Ch. 1386..1390
Chapter 1386
Sherry leaned on the car and crossed her arms. “Tell me, | have all the time in the world.” Jacob pursed his lips awkwardly.
Had she not noticed he did not want to talk to her?
A quick thought later, he said with a professional smile, Why don’t you ask Madam herself for more details? I’m just an observer, so my story might not be accurate.”
“Those who observe see clearer. | want your side of the story,” Sherry said with a raised brow.
Jacob was left speechless.
He somehow felt Sherry was unlike the person she was two years ago. Her aura and presence had grown a lot
stronger.
Some thoughts later, Jacob reluctantly said, “Ms. Fowler, I’m just a bodyguard. | shouldn’t be talking about my boss here.” Sherry’s lips remained curled, and her smile remained bright. “If you don’t tell me, I'll call Syl and ask her to fire you.” Jacob felt absolutely helpless. People just loved to threaten bodyguards like him by firing them, which was
getting a little old in his opinion.
Amoment of silence later, he said, “Alright.”
Since Odell had gone looking for Sylvia, they must have made up and cleared the misunderstanding.
He then explained how Ruth arranged for Shermaine, who looked like Sylvia, to come to Westchester two years ago so that she could approach and intentionally save Madam Carter.
He also mentioned that Shermaine was promoted to become Odell’s secretary after two years and then got exposed as part of Ruth’s plan by Odell himself after a few
days. Sherry’s expressions switched multiple times in the process.
After briefly learning what happened, she asked, “Syl ran away because of Shermaine?”
“| suppose so,” Jacob said. He then explained, “But there’s nothing between Master Carter and Shermaine. He was busy a while back and almost never comes home. Madam doesn’t like that very much, and Master Carter must have assumed that she doesn’t understand him.”
Sherry’s expression softened.
If there was something going on between Odell and Shermaine, she would not have noticed the inklings of a scheme when she confronted him in the parking lot.
Odell went looking for Sylvia yesterday, so they were probably sleeping together already by now. Sherry then suddenly recalled seeing a woman in a cap running past her car. She asked, “Was that Shermaine?” Jacob nodded. “Yeah. It’s her.”
She looked in the direction that Shermaine ran off.
The street was empty, the trees looked quiet, and there were no signs of souls anywhere. Shermaine must have left. She then asked Jacob, “Are Madam Carter, Aunt Tonya, and the kids home?” “Yes. They are all inside,” Jacob said.
Sherry then took several beautiful boxes out of her car. These are the presents I’ve prepared for them. | still have something to do, so I'll leave them to you.”
Jacob took the presents. “I understand.”
Another quick thought later, she added, “Don’t say it’s from me. Just say it’s from Syl’s friend. Surprised, Jacob asked, “Why?”
Sherry’s eyes flickered. “No reason. Just do as | said.”
Jacob then related her reaction to John’s incident, so he
simply complied.
After that, Sherry got into the car and left.
Chapter 1387
The car turned around and went back where it came from.
Just when it was about to leave the street, Sherry spotted something outside the window.
“Stop.”
The driver pulled over immediately.
Sherry got out and headed to a nearby tree.
Shermaine noticed the car and the woman coming out of it. She lowered her cap and wanted to leave. Sherry’s gaze turned cold. She strode forward, went in front of Shermaine, and stopped her from leaving. Shermaine frowned. She said, “Please move aside. You're in my way.”
Sherry got a good look at her face. “Are you Shermaine?”
Surprised, Shermaine carefully sized Sherry up and spotted multiple branded items on her, plus her bright and charming face. She staggered and asked cautiously, Who are you?”
((
Sherry curled her lips. “I am Sylvia's friend, or you might know her as Mrs. Carter.” Shermaine’s eyes flickered. She said, “I don’t know you,
and | don’t know any Mrs. Carter.”
“Don't be nervous. | am not a violent person, and | don’t like beating someone else’s mistress up. Anyway, you're not even a mistress.”
Shermaine’s expression turned cold. “Please mind your words.”
Sherry scoffed. “If you want people to respect you, you need to respect yourself first, understand?” Shermaine choked on her words. Anger took over and she bellowed, “Master Carter and | like each other!” Sherry was stunned. She was not surprised by the words but stunned by the blind confidence of the girl. Amoment later, Sherry chuckled and said, “If Odell likes someone like you, then | bet he likes to eat shit.”
Shermaine flushed, but she regained her composure and lifted her chin into a proud bearing. “I am not like other women. Master Carter treats me differently. Don’t even think about trying to get on my nerves with that poor choice of words.”
“I'm speaking the truth. I've seen a lot of women like you hundreds of years ago.” Sherry stepped forward and sized Shermaine up from top to bottom. “Other than your little delicate face, nothing stands out, especially that brain of yours.”
Shermaine choked, her face flushed. In addition to the impatience and annoyance of not
seeing Odell for the past two days, anger drove her over the line. She yelled, “Your friend is the one without a brain! She left the house just to make him mad?! Does she even think Master Carter will want her back based on that?!”
Sherry narrowed her eyes. She suddenly felt an itch on her hands and had the urge to slap someone. Her hands unconsciously
curled.
Shermaine took Sherry’s silence as the first win of the battle. She scoffed and said, “Master Carter is not just any man. He’s the owner of Carter Corporation. If that idiot woman uses this kind of cheap trick to make him mad, he will only hate her more. Even if he doesn’t leave her now, he will in the future!”
“So, you think you're the big star here? The wisest person in the room?”
“Of course! | like Master Carter, | understand him! | am there for him when he’s busy and | won't cause a scene like that stupid woman!”
Sherry chuckled.
Shermaine’s expression changed. “What are you laughing at?”
Sherry said, “I've seen idiots, but | have never seen idiots being so confident.” Shermaine stared at her.
Sherry looked back and continued, “You said you know him. You understand how he is when he’s busy and that he won’t cause a scene. That’s what every maid and servant in the Carters‘ residence as well as his secretary and assistant do; it’s basic requirements. Some of the maids are even more beautiful than you are, so what gives you the idea that you are better than them?”
Shermaine argued, “I’m not the same! I’m not a maid. I’m... I’m...” She choked.
Sherry grinned. “What? A temporary secretary? Even the maids are paid higher than you!”

Chapter 1389
Judging from the logo, the caps must have cost a lot. Sylvia was certain that she had never bought the caps for them before. The two little rascals posed like rappers in front of the phone.
“Mommy, look at me! Am | cool?” Flint acted cool and tried to steal the spotlight from his sister, but she pushed him away mercilessly.
Isabel picked up the phone and pointed it at Liam.
Liam also wore the same cap, but it was hanging over his shoulder. His cool face warmed up when he saw his mother through the phone.
Sylvia smiled. “Issy, Liam, where did you guys get the caps?” “We got them from your friend!”
It was then that Flint pushed himself back into the screen and sandwiched himself in between his brother and sister. His adorable lips protruded.
Surprised, Sylvia asked, “Mommy's friend? Who was it?” It was then Odell moved closer to her and glared at the little rascals.
Sylvia did not notice his sharp gaze. She was curious about who had given the kids the caps. It was unusual for anyone to give them such expensive caps.
Isabel said, “Mommy, we got the caps from Uncle Jacob. He didn’t tell us who the friend was. He just said they were a present for us. Your friend also gave Great- grandma and Grand -aunt presents too! They got pearl necklaces!”
Even Madam Carter and Aunt Tonya got gifts?
It was impossible for Jacob to not ask for a name and accept presents from a stranger. Therefore, the only explanation would be that the person had told Jacob not to reveal their name.
Sylvia instantly thought of Sherry.
Odell’s gaze shifted multiple times before he returned to the side and continued reading his book. Sylvia chatted with the kids for a while before she ended the call and texted Sherry.
“Sherry, are you back?”
The reply came back instantly.
“How did you know? Did Jacob tell you?”
As expected.
“Jacob didn’t say anything. | found out myself.”
“Babe, you’re damn smart!”
“Where are you now?”
“I'm on my way to Glenchester.”
Sylvia was surprised. Glenchester?
Sherry knew that John had been looking for her for the past two years. She would be walking right into the tiger’s mouth if she went to Glenchester.
A quick thought later, Sylvia asked, “What are you going to do there? Are you going to see Caprice?” “Yeah. | want to see her, and | have something to do.”
“What?”
“Some work-related stuff. Don’t worry. | won't let that bastard find me. Nothing will happen.”
Sylvia sighed a breath of relief. “Okay. If you need anything, let me know.”
“You have fun.”
“Alright.”
Chapter 1390
Meanwhile, Sherry’s car had just entered the busiest street of Glenchester. It was midnight, but the sleepless street remained lively and crowded.
People in groups of three or five were strolling down the bar-filled street with neon lights shedding their lively brilliance on their tipsy faces. Instead of the howling of the chilly wind, music could be heard in the air.
Awhile later, the car stopped in front of a nightclub, which looked grander and much quieter than other places.
The nightclub was one of the oldest clubs in Glenchester. Before John became the richest man in the city, the nightclub had always been the liveliest and the most popular gathering spot for the rich.
Now, it had declined into an old place with lame music, existing to only fill the void.
“Ms. Fowler, we're here,” the driver said.
Sherry nodded and got out of the car.
The owner of the club saw her and came out to welcome her with several of his employees.
Sherry chatted with the owner before they went inside.
On the first floor, there was a live band playing music with several tables of customers drinking and chatting together.
The owner prepared a quiet table near the window for Sherry.
Beside the table was the beautiful ceiling-to-floor glass. With the drizzle outside, the raindrops trickled down the glass quietly. The nightclub’s business was in a desolate state, but its unusual calmness and quietness were also charming.
Sherry started the meeting with the owner as soon as they sat down. The owner did most of the talking while Sherry sipped wine from her glass.
The wine was brewed by the owner himself and had an exquisite taste indeed.
Just when she was feeling the heat from the wine, she accidentally glanced outside the window and spotted a familiar figure coming out from an expensive MPV in the parking lot next door.
The bodyguards around the man lined up like dominos outside the car with umbrellas.
The man who came out from the car wore a tailored suit with a big trench coat hanging over his shoulder. Under the dim lighting, his golden-framed glasses gleamed elegantly.
Sherry went breathless for a moment. The man turned around and reached inside the car.
Achild, wrapped tightly in expensive clothes, was carried out carefully. The man carried the child cautiously as if he was afraid that the child would be hurt.
The bodyguards and the assistant beside him were cautious as well. The umbrellas were raised high in the sky firmly, blocking every drop of rain from the child.
Sherry’s glass returned to the table as her eyes were glued in that direction.
The owner of the club noticed Sherry in a trance. He, too, looked in the direction of her gaze. The owner was shocked when he saw John. “Isn't that Master Stockton?”
He then turned to Sherry with a bright smile. “Ms. Fowler, do you know Master Stockton?” John had then carried Caprice into the club.
Sherry retracted her gaze and picked up her glass once more. She smiled, “Master Stockton is the richest man in Glenchester. Who wouldn't know him?”
The owner nodded. “You're right, you’re right. Ever since. he became the richest man of the city, Glenchester’s economy has skyrocketed.”
There was a hint of disappointment in his words. The economy had improved, and people had made a lot of money, except for him.
Sherry said with a smile, “Mr. Cook, your wine is probably the best wine | have had in the past two years.’ Mr. Cook’s face was instantly filled with anticipation. Really? Then, our deal...”
“lam looking forward to working with you, Mr. Cook.” Sherry then drained the wine to the last drop and stood up with a professional smile. “Someone will come over to discuss the details with you tomorrow around three. Thank you for the wine. I'll be going now.”
Mr. Cook’s eyes gleamed. He bolted up and smiled. ” Alright! Thank you very much. We'll wait for your contact tomorrow!”
