Chapter 2256

Robert grabbed the assistant’s arm, locking eyes with him.

Sweat streamed down the assistant’s face as he stammered, “This land… it’s really not on the list.”

Robert still couldn’t believe it. His body gave out for a second, and he nearly collapsed on the spot.

“How could this happen? I already checked everything.”

“Sir, they might’ve changed it at the last minute,” Arnold said.

Robert clenched his fists.

“How is that possible? How is that possible…”

Then his gaze snapped toward the three figures in the distance, locking straight onto Nathaniel.

“It was you, wasn’t it? You set me up?!”

He didn’t need to think hard. Everything had lined up too perfectly, and now the redevelopment plan had suddenly vanished. Someone had to have interfered.

He thought back to Nathaniel agreeing to handle the matter for him, only to turn around and sell him the land. Put it all together—what else could it be?

Nathaniel raised an eyebrow slightly.

“Uncle Robert, what are you talking about? I don’t understand any of this.”

That innocent look was the last straw. Robert completely lost control. He strode forward and raised his hand to slap him.

But there was no way Nathaniel would let that happen.

He moved instantly, catching Robert’s wrist midair.

“Robert, nothing’s even clear yet, and you’re already trying to hit me?”

His voice wasn’t loud, but the weight behind it hit hard.

Robert froze under the pressure. It bore down on him, draining the strength from his body.

“I… I…”

Nathaniel flicked his hand away sharply.

Robert staggered back several steps, barely managing to steady himself. He forced himself to calm down.

At that moment, Wren stepped forward. “What happened?”

Robert looked at his confused expression and decided it didn’t seem fake.

His brother really didn’t know.

“The dossier’s out. This place is still classified as wasteland. I took a loss.”

It wasn’t just a loss.

He had lost everything.

With everything flipping upside down so suddenly, Wren still hadn’t fully processed it.

After a long pause, he finally asked, “Weren’t you certain about it? How did it fall through?”

To Robert, those words sounded like open mockery.

He ground his teeth, shot Nathaniel a sideways glance, and said in a strange, loaded tone, “Who knows who was behind it.”

“You were too reckless.” Wren’s anger had faded. Seeing his brother like this, he couldn’t help but feel a trace of sympathy.

Robert ignored him and turned to Arnold. “Why are you still standing there? Go stop the construction.”

“Stop it just like that?” Arnold asked, stunned.

“Then what, keep bleeding money?” Robert snapped.

The buildings going up had only been thrown together for show.

No one could actually live in them.

And even if they could, there was a graveyard right next door.

No normal buyer would touch a place like that.

“Yes, of course.”

Arnold hurried off to take care of it.

After he left, Robert stood there as if hollowed out.

He couldn’t steady himself at all.

Wren looked at him with a hint of pity. “Brother, don’t work yourself up too much. It’s not good for your health.”

Robert gave a stiff nod. “Mm.”

Off to the side, Cecilia and Nathaniel watched the scene unfold.

The laughter pressing against their chests was getting harder and harder to hold back.

So this was what it looked like when the tide finally turned.

“That’s right, Robert. Everyone misjudges things sometimes. Don’t take it too hard,” Cecilia said, her tone full of concern.

Robert looked at her and gave another stiff nod. “Mm.”

He’d been around long enough to know who had really orchestrated this.

Too bad he had no proof.

And even if he did, there was nothing he could do.

Cecilia slipped her arm through Nathaniel’s and looked at Robert.

“Honestly, Robert… why not just turn this land into ancestral tombs instead?”
