After Madeline asked that, she did not get Ava’s answer even after a few seconds had passed. Hence, she was a little worried. “Ava, who is it? Why aren’t you talking? Ava, Ava..?”

“Maddie, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.” Ava’s abnormally calm voice sounded from the other end. “It’s just a colleague of mine and she has some questions about work that she needs to ask me urgently. I’m gonna go now. I’ll talk to you later. Bye.”

After Ava said that, she hung up the phone.

On the other end, Madeline sat up from Jeremy’s embrace and handed the little boy to Jeremy before walking to one side to change.

“What’s wrong, Linnie? Where are you going?” Jeremy looked confusedly at Madeline, who had a serious expression on her face.

The darkness enveloped the sky, and Madeline looked at the man who was focused on driving. There was a soft smile on the corners of her lips.

Right, she was too anxious just now. How could she forget it was dangerous for her to go alone?

Besides, how would this man allow her to put her safety at risk?

More than ten minutes later, Jeremy and Madeline arrived at the lobby of Ava’s apartment. When Madeline saw the lights in Ava’s room, the worry in her heart lessened for some reason. Perhaps she was really overthinking.

Madeline looked at the woman next to Ava and nodded.

“You sounded strange on the phone just now, so I was worried that something had happened. That’s why I came over,” Madeline explained before smiling at the woman. “Hello, Mrs. Long.”

The woman stood up and showed Madeline a friendly smile.

“You must be Ava’s best friend, Eveline. You’re who she trusts the most, right? Hello, I’m Ava’s mother. I think I’ve met you before but I never had the chance to formally say hi to you.”

“Me too.” Madeline smiled. Then, she walked to Ava and helped her pick up the glass shards on the floor.

“Ava, since you’re fine, Jeremy and Iwill be going back now. You should chat with your mother.”

“Maddie, wait!” Ava suddenly stopped Madeline who was about to tum around and leave.

Madeline turned back curiously. “What else can I do for you, Ava?”

“Um, she’s going back now and she’s staying in Glendale Hotel, which you own. Since it’s on the way to your house, I wonder if you can send her back?” Ava looked at the woman whose expression had changed. “Sorry for the trouble, Maddie.”

When Ava said that, Madeline could immediately see her mother’s awkward expression. She clearly did not want to leave yet but Ava did not want her to stay.

Madeline knew that Ava had deep resentment against her parents and she had never gotten over it until now. Madeline did not know what had happened back then to make Ava despise her parents so much.

However, Madeline seemed to understand how Ava was feeling. She recalled that there was a time when she could not convince herself to forgive those people who had hurt her deeply.

Even though Ava’s mother did not want to leave, she did not want to make Ava upset. Hence, she smiled at Madeline. “Mr. Whitman, Mrs. Whitman, sorry for the trouble.”

“Not at all. It’s on the way back home.” Madeline smiled and turned around. “Ava, you should sleep early, then. I’ll see you soon.”

“Alright,” Ava answered as if she could not wait to send her mother away.

Ava’s mother knew Ava did not want to see her, so she could only leave with disappointment.

Actually, there was a car downstairs waiting for Ava’s mother, but in order to know more about Ava, she got into Jeremy’s car.

Madeline seemed to sense something, so she took the initiative to sit in the backseat. Jeremy drove them to Glendale Hotel steadily.

“Yeah, don’t you think Ava looks like her mother?” Madeline asked with a smile.

Jeremy thought for a while, looking pensive. Then, he said a little arrogantly, “I only think that our three babies look like you and me.”

“You’re being sweet right now but I never heard you saying that Jack looks like me back then.” Madeline casually teased him.

Jeremy thought Madeline wanted to grumble about what he did back then, so he immediately reached over to hold Madeline’s hand. “Linnie, I won’t make the same mistakes again.”

“I didn’t say anything, dummy.” Madeline patted Jeremy’s hand. “Those things happened in the past, so why bother bringing them up? What I’m worried about the most right now are Ava and Dan.”

“Even though I don’t like Daniel that much, I won’t deny that he’s a responsible and good man.”

Ava looked at Naya in front of her and was immediately jolted awake. “Why are you here?”

“Danny gave me your address,” Naya smiled and explained. “If it’s inconvenient right now, I can wait outside. Ah-choo!”

After Naya said that, she sneezed gracefully.

Cold wind coincidentally blew into the house, and Ava opened the door. “Come in and have a seat. I’ll go wash up.”

“Sorry for intruding.” Naya smiled and walked inside.

Ava turned around quickly to make a cup of tea for Naya. After that, she rushed to the bathroom.

“I’ll be ready soon. Please wait.”

“Ava, take your time. I’m not in a rush,” Naya said in the direction of the bathroom understandingly.

When she heard the sound of water in the bathroom, the sweet and obedient smile on Naya’s face disappeared. She looked at the black tea Ava made for her in disgust and got up to slowly walk around the room.

Even though the apartment was not big, it was complete.

Compared to the other units, this one was obviously designed attentively. The style was very comfortable in a simple Nordic theme. Every items’ placement in the house was just right. Naya remembered that Ava was an interior designer, so it was obvious that she was the one who designed this place.

However, no matter how beautiful or good-looking this place was, Naya would not be interested in such a cheap and small apartment. Also, how could the woman living in this cheap and small apartment be suitable for the man she had admired for ten years?

Naya rolled her eyes in disdain. When she saw an opened laptop on the bar counter, she walked over and touched the screen.

“I’m so sorry about yesterday. I’m sorry for causing trouble for you and Danny.” Naya apologized and thanked Ava.

Naya seemed sincere, and the way she spoke made it sound as if she was siding with Ava and Daniel. It was as though she was taking their wishes into consideration. When she saw Ava not speaking, Naya continued.

“Ava, this is the best way for now. I don’t think you want Danny to be stuck in a dilemma between you and his family, right?”

After staying silent for a while, Ava lifted the corners of her mouth into a soft smile and praised Naya.

“Miss Mendez, I didn’t think that you’d be so considerate and magnanimous. I think if it’s any other woman, they wouldn’t be willing to do this.”

Naya showed a friendly and obedient smile when she heard this. “Danny and I are childhood sweethearts and we’re good friends. Even though we’re not related by blood, I’ve always thought of him as my biological brother. Plus, I also view Danny’s grandpa as my own grandpa. I really don’t want anything bad to happen to Grandpa, and I don’t want to see Danny so helpless.”

Naya’s tone was very soft, but it sounded so sincere.

Daniel looked back and saw that Ava was awake. A warm smile appeared on his face as he walked toward her.

“You’re awake. You must be hungry, right? Go wash your face and I’ll eat with you.”

Ava blinked her sleepy eyes and looked at the plates of fragrant dishes. “Did you buy the ingredients and come all the way here to cook for me?”

“Uh-huh.” Daniel smiled softly and gently held Ava’s hand. “Go wash up now.”

Feeling Daniel’s concern and love, Ava smiled sweetly before obediently going to wash up. After washing up, she appeared in front of Daniel without makeup.

Seeing the steaming food on the bar counter, Ava felt a surge of warmth in her heart.

While eating, Ava chatted with Daniel. She told him about Naya’s visit, but when she mentioned Naya’s fake engagement with Daniel, he stopped eating and his expression became serious.

After eating with Ava, Daniel cleared the tableware and cleaned the bar counter.

“Ava, I’m free today. I’ll accompany you.”
