Chapter 2253

Wren noticed the looks on everyone’s faces and let out a sigh.

“You people really don’t understand my older brother. Deep down, he’s still a good man.”

Elena nearly told him the truth.

The only one who didn’t understand Robert… was Wren himself.

Everyone else at the table could see exactly what kind of man Robert was.

Even Elliot and Jon could tell he wasn’t trustworthy.

Elliot looked at Wren and said, trying to be helpful, “Grandpa, you really shouldn’t trust people so easily.”

“Elliot, don’t bother,” Jon cut in. “Once Grandpa makes up his mind, not even ten bulls could drag him back.”

Elliot let out a small “oh,” then shook his head.

With a seriousness that didn’t match his age, he said, “That’s kind of sad. I thought adults were supposed to be smarter.”

Wren went silent for a moment before replying, “…Elliot, it’s very rude to talk about Grandpa like that.”

Elliot lifted his head and looked at him again.

“Got it, Grandpa. You’re very smart.”

The whole family nearly burst out laughing.

Wren’s face flushed bright red.

He didn’t say another word.

Seeing his reaction, everyone lowered their heads and went back to eating.

After dinner, Cecilia and the others stayed the night.

Back in their bedroom, she looked at Nathaniel and asked, “Did you do something to that land?”

Nathaniel grabbed two bottles of water from the fridge, handed one to her, and opened the other for himself. After taking a sip, he said, “Very smart.”

“Are you complimenting me or making fun of me?”

Cecilia had been on Nathaniel’s side the whole time, so she had already seen through what he was doing.

Nathaniel was about to answer when there was a knock at the door.

“Come in.”

The door opened, and Elena walked in, clearly too impatient to wait.

“Nathaniel, what exactly is going on here?” she asked.

Nathaniel calmly explained the land’s value. “By next month, even a conservative estimate puts it at more than fifty times its current worth.”

“What?” Elena stared at him. “No wonder Robert was willing to pay so much. So that’s what this is about.”

Nathaniel nodded.

“Then why would you let him get exactly what he wanted?” she pressed.

“Mom, don’t worry. That land is already useless,” Nathaniel said.

The moment he said that, both Cecilia and Elena understood.

“Good,” Elena said, her expression full of approval. “Back when you and your brother were little, your Uncle Adrian was always bullying us. It’s about time he got a taste of it.”

She glanced at the two of them. “Alright, I won’t disturb you any longer.”

She left and quietly closed the door behind her.

Nathaniel walked over and locked it.

“Now you see?” he said.

Cecilia nodded. “But how did you pull it off?”

“I just happen to know someone…” Nathaniel gave a brief explanation, keeping it simple.

After hearing him out, Cecilia looked at him differently.

“You really are something.”

On the other side, the moment Robert secured the land, he immediately ordered construction to begin.

It had to be completed within the month.

When Miranda heard this, she was confused. “Dad, there are only fifteen days left. How are they supposed to finish building anything in that time?”

“You don’t understand. I’m doing this to make money,” Robert said mysteriously. “Anyway… once it’s built, it’ll be torn down.”

A piece of land by itself wasn’t nearly as valuable as land with a building on it.

If Robert wanted to maximize profits, he needed that structure completed within the time window.

Miranda knew her father-in-law wasn’t the type to act without reason, so she didn’t press further.

But Robert stopped her.

“Miranda, you and Cecilia are both daughters-in-law of the Rainsworth family. You need to work harder.”

His words were clearly aimed at Cecilia.

Miranda’s expression stiffened.

She didn’t dare show any disrespect, so she simply nodded awkwardly.

“Yes.”
