Chapter 2248

Chapter 2248 (Enhanced Version)

Robert put on a display of overwhelming generosity.

Wren shook his head repeatedly. “Brother, what are you saying? Dad’s will was clear. The property was left to you. How could I possibly fight you for it?”

Robert tightened his grip on the teacup and let out a long, weary sigh, lowering his gaze.

“The truth is… I failed Dad as a son. He left everything to me because he was worried about my future—afraid I wouldn’t be able to stand on my own and would end up struggling.”

When he looked up again, his eyes were faintly glossed with emotion.

“Wren, your son Nathaniel turned out well. He built such a large company. But mine…” He trailed off bitterly. “Useless. He stays home all day—eating, drinking, wasting time. When I grow old, who knows how miserable things will become?”

Hearing this, Wren’s expression softened with sympathy.

“Brother, don’t say that. We’re family. How could we just watch you fall into hardship?”

Robert nodded, as if deeply moved. “I know you’ve always treated me well. It’s just… Nathaniel and the others still misunderstand me.”

“I’ve already spoken to Nathaniel,” Wren reassured him. “He let go of those grievances a long time ago.”

Robert hesitated briefly before speaking again. “Then… could you ask Nathaniel for help? Have him speak to Mr. Chandler on my behalf?”

Wren faltered.

He clearly remembered Nathaniel’s stance—he had already helped Robert once, and had made it clear there wouldn’t be a second time.

Seeing Wren hesitate, Robert gave a self-deprecating smile. “Forget it. Looks like Nathaniel still hasn’t forgiven me.”

Wren immediately shook his head. “What are you saying? I’ll talk to him right away. This is for the Rainsworth family cemetery—he’ll definitely help.”

“Good.” Robert almost smiled but suppressed it quickly.

After a pause, he added cautiously, “But this time… whatever you do, don’t mention that it was my idea. I’m still worried…”

“Alright,” Wren agreed. “I’ll just say I took an interest in the land myself—that it’s a prime burial site with excellent feng shui.”

“Mm. Good.”

With that settled, Wren wasted no time and went to find his son.

Nathaniel had been staying by Cecilia’s side recently.

Not long ago, he had also learned about Jon’s fight with Felix. While handling work, he said calmly, “If something like that happens again, you don’t need to answer his calls.”

That afternoon, Wren called him again.

Nathaniel had assumed it was about the child, but instead, Wren brought up Mr. Chandler.

“Why do you want his land?” Nathaniel asked.

“I heard it’s a piece of land with excellent feng shui. I’m planning to expand the family cemetery,” Wren replied.

That immediately struck Nathaniel as odd.

His father had never believed in feng shui.

“…Alright,” Nathaniel said after a pause. “When I have time, I’ll speak to Mr. Chandler.”

“Good.”

But the moment he hung up, Nathaniel turned and called Elena.

As soon as she heard the situation, Elena revealed the truth without hesitation.

“Son, don’t get involved in this. The one pushing for that land is your uncle. No one knows what he’s really planning—he’s far too calculating.”

The moment Nathaniel learned the land was tied to Robert, the situation no longer seemed simple.

“Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll look into it first.”

“Good… that’s good.”

Only then did Elena relax slightly.

Nathaniel had Arnold send over Mr. Chandler’s contact information and called him directly.

Mr. Chandler might not care about giving Wren face, but he certainly wouldn’t risk offending Nathaniel.

“Mr. Rainsworth,” he said the moment he answered, getting straight to the point, “you’re not calling to ask for my land too, are you?”

Nathaniel didn’t respond directly.

“Before I contacted you… who else tried to buy that land?”

There was a long pause on the other end.

Finally, Mr. Chandler replied, “Two people. Your uncle… and your father.”
