Chapter 2249

Chapter 2249 (Refined Version)

On the other end, Mr. Chandler let out a sigh.

“You know what Robert is like. He’s not the kind of man who’ll accept a loss. But now he suddenly wants to buy my land at a high price… I can’t shake the feeling something’s going on.”

Knowing Nathaniel didn’t get along with his uncle, Mr. Chandler spoke without reservation.

“Mm. And then?”

“I definitely don’t want to let him have it cheap,” Mr. Chandler said, though his tone turned hesitant. “But your father came to see me again today. I didn’t know what else to do, so I could only turn him away at the door.”

His voice remained especially polite with Nathaniel.

Nathaniel understood why. His father had clashed with Mr. Chandler before—that was why the latter refused to see him.

“Mr. Chandler, it’s your land. Whether you sell it or not is entirely your decision,” Nathaniel said calmly. “You don’t need to overthink it. If you want to sell, then sell.”

“But…”

“As for my dad, you don’t need to worry about him.”

“…Alright. That’s good.” Mr. Chandler finally exhaled in relief.

He had been worried Wren might go to Nathaniel and complain.

Nathaniel stared at his phone for a moment after hanging up. Then he dialed another number.

“I’ll send you the address of a piece of land. Investigate it. I want every detail—within one day.”

“Yes,” came the immediate reply.

Only then did Nathaniel put the phone down.

Cecilia noticed the change in his expression.

“What happened? Did Dad call you again about the kids?”

“No.”

Nathaniel explained everything from beginning to end.

After hearing it, Cecilia immediately sensed it wasn’t simple.

“What, is there gold buried in that land or something?” she asked.

“Not gold,” Nathaniel said. “But there’s definitely money to be made.”

Cecilia nodded.

That made sense.

Robert had always been sharp—and not in an honest way.

He had made plenty of dirty money before. Elena had even suspected he’d forged the will, but there had never been any proof.

By dinnertime, Nathaniel’s people had already uncovered the truth.

He answered the call.

“Sir, that piece of land is about to be acquired. Word is, the compensation price will be several times higher than the current market rate.”

No wonder.

A mocking smile tugged at Nathaniel’s lips.

So that was why Robert suddenly wanted that land.

He claimed it was for a cemetery—but once he got it, he’d find an excuse to keep it, then sit back and wait for the payout.

Cecilia, sitting beside him, had heard everything.

“He’s trying to pocket the difference,” she said quietly. “And it won’t be a small amount—not for something that can flip that fast.”

Nathaniel tapped his fingers lightly against the table.

“Same old dirty tricks. If he wants it…” His eyes turned cold. “Then I’ll make sure he gets it.”

Cecilia immediately caught the meaning behind his words.

There was no way Nathaniel would help Robert for free.

“What are you planning to do?” she asked.

“You’ll know when the time comes.”

He didn’t elaborate.

Seeing that, Cecilia didn’t press further.

Nathaniel made another call.

Only after ending it did he contact Mr. Chandler again.

“Mr. Chandler, is that piece of land important to you?” Nathaniel asked.

“It’s just a patch of wasteland. It’s not worth much,” Mr. Chandler replied honestly. “I just can’t figure out why Robert wants it.”

He was a shrewd man himself.

If it had been anyone else, he would’ve sold it already. But with Robert involved, he couldn’t help being cautious.

After all, there was no such thing as a free lunch.

So why was Robert willing to pay such a high price?

“In that case…” Nathaniel said slowly, emphasizing each word, “are you willing to sell it to me?”

There was a brief pause.

Then Nathaniel added, his tone steady and firm:

“I can promise you one thing—
I won’t let you take a loss.”
