Chapter 2295
Wren frowned.
“That’s someone else’s family business. What’s there to see?”
Elena didn’t back down an inch.
“Didn’t you just say your brother is family? So now that something’s happened in his house, it suddenly isn’t?”
That landed squarely.
Wren choked on his words and had nothing to say.
Off to the side, Cecilia looked a little uncomfortable.
Luckily, Nathaniel stepped in.
“If you want to go, then go take a look. We’re worried about Robert’s family too.”
He paused before adding, “We can’t let Uncle Robert’s family do something reckless in the heat of the moment.”
Miranda and Julian had already been dragged back. If things kept escalating, there was no telling what Robert and the others might do.
As soon as Wren heard that, he understood. He nodded immediately.
“You’re right. We should go check it out.”
He was worried about his older brother too.
Elsewhere.
Robert’s house.
Miranda and Julian looked completely worn down as they knelt on the floor.
They had clearly already been beaten—injuries covered them from head to toe.
Robert sat at the head of the room, his gaze cold enough to cut.
“Miranda, did the Rainsworth family ever treat you poorly? How could you do something this shameless?” he asked.
Red handprints marked Miranda’s face—Adrian had slapped her more than once while standing off to the side.
She glared at Robert, then at Adrian, who looked ready to explode again at any second.
“Shameless? What kind of world do you think this is? I have the right to pursue my own happiness!”
Adrian was already on edge. The moment he heard that, his anger flared again.
“Pursue happiness? Do you even remember you’re married? You have a child!” He lunged as if to strike her again, but the bodyguards grabbed him before he could.
Seeing him restrained, Miranda deliberately provoked him further.
“Who says being married with a kid means I can’t fall for someone else? A useless man like you? I can’t even stand looking at you. You make me sick.”
Adrian broke free from the guards and kicked her hard.
Miranda gasped from the impact.
Even so, she didn’t beg.
“Go ahead. Hit me. Better yet, beat me to death. Otherwise, when the Leightons get here, you’ll regret it.”
She wasn’t a woman without backing.
That only fueled Adrian’s rage, and he went after her again.
A single glance from Robert stopped him. Several bodyguards rushed in and pulled Adrian back once more.
“Dad, why are you stopping me? Let me beat this bitch to death!” Adrian snapped.
Robert cut him off sharply. “What’s the point of hitting her? Stand there and get yourself under control. If you don’t, I’ll deal with you too. You couldn’t even keep your own wife in line, and you still have the nerve to talk to me like that?”
Adrian fell silent immediately.
Robert ignored him and walked toward Miranda, step by measured step.
“Miranda, I don’t care if you fell for another man. That’s your personal business. But you should never have touched the company. And you took a large amount of money from it. I’ve already called the police. You can prepare for prison.” His voice was slow and deliberate.
Miranda’s expression turned blank, as if she had no idea what he was talking about.
“Father, what are you even saying? I don’t understand a word. When did I ever take money from the company? And what do you mean by interfering with it? I don’t hold any real authority there. How could I possibly affect the company?”
“When I was sick these past few days, I personally handed everything over to you—and now you’re denying it?” Robert’s brows tightened. “Fine. Deny it if you want. I have plenty of ways to make you admit it.”
Miranda didn’t take him seriously at all.
“Go ahead, then. I’d love to see you try.”
Just as the standoff reached its peak, a servant hurried in.
