Chapter 2298
Elena headed back, clearly disappointed. She yawned and said to Cecilia, “I was hoping to see Robert really show his fangs tonight. Didn’t expect it to wrap up this quickly.”
She didn’t feel sorry for either side.
The Leighton family wasn’t any better.
Cecilia nodded. “Yeah. I didn’t think something like this would end up being settled with money either.”
Elena patted her shoulder.
“You’ll have to get used to it. In families like these, nobody talks about feelings. It’s all about profit.”
Cecilia fell quiet, turning those words over in her mind.
After Elena went back to her room to rest, Cecilia returned to the house she shared with Nathaniel.
Nathaniel hadn’t gone over—he wasn’t the type to pry.
At that moment, he was sitting on the couch, scrolling through his phone.
When Cecilia saw he was still awake, she frowned slightly. “Why aren’t you asleep yet? It’s late.”
“What about you? Why are you just getting back?” Nathaniel asked.
He’d stayed up because he couldn’t stop worrying about her.
Cecilia sat down beside him. “Things got messy over there. The entire Leighton family showed up.”
“Oh.”
“You’re really not curious? Don’t you want to ask how it ended?”
“The Leightons probably gave Robert something to smooth things over, and he let it go. Right?” Nathaniel said calmly.
The moment Cecilia heard that, all her interest vanished.
“Talking to you is so boring. How do you already know everything?”
Nathaniel took her hand. “Alright. Next time, even if I know, I’ll pretend I don’t.”
Cecilia didn’t know how to respond to that.
“Alright, go to sleep.”
After washing up, she lay down in bed.
Nathaniel instinctively pulled her into his arms.
He held her too tightly, and it made her uncomfortable. “Let go. I want to sleep on my own.”
Nathaniel’s hand stiffened.
Cecilia pulled away and closed her eyes again.
With no other choice, Nathaniel carefully held her hand instead, wary of upsetting her again.
The next morning, news broke that Miranda and Adrian had already finalized their divorce peacefully.
Both the Leighton and Rainsworth families cared deeply about their public image. They announced that the divorce had happened long ago—and that only after it was finalized had Miranda gotten together with Julian.
Just like that, both sides managed to preserve their reputations.
At that moment, Miranda sat in front of the TV while a servant applied medicine to her wounds. She looked at her father.
“Dad, how can you just let this go? Look at what they did to me. I was planning to use these injuries to sue Adrian. When the time comes, Robert would’ve had to pay too.”
“Silly girl.” Derek sighed. “Do you know what it means not to corner a desperate dog? If we push the Rainsworths too far, there’s nothing they won’t do. And when that happens, it won’t end well for us.”
Only then did Miranda drop the subject.
Still, the thought of her son staying with the Rainsworth family from now on didn’t sit well with her.
Who exposed what happened between me and Julian?
She was determined to find out.
A few days later, Miranda went to the primary school to pick up Felix.
But before classes even let out, she spotted Cecilia among the other parents waiting outside the gate. She walked straight over.
“Ceci.”
Cecilia turned to look at her. “What is it?”
“When you’ve been picking up Jon lately… have you seen Felix?”
Miranda had been coming for days, but she hadn’t caught even a glimpse of him.
Cecilia shook her head.
“I heard from Jon that Felix transferred schools.”
Miranda’s expression froze instantly.
“What? How did I not know about that?”
“I wouldn’t know,” Cecilia said calmly.
Then she looked away.
Miranda stared at her profile, something clicking into place. She reached out and grabbed her arm.
“What happened to me… was that you? Were you the one who exposed it?”
