Chapter 1741

Chapter 1741 Sherry said, “Thank you, Lisa. I’m fine. She didn’t touch me.” Lisa sighed a breath of relief. She added, “I'll definitely make this right for you.”

She was furious. Aiden had hired thugs to harm Sherry and got arrested for his crime, yet Anne was trying to give Sherry a tough time?

Lisa was not a weak and helpless woman! Sherry pursed her lips. “It’s fine, Lisa. I’m okay.”

Anne stopped Sherry in front of the office just to give her a hard time. Had John not arrived in time, Sherry would have been slapped and insulted in front of the public. It would definitely have caused a series of unhappy events.

Anne was a major shareholder in the company, but she was not working there. She had Madam Sager and some other old folks support, so Lisa could not do anything to her either.

If Lisa was correct, Anne probably came here because Ron instigated her to. Since she had no way

to deal with Ron at the moment, giving Anne a hard time would be meaningless.

Lisa sighed out of guilt. She looked at John and said, “Master Stockton, thank you.”

John smiled at her. “Mrs. Sager, you are being too kind. Sherry is my wife. Of course, I’d save her.”

Lisa’s smile froze for a moment. “I... You're right.”

Sherry intervened in a timely manner and said, “It’s okay now. Go back to the car and take care of Caprice.”

John smiled at her. “Okay. Caprice and | will come to pick you up at night.”

Sherry wanted to reject him, but he already left before she could say so, thus she was forced to swallow her words. Before John got into the car, he had a glance at Carl who was standing further away.

Sherry could hear Caprice’s voice calling John when he got in. She wondered if the girl saw her and Anne earlier. Fortunately, even if the girl saw it, John could probably explain the situation in an understandable manner.

The car left. Sherry pulled her attention back and said to Lisa, “Let's go in.”

Lisa had been paying attention to Sherry’s expression. She simply hummed a reply and subtly sighed before going into the office with Sherry.

The space outside the building soon returned to normal, leaving Carl alone petrified by the road. He watched as Sherry and Lisa went inside. His brows furrowed and his hands clenched.

John had saved her again.

The car cruised smoothly on the freeway.

Caprice was strapped in the baby seat when she asked, “Daddy, why did the bad woman want to hit Mommy?” Her brows furrowed. Her usual adorable look was replaced by an angry expression as if she was

an angry puppy.

John said, “Because that woman has some opinion about your Mommy.”

Caprice grunted as she crossed her arms. She grumbled, “I don’t like her.” If she was not strapped to the baby seat, she would have run down and hit the woman.

John chuckled. “Don’t be angry, Caprice. Daddy will teach her a lesson.”

He ought to make Anne realize the consequences of giving a hard time to Sherry in public and refusing to apologize for her actions.

Caprice nodded in agreement. She grumbled, “Daddy, teach her a lesson! Don’t let her bully Mommy again.” John nodded. “Alright. Daddy promises you.”

The girl’s expression then returned to normal.

Chapter 1742

The day passed while Sherry buried herself in work.

At dusk, Sherry walked out of the office and saw her white car parked beside the road.

The window was wound down and Caprice popped her head out, calling her adorably, “Mommy...” The sweet expression felt warmer than the breeze.

Sherry hastened her steps to the car. She got in, hugged the girl in her arms, and kissed her on the cheek.

Caprice giggled as she kissed her mother back. They played around for a while before Sherry released the girl. She then switched her attention to the driver’s seat. “Why aren't you driving?”

John smiled and looked at her through the rear mirror. “I’m waiting for your order.”

Sherry gulped. “Drive.”

John started the car and drove, but not in the direction of her apartment.

Sherry asked, “Where are you going?”

He said, “Caprice wants to have something good to eat. | booked a restaurant. We'll be there in twenty minutes.” Sherry frowned.

“I've only booked a table. | didn’t pay for it yet,” he added.

Sherry’s brows eased. “If Caprice wants to eat nice food, let’s

go.”

Even though their relationship was not as tense as before, it did not mean that she had forgiven him or accepted him. She would never eat the food that he bought.

Sherry then looked outside the window with Caprice.

John glanced at her through the rear window. His lips pursed in silence.

Less than twenty minutes later, they arrived at the restaurant that was famous for seafood.

John had booked the best room on the second floor.

Sherry carried Caprice and followed John and the waiter to the room. She was stunned when she saw the place.

There were only three of them dining in, and there were multiple empty seats on the first floor that could fit a family of four. The man just had to choose the best room with the most space. The minimum spend to dine in the room was ten thousand.

Although Sherry was no longer living under the poverty line, she was still a working adult. Her purse was already bleeding before she even sat down. Her chest tightened as she glared at him.

John looked confused. “What’s wrong? Something wrong with your eyes?”

Two waiters came by with concerned looks.

Sherry bit the bullet and said, “Caprice is hungry. Let's just eat.”

The waiters folded the round table smaller to fit the family of three.

Sherry placed Caprice in the baby chair and sat down beside her; John sat opposite her.

The waiter gave them a menu each. Sherry and Caprice went through the menu together.

When she saw the price listed on the menu, she gasped. The cheapest dish on the menu cost two thousand. Caprice had no concept of money. She pointed at the pictures that captured her attention and said, “I want this, this, this, and this!”

The waiter wrote down the order one by one.

Sherry felt like her soul had left her body. She pursed her lip and stayed quiet.

Caprice flipped to the last page and pointed at a beautiful-looking dessert. “This!”

The waiter smiled brightly. “Alright. Is there anything else?”

Caprice said, “Nothing else for me.”

The waiter looked at Sherry.

Sherry forced a stiff smile on her face. “Me too.”

Caprice had ordered half of the menu, so there was no reason for her to order any more.

The waiter then turned to John.

John glanced at Sherry as the closed the menu in his hands. “Three glasses of fruit juice please.” “Alright. Please wait while the kitchen prepares your order.”

The waiter kept the menus and left.

John looked at Sherry.

Chapter 1743

Sherry was probably counting how much she had to spend for the meal. She noticed the man’s gaze and it irritated her. “What are you looking at?”

John smiled. “Nothing. | just want to look at you.”

Sherry choked. She wanted to argue, but Caprice reached out to her face with her tiny hands.

The girl held her collar and said, “Mommy, don’t be angry at Daddy.”

Sherry was forced to swallow her grievance. She said, “Mommy isn’t angry at Daddy. I’m just teasing him.” John was left speechless, and so was Caprice.

Caprice added, “Mommy, don’t tease Daddy. Daddy is scared.”

Sherry said with a smile, “He’s thick-faced. He won't be scared so easily.”

Caprice pouted in confusion. Being thick-faced and cowardly had nothing in relation. Before she could figure out the question, the waiter returned with the dishes.

The dishes served were mostly vegetarian, but they were decorated meticulously. Caprice’s eyes widened in astonishment. Sherry put some broccoli on the girl’s plate. The girl ate happily, and Sherry started eating as well.

The dishes tasted excellent. More dishes were served as they ate, and soon the table was filled. Each and every dish looked captivating and delicious.

Caprice could not stop munching. Her stomach started to bloat, yet she still wanted to eat.

Sherry had to stop the girl from eating herself to death. She ate quite a lot as well, but there were still a lot of leftovers on the table. She did not want to waste them, and since she was paying, she continued eating.

Until her stomach was on the verge of exploding, she put down her fork and spoon and burped satisfyingly. The man chuckled.

Sherry glared at him.

The man pursed his lips innocently and turned a deaf ear at her.

Sherry looked at Caprice. The girl was already dozing off.

Knowing that she had to carry the girl and pay at the same time, she looked at John, signaling him to help. “Why are you still sitting there?”

John smiled. He got up and carried Caprice into his arms.

Sherry grabbed her purse and led the father and daughter downstairs. She walked to the counter

and gave the cashier her credit card. The cashier swiped her card and returned it to her.

Then, she received a notification on her phone, telling her that she had just used nearly sixty thousand on her card. Sherry gasped in shock.

It was then a tall shadow approached her.

The man’s soft and comforting voice echoed in her ears, “Fifty-something? It’s okay.”

Okay? Fifty thousand plus for dinner was okay? She could eat herself to death with just one to two hundred! Sherry wanted to glare at him, but she spotted the girl dozing off on his shoulder. Once again, she swallowed her grievance.

Since her daughter loved it, she was willing to spend it. Thankfully, she could make more money. She side—-eyed him and headed outside.

John and Caprice followed her out.

As soon as they stepped out of the restaurant, the waiters and cashier started to talk behind their backs.

“The man is so handsome, but he’s using that woman’s money.”

Sherry and John were outside the restaurant. It was quiet outside, and they overheard it before the door closed. She immediately looked at John. Her eyes were like the milky way, dazzling and shimmering.

John was silenced for a while. He held his smiling urge back and feigned an innocent look.

Sherry giggled happily and pocketed her hands as she strutted forward. It was as though she was the richest woman in Coastrock.

John held his laughter back and followed her to the car.

Chapter 1744

When they arrived at Sherry’s apartment, Caprice was already dead asleep.

After Sherry got out of the car, she carried Caprice into her arms and threw a gaze at John. “You can go now.”

John stood by the car and leaned against it lazily. The moonlight’s reflection shone from his glasses as he smiled bewitchingly. “Goodnight.”

Sherry ignored him. She carried Caprice into the apartment without looking back. The night was quiet.

After Sherry entered her apartment and turned on the living room lights, the man’s slender figure remained by the car with no intention of leaving.

However, he pulled his attention away from the window and looked to his left. There was a garden on the left of the apartment, and there was a fake mountain decoration by the side.

In the shadow cast by the fake mountain was a slender figure.

Carl was aware that John noticed him, so he came out from the shadows. “Young Master Carl, what are you doing here?” John asked with a smile. Carl's eyes flickered. He said, “I live around here. I’m on a stroll after dinner.” “Oh, | see. So, you have a habit of strolling after dinner.”

The garden was not a park where everyone could have a stroll. It was just a small garden for flowers, and no trespassing was allowed.

Carl pursed his lips. He smiled and said, “Master Stockton. | heard Sherry telling you to go back. Why are you still here?” John smiled. “You're still here. How could |, her husband, leave?”

Carl's lips twitched helplessly. “You imprisoned her, tortured her, and she almost died in the fire because of you. If | were you, | wouldn't have the guts or the face to claim that I’m her husband.” John looked disheartened.

Carl scoffed. “You can go back now. From today onwards, | will protect Sherry from danger, and that includes you.”

He had already hired bodyguards and stationed them around Sherry’s apartment, so he planned to stay guard for a while starting today. He did not want Ron and his goons to harm Sherry anymore. John went silent for a moment. He then asked, “Did you save her from the fire?”

Carl did not expect the question. Surprised, he asked, “That's right. | dug a hole and brought Sherry out.” “Thank you,” John said.

Carl was stunned.

John looked extremely sincere. “Thank you for saving her.”

Carl flickered his eyes nervously and gulped. “Don’t need to thank me. | saved her because | want to save her from you.”

John did not reply.

Carl raised a brow. He added, “Go back. I'll protect Sherry from now on. Stop disturbing her anymore.” John curled his lips. “She's still legally my wife.”

Carl's expression changed. “So what?”

John smiled. “She will never divorce me, and you cannot be with her.”

Carl looked disheartened. “Master Stockton, | wouldn’t be so sure if | were you.”

John simply laughed it off. He did not reply to Carl’s words. Instead, he switched topics and said, ” There’s only one way to stop Ron Wright from hurting her again.”

Carl was surprised. “How?” “Defeat him, and throw him out of the company and the Sagers.”

Carl frowned. He also knew it was the best way, but he and his mother had been trying for years with little results.

Chapter 1745

Chapter 1745 Ron was a sly man, and Anne had the support of Madam Sager and the other old folks at home.

Lisa had done a lot to reach her current position while bringing Carl up. It had not been her. It was not easy to kick Ron out of the company.

easy for

Carl went silent for a moment and said, “I know, but he’s cunning and we don’t have anything on him.”

John chuckled. “Then, let him give you something to hold against him.”

Carl narrowed his eyes.

John leaned against the car with his arms crossed. He continued, “Ron Wright has a property in the suburbs, where there are a woman and a pair of twins. The woman was his secretary from five

years ago.” Carl was shocked. It took him several seconds to recover and say, “How do you know about this?” John curled his lips. “I have my ways.”

Carl remained shocked. He knew Ron was a playboy as well. Anne had caught him a few times fooling around, and he had been obedient ever since. He never showed any flaws in the open as

well.

Who would have thought that Ron would have a pair of twins with his ex-secretary?

It was much bigger than simply having an affair outside.

Carl took a while to calm down. He looked at John and asked, “Why are you investigating him? And why are you telling me this?”

“Because he’s trying to target Sherry, and because Sherry wants to help you to take over the company. Other than getting a divorce, | will help her to achieve anything,” John said.

Carl pursed his lips with a complicated look.

John smiled. “It's getting late. Why don’t you go back and rest, Young Master Carl? I’ve arranged for bodyguards to look after her. Ron Wright and his men won't come near her.”

He then walked away from the apartment, leaving Carl petrified by the road.

Carl's mind was replaying the words he heard from John. His brows furrowed. He believed his love for Sheri aled that of John’s feelings for her, but he felt challenged.

John had only come to Coastrock for a few days, and he already found out that Ron had a secret mistress and a pair of twins. Meanwhile, Carl had been living in Coastrock all his life and always had close contact with Ron, yet he did not notice any clues. Was John too capable or was Carl just an amateur?

The weather was unpredictable.

Coastrock was blessed with sunny days two days ago, but it started to turn cloudy today.

After a whole day of dark and gloomy weather, it finally rained at night. The rain lasted until the next day, and the sky was still full of dark clouds. The odds of it raining again were high.

As usual, Sherry prepared to go home after work, but she ran into Lisa outside her office.

Lisa held her back. She looked around before she whispered to Sherry, “Sherry, don’t go first. | have something to show you.” She looked excited.

Sherry got curious. She asked, “What is it?”

“Just follow me. You'll know soon.”

“Where?”

“To the suburbs.”

“Why?”

Sherry instantly felt reluctant since Caprice was waiting for her at home.

Lisa immediately said, “It’s about Ron.”

Ron? Ron Wright?

Sherry’s eyes shimmered. “Alright. Let's go.”
