Chapter 2308

Calvin had never married all these years, but not long ago, he called Cecilia to tell her he had a child.

Nathaniel stared at her. “Where did the kid come from? Wasn’t he never married?”

To be honest, Nathaniel had always given Calvin a certain amount of respect.

As a man, Calvin had only ever wanted Cecilia—and that had never changed. Nathaniel had long suspected that was the reason Calvin stayed single.

Every time he heard anything about Calvin, something in his chest tightened. He could never fully let his guard down, always half-expecting Calvin to show up and try to take Cecilia away.

“He said it was IVF,” Cecilia replied.

Nathaniel fell silent for a moment, then asked, “What about the child’s mother?”

Cecilia shook her head. “No idea. He said it’s confidential, so no one knows who she is. But Calvin’s outstanding—he must’ve chosen good genes.”

Nathaniel nodded slightly.

The tension in his chest eased without warning.

At their age, and with Calvin now having a child, Nathaniel could only assume the man had finally moved on.

“Is it a boy or a girl?”

“A beautiful little girl.” As she spoke, Cecilia pulled out her phone, opened her chat with Calvin, and showed him.

Nathaniel looked at the little girl in the photo, and his pupils tightened.

It wasn’t that he was overthinking it—

the girl looked a little too much like Cecilia.

“Don’t you think she looks a bit like…” Nathaniel paused, then changed his wording at the last second. “She really looks like Calvin. Very pretty.”

Cecilia shot him a glance.

“Of course she does. She’s his daughter.”

Nathaniel nodded, then asked, “Has he been contacting you a lot lately?”

Cecilia nodded. “Maybe because he has a child now, so he came to me for advice.”

A trace of unease crept back into Nathaniel’s chest, but his voice stayed calm.

“For something like that, it’d be more appropriate to ask a nanny. If he doesn’t have one, I can arrange a few for him. What do you think?”

Cecilia didn’t catch his underlying meaning at all.

She nodded. “Sure.”

Nathaniel went quiet.

Then Cecilia leaned closer. “What? You’re not still worried there’s something between me and him, are you?”

Nathaniel didn’t know how to respond.

The older his wife got, the more mischievous she seemed to become.

Cecilia wrapped her arms around him.

“We’ve been married forever. Look at me—I’ve got wrinkles now. And look at our sons. The oldest is already in his twenties, and the youngest is almost seventeen. How could I possibly have the energy to mess around?”

“Besides, Calvin and I only talk online. We’re miles apart. How could anything happen?”

Hearing that, Nathaniel finally relaxed a little. He raised a hand and pulled her into his arms.

“Mm. Got it.”

He believed her.

And yet, something still wouldn’t fully settle.

Cecilia patted his shoulder.

Just then, a voice came from outside.

“Mom, Dad—if you’re going to hug like that, can you do it in your room?”

They both let go and turned toward the doorway.

Their two younger sons had just returned from school, standing there with exaggerated sighs on their faces.

Cecilia felt a little embarrassed.

“…We’ll be more careful next time.”

Nathaniel, on the other hand, didn’t hold back at all.

He pulled Cecilia right back into his arms. “Since when is this your business? If you don’t have girlfriends, stay out of ours.”

The two boys immediately retreated to their rooms.

Nathaniel still had no intention of letting go.

Just then, another voice rang out—

“Mommy!”

It was Elliot.

Dressed sharply and fashionably, he rushed straight toward Cecilia the moment he saw her.

“My mom looks even prettier today. Seriously, how do you keep getting younger?”
