Chapter 2262

Cecilia had no choice but to tell the doctor to bring Nathaniel’s fever down as quickly as possible.

As the doctor worked, Nathaniel kept murmuring in his sleep.

“Ceci… this time I’ll protect you. I won’t let anyone bully you again.”

Cecilia froze for a moment when she heard that.

Something tightened in her chest.

So that was why he had been clinging to her lately.

He’d been afraid something would happen to her.

“It’s okay, it’s okay. Don’t worry. I’m fine. Nothing’s going to happen to me,” Cecilia said softly, trying to soothe him.

Nathaniel seemed to hear her.

After that, he stopped mumbling.

The doctor, standing off to the side, witnessed everything.

Once Nathaniel’s temperature had come down, the doctor stood up. “Madam, Mr. Rainsworth should be fine now.”

Only then did Cecilia finally let out a breath.

“That’s good. You should head back and get some rest too. I’m sorry for calling you out so late.”

“It’s no trouble.”

The private physician packed up and left.

Cecilia reached out and touched Nathaniel’s forehead again.

Sure enough, it was much cooler.

She was just about to pull her hand away when Nathaniel suddenly caught it.

She froze.

Nathaniel slowly opened his eyes. “Ceci.”

“You’re awake?” Cecilia asked.

He still looked groggy. Holding her hand, he nodded faintly. “What happened to me?”

“You had a fever and kept talking in your sleep. You didn’t let me sleep either,” Cecilia said plainly.

Nathaniel pressed a hand to his forehead. “No wonder. My head feels so heavy… I feel awful.”

Seeing him like this, Cecilia couldn’t stay stern.

“Alright. It’s still early. Go back to sleep.”

She needed more rest herself—she could barely keep her eyes open.

Nathaniel didn’t let go of her hand. He gave a light tug, and the next second, Cecilia fell into his arms.

“Let me hold you properly,” he murmured.

Too sleepy to argue, Cecilia just slipped back under the covers and let him hold her.

Time passed quietly.

When Cecilia opened her eyes again, the sun was already high.

She sat up quickly and grabbed her phone.

11:00 a.m.

“Wow, how did I sleep this late?”

As she spoke, she turned to the empty space beside her.

“Why didn’t you wake me—”

She stopped mid-sentence.

Nathaniel wasn’t there.

Frowning, Cecilia got out of bed.

When she stepped outside, she found Nathaniel in the kitchen.

The moment he saw her, he said, “You’re up. Come eat breakfast… or I guess it’s lunch now.”

Cecilia walked over and looked at the dishes on the table.

They weren’t exactly impressive.

“This is…?”

“I made it. Just make do with it. If it’s really bad, I’ll have someone bring food,” Nathaniel said.

Cecilia sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and started eating.

Nathaniel watched her closely.

“How is it?”

“It’s pretty good. You’ve improved a lot,” she said between bites.

To be fair, he really had improved.

His cooking used to be impossible to eat.

This was much better.

Nathaniel smiled to himself. “If you like it, I’ll cook for you every day.”

Cecilia cut him off immediately. “That won’t be necessary. You should stick to being the boss.”

As far as she was concerned, a professional chef still did it better.

Nathaniel’s cooking was just passable.

“Okay.”

His expression dimmed slightly.

Cecilia hesitated, then added, “Once in a while is fine.”

“Mm. Okay.”

Nathaniel nodded quickly, like someone had flipped a switch back on.

Seeing him like that, Cecilia didn’t know what to say.

She finished eating and stood up. “Alright, I’m done. I’m heading to the company. You stay home and get some rest.”

After all, he had just been sick. It was better for him to stay home.
