Chapter 2271

As soon as Nathaniel and the others left, Robert immediately called Miranda.

“What the hell were you thinking?”

The moment he spoke, it was an accusation.

Miranda sounded confused. “Dad, what happened?”

“You still have the nerve to ask? What exactly did you say to Cecilia? Did you tell them I was the one who sent you to ask for the money back?”

Robert was furious, his face burning with humiliation.

He was an elder—yet he’d had a junior go beg other juniors for money.

If Nathaniel and the others spread that around, he could forget about maintaining any standing in the business world.

People would laugh him into the ground.

Miranda listened to his outburst, her brows knitting slightly.

She held herself back and kept her voice calm. “Dad, you must’ve misunderstood. Why would I do something that stupid?”

She continued smoothly, “I followed your instructions exactly. I blamed them first, and only then brought up returning the money. How was I supposed to know Cecilia would be so sharp? Not only did she refuse, she even turned it around and lectured me.”

After hearing that, Robert realized he’d blamed her unfairly.

But as the elder, there was no way he would apologize.

“Fine. Let’s drop it. But next time, use your head. Don’t push all the responsibility onto others.”

“Okay. I understand,” Miranda said obediently.

“And one more thing,” Robert added. “While I’m in the hospital, I’ll leave the company in your hands. If anything comes up, ask me.”

The truth was, he didn’t fully trust her—but he had no choice.

His son was useless, and Miranda was the only one he could rely on.

The moment she heard that, satisfaction flashed in her eyes.

“Okay, Dad. Thank you for trusting me. I won’t let you down.”

Robert nodded and closed his eyes.

“Alright. You can go. I’m tired.”

Miranda turned and left.

Once she was gone, Robert opened his eyes again and let out a long sigh.

Outside the hospital, Miranda immediately pulled out her phone and called her lover.

“The old man finally let go.”

“Really? That’s great. Be careful these next few days. Don’t let him notice anything,” the man said.

Miranda already understood.

“Don’t worry.”

After hanging up, she got into the car.

The driver took her straight to the company.

The moment they arrived, Miranda stepped out quickly and headed inside.

She went straight to Robert’s executive office.

The assistant approached, confused. “Ms. Miranda, why are you here?”

Then she added, cautiously, “This is Chairman Robert’s office.”

Miranda smiled faintly. “I know. Dad has already handed everything over to me.”

The assistant hesitated. “I’m sorry, but I’ll need to confirm that with Mr. Robert.”

Miranda sat down in the chair, spreading her hands casually. “Go ahead.”

Arnold nodded and stepped outside to make the call.

Miranda waited, completely at ease.

It wasn’t long before he returned.

“Ms. Miranda, I just confirmed with Mr. Robert. He did ask you to take over. I apologize.”

“It’s fine,” Miranda said, rising to her feet. “You didn’t know. Besides, you were just doing your job.”

She patted him lightly on the shoulder.

“But in the future, you should learn to read the situation. Understand?”

Arnold nodded quickly. “Understood.”

“Good. You can go now.”
