Chapter 2254

Half a month passed in the blink of an eye.

Nathaniel checked the time.

He knew the moment had come, so he called Wren.

“Dad, we’re free today. Want to go check on the progress of the ancestral graves expansion?”

The second Wren heard that, he agreed without hesitation. “Sure.”

After hanging up, Nathaniel turned to Cecilia.

“Want to go watch a show?”

Cecilia looked up at him.

For the past several days, Nathaniel had practically moved his office into her company.

“What show?”

“Something about Robert,” Nathaniel said.

“Sure.” Cecilia’s eyes lit up.

Lately, it had been nothing but work. She could use a little entertainment.

They drove together to the ancestral burial grounds.

The moment they arrived, they saw it.

The empty wasteland beside the graves was gone.

In its place stood a high-rise building still under construction.

Cecilia had already known about it, so she wasn’t surprised.

But Wren—who had just arrived not long before—stood frozen, shock written all over his face.

“What is this supposed to be?” Wren snapped, already pulling out his phone to call Robert. “Didn’t you say you bought this land to expand the family graveyard? Why are you building houses on it instead?”

Robert clearly hadn’t expected Wren to find out today.

He hurried to explain, “Wren, don’t get worked up. There’s a reason for this. Give me a few days, and I’ll explain everything.”

“What reason? Tell me now. Don’t take me for a fool!”

Left with no choice, Robert gave in. He didn’t want to offend his foolish younger brother outright.

“Wren, I’m on my way. I’ll explain everything in person.”

Only then did Wren lower his phone.

That was when he noticed Nathaniel and Cecilia already walking toward him.

“Dad.”

They greeted him in unison.

Wren nodded. “Mm.”

Nathaniel glanced at the half-built structure, then said dryly, “Dad, is it popular now to build graves that look like houses?”

Wren was caught off guard, too embarrassed to explain.

“Your uncle said there’s a reason. He’ll be here soon to explain it himself.”

Nathaniel looked at him. “Dad, you still believe him?”

“What do you mean?”

“I’ll tell you the truth,” Nathaniel said, enunciating each word. “I looked into this land. It’s been marked for acquisition. If someone builds houses on it, the compensation won’t just be the original price—it’ll be several times higher. At the very least, fifty times.”

Wren stared at him, stunned. “You’re serious?”

“Of course. I wouldn’t lie to you about something like this.”

The color drained from Wren’s face.

“So he used me on purpose?”

“That’s exactly what it looks like,” Nathaniel said bluntly.

“I don’t believe it!”

“Then wait until he gets here,” Nathaniel said calmly, his eyes fixed on the unfinished building. “I’ve got a surprise waiting for him. The only question is whether he can handle it.”

It wasn’t long before a Bentley rolled up.

The door opened, and Robert stepped out, walking quickly toward them.

“Nathaniel, Cecilia—you’re here too.”

He wore a sharply tailored suit, his hair slicked neatly back.

He looked energetic, nothing like a man already past sixty.

“Brother, what’s going on here?” Wren demanded.

Robert turned to him and said, “Wren, I only found out about it recently too. They said this land is going to be acquired. When an opportunity like that falls into your lap, of course you want to maximize the profit. So I had the workers rush construction, working overtime to get the building up.”

As Wren listened, every word matched what Nathaniel had already told him.

“Robert… you used me?”

“How is that using you?” Robert shot back. “I only found out a few days ago myself.”
