what’s going to happen to her if you anger me again,” the Undead Queen explained.

“Undead Queen, you are at least an Undying Clan king, but you employed a method as despicable as kidnapping. Aren’t you ashamed?” Alex roared.

The Undead Queen burst out laughing. “You don’t have to provoke me, Alex! In the eyes of you humans, my Undying Clan has always been a bad thing. Do you think I care about my reputation? What difference does it make if I’m a b*tch? Are you ready to be my king now?”

Alex took a look at her. “Impossible!”

“Do you want to watch her die?” asked the Undead Queen.

Alex didn’t say anything because he was waiting for an opportunity. Then, he rushed over, and the Ten-Point Forbidden Spell he had prepared for a long time struck out with gusto, attempting to snare Frostine from the Undead Queen’s hands.

The face reminded him of someone he knew. She was dressed in a tattered white skirt, her feet were bare, and there was blood on the soles of her feet, as well as slap marks and scabs on her face.

“Dada, Dada…” Bubbles looked at Alex and called out softly.

At that moment, Alex’s heart was as if pierced by a sharp knife.

“Undead Queen, you are heinous and shameless. You… How did you capture her?!”

The statue nodded. “That’s correct!”

Alex became ecstatic and danced around like a lunatic.

Finally, the statue stopped him. “You passed the test and exceeded my expectations. I have now decided that you are the true seed.”

Alex was taken aback. ”Didn’t you tell me to compete fairly with Eustace?”

“There is no time… The Immortal-slaying Sword Formation can only last another seven days!” said the female statue.
