Chapter 2297
Robert understood exactly what Wren meant, and he nodded.
“Don’t worry. I still know where the line is.”
Elena and Cecilia watched from the side.
A faint smile tugged at Elena’s lips. “I thought we were going to see a real show. Guess that’s it. Let’s go.”
Cecilia nodded.
Just then, a few more familiar faces entered from outside.
Cecilia glanced over and recognized them immediately—they were Miranda’s family.
“Mom, the Leightons are here,” she said.
Elena stopped mid-step.
“Then let’s stay a little longer.”
“Okay.” Cecilia went along without hesitation.
The two of them remained where they were, watching as the Leightons stormed in, their expressions dark and tense.
The moment Robert saw them, his face hardened.
“What are you doing here?”
At the front stood Derek, Miranda’s father.
“What do you think? We’re here to take my daughter home.”
Derek caught sight of Miranda’s injuries, and his fists clenched instantly.
“You Rainsworths actually laid hands on my daughter like this?”
Not far away, Cecilia watched everything unfold.
She still remembered what happened when Elliot and Felix got into that fight.
Back then, the Leightons had reacted the exact same way—ignoring right and wrong, rushing in and blaming Elliot the moment they arrived. And now it was happening again.
They didn’t care what Miranda had done.
They only knew how to protect their own.
Robert let out a cold laugh.
“Your daughter did something shameless. In the old days, she would’ve been stoned for it. What I did to her was already lenient.”
Even Robert hadn’t expected the Leightons to walk in and accuse him first.
Derek didn’t bother arguing. He turned to the man in a suit behind him.
The man stepped forward immediately, pulling out his ID.
“I’m the Chief Legal Officer of Leighton Group. Mr. Rainsworth, even if Ms. Miranda did something wrong, that doesn’t give you the right to punish her privately. What you’re doing right now is illegal. Do you understand?”
Robert froze for a moment.
He had always considered himself shameless and difficult—but he hadn’t expected the Leightons to outdo him.
Their own daughter had done something disgraceful, and they had the nerve to bring a lawyer to threaten him.
“Good. Very good. You people really have no shame left.”
Robert slammed his fist onto the table with a heavy bang.
The lawyer didn’t even flinch.
Derek let out a cold laugh.
“Robert, why get so worked up? To be honest, this is what both our families want.”
“I think the best way forward is for both sides to take a step back.”
Robert stared at him. “And what exactly does that look like?”
“Have the kids divorce. After that, they each go their separate ways,” Derek said.
Robert nearly laughed in disbelief.
“That’s your idea of both sides stepping back? Where exactly are the Leightons making a concession?”
“We can give up Felix. Isn’t that enough?” Derek said it as if he were offering a huge favor.
Miranda immediately spoke up. “No. Felix is my son. He stays with me.”
“What kind of joke is that? Felix is my son too!” Adrian snapped.
Just like that, the two families were at each other’s throats again, trading sharp words back and forth.
Elena pulled Cecilia down into a seat, handed her a handful of sunflower seeds, and settled in to watch.
Neither family was willing to back down.
Neither side was willing to lose.
In the middle of that ugly clash, Wren was the only one who actually looked concerned.
Everyone else was focused on one thing—their own interests.
The argument dragged on late into the night.
Only then did the Leighton family finally give in.
They agreed to compensate the Rainsworth family for their losses and hand over a piece of land as part of the settlement.
But a single piece of land wasn’t nearly enough to cover what Miranda had taken from the company.
Robert had no way to press further.
He had no proof.
In the end, he had no choice but to swallow it.
